Kharge Accuses BJP-RSS Of Promoting ‘Education Mafia’ Amid NEET-UG 2024 Controversy

Amid the ongoing controversy over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG 2024 exam, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the central government, claiming that the BJP-RSS administration has promoted an “education mafia” by taking control of the entire education system.

Kharge also reiterated the demand for a re-examination of the NEET-UG.

On ‘X’, Kharge wrote, “The Modi Government has told the honorable Supreme Court that no paper has been leaked in NEET-UG! This blatant lie is being told to lakhs of youth. Their future is being ruined. The Ministry of Education has said that ‘irregularities/cheating have taken place only in a few places.’ This is misleading. The BJP-RSS has promoted the education mafia by taking control of the entire education system.”

He further claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government is “bent on destroying our education system.”

“Be it NCERT books or leakage in exams, the Modi government is bent on destroying our education system. We reiterate our demand that: 1) NEET-UG should be conducted again. It should be conducted online in a transparent manner. 2) All paper leak scams should be thoroughly investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court, and strict action should be taken against the culprits.”

“The Modi government cannot escape from its misdeeds,” Kharge added.

The Central government has told the Supreme Court that, in the absence of any proof of a large-scale breach of confidentiality in the NEET-UG 2024 examination, it would not be rational to scrap the entire examination.

Scrapping the NEET-UG exam held on May 5 entirely would “seriously jeopardize” the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024, said the Ministry of Education.

The Centre has filed an affidavit on a batch of petitions pending before the apex court seeking direction to recall NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct the examination afresh, alleging paper leakage and malpractices in the test held.

The apex court had already refused to stay the counselling of NEET-UG 2024.

The top court will hear the cases on July 8.

Responding to the petitions, the Ministry said that prayers raised in the petitions for the cancellation of the exam and the re-test based on “surmises” and “conjectures” must be rejected.

It also informed the apex court that a high-level committee has been constituted to suggest measures for effective, smooth, and transparent conduct of the examinations by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Meanwhile, NTA has also filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam and said that the alleged malpractices were only in Patna and Godhra centers and that the entire exam should not be cancelled based on individual instances.

The sanctity of NEET-UG cannot be impeached by sporadic instances of alleged paper leaks, which are confined to a very small number of candidates, it said.

Earlier, while hearing the case, the top court told the Centre and NTA that if there is any negligence in conducting the NEET-UG exam, it should be dealt with thoroughly.

The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the NTA, is the pathway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is facing heat from the opposition following the irregularities during the conduct of the NEET-UG exam 2024.

An unprecedented 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720 marks, which led to chaos and several protests across the country.

The matter is in the hands of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). (ANI)

Masoud Pezeshkian Iran

Reformist Masoud Pezeshkian Wins presidential Elections In Iran

Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian has secured a win in the presidential elections in Iran, CNN reported, citing Press TV.

Out of 30.5 million votes counted in Friday’s runoff, Pezeshkian received over 16.3 million votes while his ultraconservative rival Saeed Jalili got more than 13.5 million votes, CNN said.

According to election headquarters under the auspices of the interior ministry, the voter turnout was 49.8 per cent in the Iran’s presidential elections, the report said.

Pezeshkian was elected in a second round of voting after he received the highest number of votes in the first round, ahead of Jalili. The first round witnessed lowest turnout for a presidential election since Iran was established in 1979.

He will become the president of a country that is facing rising international isolation, internal discontent, a spiralling economy and the prospect of direct conflict with Israel.

Snap elections were held in Iran after President Ebrahim Raisi died in a chopper crash along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials in Iran’s remote northwest in May.

Pezeshkian was the only reformist candidate who was contesting for the top elected seat in Iran after dozens of other candidates were stopped from running. He has backed holding talks with Iran’s foes, especially over its nuclear program and considers that as a means to address domestic issues in Iran.

At a recent presidential debate, Pezeshkian said, “The primary issue is the perspective: Do we want to solve our problems with the world or not? I believe we must get out of the deadlock to solve the country’s problems.”

President in Iran enjoys some powers. However, the ultimate authority lies with Iran’s supreme leader, who has the final say on the matters of state.

Masoud Pezeshkian was a health minister under reformist president Mohammad Khatami. He is a trained heart surgeon and lawmaker. He gained the attention of people for his stance against the crackdown on the 2009 pro-democracy protests and the violence perpetrated by the notorious morality police in 2022 after Mahsa Amini’s death.

Mahsa Amini died in the custody of morality police after being detained for not following Iran’s strict dress code for women. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands were arrested as the authorities wanted to suppress the protest, CNN reported, citing the United Nations.

Amini died in the custody of the morality police after being detained for not adhering to the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code for women. Hundreds were killed and thousands arrested as the authorities sought to crush the protests, according to the United Nations.

During the 2022 protests, Pezeshkian, in an interview with Iran’s IRINN TV, said, “It is our fault. We want to implement religious faith through the use of force. This is scientifically impossible.”

He said, “I bear part of the blame, the distinguished religious scholars and the mosques bear part of the blame, and the (Iranian) broadcasting authority bears part of the blame.”

He added, “Everybody should step forward and be held accountable, rather than capture that girl, beat her up, and eventually deliver her body (to her family).”

Pezeshkian (69) has presented himself as a candidate for all the people of Iran. After he lost his wife and one of his children in a car crash in 1994, he devoted much of his time to politics. He ran for president in 2013 and 2021 polls. However, he was unable to make headway.

He hails from an ethnically mixed family. His father is Azeri and his mother is Kurdish and his mother tongue is not Persian. That has burnishe

The 69-year-old hails from an ethnically mixed family – his father is Azeri and his mother is Kurdish. Persian isn’t his mother tongue. That has burnished his image for minorities in Iran. However, it has him open to xenophobic attacks from some opponents.

According to experts, a more moderate face as Iran’s President could facilitate talks between Iran and Western nations. Pezeshkian might also bring some social changes, which he had talked about during his election campaign. However, experts have said that such moves are far from guaranteed.

Sanam Vakil, director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at the Chatham House think tank in London, said it’s unlikely that Pezeshkian’s election would immediately translate into policy changes.

Vakil further said, “But Pezeshkian has made it clear that he will try to work through and within the system in order to perhaps accommodate a less repressive environment,” CNN reported.

She stated that reformist did not guarantee that he could make those changes, adding that this shows the limits of presidential powers in Iran. Vakil added, “But (it may add) a bit more room for maneuver on social freedoms.”

He will become Iran’s President at a time when Iran is facing escalating tensions with Israel and its western allies, triggered by the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and the advancement of Iran’s nuclear program.

A few months ago, Iran and Israel exchanged fire for the first time as the conflict in Gaza widened. Israel is now preparing for a potential second front against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Last week, Iran’s mission to the United Nations said that should Israel “embark on full-scale military aggression” against Lebanon, then “an obliterating war will ensue,” CNN reported.

In a post on X, Iran’s mission to UN stated, “All options, including the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table.”

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that “a regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed.” According to experts, Pezeshkian is not expected to change the trajectory on Israel. (ANI)

Pinarayi Vijayan Wayanad

Kerala Govt Holds Meeting Over Preparations For Amoebic Meningoencephalitis

The Kerala government on Friday held a meeting to discuss issues related to amoebic meningoencephalitis under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

CM Vijayan instructed that people should avoid swimming in unclean water bodies. He emphasized that swimming pools must be properly chlorinated.

“Children are particularly susceptible to this disease, so extra caution should be taken when they enter water bodies. The use of swimming nose clips can help prevent the infection,” he said.

The Chief Minister also urged everyone to ensure water bodies are kept clean.

Health Minister Veena George, Chief Secretary Dr. Venu V., Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Rajan Khobragade, and Director of the Virology Institute Dr. E. Sreekumar attended the meeting.

Earlier on July 2, Kerala Health Minister Veena George held a high-level meeting of the health department in the background of two deaths and one case of hospitalisation due to amoebic meningoencephalitis in the last two months.

Notably, Amoebic meningoencephalitis is a very rare disease in people who have contact with standing or running water sources. There are very few scientific studies and results about this rare disease. Statistics indicate that only 2.6 out of 10 lakh people who come in contact with such water in the world get this disease. The disease usually occurs when Naegleria fowleri, a type of amoeba, infects the brain.

This disease is not transmitted from human to human. The amoeba that lives in stagnant water enters the human body through the thin skin of the nose and causes encephalitis, which seriously affects the brain. Free-living amoebas are generally found in stagnant water bodies. Bacteria from the amoeba family are transmitted through the fine pores in the nose by bathing in drains or pools. Enters the human body and severely affects the brain and causes encephalitis.

Symptoms appear within one to nine days of infection. The primary symptoms are severe headache, fever, nausea, vomiting and difficulty turning the neck. Later, when it reaches a critical condition, there are symptoms like epilepsy, loss of consciousness and memory loss. Diagnosis is made by taking fluid from the spinal cord and testing it. People who bathe in stagnant water should report these symptoms and seek treatment. (ANI)

(RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav

Modi Govt Is Weak, Can Fall By August: Lalu

Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday claimed that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre, which came to power last month, could fall by August and elections can happen anytime.

“I appeal to all party workers to be ready, as elections can happen anytime. Modi’s government in Delhi is very weak and it can fall by August and and INDIA bloc government will be formed in the country,” Lalu Yadav said speaking at the RJD’s foundation day event.

Lalu Yadav made the remarks while addressing party workers on the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s foundation day on Friday.

He further further expressed satisfaction with the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Earlier, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party is against reservation, adding that it was the Mahagathbandhan government that raised the reservation quota to 75 per cent.

“If anyone raised the reservation quota to 75 per cent, it was the Mahagathbandhan government. The BJP is against reservations. After the NDA-BJP government came to power in Bihar, it stopped the reservation hike in the state. This is the reason we have been saying that the BJP is not just against Bihar but also against reservation,” the RJD leader said.

He further said that Rashtriya Janata Dal is the only party which has neither compromised nor kneeled before BJP.

“Those from Janata Dal (U) compromised with their ideology due to their greed for power and allied with the BJP. Rashtriya Janata Dal is the only party that has neither compromised nor kneeled before the BJP. Being in power is not the biggest thing. Our fight is for those who are weak and deprived,” he said.

RJD is celebrating 28 years of its foundation today. The RJD came into existence on July 5, 1997.

PM Narendra Modi took the oath on June 9 in Rashtrapati Bhavan as the PM of India for the third consecutive term.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has won its third succesive term in Lok Sabha polls. The NDA won 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls with the BJP getting 240 seats. (ANI)

The large 19-inch front wheel and the small 16-inch rear wheel complement this harmoniously. The classic cruiser design is also reflected in the relaxed seating position with low seat height and wide handlebars.

The centrepiece of the all-new BMW R 12 models is the completely newly developed tubular bridge steel spaceframe. The new frame eliminates the need for previous fastenings, reducing weight and giving the new R 12 models a cleaner and more classic appearance. The rear frame, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main frame. The left-mounted “Twin Pipe” exhaust system with two rear silencers with reverse cone design caters to both the desire for a classically designed roadster and a cruiser. On the all-new BMW R 12 nineT, the manifolds and the front silencer are chrome-plated and the rear silencer is electro-polished. The all-new R 12, on the other hand, features electro-polished manifolds along with a front silencer and rear silencer with a brushed surface.

The rear wheel suspension of the R 12 nineT features a Paralever swinging arm combined with a directly linked sprint strut, which is now angled diagonally compared to the previous R nineT series.

On the front wheel of the all-new R 12 nineT and the all-new R 12, a twin disc brake with two radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake callipers and 310 mm diameter provides stable and efficient braking power. A single disc brake with 2-piston floating calliper and 265 mm diameter is used on the rear wheel. The all-new R 12 models are already equipped with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro as standard. Virat Kohli

Virat Reveals Lack Of Confidence Before T20 WC Final

Before scripting a moment that he would never forget in his life, India’s stalwart batter, Virat Kohli, disclosed that he wasn’t confident about delivering a performance in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados.

Before the final, in seven matches, Kohli, with all his experience, struggled to find that elusive purple patch and put together a string of performances that he enjoyed in the Indian Premier League.

Before the final, he could only muster up just 75 runs at an average of 10.71, which was well below the standards that he had set over the years.

But in the final against South Africa, when the Indian team needed him the most, Kohli tapped into his prime and brought the best out of himself, proving that ‘form is temporary and class is permanent’.

His rollicking 76 off 59 deliveries set the tempo for the game and propelled India to a competitive total of 176/7.

“This day will always remain in my mind because, in the entire tournament, I was not able to make the contribution that I wanted to and at one time,” Kohli said during the Indian team’s interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Thursday morning in New Delhi.

Before the final of the marquee event, Rahul Dravid, who served as the head coach of the Indian team, had backed the stalwart batter to deliver in the final after his woeful T20 World Cup campaign.

Even skipper Rohit Sharma showed confidence in Kohli’s ability to deliver in the final by saying that he was saving his best for the final.

The intent was clear from Kohli when he struck two fours in the first couple of deliveries to foreshadow the storm that was about to unfold from his bat.

“I also told Rahul bhai, that I have not done justice to both myself and the team till now. So he told me that when the situation comes, I am sure that you will come into form. So this conversation happened between us and when we went to play, I told Rohit, I did not have that much confidence that I would be able to bat the way I wanted to. So when we went to play, I got three fours in the first 4 balls, so I went and told him, what kind of a game is this? One day it seems that not even a single run will be scored, and then another day comes and everything starts happening,” Kohli said.

Kohli’s fiery start was soon eclipsed by the peculiar situation that the Indian team found itself in. Within a blink of an eye, India were reduced to 34/3 within the powerplay, which forced them to totter for each run.

Kohli saved his attacking prowess till the final overs and continued to rotate strike. Axar Patel, on the other end, took the gamble and went after bowlers at every available opportunity.

“When we lost wickets, I surrendered myself to the situation and focused on what the team needed from me. I was put in that zone, but I felt bound in that moment. Later, I realised that whatever has to happen will happen. It was meant to happen with me and the team,” Kolhi added.

While defending their total, the South African pair of Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock were muscling the ball out of the park. With the duo on the field, the equation was 30 runs needed off the remaining five overs.

After Jasprit Bumrah bowled a clinical over, Hardik Pandya followed it up by removing the dangerous Klaasen. Arshdeep Singh joined the pace attack, and the trio steered India to a 7-run win, which ended India’s 13-year-long wait for an ICC World Cup trophy.

“We lived each ball at the end, we can’t explain what was going on inside. We lost hope at one moment, then Hardik took a wicket and then with each ball, we got the energy. I am happy that I was able to contribute to the team in such a big game after a tough time. I won’t be able to forget it. I was happy that I was able to take the team to a fighting total,” Kohli remarked.

After living the historic moment, Kohli bid adieu to his T20I career and passed on the baton to the next generation. (ANI)
