Abhishek Calls Neeraj’s Win Icing On The Cake

Abhishek Bachchan, who witnessed the Paris Olympics 2024 live, shared the experience on his social media. He said it was an honour to watch javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra in action.

Taking to Instagram, Abhishek posted a video featuring the moments from the Olympics.

Sharing the post, he wrote, “The energy in the entire city was palpable and especially in the stadiums. And then to have the honour of seeing our very own @neeraj____chopra was the icing on the cake. Seeing our beloved tricolour in the stadium was a moment of such pride!!!

Felt like….Paradise.”

The clip includes photos of him taking selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower, holding the Tricolour at the stadium, and hugging Neeraj Chopra after his winning throw.

Earlier, Abhishek was in headlines for his heartwarming gesture for Neeraj Chopra post his silver win at Paris Olympics 2024.

A video from the post match celebration went viral in which Junior B can be seen giving a warm hug to Chopra.

Chopra, 26, fell short of retaining his gold medal, finishing with a best throw of 89.45 meters.

Despite a strong performance on his second attempt, he struggled with four consecutive foul throws, which prevented him from winning gold.

Chopra became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event.

Chopra’s first and third attempts were invalidated by red flags, and his final three attempts were fouls. Despite a strong performance in the qualification round with a throw of 89.34 meters, his 89.45-meter throw was not enough to retain his gold.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record and surpassing Denmark’s Andreas Thorkildsen’s mark from Beijing 2008. Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhishek will be seen in ‘Housefull 5’. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Chunky Pandey in key roles. (ANI)

Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza Urges People To Return To Sustainable Roots

Dia Mirza, an actor, UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and United Nations Secretary-General Advocate for Sustainable Development has often been vocal for change and has contributed her efforts in the field of social change, conservation and the environment, urged people on thinking more about India’s future.

Dia Mirza attended the Youth Sabha 2047: Shaping India’s Future event on International Youth Day on August 12.

Sharing her thoughts, Dia told ANI, “Everything we use in our daily lives comes from the Earth and has to go back to the Earth in a form and shape that is healthy for Earth and people. A few days ago, we spotlighted to the world that we had overshot the resources the Earth provides annually to all of us, it’s called Earth Overshoot Day. This happened in August…we have 4 more months in this year left and we have already surpassed in our consumption or what the earth provides. Which means we are stealing from our own children and grandchildren what they will require to live, to be healthy, to be happy.”

Dia urged people to reject single use plastics and return to sustainable roots.

She added, “Change occurs when we make individual choices. So refuse single-use plastics. The simple things that we can refuse are bottles, cutlery, crockery, use your own. I there are young people in India in villages who are starting steel banks where big occasions and big functions are being hosted without creating a single waste product, especially of plastic. So we need to go back to the basics and go back to our roots because our ancestors and our predecessors who lived and walked this earth knew that we needed to be less harmful to the earth. We are the land that serves food in leaf plates, who served water in metal ware and in clay pots.”

On Monday, several students gathered for Youth Sabha 2047, an intergenerational town hall organised in New Delhi by the United Nations Foundation and leading think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), as part of the Next Generation India Fellowship.

The Youth Sabha 2047 marks a significant milestone as India lays down a blueprint to become a developed country by 2047. The Youth Sabha brought together 11 Next Generation India Fellows, students, policymakers, government officials, civil society leaders, and diplomats for a day of engaging discussions, high-level panels, and interactive sessions aimed at shaping India’s future with the youth at the centre of it. Vyjayanthimala Saira Banu

Saira Banu Pens Special Birthday Wish For Vyjayanthimala

As legendary actor Vyjayanthimala is celebrating her 91st birthday today she received a special wish from veteran actor Saira Banu.

Taking to Instagram, Saira Banu shared throwback pictures featuring herself, her husband- late actor Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala along with a long note.

The note read, “Wishing my favourite, Padma Vibhushan, Vyjayantimalaji (Akka Elder Sister) a very happy birthday! As I write about her, you will come to know how she became Akka to me. My first memory of her is when I was visiting Mehboob Studios, with my mother, who was visiting her friend Mrs. Akhtar Mehboob Khan. I was thrilled to see such a spectacular song number of “Radha Krishna,” where Vyjayantimalaji was swirling in a beautiful Ghagra Choli.”

Saira Banu recalled meeting Vyjayanthimala while working in ‘Junglee’.

“Next, we met when I started working in “Junglee.” She saw me at a film premiere and fondly touched my cheek, saying ‘beautiful.’ I think I did not wash my face that week! I always loved the pairing of Sahib with Vyjayantimalaji; the pair has given the maximum number of hits together, and my all-time favourite is the classic “Gunga Jumna.” She did a fabulous job as Dhanno, and Sahib worked very hard on her diction to record the Purbi dialogues on tape with the correct pronunciations and dialect, she stated.

Banu also talked about the bond of legendary actor Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala.

She added, “There was a certain understanding between Sahib and Akka, and the onscreen chemistry worked in their favour. Akka once quoted that she learned a lot working with Sahib; it was amazing watching him sink into a character and become oblivious of all else. However, once there came an unfortunate misunderstanding between them, and somehow, after shooting for “Ram Aur Shyam” for a few days, she was replaced. Sahib and Akka, along with her husband Dr. Bali, would keep running into each other in Delhi at functions and celebration dinners. During one such meeting, the four of us met. Sahib and Dr. Bali sat together and chatted merrily, whereas Akka and I huddled and talked. This went on for a while, and each of them would avoid meeting the other’s gaze until I got fed up and brought the two of them together to patch up as friends again. That was quite a feat!”

Concluding the post, Banu wrote, “After this smooth sailing, Akka and her son Suchendra would always visit us at home whenever travelling from Madras. Once, there was a complicated issue troubling both of them for a long time, and Sahib and I, with sheer good luck, managed to solve that complex situation completely. Ever since, Vyjayantimala labelled me as her ‘angel,’ and as for me, Vyjayantimala turned into Akka.”

Vyjayanthimala and Dilip Kumar worked together in classics like ‘Madhumati’, ‘Naya Daur’, ‘Devdas among others.

Recently, Vyjayanthimala Bali was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan award.

In May, Vyjayanthimala received the award in the field of art from President Droupadi Murmu during the Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

Vyjayanthimala made her screen debut at the age of 16 with the Tamil film Vaazhkai (1949). ‘Devdas’, ‘Sangam’, ‘Madhumanti’ and ‘Naya Daur’ are some of her iconic films. (ANI)

Calcutta HC Orders CBI Investigation In Bengal’s Dr Rape Case

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI investigation into the sexual assault and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, on August 9.

The Court has asked the Kolkata Police to hand over all documents to the CBI immediately.

A protesting doctor reacted to the news, “We are very happy and relieved that the case has been transferred to CBI. The accused will be arrested soon now…”

Earlier today, doctors and medical students held a protest at AIIMS Delhi on Tuesday after the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) called for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services from Tuesday in solidarity against the sexual assault and murder of a woman doctor.

Earlier, The Calcutta High Court asked the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh to submit a leave application. This comes after Ghosh’s appointment as principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata immediately after his resignation from RG Kar College triggered protests.

Sandip Ghosh resigned from the position of principal at RG Kar Medical College on Monday alleging that he was being defamed on social media platforms following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital premises.

The Chief Justice division bench of the Calcutta HC was considering several PILs in the matter on Tuesday. During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned the appointment of the former principal.”How can the principal – who resigned by taking moral responsibility, be appointed as the principal of another government college? The court has asked him to submit a leave application by 3 pm today or the court will pass an order for him to leave the position,” the court observed.

A post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. An investigation has established rape and murder. Reportedly, the body of the deceased bore scratch marks, indicating that there was some struggle at the time of the incident. The family has reportedly alleged that the victim was raped and murdered.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda held a meeting with a delegation of the Indian Medical Association on Tuesday. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) demanded an impartial and thorough investigation of the case and punishment of the culprits from the West Bengal government.

IMA had written to the health minister demanding a detailed inquiry into the conditions enabling the crime as well as the steps to improve the safety of doctors especially women in the workplace. (ANI)

BSF Engages Border Villages To Fortify Security Along India-Bangladesh Border

In light of the evolving situation in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) is intensifying its efforts along the India-Bangladesh border, including its effort to orchestrate “village coordination meetings” in border villages, aiming to enlist local support for bolstering security and curbing illegal activities.

The border guarding force, responsible for maintaining security at the 4096 km India-Bangladesh border, has, in “village coordination meetings,” approached Panchayat Pradhans, Panchayat members, and villagers under the jurisdiction of its South Bengal frontier in the border villages of Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal, within their respective areas of responsibility.

A few such meetings were organised by Company Commanders of Border Outposts Chauhatia Singamora, Ichamati, Padampur, Ranghat, Madhupur, and Mysimpur of the 68th Battalion of BSF, deployed along the India-Bangladesh border under Sector Headquarters Krishnanagar, and Border Outposts Haridaspur, Goalpara, Kaijuri, Jhawdanga, Angrail, and Tentulberiya of the 5th, 85th and 102 Battalions BSF under Sector Headquarters Kolkata.

As per the BSF, the objective of these meetings was to “strengthen the relationship between the BSF and local communities.”

“BSF Company Commanders discussed the current situation in Bangladesh and emphasised the need for villagers’ cooperation in maintaining security and preventing illegal activities,” said the BSF in a statement.

The officers explained how local residents could significantly contribute to border security by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity.

“Discussions also focused on the implementation of Section 144 of the CrPC during night hours along the international border.”

Key points discussed during the meetings included the “prohibition of unnecessary civilian movement on the embankment to prevent potential security breaches.”

The BSF also informed villagers that fishing in the border area during night hours is strictly prohibited, as it poses a threat to national security.

The Public Relations Officer of the BSF, South Bengal Frontier, AK Arya (Deputy Inspector General), stated that the BSF regularly conducts coordination meetings with villagers in border areas.

“These meetings by the 68th, 05th, 85th and 102th Battalions of the BSF reflect their continuous efforts to win the hearts and minds of the border residents, thereby promoting mutual trust and cooperation for national security and community welfare,” Arya said.

He also informed that the BSF has increased security along the border and, in addition to guarding it, is raising awareness among border villagers about the current situation in Bangladesh.

“The BSF is actively engaging with the residents of these border villages to enhance cooperation with them,” added the officer. (ANI)

Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) RG Kar Medical College and Hospital

Nagpur In Wake Of FAIMA’s Dr’s Nationwide Shutdown Of OPD Services

Doctors and medical students staged a protest at Nair Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday in the wake of Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) calling for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services as a stir against the sexual assault and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

BMC MARD General Secretary Dr Akshay Dongardive said, “The woman doctor was on duty when she was raped. Post–mortem said that blood was oozing from her private parts. This is a major rape-murder case after the Nirbhaya incident. It puts us all to shame. We have joined in the nationwide protest. All resident doctors across all government hospitals in Maharashtra are observing suspension of services today. Emergency services are still operational, patients are not facing any issues.”

He further said that there should be a Central Protection Act for doctors.

“We demand justice for our sister with whom injustice has been done. We request the State Government and Centre to intervene and order a CBI inquiry at the earliest. All demands of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctors should be met. Nearly 40,000 doctors in Maharashtra are on strike,” he further said.

In Nagpur doctors and medical students staged a protest in front of OPD of Govt Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).

Dr Diksha Bajaj from the hospital said, “Doctors spend more time in hospitals than they do at their home. This is our second home. If we are not safe here, where will be safe? We demand our safety and nothing else. We are serving the patients but our safety is important too. If we are not safe, how will we do our work? We want justice. We will call off our strike, once we get justice.”

Patients are bearing the repercussions as FAIMA has called for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services. The Outpatient Department (OPD) at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was shut as patients arrived for medical and health services and stood in a queue amid uncertainty over services.

A patient standing in the queue said that he had been standing there for over 2 hours.

The patient said, “have been standing here for 2 hours. We don’t know if the hospital is open. Nobody has told us anything.”

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Kolkata doctor rape, and murder case, saying that the CM is delaying the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the matter.

IMA has written to Union Minister JP Nadda demanding a detailed inquiry into the conditions enabling the crime as well as the steps to improve the safety of doctors especially women in the workplace.

“We submit to you our demand for the safe zone, defined security measures and Central Law on violence as deterrent measures. We hope you would consider our demands favourably in the light of the deteriorating ground situation,” the IMA letter reads.

Kamala Harris Trump

Trump Targets Harris In Chat With Musk

Republican Presidential nominee and former US President Donal Trump on Monday Night (local) had a freewheeling chat on Spaces with Chief of Tesla and X Elon Musk. Trump who will run against US Vice President Kamala Harris this November tore into his Democratic opponent during his chat with Musk.

Trump labelled Kamala Harris as being ‘further left’ and said her policies would only ensure the entry of even more illegals into the US.

“I think a lot of people thought the Biden administration would be a moderate administration, but it’s not. We’re just going to see an even further-left administration with Kamala. That’s my honest opinion,” Trump said to Musk.

“We don’t have a president right now — and Kamala is even worse. She’s a San Francisco liberal who destroyed that city, destroyed California, and will destroy our country if she is elected,” he said.

Trump who has often spoken about illegal immigration into the US accused Kamala Harris and the Biden administration of allowing illegals easy access into the country.

“If Kamala gets in, we will have 50-60 million illegals from all over the world ferried right into our country. The number of illegals Kamala has welcomed into our communities is much bigger than we think. Countries are emptying their prisons — and sending them to our country. They’re bringing crime and violence to our backyards,” Trump claimed.

The former US President also accused the Biden administration of wasting their four years in office and not doing anything for the people.

“We have a defective government… We have millions of people coming in a month and then [Kamala] gets up and tries to pretend she’s going to do something. She had three and a half years and they have another five months but they won’t do anything,” he said.

Trump who in his first Presidential campaign ran on the slogan ‘Make America Great Again’ is once again championing the same cause, claiming that the American economy is facing a disaster under Biden.

“People want the American Dream back more than anything else. You don’t have that today because the people running our country just suck — they’re incompetent people. The economy is a disaster with inflation… Four years ago, people were saving a lot of money. Today they’re using all their money and borrowing money just to live.”

Trump also promised that when elected he would ensure that the US was safe from any threat more so a nuclear threat which he said was bigger than Climate change.

“We’re going to build an Iron Dome. Israel has it. We’re going to have the best Iron Dome in the world. We need it and we’re going to make it all in the United States. We’re going to have protection,” Trump said.

Elon Musk who has publicly supported Donald Trump’s bid for presidency said the issue of a safe future was why he had endorsed Trump.

“The things I think are important for the future: we’ve got to have safe cities, secure borders, sensible spending, and deregulation… that’s why I’m supporting you for President,” Musk said.

Trump also showed a softer side of himself, claiming that he wasn’t a dyed-in-the-wool Republican but the country was at a critical juncture.

“I stood in line for six hours to shake Obama’s hand when he was running for president, so it’s not like I’m some sort of dyed-in-the-wool Republican. I’d actually call myself, historically, a moderate Democrat. But now, I feel that we’re really at a critical juncture for the country,” Trump said.

The battle lines for the American Presidency are now clearly drawn, while Trump attacks Kamala Harris on immigration, Harris has targeted Trump on his stand on Abortion and LGBTQ rights. (ANI)

One Spell of Rain And Delhi-NCR Infra Collapses

‘Just One Spell of Rain, And Delhi-NCR Infra Collapses’

Akshay Gupta, a Gurgaon based consultant with the Big 4, says that India’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ is washed away by monsoon, year after year. His views:

In the last 10 years, we have seen a phenomenal growth in the NCR region in terms of economy and infrastructure giving it a noticeable presence in the world as IT hub. However, we are still struggling with basic amenities in the region which take a toll on the people living and commuting within the NCR circle.

From the extreme summer temperature of nearly 50 degree Celsius, when we welcome the monsoon, we struggle to keep the city running as it comes to a grinding halt due to lack of preparedness in terms of desilting and drainage.

This issue has been plaguing NCR for years now and every season we fail to prepare well and ahead of the monsoon season to manage this very basic problem. In recent years, we have seen water logging has impacted lives to the extreme i.e. loss of life, property, well-being, daily commuting and much more. We feel proud to be staying in the Capital and a millennium city but can we actually see it at par with cities like NYC, Tokyo, et al? The answer is NO.

During the rainy season, everyone talks about the problems they face, post on social media; talk to their known across the globe and in embarrassment express the sorry state of the city. We have a large number of people from all classes of society who commute within the NCR every day.

Forget about heavy rains, even during short spells of rain people are afraid to step out as they fear getting stranded with vehicles stuck in water due to instant waterlogging; a scene which we have continuously witnessed year after year.

ALSO READ: ‘Why Gurgaon Gets Flooded, But Noida Never Does’

Recently, we even witnessed newly constructed infrastructure crumbling – T1 Airport and people losing their lives. Isn’t it big enough reason to act now? Drains open up and drown people during waterlogging. Such deaths due to negligence on part of the government have been a regular feature.

People have stayed back in offices and forced to sleep there. The slush and drain water comes onto the roads bringing diseases. It’s a one big vicious circle of dirt, disease and death. But the point is that the common man alone suffers. And that is why there has been no action on this uncalled for nuisance.

Our government talks about building the nation and taking the economy to heights we haven’t ever seen but every citizen should first be able to enjoy the basics of living in a capital city. Hence, it’s time that the government takes cognizance of this serious issue. We are witnessing huge investments in the region to build infrastructure – world class roads, offices, residential complex, malls etc. but where is point of new infrastructure when you can’t maintain the existing ones?

There has to be a conscious effort and investment which has to be put in to fix this problem from the root. Moreover, investors who are putting in their money in building the region need to question the authorities as there are big promises but hardly anything has been given in terms of amenities.

While we are certainly doing great as an economy and are on a track to build a progressing nation but leaders of the state should ask themselves that isn’t it most important that citizens should feel safe and happy living in the country while we enjoy the journey to build a developed nation?

Army Soldier Assaulted

Army Soldier Assaulted At Police Station, Rajyavardhan Questions Conduct

In a recent incident at Shastri Path police station in Jaipur, a soldier was reportedly beaten by police officers, prompting a visit from Rajasthan’s Minister for Industries and Sports, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

The minister expressed strong disapproval of the police conduct and demanded accountability.

On Monday afternoon, Minister Rathore made an unannounced visit to the Shastri Path police station, where he criticised the actions of the station officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sanjay Sharma.

According to Rathore, a soldier stationed in Kashmir, who had come to Jaipur for personal reasons, was detained and subjected to inhumane treatment at the police station. The soldier was allegedly stripped, beaten, and insulted with derogatory remarks about the military.

“This mentality is truly condemnable, and I am confident that the Rajasthan government will take action against those who harbour such views. His medical report clearly indicates that he was assaulted without cause. Those who break the law must be punished,” Rathore said while speaking to ANI.

Minister Rathore condemned the language used by the officers, calling it unacceptable. He urged strict action against the responsible parties and requested that the Jaipur Police Commissioner and the Director General of Police ensure appropriate measures are taken.

The minister’s visit and his reprimand of the police officers were captured in a video that is now widely circulating on social media. (ANI)
