Fawad’s Bollywood Film ‘Abir Gulaal’ To Not Release In India

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s comeback film ‘Abir Gulaal’ is facing a potential ban on its release in India following calls for its boycott in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Sources from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India on Thursday said that the film, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, will not be allowed to release in India.

This came after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) urged for complete non-cooperation with all Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians within the Indian film and entertainment industry.

In a statement released on Wednesday, FWICE issued a blanket boycott on all Pakistani artists while taking note of the recent collaboration of Bollywood with Fawad Khan.

“Despite the ongoing directive, we’ve been made aware of the recent collaboration with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan for the Hindi film, Abir Gulaal. In light of the recent attack in Pahalgam, FWICE is once again compelled to issue a blanket boycott on all Pakistani artists, singers and technicians participating in any Indian film or entertainment projects. This includes performances or collaborations occurring anywhere in the world,” the FWICE said.

The original directive had been issued in 2019 after the Pulwama terror attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.

Fawad took to his Instagram platform to share his deepest condolences with the families of the terror attack victims and expressed grief over their loss.

“Deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrifying incident, and we pray for strength and healing for their families in this difficult time,” Fawad posted.

With the Aarti S Bagdi directorial ‘Abir Gulaal’ originally scheduled for a May 9 release, Fawad was poised for a highly awaited comeback to Bollywood after nine years.

The actor was last seen in the Bollywood film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016). Being a Pakistani citizen, the actor was banned from India following the 2016 Uri Attack. (ANI)

People Were Howling And Crushing Each Other To Escape: Terror Attack Survivor

Two days after the harrowing Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, survivors are recalling their chilling escape stories.

Tilak Rupchandani, a tourist from Nagpur, Maharashtra, who survived the attack, recalled the incident and said, “It was in no time that such a heavenly moment turned into an unimaginable hellish disaster”.

“I find myself lucky to have been standing exactly at the exit when the attack happened. It was a narrow exit; I was standing at the exit door, which was about 4 feet tall. When everyone heard the bullet sounds coming from the garden, people gathered in the hall, and the place became overcrowded. It was too crowded; we couldn’t see what was happening on the other side (in the garden). I pushed my wife out through the exit,” he said.

Rupchandani, along with his son and wife, headed towards the nearby jungle and walked mindlessly for around 7 to 8 kilometres away from the place of attack.

A local then helped Rupchandani and his family reach the parking area where his car was parked. The family took the vehicle and went to a nearby hospital to get Rupchandani’s wife treated for the fracture she had received while climbing up the hill when walking into the jungle.

From hospital, the family drove to Srinagar in their car and then took a flight to Mumbai.

“When we were climbing up the hill, I saw a man lamenting over leaving his dead brother behind without a second thought,” Rupchandani told ANI. “There were many people mounting the hill with us; everyone was trying to run away from that spot.”

He remembered the chilling incident where people were howling and crushing each other in the hall in an attempt to escape.

Arjun Krishna tells a similar escape story. Krishna, a resident of Trichy in Tamil Nadu, is one of the survivors. Before the attack happened, Krishna and his family had been planning to visit the place of incident.

“We were previously planning to visit the spot where the attack occurred. We were about 1 to 2 kilometres away from that place. But then we heard about the attack in Pahalgam.”

Terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and one from Nepal while leaving several others injured, in one of the deadliest attacks in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed. (ANI)

Two Pakistani Terrorists, One JK Local Operative Identified Behind Pahalgam Attack

Police have also announced a bounty of Rs 20 lakh for each of the three terrorists.

The first sketch is that of Adil Hussain Thoker, a native of Anantnag.

The second terror operative has been identified as Ali Bhai, also known as Talha Bhai.

The third terror operative, identified as Hasim Musa, also known as Suleiman.

Of the three LeT operatives, Musa and Talha are suspected to be Pakistani terrorists, while Thokar is a Kashmiri local.

A reward of Rs 20,00000 has been offered for any information on any of these terrorists. The Public have been asked to contact the SSP of Anantnag on 9596777666 or the PCR in Anantnag on 9596777669.

Meanwhile, asserting that India will not rest until “justice” is pursued, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and said that India will “pursue the terrorists to the end of the earth.”

Addressing people at National Panchayati Raj Day in Bihar’s Madhubani, Prime Minister Modi said that the entire nation is saddened by the brutality with which terrorists killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam.

“On April 22, terrorists killed innocent people of the country in J-K’s Pahalgam… The country is in mourning and pain following this incident. We stand with the families of the victims. Today, from the soil of Bihar, I tell you, India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers. We will pursue them to the end of the earth. Terrorism will never break India’s spirit. Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is on our side. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders, who have stood with us in these times,” PM Modi said.

“I want to say in unambiguous words that these terrorists and those who conspired towards this attack will get a punishment bigger than they can imagine. The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the masters of terror,” he added.

Ahead of his address in Madhubani, PM Modi also observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to those who were killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. (ANI)

Terrorism, Religion & Sinister Social Media Solutions

Imagine being in a meadow whose beauty is a thing of poetry – bloodied in seconds, changing the landscape of joy into that of brutality, and unspeakable cruelty. Some 26 men on vacation, dead.

The irony? The people who were part of the rescue belonged to the same community as that of the perpetrators – Muslim.

As expected in times of grief, the human tendency of looking for a culprit quickly. And, as expected it led influencers on social media and hurt citizens to demonize an entire community. Isn’t it understandable that the country, currently seething over the loss of its majorly Hindu brethren in Pahalgam, is up in arms against an invisible force that seems to follow a particular religion?

Instagram is brimming with posts that read, “Terrorism has a religion.” And, boy, does it not!

The perpetrators are Muslims, and they hate Hindus, and now we hate them back with a vengeance. This is what entire generations of the nation have grown listening to, internalising, normalising. Whether or not the perpetrators follow Islam, or the victims Hinduism is a different topic.

But, what is more surprising is that no one is talking about the tall post-demonetisation, post-370 Abrogation claims of the ruling party that terrorism in the Valley has now been dealt with.

Jammu Kashmir is still a sensitive zone, its residents not better treated post abrogation of Article 370. Did we actually believe, suppressing a state, a community won’t lead to the pressure cooker exploding? That just the abrogation was enough to reduce deployment of security forces, with no permanent solution?

In a debate with Arnab Goswami, General Gagandeep Bakshi highlighted the concerns surrounding the three-year moratorium on Army recruitment and the reduction of personnel by more than 1,00,000. India’s defence budget as a share of the GDP has been declining too, almost halving in the last decade.

But, if so much security is needed in Kashmir, isn’t Islam problematic?

First, to conflate Kashmiris with Muslims and terrorism is an oversimplification of the socio-political climate in the state.

Terrorists have a lot of tools at their disposal: propaganda, manipulation, force, and blackmail. And, Kashmiris are the biggest victims of these acts of terror. They face a three-pronged attack: by the general sentiment of hatred against them, by the terrorists on their lives, and lastly, the attack on their livelihood that follows from this isolation.

Besides, calling Islam a face of terrorism is not just factually incorrect but also dangerous. To begin with, by that logic, it might not be the only face of terrorism. In 2013, TIME Magazine called Wirathu, a Buddhist monk, the Burmese Bin Laden. But, you would be wrong to think he was the only one involved.

A report from Human Rights Watch highlights the role played by the Burmese local authorities and Buddhist monks in forcibly displacing over hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas in the region.

In fact, in recent years, the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), which ruled Burma (now Myanmar) from 1988 to 2011, actively pushed for the conversion of ethnic minorities, often through coercive methods, as part of its assimilation efforts. The regime promoted Burmese Buddhist nationalism as both a cultural and political ideology to justify its controversial rule, attempting to merge Buddhism with its totalitarian beliefs.

To add to it, it’s not just Myanmar that showcases a link between Buddhism, and terrorism. Thailand and Sri Lanka are also affected by Buddhist aggression.

In the Middle East, we see Jews taking advantage of the hospitality shown by Palestinians, eventually taking up more than 80% of Palestinian land since 1998.

During World War I, Britain entered into agreements to secure the backing of different factions in the Middle East leading to the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which led to the “establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”. The mandate led to Jewish immigration from Europe to Palestine between the 1910s and the 1940s, which resulted in the Jewish population reaching 33 percent by 1947. On May 14, 1948, the British Mandate ended, and Zionist leaders declared a state, starting the first Arab-Israeli war. About 750,000 Palestinians were expelled, and Zionists captured 78 percent of the land, leaving 22 percent, which was divided into the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In 2024, we have land grabs in the name of settlers added to the Israeli government’s annexation registry.

Now, if we take a look at the United States of America, its gun violence statistics, racism, and recent news regarding migrants, we can safely say, there is a certain kind of violence that is rampant in the Christian community too. Remember, several decades back, Christians from the land of the sophisticated, the United Kingdom, inflicted the Jallianwala bagh tragedy, and left the poorest in India to die of starvation? Wasn’t this brutal colonialism just another form of terrorism?

ALSO READ: Lynch Militia And Communal Fault Lines

In recent years, people from Hindu commnity have taken a certain interest in lynching, hate speech, and calls to genocide within and outside their community. Cases in point are the Manipur conflict, the Karnataka-Maharashtra linguistic showdown, and attacks on churches & mosques during Hindu festivals.

One might go on and on and talk a little bit about a few other religions. But, I think, the point is made. No religion teaches violence, yet fanatics across the spectrum find reasons for aggressive conduct. So, there is indeed a correlation between religion and terrorism.

But what happens when you find people like Waheed – the first responder after the Pahalgam carnage, or Syed Adil Shah – the man who sacrificed his life trying to protect the tourists from terrorists? Those Lucknowees who open their hearts to you in Ameenabad? The Hindus who open their homes for Muslims during riots? The Sikhs who feed the Kashmiri Muslims when everyone else closes their doors? Makes the Insta correlation between religion and terrorism a bit imperfect, doesn’t it?

While we have all learnt to hate, and learnt to hate well, it might be a good time to note that in times of communalism, it’s you and me who suffer and not those who fuel it from the top. So, while some of us question their allegiance of every Kashmiri, putting a question mark on their dignity, remember we are making them apologise consistently for crimes they didn’t commit. Going by statistics, it’s clear that Muslims in Kashmir have suffered more from terrorism than Hindus. And, one life is not dearer or cheaper than another.

This is not to say that the terrorists might not have local help, but a blanket hatred towards Kashmiris will only alienate a community that has already felt orphaned since Independence.

Alienating Kashmiris and Kashmir, a state we claim is not occupied but integral to the nation, would mean playing into the hands of those who seek to divide us – neither good for Hindus nor for Muslims.

Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu Announces ₹10 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Pahalgam Terror Victims

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Two residents of Andhra Pradesh, a retired bank employee, JS Chandramouli and an IT professional, Madhusudan from Kavali, were among 26 who were killed in Pahalgam.

“Reaffirming the state’s commitment to national security, CM Naidu announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the two killed from Andhra Pradesh — Chandramouli and IT professional Madhusudan from Kavali,” the release said.

The Chief Minister arrived in Visakhapatnam late Wednesday night to pay tribute to retired bank employee JS Chandramouli, one of the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. Chandramouli, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was among those killed in the assault.

CM Naidu received Chandramouli’s mortal remains at Visakhapatnam Airport, where he offered floral tributes and consoled the bereaved family. Accompanied by Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu, state Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat, the Chief Minister walked alongside the funeral vehicle for a distance, the release said.

Addressing the media, Chandrababu Naidu condemned the attack in the strongest terms and emphasised national unity in the face of such threats. He stated that eyewitness accounts revealed Chandramouli had tried to flee before being gunned down, describing the attack as an organised and premeditated act of terror.

“This is not just an attack on individuals but an assault on India’s integrity and peace,” said the Chief Minister. He noted that India had recently seen peaceful elections and growing employment opportunities, especially in Kashmir, making such attacks all the more heinous.

“This is a time for unity. I appeal to every citizen to support the Union Government’s efforts in safeguarding the country. Anyone attempting to destabilise our nation will face the strictest consequences,” he said.

“India is destined to rise to the top globally by 2047. Such attacks are the desperate attempts of forces trying to derail our progress,” he concluded. The entire nation stands united in grief and determination to defeat terrorism in all its forms, CM noted. (ANI)
