Punjab: 57,000 Animals Affected In Ajnala, Govt Sets Up 16 Relief Camps For Treatment

The recent flooding events have had a significant impact on animal populations in Ajnala district of Punjab.

On the flood condition, speaking to ANI, Ravinder Singh Kang, Assistant Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, shared that 140 villages in the Ajnala area have been affected by the flood, with around 57,000 animals suffering due to the disaster.

The Punjab government has set up 16 relief camps across the region to support affected animals. Medicines and animal feed are being provided based on need.

Kang further stated that teams from the department, along with NGOs, are visiting homes door-to-door to provide treatment and assistance.

He also explained that the floodwaters have caused infections, especially in the lower limbs of many animals, while others are facing stress due to a shortage of food.

Kang urged animal owners to take extra care of their livestock during these difficult times. He advised them to stay in touch with doctors and ensure proper care.

With hotter weather approaching, Kang emphasised the importance of providing animals with green powders and necessary nutrition to maintain their health and prevent further complications.

“The Animal Husbandry Department continues to work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of animals in flood-affected areas,” he added.

While speaking with ANI, Pardeep Singh, a veterinary doctor, reported that around 160 animals affected by illness or injuries during the recent floods have been brought to a veterinary camp for treatment.

The doctor stated that since the camp started, only 50 to 60 animals have been staying there. The rest have recovered and returned to their places. All animals, including cows, cats, dogs, and goats, are being treated free of cost by the Punjab government at this camp. Once fully recovered, the animals are sent back to their homes to reunite with their owners.

“There are 10 relief veterinary camps which are connected to Ajanla’s village,” said Dr Pardeep Singh

Appreciating the initiative of the Punjab government, animal owners appreciated and, said, “It’s a very good initiative that all animals affected by illness or injuries during the flood are being treated free of cost.”

He added that everything is available at the camp, including medicines and animal food.

The veterinary doctor also mentioned that owners cannot take their animals home until the floodwaters recede, but assured that the animals will be well cared for until then. (ANI)

Tiananmen Square To Nepal Gen Z: Legacy of Youth Struggles

Youth is a beautiful, enchanting, delicate, and fluid phase of life an age that tests a thousand new challenges. The wings of youth hold the strength to conquer the skies, which is why it is considered the most powerful stage of life. In truth, all dreams of tomorrow and the expansion of every new imagination are born in this phase. Youth is that intoxicated, restless moment where one seeks to catch a glimpse of the rising sun of the future.

Youth is not an age of silent acceptance. Across the world, young people have been writing history ushering in change, revolutions, and progress. We see youth in many forms: walking on the moon, exploring space, conducting massive experiments to uncover the mysteries of Earth, or hoisting victory flags at the Olympics.

Youth means love, bravery, courage, adventure, and valor. It is an age of questioning the system, rebelling against injustice, raising voices against what is wrong, and sparking movements to overthrow oppressive power. Youth does not merely dwell in dreams but dares to confront harsh realities. Be it staging protests, shaking the very foundations of tyranny, or laying down life for change, this has been the hallmark of youth.

History offers countless examples: Shankaracharya, at just 31, spread Hindu philosophy. Plato and Aristotle, who laid the foundation of human thought, were young. Buddha delivered his profound teachings in his youth. Revolutions in France and America were led by the young. Even in India’s freedom struggle, youth played the central role. Nehru was only 26 when he came under Gandhi’s influence, Maulana Azad was 35, Patel was 40, Ambedkar spearheaded reform in his younger days, and Bhagat Singh laid down his life at 23. The Indian freedom struggle was essentially a struggle of youth.

Time and again, whenever youth have taken to the streets, they have shaken the roots of oppressive regimes the Jasmine Revolution in Egypt, the Hijab protests in Iran, the Tiananmen Square massacre in China, student movements in Bangladesh, and now the uprising in Nepal. Just this Monday, the streets of Kathmandu witnessed a powerful sight as Generation Z marched in protest holding banners reading: “We will not let corruption sell the future of youth.” In fact, when the authoritarian government imposed restrictions on social media, Generation Z in Nepal rose in defiance. The protests have now turned bloody, with reports of casualties emerging.

But this is not the first such struggle. Earlier too, youth have blown the bugle of revolution, recalling echoes of China and Bangladesh’s student movements. Let us revisit some of the most significant youth uprisings that shook the world.

Tiananmen Square Massacre (1989): The world still trembles recalling the night of June 3–4, 1989, when China’s People’s Liberation Army used tanks to crush student protests demanding democracy. While official figures spoke of 200 deaths, independent estimates suggest nearly 10,000 students were killed in this brutal crackdown.

Tunisia’s Jasmine Revolution (2011): This mass uprising laid the foundation of the Arab Spring. Tunisians were angered by corruption, unemployment, and rising prices. The tragic self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, a young street vendor harassed by police, sparked nationwide outrage, ultimately forcing President Ben Ali to resign.

Egyptian Youth Revolution (2011): Here, young protesters brought down Hosni Mubarak, who had ruled for 30 years. Millions of youth filled Cairo’s Tahrir Square and other cities, protesting corruption, unemployment, poverty, and lack of freedom. Mubarak was finally forced to step down on January 25, 2011.

Hong Kong Protests (2020): The largest youth-led protests in recent decades, opposing the extradition bill and increasing Chinese interference. In 2019, Hong Kong’s government introduced a law allowing the transfer of suspects to mainland China, which triggered massive demonstrations led by students and youth.

Iran’s Hijab Protest (2022): Triggered by the death of a woman beaten for not wearing the hijab, young women and men rose in defiance. Images of women cutting their hair and burning hijabs went viral on social media. This movement soon transformed into a larger struggle against dictatorship, religious extremism, and the suppression of women’s rights.

Bangladesh Student Movement (2024): On August 5, 2024, violent student protests brought down Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. Youth-led demonstrations against corruption and authoritarianism swept the nation, leading to a new government under Muhammad Yunus.

From philosophy to politics, from revolutions to reforms, one fact has been proven time and again: it is the youth who drive change. Youth is not just about dreamy illusions or romantic memories; it is about leading movements, overthrowing governments, and rewriting history. Whether it was challenging Russia’s Iron Curtain or facing down tanks in Tiananmen Square, it has always been the youth who dared to stand at the frontlines.

‘Unfortunate That Rahul Is Targeting Election Commission For Political Gains’

Prof Amar Bahadur Shukla from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University says Rahul Gandhi must show a conclusive proof of vote theft instead of repeatedly targeting the ECI. His views:

The Election Commission of India is a constitutional body and an autonomous authority under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution, which is delegated to hold free and fair elections at various levels elections in the country. If a political party, in this case the Indian National Congress and its allies, allege that it is acting in a partisan manner and indulging in “vote theft”, then it is a serious matter of concern.

However, in spite of repeated allegations at multiple public platforms, Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, has not provided any conclusive proof for the charges levelled at the Election Commission.

With the entire fiasco of the alleged vote theft, some of the political parties are referring to the so called illegal or fraudulent practices used to manipulate election results, undermining the democracy at large while trying to prevent the true will of the people from being represented. And as the general public (read the voters) are so well informed thanks to the social media, the entire ruckus, started in the parliament (in both the houses) with allegations and criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, only appears to be a step to confuse people.

The ECI, however, also took confronting steps and even, in a way, challenged the so called ‘protesters and saviours’ of democracy by holding an open press conference and rejected all the allegations. Despite a stern warning by the ECI, to submit an affidavit with proof or produce a written apology in front of the nation no one turned up till now. So, when the ECI claims its stand for its neutrality and impartiality toward the people of the country, why is no one coming up with justifications is a question equally looming in the minds of the voters and the ‘deleted’ voters.

ALSO READ: Is Rahul The Last Mughal of Gandhi Dynasty?

Besides this, the ECI has been working round the clock providing facts and data about the recently concluded SIR in Bihar and according to the statistics available widely in the media, over 90 per cent of the cross checking of the legal votes and substantiating legal documents (for the genuine votes) has been completed. This clearly squares off the matter that only fake or wrong names have been removed from the voter list and it is also not true that only the poor are being struck off. People have been given enough time to submit proper documents and prove that their names were wrongly deleted.

Therefore it can be said that this matter is completely political and it is very unfortunate that legal and constitutional institutions like the ECI are being questioned, defamed and, in a way, hurdles are being created to stop it from working and producing before the upcoming Bihar elections.

If ‘Vote Chori’ was a genuine concern, would it not be raised in the Himachal Pradesh and Telangana elections by the ruling government? Or was it, just as claimed by the opposition parties, a bait to make them forget the process in the bigger elections like the Lok Sabha of the 2024?

Here the role of the media is very important to be neutral and provide impartial information to the people so that confusions can be eradicated. The whole debate will certainly have an impact in the Bihar elections – positively or negatively, specially for BJP but vote theft is not a big issue here because there are more issues in Bihar like unemployment, poverty, lack of quality education, insufficient health infrastructure and mechanisms. This unnecessary debate is becoming a crucial issue in the political sphere of Bihar that needs to be addressed and all political parties should focus on more genuine issues related to the common people instead of confusing them.

SSB Nabs Five Nepal Jail Escapees At India-Nepal Border In Siddharthnagar

In a swift action, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) apprehended five prisoners who had escaped from a jail in Nepal and were attempting to cross into India, officials said.

The prisoners were caught along the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district while attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory.

According to officials, the escapees were intercepted by SSB personnel during a check at the border outpost and were immediately taken into custody.

Subsequently, these prisoners were later handed over to the local police for further investigation and legal action.

Officials said the five were held as they could not show any valid identity proofs to the SSB troops deployed on the border. “During initial inquiry, it was found that they were among those prisoners who escaped from Nepal jail yesterday,” the official, requesting anonymity, told ANI.

A large number of inmates escaped the Dillibazar jail in Nepal’s Kathmandu amid chaos during the ongoing anti-corruption protests.

The SSB, one of the Central Armed Police Forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is tasked with guarding India’s 1,751-km-long open border with Nepal and the 699-km stretch along Bhutan, is vigilant since unrest following ‘Gen-Z’ led protests across Nepal.

Officials said the prisoners were held due to vigilance by SSB troops. However, the Nepalese Army has been deployed in and around the jail to prevent further escalation, as law enforcement struggles to maintain control in the capital.

This comes as the police reportedly withdrew from their post in Nepal, except for the police headquarters. (ANI)

EU To Launch ‘Eastern Flank Watch’, Build Drone Wall After Russian Breach In Poland

Top European leaders on Wednesday (local time) condemned Russia’s drone swarm attack on Poland and pledged stronger border defences, announcing plans to launch an ‘Eastern Flank Watch’ and build a “drone wall” to protect EU airspace in coordination with NATO.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced new plans to strengthen security. “We will launch an ‘Eastern Flank Watch’ programme to improve real-time surveillance of EU countries bordering Russia. We will build a drone wall,” she said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk praised the quick action of Polish and NATO forces in intercepting the drones. “My thanks and congratulations to the Polish Operational Command and our NATO pilots for shooting down Russian drones over Poland. Actions speak louder than words,” he said.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed support for Poland but stressed the need for peace. “Hungary stands in full solidarity with Poland following the recent drone incident. The violation of Poland’s territorial integrity is unacceptable. The incident proves that our policy of calling for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war is reasonable and rational. Living in the shadow of a war is fraught with risks and dangers. It’s time to make it stop! To this end, we support the efforts of President @realDonaldTrump aimed at achieving peace,” Orban said.

EU Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, and for Implementation and Simplification, Valdis Dombrovskis, supporting von der Leyen’s remarks, underlined the EU’s commitment to defending its territory. “The EU will defend every inch of its territory. The @EU_Commission will launch an Eastern Flank Watch programme to provide the EU with independent strategic capabilities, to improve real-time surveillance of our Eastern border, and will build a Wall of Drones,” he said.

Earlier, Poland’s military said that it shot down drones which breached its airspace during a Russian strike on Ukraine, CNN reported.

According to CNN, this is the first time Poland has taken such action, raising fears of a major provocation for Europe and NATO forces.

“This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens,” Poland’s Operation Command said in a post on X.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the country’s airspace had been violated by “a huge number of Russian drones” which were shot down by its military. Tusk was in close communication with Poland’s allies and the Secretary General of NATO regarding the incident, according to CNN.

French President Emmanuel Macron, condemning the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during attacks on Ukraine, called it “simply unacceptable” and a “reckless escalation.”

Reacting to the breach of Polish airspace by Russian drones, NATO spokesperson Alison Hart said, “Numerous drones entered Polish airspace overnight and were met with Polish and NATO air defences. @SecGenNATO is in touch with Polish leadership and @NATO is consulting closely with Poland.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also warned Europe and NATO of an escalating threat from Russia after a massive barrage of missiles and drones struck Ukraine. Among them were Russian-Iranian “Shahed” drones, eight of which crossed into Polish airspace.

“The attacks targeted at least 15 regions, causing one death. Rescuers were working in Volochysk, Khmelnytskyi region, after a missile hit a sewing workshop. As of now, three people are reported injured. This is just one of the sites of today’s massive Russian attack: about 415 drones of various types and more than 40 cruise and ballistic missiles. Fifteen of our regions were under attack. Sadly, one person was killed as a result of shelling in the Zhytomyr region. My condolences to the family and loved ones,” Zelenskyy said.

Using the drones’ breach of NATO airspace as an example of rising risks, Zelenskyy added, “Today there was another step of escalation – Russian-Iranian ‘Shaheds’ operated in the airspace of Poland, in NATO airspace. It was not just one ‘shahed’ that could be called an accident, but at least eight strike drones aimed toward Poland.”

Calling the incident an “extremely dangerous precedent for Europe,” he urged stronger measures.

“The Russians must feel the consequences. Russia must feel that the war cannot be expanded and will have to be ended. The pause in sanctions has gone on far too long. Delaying restrictions on Russia and its accomplices only means increasing the brutality of the strikes. Sufficient weapons are needed to deter Russia. A strong response is needed – and it can only be a joint response by all partners: Ukraine, Poland, all Europeans, and the United States. I thank everyone who is helping,” Zelenskyy said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also pressed Western partners to act faster against Moscow. “Russian drones flying into Poland during the massive attack on Ukraine show that Putin’s sense of impunity keeps growing because he was not properly punished for his previous crimes. Putin just keeps escalating, expanding his war, and testing the West. The longer he faces no strength in response, the more aggressive he gets. A weak response now will provoke Russia even more–and then Russian missiles and drones will fly even further into Europe,” he said.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, voicing similar concerns, called the Russian drone incursion a sign of wider danger for Europe.

“Russia is deliberately expanding its aggression, posing an ever-growing threat to Europe. The drone swarm over Polish territory is yet another proof, as is its threatening rhetoric towards NATO’s Eastern flank. The world must stop the aggressor — break its war economy and its ability to destroy and kill,” Nauseda said. (ANI)
