Dhami Chairs High-Level Meet Over New Land Laws

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday held a high-level meeting over land law at his official residence in the state capital. Dehradun.

According to sources, the CM directed officials that a large-scale public hearing should be held by the committee tasked with drafting the new land law, and opinions and suggestions from the public and experts across diverse fields should be actively sought and incorporated.

The CM added that Garhwal and Kumaon commissioners should also be included in the decentralised system for land law.

Further, on the instructions of the chief minister, it was decided that in the interest of the state and the public, till the submission of the report of the Land Law Committee or further orders, district magistrates will not allow the proposal of permission to persons outside Uttarakhand to purchase land for agriculture and horticulture purposes.

Even earlier, CM Dhami had given instructions to purchase land only after background verification of the buyer.

According to an amendment to the existing land laws in 2004, under Section 154 of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari and Land System Act 1950, persons who are not holders of immovable property in Uttarakhand before September 12, 2003, are allowed to purchase land for agriculture and horticulture from the district officer concerned.

There is also a provision for granting permission by the state government.

A drafting committee has since been constituted by the state government to come up with new land laws for Uttarakhand.

During the meeting, CM Dhami directed that the draft be prepared expeditiously by the committee after taking on board suggestions from experts and people from a wide spectrum of arenas or fields.

He said all decisions by the government were being taken in the interest of the people.

He added that the government was working continuously in this direction, considering the sentiments of the public. (ANI)

Aditya-L1 Set To Reach Its Destination On Jan 6: ISRO Chief

India’s maiden solar mission — Aditya-L1 – launched on September 2, is set for its final manoeuvre to reach its intended destination L1 point on January 6, ISRO Chairman S Somanath told ANI on Monday.

“Aditya-L1 is going to reach its L1 point on January 6 and we are going to do the final manoeuvre to keep it there,” the ISRO chief said, on the sidelines of the successful launch of XPoSat mission to study black holes.

So far in its journey, the spacecraft has undergone four earth-bound manoeuvres and a Trans-Lagrangean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) manoeuvres, all successfully

Addressing reporters on the very first day of 2024, Somanath said ISRO has about 12-14 missions in pipeline this year.

“Only in 12 months (in 2024), we have to have a minimum of 12 missions on our target. It may exceed depending upon our ability to produce hardware, complete the testing and if things go well. If it is not going well, there could be an impact. Otherwise, we are getting ready for at least 12-14 missions,” he said, without getting into much of the specifics.

About the Gaganyaan mission, he said at least two more abort missions would be done, one unmanned mission though target to do two, parachutes drop tests, and 100s of valuation tests would be conducted before the actual launch in 2025.

“2024 is going to be the year for Gaganyaan readiness…Along with that, we will have a helicopter-based drop test to prove the parachute systems; there will be multiple drop tests. We also will have many hundreds of valuation tests. So it is going to be a Gaganyaan year,” ISRO chief added.

Meanwhile, earlier today, the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) to study X-ray emission from various celestial sources was launched successfully, and its lift-off was normal.

Addressing the scientists after the successful launch of the mission, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief S Somanath said the PSLV-C58 vehicle placed the satellite precisely into the intended orbit of 650 km, with a 6-degree inclination.

“From this point, the orbit of the PSLV will be reduced to a lower orbit, where the upper stage of the PSLV which is now described as POEM will carry out experiments with nine of the onboard payloads and that will take some time,” Somanath added.

It is India’s first observation of black holes, though other countries have done such studies earlier.

Somanath said it took 7 years to build this satellite.

“We want to create at least 100 scientists who can understand this aspect and contribute to the knowledge of black holes to the world,” he added.

In a stellar display of prowess, India soared to new heights in 2023 with the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the south pole of the moon and the launch of Aditya-L1, India’s first solar mission.

These milestones not only secured India’s standing in the global space economy but also fueled the engines for the private space sector in India.

Among other feats India now aims for are the Gaganyaan Mission in 2024-2025, setting up ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ by 2035, and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040. (ANI)

Muslims in Andhra Pradesh in 2004 by reducing Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservations

I Urge Youths To Explore AI Tools: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation in the year’s last ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episode before the country heads into the high-octane election year, pointed out how innovative technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), has brought about convenience in different sectors of society.

Recalling the Kashi-Tamil Sangmam event in Uttar Pradesh, where the indigenous AI-powered Bhashini app ensured proper translation of his words from Hindi to Tamil with ease, he said that the people who participated in the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam were elated by this experiment.

“A few days ago, there was an experiment in Kashi that I would certainly like to share with Mann Ki Baat listeners. You must be aware that thousands of people have reached Kashi from Tamil Nadu to take part in Kashi-Tamil Sangamam. There, for the first time, I used ‘Bhashini’ the Artificial intelligence (AI) tool to communicate with them from a public platform. I was addressing in Hindi from the Dais but thanks to the AI tool Bhashini, the people of Tamil Nadu who were present there were listening to my address in Tamil, translated in real-time,” PM Modi said at the 108th episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.

The PM further said that technology is a new beginning and expressed hope that it will help his voice reach the masses more easily.

“That day is not far, when a speech would be delivered in any language, but the audience would be able to listen to the same speech in their language in real time. The same feature would also be available in movies in the future. In which the audience in a theatre hall would get to listen to real-time translations with the help of AI.

He added that such technology would bring ease of functioning in different sectors, including the judiciary and education, once it was implemented there.

“A huge transformation will take place in our schools, hospitals and courts when this technology is extensively used,” he said.

The Prime Minister further urged the young generation to explore AI tools related to real-time translation in a bigger way and also make them 100 per cent full proof.

Earlier on December 17, a real-time Artificial Intelligence-based translation tool was used during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi.

This was done through ‘Bhashini’ for those in the audience who understood Tamil. ‘Bhashini’ is an AI-led language translation system that enables people to speak in their own language while talking to speakers of other Indian languages.

Meanwhile, BJP National President JP Nadda, along with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, heard PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme in Lucknow.

The 107rd edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was aired on November 26, when PM Modi asked the citizens not to organise weddings abroad and urged people of the country to hold wedding celebrations in the country.

The popular programme on All India Radio, Prime Minister Mann Ki Baat, was started on October 3, 2014 and is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am. The 30-minute programme completed its 100 episodes on April 30, 2023.

The Mann Ki Baat programme is a platform where the Prime Minister communicates directly with the people of the country. Through this programme, the Prime Minister informs and inspires the people of the country on various topics.

Mann ki Baat has impacted all sections of society, who have been inspired to contribute towards fulfilling the great goals he has set for the nation. (ANI)

Pak: 14-Y-O Fatally Shoots Sister While Making TikTok

In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old girl fatally shot her sister during a dispute over a TikTok video in Sarai Alamgir town, located in Punjab’s Gujrat district, as reported by ARY News.

As per details, a quarrel erupted between the two sisters, Saba Afzal and Maria Afzal, while they were filming a video for the popular social media platform.

Following the intense argument, the 14-year-old, Saba Afzal, took a drastic step by shooting her sister. A case has been filed against the young suspect based on a complaint lodged by her brother with the Saddar Police Station.

This distressing incident echoes a similar tragedy from December, where three youths lost their lives while engaged in filming a video for TikTok near Sheikhupura district.

The unfortunate victims, residents of Khanqah Dogran city in Safdarabad Tehsil, were on a motorcycle recording a TikTok video. Unfortunately, due to distraction, their motorcycle collided head-on with a car approaching from the opposite direction, resulting in the tragic demise of all three youngsters.

Notably, on December 24, Jamia Binoria Town, a prominent religious school in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, issued a fatwa (a religious decree) declaring the use of TikTok illegal and ‘haram’, terming it the biggest temptation of the modern era, Pakistani vernacular media reported.

In the fatwa, the institution outlined ten reasons supporting its stance.

The fatwa, delivered online by Jamia Binoria, asserts that TikTok poses an increasing danger as a ‘fitna’ (temptation) in the present age and is considered illegal and haram from a Shariah perspective.

Among the reasons cited, the app’s inclusion of photos and videos of animals is deemed forbidden in Sharia, and the creation and dissemination of obscene videos by women on the platform is highlighted, Dawn News TV report added.

Furthermore, the fatwa condemns the practice of men and women on TikTok making videos involving dancing and singing, which is viewed as a means of spreading obscenity and nudity, deemed a waste of time and leading to moral decay.

Jamia Banoria’s fatwa underscores that TikTok not only contains videos that mock scholars and religion but is a platform where everything can be subjected to mockery and ridicule.

In the past, religious scholars have been calling for a ban on TikTok as a reason for spreading immorality, and a partial ban has also been imposed on TikTok time and again in Pakistan, Dawn News TV reported.

In 2021, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority imposed a five-month ban on the video-sharing app from July to November. The ban was lifted after TikTok provided assurances that it would enhance measures to control indecent or immoral content on the platform, The Express Tribune reported. (ANI)

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un

North Korea To Launch 3 More Military Spy Satellites Next Year

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is planning to launch three additional spy satellites next year, Yonhap news agency reported, citing Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The announcement comes after the successful launch of the country’s first military reconnaissance satellite last month.

North Korean leader set forth the goal as he wrapped up five days of the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea on Saturday, as reported by KCNA.

“Based on the experience of successfully launching and operating the first spy satellite in 2023 in the space development sector, the task of launching three more spy satellites in 2024 was unveiled and all-out measures to spur the development of space science technology were discussed,” the report said.

Recently, North Korea successfully put a military spy satellite, Malligyong-1, into orbit on November 21 after two failed attempts in May and August.

However, there are suspicions that North Korea might have received technical support from Russia in return for its arms supplies for use in Moscow’s war in Ukraine, reported Yonhap news agency.

“We need to swiftly respond to a possible nuclear crisis and mobilize all physical means, including nuclear force, in a bid to accelerate preparations for the great event of putting the entire territory of South Korea under our control,” Kim said.

He further boosted the country’s nuclear arsenal as the top policy priority for next year and ordered the Navy to enhance its military capabilities, Yonhap news agency reported citing KCNA.

Kim called for developing powerful unmanned armed aerial vehicles and means for electronic warfare in a bid to accomplish its key defence projects.

Highlighting the inter-Korean ties, Kim stated that he will no longer consider South Korea a counterpart for reconciliation and unification, adding that Seoul has declared the North as a main enemy.

The Workers’ Party has also concluded that unification with South Korea is not possible, Kim was quoted as saying, Yonhap news agency reported.

Calling for a “fundamental change” in dealing with South Korea, the North’s leader said that inter-Korean relations have become those of “two hostile countries” or “countries engaged in the state of combat.”

Reportedly, relations between South and North Korea remained sharply strained this year as the latter focused on advancing its nuclear and missile programs, including the launch of solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles.

North Korea’s leader vowed an “offensive and ultra-powerful” stance against the US in 2024, denouncing Washington’s deployment of strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula and its military drills with Seoul.

“If the US and the South pursue military confrontations with us, we will not hesitate to take critical action against them with our nuclear deterrence,” Kim said.

Earlier in September, North Korea amended the constitution to enshrine the policy of strengthening its nuclear force, according to Yonhap news agency.

Moreover last year, the country enacted a new nuclear law authorizing the preemptive use of nuclear arms, calling its status as a nuclear state “irreversible.”

At last year’s party plenary meeting, Kim called South Korea an ‘undoubted enemy’ and called for an ‘exponential’ increase in the country’s nuclear arsenal and the development of tactical nuclear weapons. (ANI)

Delhi Air Quality Dips To Severe Cold

As the cold wave tightened its grip on northern India, the air quality dipped to the ‘severe’ category on the last day of the year, according to the Central Pollution Control Board data on Sunday.

The Air Quality Index was recorded above 400 at several places in Delhi including Munirka, Dwarka and RK Puram.

The AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded at 425, in Dwarka-Sector 8 it was 425, in RK Puram it stood at 426 and in Munirka, the AQI was recorded at 431.

Earlier this month, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) issued orders to impose a ban on non-essential construction work and the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi-NCR due to the deteriorating air quality in the region.

However, certain exemptions have been granted for construction work related to national security or defence, projects of national importance, healthcare, railways, metro rail, airports, interstate bus terminals, highways, roads, flyovers, overbridges, power transmission, pipelines, sanitation, and water supply.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, the city’s primary weather station, was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning.

Drone visuals from Delhi’s ITO, Subroto Park, and India Gate areas showed dense fog enveloping the city reducing visibility.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast dense to very dense fog at most places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, at many places over Uttar Pradesh, at a few places over Uttarakhand, at isolated places over the northern parts of Rajasthan and dense fog at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir and the lower division of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

IMD has said that the mercury would plunge further in the first week of January 2024, with temperature hovering between 10 and 7 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung Observatory in the national capital. (ANI)

Cleanliness Campaign Should Be Conducted At Every Temple From Makar Sankranti: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that a cleanliness campaign should be conducted one week before the consecration of Ram Mandir on January 22 at all the pilgrimage sites across the country.

PM Modi inaugurated various development projects in Ayodhya on Saturday, where he urged people to avoid reaching Ram Mandir on January 22 so that the people involved in arrangements here do not get troubled.

“The people have to make a resolution to make Ayodhya city the cleanest city in India. This clean Ayodhya is the responsibility of the people here. For this, we have to take every step together. Today I would like to say to all the pilgrimage sites and temples of the country that one week before the construction of the Ram Mandir, a big campaign of cleanliness should be conducted at the pilgrimage places of the entire country from January 14 i.e., from the day of Makar Sakranti,” PM Modi said in Ayodhya.
