Anushka Heaps Praises On Harmanpreet

Anushka Exudes Pride, Delight As Virat Scores 49th ODI Century

Who doesn’t like birthday fairytales? Virat Kohli had his on his birthday on Sunday as he equalled Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries.

Carrying the team on his shoulders as he has, so often, done for the better part of his career, Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 101 runs against South Africa in a battle of numbers one and two on the World Cup points table.

Kohli and his childhood idol Tendulkar are now tied at 49 ODI tons.

The feat becomes all the more memorable as it was at this venue (Eden Gardens, Kolkata) where Kohli had scored his first ODI century as well.

While fans across the country erupted in celebrations as Virat brought up his much-awaited career milestone, his wife, actor Anushka Sharam took to Instagram to give a huge shoutout to the star batter.

“Apne birthday pe khud ko present,” Anushka wrote, adding a picture of Kohli from the match.

In the image, Kohli is seen raising his bat and thanking the heavens after bringing up a scintillating century.

Kohli’s sister Bhawna also showered love on him with a heartfelt social media post.

“When you are born to be greatest and best what can I say this one is incredible Virat[?][?][?]Your birthday made so special with this century Carry on God Bless You ,Happiest Birthday ,” she wrote on Instagram.

Kohli started off the innings in his characteristic free-flowing manner, going for his shots and taking on the loose balls from South Africa pacers. However, he slowed down the tempo after the South Africa spinners came on.

Kohli has already scored a ton in this Cricket World Cup. This came against Bangladesh in Pune when he scored an unbeaten 103 off 97 balls which took India to a seven-wicket win and won him the Player of the Match award.

He came very close to another one in Dharamsala against New Zealand, but fell five runs short then. Then he scored a brilliant 88 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, but fell before he could clear the line.

It didn’t take long for him, though, to equal the landmark, achieving the feat on Sunday at the Eden Gardens.

The list of top century-makers in ODI cricket has three Indians at the top with Rohit Sharma (31) coming behind Tendulkar and Kohli. Nine players have recorded more than 25 hundreds in the format in men’s cricket. (ANI)

Earthquake Nepal

India Sends Emergency Relief To Earthquake-Hit Nepal

India on Sunday sent an emergency aid package, comprising medical equipment, relief materials and more, for people affected by the magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Nepal.

The strong temblor, which even jolted the national capital and parts of north India, left 157 dead and scores injured.

Serving as the first responder, India shipped essential medicines and relief materials to assist the earthquake-affected communities.

This rapid response aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Neighbourhood First Policy,” External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, emphasising India’s commitment to supporting its neighbouring nations in times of crisis.

“Providing emergency relief assistance to earthquake-affected areas of Nepal. As a first responder, India delivers medicines and relief material. PM Narendra Modi’s Neighbourhood First policy in action,” EAM Jaishankar posted from his official handle on X.

The first consignment of Rs 10 crore worth of emergency relief materials arrived at Nepalgunj, Nepal, on Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Nepal informed through an official release.

A special Indian Air Force C-130 flight transported the consignment of over 11 tonnes of emergency relief materials, including tents and tarpaulin sheets, blankets, and sleeping bags, as well as essential medicines and medical equipment such as portable ventilators, for the affected people, it said.

The relief materials were handed over by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, on behalf of the Indian government to Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Purna Bahadur Khadka, in the presence of Chief Minister of Karnali, Raj Kumar Sharma.

Further consignments of relief materials from India are expected to arrive in the erstwhile Himalayan kingdom in the coming days.

As a close friend and neighbour, India remains committed to extending all possible support to those affected by the earthquake in Nepal, the MEA added.

The emergency aid package to Nepal reaffirmed India’s commitment to be the first responder in crisis situations in its neighbourhood and beyond. Following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, New Delhi was the first responder as it carried out its largest disaster relief operation abroad — ‘Operation Maitri’.

India had also extended USD 1 billion to Nepal as part of its long-term assistance for post-earthquake reconstruction in the housing, education, health, and cultural heritage sectors, which included the reconstruction of 50,000 houses in Nepal’s Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, the MEA release said.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the Armed Police Force and UNICEF, dispatched critical relief supplies to Jajarkot and Rukum West in Nepal. The relief materials include 6,263 tarps, 1,250 tents, 300 blankets, and 2,050 sleeping bags, all aimed at providing essential shelter and comfort to the affected families.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, along with a team of ministers and lawmakers, took the lead in delivering these relief supplies to the affected areas. The team comprises Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, Energy Minister Shakti Basnet, and MP Janardan Sharma, among others.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also emphasised the importance of relief and rescue efforts in the affected regions. He noted that while relief and rescue operations have been conducted in a certain manner thus far, further intensified efforts are in the pipeline. In a significant decision, the Cabinet has decided to adopt a new approach, including the construction of earthquake relief homes, for resettlement in the affected areas. This approach will prioritise the pre-positioning of disaster relief materials in all districts, according to the Nepal PMO.

Even as the search and rescue operation for the Nepal earthquake ends, the focus has shifted to mobilising aid to those affected by the disaster. Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha highlighted the importance of extending assistance to those affected by the earthquake.

“The search and rescue operation for the Nepal earthquake is over,” Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha told ANI.

This earthquake not only impacted Nepal but also sent tremors across several districts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the lives lost and the extensive damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. He reaffirmed India’s willingness to extend all possible assistance to Nepal in the aftermath of this natural disaster.

The Director of the National Center for Seismology (NCS), OP Mishra, underlined on Saturday how the building structures contributed to exacerbating the damage from the earthquake.

He emphasised that while the intensity in Nepal was significant, the magnitude of 6.4 was a measure of its energy content, and it is the structures that determine the extent of damage and loss during such events. (ANI)

GRAP IV NCR Delhi

As Air Pollution Turns Severe, GRAP Stage 4 Implemented In Delhi-NCR

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday decided to invoke Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect to prevent further deterioration of air quality.

The Air Quality Commission said that Stage IV will be implemented in addition to the restrictions placed under Stage I to III.

“Keeping in view the prevailing trend of air quality and in an effort to prevent further deterioration of air quality in the region, the Sub-Committee today has taken the call to invoke all actions as envisaged under Stage-IV of GRAP ‘Severe+’ Air Quality (Delhi’s AQI > 450), with immediate effect in the entire NCR. This is in addition to the preventive and restrictive actions mentioned under Stage 1, Stage II, and Stage III of GRAP,” an official notification issued by CAQM read.

According to the 8-point action plan, there will be a ban on entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except for trucks carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services and all LNG/ CNG/ electric trucks). Also, a ban will be imposed on the plying of Delhi-registered diesel-operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in Delhi, except those carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services.

GRAP Stage-IV restrictions also include NCR State Govts and GNCTD may take a decision on discontinuing physical classes even for classes VI-IX, and class XI and conduct lessons in an online mode.

“NCR State Governments / GNCTD to take a decision on allowing public, municipal and private offices to work on 50 per cent strength and the rest to work from home. State Governments may consider additional emergency measures like the closure of colleges/ educational institutions non-emergency and closure commercial of activities, permitting running of vehicles on odd-even basis of registration numbers etc,” the 8-point action plan read.

In this regard, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has called a meeting of all concerned departments on Monday in view of the increasing pollution and to strictly implement GRAP-4.

Meanwhile, on the fourth consecutive day, the air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘Severe’ category on Sunday though with a marginal dip in the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 410 against 504 on Saturday, as per System of Air Quality Forecasting and Research (SAFAR-India).

As the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several parts of Delhi-NCR is reeling under the ‘severe’ category, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday sought responses from the Chief Secretaries of the affected states and directed to take immediate remedial action and submit the action taken report before the Tribunal.

NGT in a statement said that immediate action is required for the prevention and control of air pollution in these cities so as to ensure better air quality to the residents. (ANI)

terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

Sikh Separatist Pannun Threatens To Blow Up Air India Flight On Nov 19

Designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has released a new video asking Sikhs not to fly in Air India aircraft after November 19, as their lives can be under threat.

He claimed that Air India would not be allowed to operate on November 19.

“We are asking the Sikh people not to fly via Air India. From November 19, there will be a global blockade. Air India won’t be allowed to operate. Sikh people, don’t travel by Air India after November 19. Your life can be in danger,” Pannun said in the video that is circulating on social media.

Pannun claimed that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport would remain shut on November 19 and that its name would be changed. He highlighted that this is the same day on which the final match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup will take place.

“It is the same day in November on which the final match of the World Terror Cup will be played,” he said.

“The name of this airport will be Shahid Beant Singh, Shahid Satwant Singh Khalistan airport, when Punjab will be liberated,” he added.

This is not the first time that SFJ chief Pannun has issued a threat. In September, he urged Hindu-Canadians to leave Canada amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, in a video that circulated on social media, said pro-Khalistan Sikhs have consistently shown loyalty to Canada. He then went on to threaten Indo-Canadian Hindus, urging them to leave the country.

Following the spread of a hateful speech by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Hindu Forum Canada’s Lawyers asked the Canadian Immigration Minister to ban Pannun’s entry into Canadian territory.

Hindu Forum Canada’s Lawyer wrote to the Minister of Immigration of Canada, Mark Miller, stating that Pannun’s recent comments have caused distress and trauma not only within the Hindu community but also among Canadian citizens at large.

Hindu Forum Canada is a not-for-profit humanitarian organization based in Ontario that advocates for policies that enhance the wellbeing of minority groups in Canada.

Earlier in September, Khalistani secessionists held a so-called ‘Referendum’ in Surrey, British Columbia. Designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), was present at the gathering of the Khalistani separatists held at the Guru Nanak Singh Gurudwara in Surrey, Vancouver.

In a provocative speech, Pannun used intimidating language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other leaders. He claimed that the separatists were challenging the territorial integrity of India.

Notably, the ties between India and Canada have been strained after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged the involvement of “agents of the Indian government” in the killing of Nijjar in June.

India had rejected the allegations as “absurd and motivated” and expelled a Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move over Canada’s decision. Canada has yet to provide any public evidence to support the claim about the killing of Nijjar. (ANI)

Punjab

Reached To Stop Farm Fires, Govt Official Made To Burn Stubble: Punjab

A group of farmers in Punjab’s Bathinda district courted controversy after they allegedly forced a government official, who was part of a team to prevent farm fires, to burn the stubble lying in a field on Friday.

The incident came to light after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann posted a purported video of the entire incident on his X handle.

Condemning the incident, Mann said that an FIR has started being registered in the matter.

Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Singh Khurana said that the incident took place under the Nahian Wala police station limits in Mehma Sarja village.

“(A team of officials) had gone to Mehma Sarja village to convince the farmers not to burn the stubble. During this, the farmers there called their union and forced our civil administration’s officer, Harpreet Singh, to burn that stubble (lying on the field),” the police officer said.

SSP Khurana said that an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged in the matter.

“We have registered an FIR in this matter. A total of 7 persons have been named in the FIR and action is being taken against other persons. The farm was owned by Ram Singh. Besides, the other members of the union present at the spot are being identified and raids are being conducted in the matter,” he added.

Stubble burning is widely prevalent in parts of the agricultural states of Punjab and Haryana.

It is a process of setting on fire the straw stubble left after the harvesting of grains like paddy, wheat, etc. The process of burning farm residue is one of the major causes of air pollution in parts of north India, deteriorating the air quality around this time of the year. Combined with vehicular emissions, it adversely affects the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital. (ANI)
