Air Quality In Delhi Remains Severe For 3rd Day On Trot

The overall air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category for the third straight day on Saturday morning, as per the SAFAR-India.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR)-India, the overall air quality in the national capital Delhi (Overall) is in the ‘severe’ category with Air Quality Index (AQI) of 504.

The latest ANI drone camera footage from the ITO area showed a layer of haze covering the city.

In the Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3) the AQI was recorded 571.

Delhi’s Dhirpur on Saturday recorded an AQI of 542.

The increasing pollution in the city has escalated concern among the residents, who claimed that they are having difficulty breathing. “Since 3-4 days, pollution is very high. Delhi govt must take some initiative…now the situation is such that we have to wear masks…we are having difficulty in breathing,” said Krishan Kant, a resident of Delhi.

Meanwhile, similar situation was recorded in Nodia as AQI plunged to the ‘severe’ category recording 576. In Noida Sector-116 AQI stands at 426 and in Noida Sector 62 at 428 as per the Central Pollution Control Board.

Speaking to ANI, Abhay Kumar a Noida resident said, “Pollution level has increased. It feels like getting choked…The air feels heavy.”

Gurugram recorded an AQI of 512 keeping the air quality under the ‘severe’ category.

Delhi had the highest PM (Particulate Matter) 2.5 levels in the country in the month of October and has been experiencing a consistent upward trend since 2021, according to the Respirer Report.

As the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several parts of Delhi-NCR is reeling under the ‘severe’ category, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday sought responses from the Chief Secretaries of the affected states and directed to take immediate remedial action and submit the action taken report before the Tribunal.

NGT in a statement said that immediate action is required for the prevention and control of air pollution in these cities so as to ensure better air quality to the residents.

“In view of the NGT seeks response of Chief Secretaries of the States where the cities AQI has dipped to severe, very poor and poor, are directed to take immediate remedial action and submit action taken report before the Tribunal,” added the statement. (ANI)

Pakistan Air Force Foils Terror Attack At Mianwali Air Base

Pakistan’s Army had said that it has foiled a terror attack at the Mianwali Training Air Base in the Punjab province.

The ISPR says that 3 terrorists were neutralised while entering the base while the remaining 3 terrorists have been cornered due to timely and effective response by the troops. However, during the attack, some damage to three already grounded aircraft and a fuel bowser also occurred.

According to a press release from the Pakistan’s ISPR, on November 4 in the early hours of the day, Mianwali Training Air Base of Pakistan Air Force came under a failed terrorist attack which has been foiled by the swift and effective response of the troops.

The action of the troops has ensured the safety and security of personnel and assets says the release.

The ISPR said a comprehensive joint clearance and combing operation is in final stages to completely clear the area. ISPR says they remain committed to eliminating menace of terrorism from the country at all costs.

According to Pakistan media reports, a spokesperson of the Islamist terror group Tehreek-e-Jihad took responsibility for the attack on the Air Force base.

Earlier last week, terrorists launched two separate attacks on security forces in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In the Tirah area of Khyber District, an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) was conducted, resulting in an intense exchange of fire.

As a result, one terrorist was killed, and two terrorists were injured and subsequently apprehended by security forces, the ISPR said in a statement.

These terrorists were found in possession of weapons and ammunition and had been actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces, as well as engaging in the targeted killing of innocent civilians in the area, as reported by ARY News.

Elon Musk

Musk: X Premium Subscribers To Get Early Access To XAI Grok

Elon Musk has announced that his artificial intelligence startup xAI Grok will start providing services to “a select group” of users starting today.

“Tomorrow, xAI will release its first AI to a select group. In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists,” the business tycoon posted on X on Friday (local time).

As soon as xAI is out of the early beta stage, xAI’s Grok system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers, Musk said qualifying those select users.

According to Techcrunch, a US-based online news portal focused on tech and startups, X’s recently launched Premium Plus plan costs USD 16 per month for ad-free access to X.

“Grok has real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models. It’s also based and loves sarcasm. I have no idea who could have guided it this way,” Musk posted on X on Saturday.

The AI system was designed to have a little humour in its responses, Musk said, attaching a query posted on the platform when it refused to answer certain queries of a more sensitive nature — like “Tell me how to make cocaine, step by step.”

According to a Techcrunch report, Musk announced the launch of xAI in July with the ambitious goal of building AI to “understand the true nature of the universe.”

The company, led by Musk and veterans of DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla and the University of Toronto, is advised by Dan Hendrycks, the director at the Center for AI Safety, an AI research nonprofit, and collaborates with X and other companies in Musk’s stead, the report said.

Musk’s AI ambitions have grown since the billionaire’s split with ChatGPT developer OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Ilya Sutskever several years ago, the Techcrunch report claimed. Musk resigned from the OpenAI board in 2018, more recently cutting off the company’s access to Twitter data after arguing that OpenAI wasn’t paying enough for the privilege.

Many nations the world over have been using AI technologies for better service delivery and to reduce human intervention but fears of job cuts remain as the technology evolves. (ANI)

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is a ‘pre-paid CM’ of Congress and that the validity of his talk time has ended.

Delhi AQI

Delhi AQI Better Since Afternoon, Likely To Improve Further: Panel

As the Delhi air turned severe, leading to a temporary closure of schools and scores gasping for breath, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital clocked 468 on Friday, according to the 4 pm AQI bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), for the operationalisation of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan), took due cognisance of the declining air quality in the national capital and the weather forecast made available by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) for the next few days.

The sub-committee noted that the average AQI in the national capital showed a declining trend since the afternoon after the enforcement of the GRAP measures.

At 12 noon, the average AQI of Delhi clocked 475 which improved to 468 at 4 pm and further to 456 at 5 pm on Friday.

The forecast from IITM and IMD also indicated a further improvement in the AQI over the next few days.

The sub-committee noted further that mitigation measures under GRAP Stage-III were implemented on Thursday late evening and it was reasonable that it would take more time for its impact to be felt on the average AQI.

The actions are expected to yield positive results over the next few days, it noted.

After comprehensively reviewing the overall air quality scenario and relevant aspects, the sub-committee unanimously decided to track the situation for a day or more before invoking more stringent disruptive actions under Stage-IV of GRAP.

The ongoing actions implemented under Stage-I, Stage-II and Stage-III of GRAP shall continue for the present, the sub-committee stated, adding that it was keeping a close watch on the situation for further action.

Along with Delhi, the air quality in cities in the NCR including Bhiwandi, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Hisar, Jind, Noida, Rohtak, and Sonipat were also recorded in the ‘Severe’ category.

Stage III of the GRAP is implemented when the AQI hits severe in the range of 401-450. As part of its response to combat pollution, the government can impose strict restrictions on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in certain areas and may suspend physical classes in schools for primary-grade children up to Class 5.

The Delhi government has suspended classes in primary schools as the air quality in the national capital turned severe. (ANI)

Tel Aviv US Israel

Israel Will Not Stand Alone: Blinken

Reaffirming its support for Tel Aviv amid the ongoing war on Hamas, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday said “as long as the United States stands, Israel will not stand alone.”

Blinken reiterated the commitment during his meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog and the country’s war cabinet.

Addressing a press conference in Tel Aviv on Friday, the US Secretary of State brought up the brutality of the Hamas onslaught on Israel, as he recalled seeing the footage of a father grabbing his two sons to get them out of harm’s way before terrorists gun him down, The Times of Israel reported.

“Where’s daddy,” he quoted one of the boys as saying.

“They killed daddy,” Blinken quoted the boy’s brother as responding.

To this, the boy asked, “Where’s mommy?”, Blinken shared, according to The Times of Israel.

The US State Secretary revealed that further in the footage, the terrorist responsible for killing the boys’ parents is seen casually eating from the fridge.

Blinken said it is “shocking” that the brutality of the slaughter has “receded” in the memory of so many — “but not in Israel and not in the United States”.

He noted that 33 Americans were killed in the October 7 onslaught along with 220 foreign nationals, according to The Times of Israel.

Blinken said in Friday’s meeting with Israeli officials, he coordinated efforts to not only ensure that the October 7 onslaught doesn’t repeat itself but also build a “different future” — “a strategy that creates a better tomorrow for both peoples and the region”.

He said the steps that the US has taken to prevent the war from escalating include counter-strikes on “Iranian proxies” in Syria.

The US State Secretary confirmed that he spoke about Washington’s desire to see humanitarian pauses amid the Gaza fighting.

He added that legitimate questions were raised in his talks with Israeli officials about how to best use that pause to allow in more aid, secure the release of the hostages and prevent Hamas from using the temporary cessation to its advantage.

Blinken said, “We need to be doing more to protect Palestinian civilians.” He reiterated that Israel has a right to defend itself, but “how it does so matters.”

He argued that protecting Palestinians is the “right thing to do” and that failing to do so “plays into the hands of Hamas”.

Blinken said pained as he was to watch how the carnage impacted Israeli children, he felt no different watching Palestinian girls and boys being pulled from the rubble of buildings bombed by Israel, according to The Times of Israel.

“When I see them, when I look into their eyes from the TV screens, I see my own children,” Blinken said, adding, “How can I not?”

The US State Secretary asserted that Hamas doesn’t care about Palestinians and uses them as human shields, placing its infrastructure and fighters in residential buildings, schools mosques hospitals.

Blinken said he discussed with Israel the steps to take amid the ongoing fight with Hamas — “advice only best of friends can offer.”

He said Israeli leaders assured him in meetings on Friday that they would condemn the ongoing wave of settler violence in the West Bank and take actions to curb the phenomenon and hold perpetrators accountable.

“We will be looking closely to ensure that our friends make good on that commitment,” Blinken told reporters in Tel Aviv.

Blinken on Friday landed in Tel Aviv for his third visit since Hamas launched coordinated terror attacks on southern Israel on October 7.

Earlier, on Friday, the US State Secretary called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken are meeting for the third time since the outbreak of the war, at the Kirya in Tel Aviv,” read a post on the official X handle of the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

Blinken and Netanyahu met privately and then held an expanded meeting together with the War Cabinet.

“At the start of the expanded meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu showed @SecBlinken and his delegation clips of the footage prepared by the IDF Spokesperson which depict the horrors and the massacre perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s office added in its post.

Earlier, on Thursday, Blinken met Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

“Thank you @SecBlinken for your, and @POTUS Biden’s, ongoing and steadfast support for the Israeli people. We appreciate greatly your strong words of moral clarity, the United States’s unanimous support for Israel’s right to self-defence, and the immediate and unconditional return of hostages. Each moment that passes without them is a cause of much pain and a further reflection of the atrocities of Hamas,” the Israeli President posted from his official handle on ‘X’. (ANI)

Pakistan NZ

CWC 2023: Pak Sweat It Out For Do-Or-Die Clash Against NZ

Ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming match against New Zealand, the 35th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, the ‘Men in Green’ sweated it out, putting in the hard yards in the nets.

The Pakistan squad put in rigorous practice on both the batting and bowling fronts prior to their crucial game against the Kiwis in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam focused on big hits while pacers Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi hit the nets, bowling at full tilt while trying to fine-tune their lines and lengths ahead of the crucial clash.

In Pakistan’s previous encounter against Bangladesh, the Bengal Tigers elected to bat first.

Decent knocks from Mahmudullah (56 in 70 balls, with six fours and a six), Litton Das (45 in 64 balls, with six fours) and skipper Shakib al Hasan (43 in 64 balls, with four boundaries) took Bangladesh to a modest total of 204 all out in 45.1 overs.

Their 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh and New Zealand’s crushing 190-run defeat to South Africa have raised visions of them progressing to the final four.

Pakistan’s qualification scenario will heavily depend on the result against the Kiwis. To go past the NRR of the Blackcaps, Pakistan need to beat the BlackCaps by 83 runs or chase down a target in 35 overs.

The ‘Men in Green’ will play for a win against the Kiwis to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the semifinals. Both teams will be on eight points if the outcome is in favour of Pakistan but the latter will be slightly ahead of the Kiwis on account of a slightly better NRR.

Ahead of the match, team director Mickey Arthur admitted that Pakistan haven’t played to their potential but will look to clinch victories in the final two must-win games.

“Every game we go into, we want to win. And I’ll be brutally honest, I don’t think we’ve played to our full potential this tournament yet. I thought the Bangladesh game is the first game where we actually put a complete game together. We batted beautifully, bowled beautifully, and fielded beautifully, which in all the other games, we’ve done one or two disciplines OK, but our other disciplines let us down. So, I’d like to say we’re peaking, but the preparation of the guys and the attitude of the guys’ will to get better every day, that has been exceptional. So, I can’t fault anybody in terms of that. But we found our best game against Bangladesh and I just hope that’s not too late for us,” Arthur said in the pre match press conference.

Pakistan’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad: Babar Azam (C), Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim. (ANI)

I am willing to cooperate with UP Police. I request the UP Government and the UP CM Yogi Adityanath that even if there is a 0.1 per cent chance of my involvement in this, then I am willing to take full responsibility. I request the media to not spread any misinformation till then, I have nothing to do with this,” Elvish Yadav said in a video posted on Instagram.
