MEA Summons Canadian Envoy Over Consulate Security Breach

The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday summoned the High Commissioner of Canada after the security breach at the Indian embassy in Ottawa.

“The High Commissioner of Canada was summoned yesterday to convey our strong concern about the actions of separatist and extremist elements against our diplomatic Mission and Consulates in Canada this week,” the MEA said in a statement released on Sunday.

The statement by the MEA said the Government of India sought an explanation on how such elements were allowed, in the presence of police, to breach the security of India’s diplomatic missions and Consulates.

“The Government of Canada was reminded of its obligations under the Vienna Convention and was asked to arrest and prosecute the individuals who have already been identified as being involved in such acts,” the statement read further.

The Canadian government is expected to take strong steps against such anti-India separatist elements, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

“It is expected that the Canadian government will take all steps which are required to ensure the safety of our diplomats and security of our diplomatic premises so that they are able to fulfil their normal diplomatic functions,” the release said.

Khalistan supporters allegedly protested outside the Indian Embassy in Canada last week. They raised pro-Khalistan slogans and allegedly assaulted Indian-origin journalists present at the spot.

The Khalistan supporters have started targeting Indian consulates after the chase on separatist leader Amritpal Singh started in India and hundreds of his aides were arrested in India.

After Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, the High Commission of India in Canada was also targeted by Khalistani supporters this week.

The honorary consulate of India was vandalised with Khalistani flags earlier in February. Recently, Indian consulates in the United Kingdom and the United States were also attacked by pro-Khalistan supporters. (ANI)

The ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ actor took to Instagram and posted meme series featuring herself. Calling it, ‘Meme-at Aman’.
She posted three memes, the second of which showed a snap from ‘The Great Gambler’, in which Big B and Zeenat are seen taking a boat ride. “‘Bhaiya Goregaon Lena Jalsa Hote Huye,” reads the text on the meme.

Along with the post, she wrote a long post which read, “This Saturday I am more of a Meme-at Aman than a Zeenat Aman. I would be befuddled by the vagaries of Instagram if it weren’t for my kids. Fortunately, not only do they explain the app and it’s workings to me, they also introduce me to online humour! Today they showed me ‘Zeenat Aman memes’, and I’ve been in splits all morning. I just think they are so fantastically creative and funny. Not to mention that they’re a great use of images that would otherwise be redundant!.”

She credited the first and third meme to a page on Instagram and wrote, “Here are three that really tickled me. The first and last are reposted from a handle called @bollymeme and the other is from Amit ji’s profile, though I’m not sure who the maker is. There are other hysterical ones I saw, but their language is a little too colourful for me to post.”

Modi Inaugurates Free-Of-Cost Medical College, Hospital In K'taka

Modi Inaugurates Free-Of-Cost Medical College, Hospital In K’taka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) at Chikkaballapur on Saturday.

SMSIMSR will provide medical education and quality medical care – completely free of cost – to all. The institute will start functioning in the academic year 2023.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister noted that Chikballapur is the birthplace of one of the architects of modern India, Sir M M Visvesvaraya and expressed gratitude for getting the opportunity to pay tribute to his samadhi and visit his museum.

“I bow my head before this virtuous land”, the Prime Minister said.

He emphasized that it was the land of Chikballapur that was the source of inspiration for Sir Visvesvaraya to come up with new innovations and develop new engineering projects for the farmers and the general populace.

The Prime Minister called Satya Sai Gram a wonderful model of service. He lauded the mission undertaken by the institution through education and health initiatives.

“Today’s inauguration of the medical college has further strengthened this mission,” he said.

The Prime Minister referred to the nation’s resolution to be a developed nation during the Amrit Kaal and people’s curiosity about accomplishing the task in the given time.

“There is just one answer, a strong, resolute and resourceful answer i.e Sabka Prayas. This is going to be surely realized by the effort of every countryman,” PM Modi said.

He highlighted the role of social and religious institutions in the journey of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ and the great tradition of saints, ashrams and mutts.

These social and religious bodies, along with faith and spiritual aspects, have been empowering the poor, Dalits, backwards and Adivasis.

“Work done by your institute strengthens the spirit of ‘Sabka Prayas’,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi elaborated upon the motto of Sri Satya Sai University ‘Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam’ meaning expertise in the action is yoga.

He pointed out that there were less than 380 medical colleges in the country before 2014 and the number has gone up to more than 650 today.

He also underlined that 40 medical colleges have been developed in aspirational districts of the country that were once lagging behind in terms of development.

In the last nine years, the Prime Minister mentioned that the number of medical seats in the country has doubled.

He noted that the number of doctors produced by the country in the next 10 years will be the same as the number of doctors produced in India since the time of independence.

Noting that Karnataka is also reaping the benefits of the development carried out in the country, the Prime Minister informed that the state is home to roughly 70 medical colleges in the country and the medical college inaugurated in Chikballapur is an example of the efforts of the double engine government.

He informed about the decision taken to develop more than 150 nursing institutions in the country as part of this year’s Budget and said that it will create new opportunities for the youth in the nursing sector.

The Prime Minister mentioned the language challenge in medical education and lamented that insufficient efforts were made in the past to promote local languages in medical education.

“These political parties were not willing to see youth from villages and backward places find a place in the medical and engineering professions. Our government works for the welfare of the poor. It has given an option of medical education in all Indian languages including Kannada,” he said.

The Prime Minister lamented the practice in politics of considering the poor “only as vote banks”.

“Our government has considered serving the poor as its highest duty. We have given priority to the health of the poor and middle class”, PM Modi said.

He gave the example of Jan Aushadhi Kendras or low-price medicine and informed that there are about 10,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country today, out of which more than 1000 are located in Karnataka.

“Such an initiative has allowed the poor to save thousands of crores of rupees on medicines,” PM Modi added.

The Prime Minister also threw light on the past when the poor could not afford the hospitals for treatment.

He emphasized that the present government took notice of the concern of the poor and resolved it with the Ayushman Bharat Yojana which has opened the doors of hospitals for poor families.

He said lakhs of people in Karnataka have also benefited from this scheme. “The Government has guaranteed free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to the poor.”

PM Modi gave examples of expensive surgery procedures such as heart surgery, knee replacement, and dialysis and pointed out that the government has taken all necessary steps to reduce the expensive fees.

“We are giving top priority to mothers and sisters in health-related policies”, the Prime Minister remarked.

Noting that the health of the whole generation improves when the health and nutrition of mothers improve, the Prime Minister said the government is giving special emphasis towards this and gave the example of schemes to build toilets, provide free gas connections, tap water to every household, free sanitary pads and send money directly to the bank for nutritious food.

He underlined the special attention given by the government towards breast cancer and informed that health and wellness centres are being opened in the villages and efforts are being made to screen such diseases at early stage itself.

PM Modi congratulated CM Bommai and his team for setting up more than 9,000 health and wellness centres in the state.

He also praised the Karnataka government for strengthening and empowering ANM and ASHA workers.

He informed that 50 ,000 ANM and ASHA workers and about 1 lakh registered nurses and health workers of Karnataka received modern gadgets and the double-engine government is trying to provide them with all possible facilities.

“Along with health, the double-engine government is paying full attention to the economic empowerment of women,” he said.

Describing Karnataka as a land of milk and silk, the Prime Minister informed about the Kisan Credit Card for cattle rearing farmers, a massive vaccination drive for cattle with an expense of Rs 12,000 crore.

“It is also the effort of the double-engine government to increase the participation of women in dairy co-operatives. Self-help groups of women in the villages are also being empowered,” PM Modi said.

“When the country is healthy and ‘Sabka Prayas’ is devoted to the development, then we will achieve the goal of a developed India faster,” he added.

The Prime Minister also recalled his long association with Bhagwan Sai Baba and the Sansthan.

“I am not a guest here, I am part of this place and land. Every time I come amidst you the bond gets renewed and the desire for stronger ties emerges in the heart.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai, Chairman of Sri Satya Sai Sanjeevani Center for Child Heart Care, Dr C Srinivas, and Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai were among those present. (ANI)

Modi’s Security Breached As Man Tries To Run Towards Convoy: K’taka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security was breached on Saturday during his roadshow in Karnataka when a man tried to run towards his convoy, informed Karnataka police.

The man, hailing from Koppal, was detained, police informed further.
No further details were available at the time of filing this report.

In August last year, the Supreme Court, with regard to an earlier security breach during PM Modi’s visit to Punjab on January 5, 2022, said the five-member committee it appointed to look into the matter had concluded that the Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duty though sufficient forces were available.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli said, while reading out the committee’s report, that the committee headed by a former top court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, said there should be an oversight committee for periodic revision of the ‘Blue Book’.

“The Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duty to maintain law and order. He failed to do this even though sufficient force was available and even though he was informed two hours in advance that Prime Minister will enter that route,” it said.

The Prime Minister was stuck atop a flyover for 15-20 minutes while on his way to Ferozpur, Punjab in January 2022 due to the road being blocked by some protesters. T

he Ministry of Home Affairs termed it as a “major lapse” in PM Modi’s security. (ANI)

I Don’t Consider Myself Citizen Of India: Amritpal Singh

Anonymous Caller Threatened To Raise Khalistani flag At Pragati Maidan

A air passenger received a pre-recorded call from an alleged Khalistan supporter, threatening to take down the national flag at Pragati Maidan in the national capital and replacing it with the Khalistani flag, Delhi Police informed on Saturday.

In his complaint, the passenger said the anonymous caller talked about fugitive Khalistan leader and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh.
“A flight passenger lodged a complaint claiming that he received a call from an anonymous Khalistan supporter, who talked about Amritpal Singh. The caller threatened to take down the national flag at Pragati Maidan and replace it with a Khalistani flag. The caller also made offensive references about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and (Union) Home Minister Amit Shah,” an officer said.

Police said a case was registered at IGI Airport police station on March 23, Thursday, under sections 153, 153A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

The sleuths informed that Pragati Maidan is scheduled to play host to a big-ticket G20 meeting in September, the preparations for which are currently underway in full swing.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police are looking into the matter, the officer informed.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police on Saturday appealed to people not to believe in rumours and fake news of the arrest of radical preacher and pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh, which is being circulated on social media.

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Bathinda SSP Gulneet Khurana said, “We urge people not to believe the fake reports of the arrest of Amritpal Singh that are being widely circulated on social media.”

He blamed the fake reports on “rumour mongers” based in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

“A few people sitting in the UK, US, and Canada are spreading false news on social media that Amritpal is being tortured (in custody),” the SSP added.

He added, “BSF companies along with police personnel and 140 security personnel from Bahadurgarh are currently deployed in Bathinda to ensure peace.”

An alert was sounded in Uttarakhand over the possibility of the absconding pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh entering the state, informed Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V Murugesan on Saturday morning.

Murugesan added that he had received inputs from the Punjab Police that the pro-Khalistan leader, who fled Punjab in the wake of the crackdown on Waris Punjab De, may enter Uttarakhand from Haryana.

He told ANI that checks and searches are underway and a security alert has gone out in places through which he can enter the state.

The officer added that the district police have also been alerted and vigilance stepped up at the borders.

On Friday, an alert was issued in the Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, amid reports of Amritpal trying to enter the state.

A team of Delhi Police and Punjab Police on Friday launched a search operation for Amritpal in Delhi and its border in view of the possibility of him entering the national capital.

However, Delhi Police later said Waris Punjab De chief may have left the national capital.

On March 18, Punjab Police launched an operation against Amritpal and his aides. The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters clashed with uniformed personnel at the Ajnala police station on February 23, on the outskirts of Amritsar, demanding the release of one of his close aides, Lovepreet Toofan. Nitu, Saweety Strike Historic Gold At IBA Women's World Boxing C'ships

Nitu, Saweety Strike Historic Gold At IBA Women’s World Boxing C’ships

Scripting history, exuberant Indian pugilists Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora were crowned as World Champions for the first time after registering contrasting victories in the finals of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here on Saturday.

While the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nitu (48kg) defeated Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia with a 5-0 scoreline to clinch her first World Championships medal, three-time Asian medallist Saweety (81kg) had to grind hard to secure a 4-3 win on points after the bout was reviewed against Wang Lina of China to clinch her second Worlds medal.
Maintaining her red-hot form, Nitu (48kg) utilized her attacking supremacy from close range and smart movement to make light work of the two-time Asian bronze medallist Lutsaikhan. The 22-year-old pugilist from Bhiwani started off the bout energetically by landing a quick flurry of punches on the Mongolian and showcased a brilliant combination of relentless attack and resolute defence to seal the win by unanimous decision.

“I am very happy after winning the gold medal. I fell short in my quest for the gold last year so we worked on the mistakes and won it this time round in front of the home support. Having discussed with my coaches yesterday I had decided to be aggressive since the first round today to get the scores in my favour. I have been working hard for many years and this medal means a lot to me,” said Nitu after her bout.

Competing in her second World Championships final, Saweety faced a tough challenge against the 2018 World Champion Wang Lina. However, the Indian made use of her high technical ability and strength throughout the bout to impressively overpower her opponent in the closely contested bout.

“I am thrilled after fulfilling my dream of becoming the World Champion. The bout went well and I was able execute our planning perfectly. My performances in the tournament got better as the bouts progressed with my body also responding well. I want to thank the fans for their constant love and support,” said Saweety after the bout.

Both pugilists were awarded with INR 82.7 lakhs ($100,000) each in prize money for being crowned as the World Champions.

In the 57kg category, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Irma Testa of Italy also clinched her first World Championships gold as she outpunched Karina Ibragimova of Kazakhstan with a 5-0 win. The Italian, who had to settle for silver at the tournament’s previous edition after a hard-fought 1-4 defeat against Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei, gave it her all to avoid a repeat of that result this time round and secured a memorable victory.

Following Nitu and Saweety’s historic triumphs, India’s quest for two more gold medals will continue on Sunday when the reigning World Champion Nikhat Zareen and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain take to the ring for their respective finals bout.

Nikhat (50kg) will take on the two-time Asian champion Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in a bid for back-to-back World Championships gold medals while Lovlina (75kg) will square off against the two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Caitlin Parker of Australia.

The ongoing prestigious event is witnessing the participation of 324 boxers, including several Olympic medallists, from 65 countries fighting for titles in the 12 weight categories. The tournament has a massive prize pool of INR 20 crore. (ANI)
