MHA Bans On Both Factions Of Muslim Conference J&K

Centre Extends Ban On Jamaat-e-Islami For Next 5 Yrs

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday extended ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, for next five years with immediate effect declaring it as an ‘unlawful association’ under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967.

The MHA made the declaration through a gazette notification announcing the extension of ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.

The move comes as the MHA found that the organisation is found continuing in its activities against the security, integrity and sovereignty of the nation. The outfit was first declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ on February 28, 2019.

Exercising the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the MHA had declared the Jamaat-e-Islami as an unlawful association on February 28, 2019.

“The Central Government, having regard to the above circumstances, is of firm opinion that it is necessary to declare the Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) as an ‘unlawful association’ with immediate effect, and accordingly, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-section (3) of section 3 of the said Act, the Central Government hereby directs that this notification shall, subject to any order that may be made under section 4 of the said Act, have effect for a period of five years from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette,” the fresh notification mentions.

Soon after the announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to his ‘X’ handle, formerly Twitter, announcing that the extension of ban against Jamaat-e-Islami is part of zero tolerance policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre.

“Pursuing PM @narendramodi Ji’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and separatism, the government has extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir for five years. The organisation is found continuing its activities against the security, integrity and sovereignty of the nation. The outfit was first declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ on 28 February 2019,” Shah posted on ‘X’.

“Anyone threatening the security of the nation will face ruthless measures,” Shah further said.

As per the MHA, the Jamaat-e-Islami is in close touch with terror outfits and is continuously supporting extremism and militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. It is supporting claims for secession of a part of the Indian territory from the Union and supporting terrorist and separatist groups fighting for this purpose by indulging in activities and articulations intended to disrupt the territorial integrity of India.

“JeI is involved in anti-national and subversive activities in the country intended to cause disaffection; And, whereas, the Central Government is of the opinion that if the unlawful activities of the JeI are not curbed and controlled immediately, it will take the opportunity to -escalate its subversive activities including attempt to carve out an Islamic State out of the territory of Union of India by destabilising the Government established by law; continue advocating the secession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India while disputing the accession of the State with the Union; propagate anti-national and separatist sentiments prejudicial to the integrity and security of the country; and escalate secessionist movements, support militancy and incite violence in the country,” added the notification. Rajya Sabha polls UP

RS Polls : BJP Wins 8, SP Bags 2 Seats In UP

As the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh won eight seats in Rajya Sabha polls while the Samajwadi Party managed to secure victories on two seats, State BJP MLC Mohsin Raza said that “Ye 8 nahi, 80 ki tayyari hai”.

The eight BJP candidates who secured victories are former Union Minister RPN Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, Amarpal Maurya, Sangeeta Balwant , BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, former MLA Sadhna Singh, Naveen Jain and Sanjay Seth.

Jaya Bachchan and Ramji Lal Suman of Samajwadi Party also registered victories. Alok Ranjan, the third candidate fielded by the Samajwadi Party, suffered defeat in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Hailing the outcome of the Rajya Sabha polls, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the impact of these results will continue to produce a positive impact on the party prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and also in the next State Assembly elections.

“We had been saying from the beginning that all 8 candidates of the BJP will win. All our 8 candidates have won today. I congratulate all the winning candidates. Two SP candidates have also won. So, congratulations to Akhilesh Yadav too. BJP’s vijay yatra that began in Rajya Sabha will continue in Lok Sabha and then go on till Vidhan Sabha elections and even further,” Deputy Chief Minister told ANI.

BJP leaders and workers raised slogans and celebrated in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh BJP MLC Mohsin Raza said that this is not just a victory on 8 seats but an indication of the party’s preparations for the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the Uttar Pradesh.

“We knew that this would be the result. BJP was confident that we would win all 8 seats. I don’t understand why the Opposition was dejected because they did not have to win. Ye 8 nahi, 80 ki tayyari hai (Not eight, but our preparations on 80 seats). We are going to win 80 after this. We will win 400 in the Lok Sabha elections,” Mohsin Raza told ANI.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also felicitated all its eight BJP candidates who won the Rajya Sabha elections.

Responding to the allegations by Samajwadi Party leaders that “BJP is influencing other party leaders to cross-vote”, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday said that Bharatiya Janata Party does not influence any leader to leave their party adding that if anyone is involved in cross-voting then there might be a change of heart.

The remarks came after five Samajwadi Party MLAs met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after casting their vote for the Rajya Sabha election, there was speculation of them having cross-voted in favour of the BJP.

Speaking to ANI, Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “BJP does not influence anybody to change their party. If there is a change of heart, voting is done accordingly. I welcome that as well. BJP had the numbers already. People have voted in favour of BJP candidates for ‘Viksit Bharat'”

Samajwadi Party MLAs: Abhay Singh, Rakesh Singh, Rakesh Pandey, Vinod Chaturvedi, and Manoj Pandey met CM Yogi Adityanath in the Assembly Secretariat today.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav said that disciplinary action would be taken against the MLAs if they had cross voted.

“Not everybody has the guts to stand against the government. Pressure is put on everybody, is there anyone who doesn’t know that BJP would go to any extent to win. BJP was dishonest during the Chandigarh elections also… When it comes to UP, BJP did everything to get votes and those who left, might not have had the guts to stand against the govt. Action will be taken because our party leaders want such people to be kept away from the party,” said Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The term for Rajya Sabha MPs is six years, and elections are held after every two years for 33 per cent of the seats. Currently, the Rajya Sabha has a strength of 245 members.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the country, the outcome of the polls to the Rajya Sabha is likely to have an impact in the politically crucial state. (ANI)

Trinamool Congress (TMC)

Left Wanted Cong Prince To Be Ousted From Wayanad: Modi

Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the “crown prince,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Tuesday that the Left front wanted the “yuvraj” (prince) to be ousted from Wayanad in Kerala.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday announced candidates for four Kerala Lok Sabha seats, nominating senior party leader Annie Raja to contest from the Wayanad constituency, a seat presently held by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

“The Left wants the crown prince of Congress to be ousted from Wayanad. These people are advising the crown prince to stay out of Kerala,” PM Modi attacked Rahul Gandhi.

PM Modi said that the two alliances are “each other’s enemies” in the state but “outside Kerala, they are Best Friends Forever”.

“They (Congress and Communist parties) are each other’s enemy in Kerala, however, outside the state they are BFF that means Best Friend Forever. They have a different language in Thiruvananthapuram and a separate one in Delhi, people of Kerala would respond to this fraud in the upcoming elections,” PM Modi said, addressing a rally in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

He further continued his attack against the alliance and said that Congress and its other communist alliances have only one priority i.e. to focus on their family rule.

“They only let their family rule the country. For them, the welfare of their family is superior to the welfare of Indians,” he said.

He further said that the BJP third term will work on the development of educational institutions in Kerala.

“Everyone knows about the struggle faced by the students of the poor and the middle-class in Kerala while pursuing higher education. Our third term will work on the development of educational institutions in Kerala. This will pave the way for opportunities for students hailing from poor and middle-class families,” he added.

PM Modi further said that the opposition has accepted its defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“It (Opposition) does not have a road map for the development of the country, hence it has made only one agenda, to abuse Modi. I know that Kerala will never stand with those having such negative thoughts, Kerala will bless the BJP and NDA for nation-building. People are walking shoulder to shoulder with BJP on the streets, which in itself is a big message,” he added.

The Prime Minister further asserted that in his third term, India is set to become the world’s third-largest economy.

“Everyone is talking about the third term of the Modi government. In our third term, India is set to become the world’s third-largest economy. This is ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’. In our third term, our fight against corruption is going to be more defined,” he added.

Rajya Sabha MP and CPI (M) Secretary Binoy Viswam questioned the political logic of Rahul Gandhi contesting from Kerala.

“North India is considered the hotbed of India, from where the maximum number of MPs have come to the Parliament, where the BJP is a powerful force to fight. Forgetting that reality, what is the political logic for the Congress to come to southmost India, to Kerala, where there are just 20 seats? It is known to everybody that no one from the BJP will be able to win from Kerala. From where should he fight exactly? The essence of the earlier battle of 2019 is there when Rahul Gandhi did the same thing when he came to Wayanad from Amethi. BJP started a campaign, which got the cash. They said Rahul Gandhi was afraid of the BJP that’s why he ran to Kerala. This campaign resulted in the defeat of Congress in the entire North India,” Binoy Viswam said.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) is part of the INDIA bloc, which came into existence to take on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and prevent it from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the Lok Sabha elections. Kerala has a total of 20 Lok Sabha seats. (ANI)

JD-S leader Kupendra Reddy

We Did Not Ask For Votes From Anybody: NDA’s Kupendra Reddy

As shadow of cross voting looms over Rajya Sabha polls in Karnataka, JD-S leader Kupendra Reddy, fielded as the fifth candidate by the NDA on Tuesday refuted the claims of the Congress of threatening its MLAs to cast votes in his favour, saying that his parties in NDA have not sought any favour from anyone.

“Most probably cross voting will happen…If we threatened someone or asked for votes, they (Congress) should have complained to the Election Commission. We did not ask for votes from anybody…” Reddy said.

The Rajya Sabha election in Karnataka heated up after the BJP-JD(S) combine fielded Kupendra Reddy, even though the alliance had the strength to win only one out of the four seats.

Five candidates — Ajay Maken, Syed Naseer Hussain and G C Chandrasekhar (all Congress), Narayansa Bandage (BJP) and Kupendra Reddy (JD(S)) — are in the fray.

JD(S) and BJP are exploring options of getting the ruling Congress MLAs to cross vote as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee, D Kupendra Reddy, is falling short of four votes.

Earlier, the Congress has complained that MLAs are being blackmailed to vote for Kupendra Reddy. A Congress delegation filed a complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner.

In Karnataka, three MPs from the Congress and one from the BJP are retiring and the outcome after the elections will be the same.As numbers stand in the Karnataka Assembly, the Congress is assured of three seats, and the BJP of one.

Each Rajya Sabha candidate needs at least 45 votes in the 224-MLA Karnataka Assembly to win a Rajya Sabha seat from the state.

The Congress with 135 MLAs has the exact number to elect its three candidates, Ajay Maken, Nasir Hussain and G C Chandrashekhar while the

BJP has 66 MLAs, which means it can easily get its main candidate, party worker Narayansa Bhandage, elected.

Combined with the 19 JD(S) MLAs, the BJP-JDs second candidate Kupendra Reddy will need to get support of three Independents and get at least three Congress MLAs to cross-vote if he wants to win.

In the 2022 Rajya Sabha polls, cross-voting by two JD(S) MLAs that had caused the surprise defeat of Reddy, then a JD(S) candidate.

Voting for 56 Rajya Sabha seats from 15 states, which are falling vacant in April, got underway on Tuesday.

While 50 members retire on April 2, six will retire the following day. Of the 238 members of the Upper House at present, 109 are from NDA parties while 89 belong to parties in the INDIA alliance.

The term for Rajya Sabha MPs is six years, and elections are held after every two years for 33 per cent of the seats. Currently, the Rajya Sabha has a strength of 245 members.

The Rajya Sabha MPs are elected by the MLAs in an indirect election through the system of proportional representation. They are mostly foregone conclusions, with elections being held unopposed and all party candidates sailing through.

A total of 56 seats are falling vacant in this round of the biennial elections. The BJP can win 27 seats as per its numbers, plus 1 more with the help of the BJD in Odisha. (ANI)

Akhilesh Says Will Scrap Agniveeer

Akhilesh Expects To Win 3 Seats Amid Cross-Voting Speculation

Ahead of the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha and amid speculation of cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha election, Samajwadi Party Cheif Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday expected to win three seats, where the party has put up candidates, in the Rajya Sabha election.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has put up eight Rajya Sabha candidates and the Samajwadi Party 3 for the 10 seats at stake. As per the numbers in the Legislative Assembly, the BJP is guaranteed to win 7 seats while the SP should win 3 seats. However, there are reports that several MLAs could cross-vote.

On Monday, some legislators of the SP went missing from a dinner hosted by SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav. Reports suggest at least 8 MLAs were missing from the dinner and now the fear is these legislators could abstain from the vote or corss vote, either of which will result in BJP winning its eighth seat in the state.

“We hope all three candidates of Samajwadi Party will win…BJP can use all the tactics to win elections. BJP will do everything possible for victory. Some of our leaders who want personal gains can go to the BJP…” said Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

“Our MLAs who are in contact with the Bharatiya Janata Party and those who want to take advantage of it will go with the Bharatiya Janata Party. They are being lured by the Bharatiya Janata Party camp,” added SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Singh Yadav, also said that democratic values have been finished off.

“Democratic values have been finished off…let’s see what happens if things happen this way…” said National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party Shivpal Singh Yadav.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Chaudhary, Samajwadi Party leader said that an unbiased election will strengthen democracy.

“Elections should be unbiased then only democracy will strengthen. Those who misuse power, can’t be a supporter of democracy…” said SP leader Rajendra Chaudhary.

The BJP however is confident on getting the numbers to win all the eights seats where they have put up candidates.

UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said, ” MLAs support and blessings are with BJP’s candidates. The results will be in favour of BJP…all candidates of BJP will win”

The seven candidates fielded by the BJP are former Union Minister RPN Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, general secretary of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit Amarpal Maurya, former state minister Sangeeta Balwant (Bind), party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, former MLA Sadhna Singh and former Agra mayor Naveen Jain.

But with the BJP fielding Sanjay Seth as its eighth candidate, a keen contest is on the cards in one of the seats.

The SP has fielded actor MP Jaya Bachchan, retired IAS officer Alok Ranjan, and Ramji Lal Suman.

To get elected to the Rajya Sabha from UP, a candidate needs nearly 37 first preference votes. Voting for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats will be held on Tuesday and the results will be announced the same day.

While the NDA and SP-Congress were negotiating with other parties on Monday in an attempt to gather the necessary support for their candidates, the BJP gained momentum when Raja Bhaiyya’s Jansatta Dal-Loktantrik promised to extend the support of its two MLAs to the party.

Following his grandfather Chaudhary Charan Singh being honoured with the Bharat Ratna earlier this month, Jayant Chaudhary had already declared RLD’s support for the BJP. RLD’s nine MLAs met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and attended a strategy session at Lok Bhawan with NDA partners.

(ANI)

ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui

Police Detain ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui In Kolkata

Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui was detained by police in Kolkata on Tuesday as he was preparing to visit Sandeshkhali.

He was seen indulging in a heated conversation with the police official, questioning his detention.

“Why am I being stopped from visiting Sandeshkhali? What is the reason behind my detention? Is there any written order?…” said MLA Naushad Siddiqui.

Earlier, in a blistering attack on the ruling TMC after it blamed legal processes for the delay in the arrest of absconding strongman and Sandeshkhali accused Sheikh Shahjahan, Congress state chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday said laying the blame on the Calcutta High Court in the matter amounted to ‘contempt of court’.

“Women across West Bengal are out on the streets, crying for justice and fighting for the honour of fellow women in Sandeshkhali. Those in the TMC government should hang their heads in shame for failing to protect the women of Sandeshkhali. Laying the blaming on the High Court and the legal process (for the delay in the arrest of the accused Sheikh Shahjahan), instead, amounts to contempt of court. The government should be held in contempt for saying that the high court has tied the hands of the state police” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.

On Monday, The Calcutta High Court Chief Justice ordered to add Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan to the Sandeshkhali case.

The HC Justice asked to issue a notice in the case and said, “There is no reason to not arrest him.”

Amid tensions over the Sandeshkhali incident, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday said that the Governor’s job is to see when the elected government takes action within the rule of law. If that is not done, then the governor will intervene.

Terming the decision by the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice on Sheikh Shahjahan, as momentous, the Governor added, that there is no excuse for not arresting Sheikh Shahjahan and he will be arrested.

Sandeshkhali has been tense for a few weeks as a section of women are seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides.

A large number of women in Sandeshkhali had accused Trinamool Congress strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters of “land-grab and sexual assault” under coercion. Shahjahan continues to evade arrest, with both state police and central agencies unable to trace him. (ANI)
