Cong Alleges Party’s Accounts Frozen, Calls It Freeze Of Democracy

Congress general secretary Ajay Maken alleged that the party’s accounts have been frozen by the Income Tax department and called it the “freeze of democracy”.

In a press conference held at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Maken said, “I have very disturbing news to share with all of you. The accounts of the Congress party have been frozen and also those of the Youth Congress have been frozen.”

“We got information yesterday that banks are not honouring the cheque we are issuing. On further investigation, we got to know that the Youth Congress bank accounts have been frozen. The accounts of the Congress party have also been seized. Income tax asked for Rs 210 crore recovery from Youth Congress and Congress party. The crowdfunding money in our accounts has been frozen. Just 2 weeks before elections when the opposition’s accounts are frozen, it is equivalent to freezing the democracy” he added.

The Congress leader questioned the motive behind the alleged freeze of party accounts ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

“When the principal opposition party’s accounts have been frozen just two weeks before the announcement of the national elections. Do you think democracy is alive in our country?” Maken remarked.

“We don’t have money, we don’t have money to pay the salaries, not only Nyay Yatra but all political activities will be impacted. We appealed in the Income Tax appellate tribunal the day before yesterday and the hearing is going on. We believe in the judiciary,” he added.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra arrived in Bihar on Friday.

The Yatra reached its final stage in Bihar and is scheduled to enter Uttar Pradesh later today.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi as it enters Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening. She will join her brother in Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh after the yatra enters the state from Bihar.

The East-West Manipur-Mumbai Yatra traverses 6,700 km through 15 states and aims to highlight the message of “nyay” (justice) while meeting common people on the way. (ANI)

Energy Among People In Manipur, Nagaland, Assam For Nyay Yatra: Venugopal

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said on Wednesday that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, set to be flagged off this week, will be historic like the previous Rahul Gandhi-led foot march, and there is enthusiasm among people in northeastern states, including Manipur, for the Yatra.

“I have been travelling to Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam. We have witnessed a huge amount of energy on the ground for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam are fully prepared to make it a grand success. Like Bharat Jodo Yatra, this Yatra is also going to be historic. That type of arrangement is going on everywhere,” the Congress general secretary said while addressing a press briefing here.

During the press conference, Venugopal, along with Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Manipur had declined permission to start the Yatra from the Palace Ground in Imphal.

Venugopal said, that despite repeated assurances that the Nyay Yatra was not political, the Manipur government refused permission while it has been holding its programs in the state.

He said the party was looking for alternate venues, and state leaders, including former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and PCC president K Meghachandra Singh, were in touch with the state chief minister on the issue. He disclosed that the chief minister had verbally agreed to one of the alternate venues.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders also issued a booklet spelling out the purpose and motto of the ‘yatra,’ besides launching websites and phone numbers where people can register themselves for participation in the Nyay Yatra.

The party will also be registering the ‘Nyay Yodhas’ who will not only participate in the yatra itself but will also be working outside.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will commence from Imphal on January 14 and cover a distance of 6,713 km, straddling 100 Lok Sabha constituencies and 337 assembly segments and covering 110 districts.

Replying to a question, the Congress general secretary organization said the party had invited all the ‘INDIA’ leaders to participate in the Yatra according to their convenience.

While making it categorically clear that the Yatra was not political, at the same time, he added, the Congress party was simultaneously preparing for the 2024 General Elections.

He also said there is no confusion between the Yatra and the Election preparations, adding that the party will be holding the meeting of the coordinators of all parliamentary constituencies on January 12. (ANI)

Priyanka Meets Punia, Sakshi Amid Protest Over WFI Chief’s Election

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Friday met wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia after Sakshi announced her retirement from wrestling in a protest against the election of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s aide Sanjay Singh as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Gandhi after meeting the protesting wrestlers assured them of her full support and said that she would stand in their fight till last.

After coming out of the meeting with the wrestlers, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi spoke to reporters and said, “I came here as a woman because I think what has happened to these girls is beyond disgusting.”

After the election of Sanjay Singh as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Sakshi Malik on Thursday put her shoes on the table at the press conference as she announced her decision to quit wrestling.

“We slept for 40 days on the roads and a lot of people from several parts of the country came to support us. If Brij Bhushan Singh’s business partner and a close aide is elected as the president of WFI, I quit wrestling,” she said, accompanied by some other wrestlers who were part of the protest.

Congress leader Deepender Hooda had also accompanied Priyanka Gandhi to the residence of a wrestler.

Deepender Hooda informed that Priyanka Gandhi assured the wrestlers she would stand in their fight for justice till last.

“Priyanka ji told them that Congress is with them. The whole nation is sad over the treatment our women wrestlers have got. This is unfortunate. We assured them of full support,” Hooda said.

Meanwhile, India’s ace wrestler Bajrang Punia, who on Friday announced that he is returning his Padma Shri after former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s aide was elected president of the federation, said he will not take the medal back home and placed it on the pavement near Kartavya Path in central Delhi.

“As I have said earlier we were fighting for our daughters and sisters. I could not get justice for them. Due to this, I think I do not deserve this honour. I came here to return my award, However, I could not meet with PM because I didn’t have an appointment. PM has a busy schedule. So I am putting my award on the letter written to PM. I will not take this medal to my home,” Bajrang Punia told reporters.

Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik were part of a protest by wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations against him.

Earlier, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections were held on Thursday after several postponements earlier in the year.

A panel led by Sanjay Singh won the WFI election. The other panel got seven votes.

Sanjay Singh served on the WFI’s previous executive council. Since 2019, he has also served as the national federation’s joint secretary.

The WFI elections were originally slated to be held on August 12. However, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while holding a hearing on a petition in August, extended the stay on the WFI elections till September 25. Elections to the federation, which oversees wrestling in the country, were initially planned for June this year. (ANI)

People Across Country Suffering From Inflation: Priyanka

Ahead of the November 25 assembly elections in Rajasthan, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed concern over the rising inflation, emphasizing that the economic strain has become so pronounced that women are apprehensive about managing their expenses during the festive season.

During her campaign in Rajasthan’s Sagwara, Dungarpur district, Priyanka Gandhi recounted her visit to Madhya Pradesh, “Women in Madhya Pradesh shared their worries about festival-related expenditures. They highlighted the challenges of cooking, hosting guests, purchasing household items, lighting diyas, fulfilling children’s requests for firecrackers, and buying new clothes”.

Priyanka underscored the pervasive concern among women regarding how to navigate these financial responsibilities.

Addressing the nationwide frustration with inflation, Priyanka mentioned the initiation of ‘Mehangai Rahat’ camps by states to assist people in coping with rising prices. She asserted that these camps have become essential due to the central government’s failure to control inflation.

“The entire country is fed up with inflation. You must have seen that during Dhanteras, when you had to buy something for your household, inflation has risen to such an extent. If the states had not started ‘Mehangai Rahat’ camps, how could you have managed? The situation is such that since the Centre is not controlling inflation, the states are running inflation camps to help you,” the senior Congress leader said.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining and privatizing major factories, Priyanka claimed that this has led to a decline in employment opportunities, pushing people to seek jobs in the private sector.

Priyanka said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party has weakened all big factories and PSUs and slowly given them to its friends and industrialists. They were a source of employment. Today everyone is seeking employment in the private sector.”

Speaking about the efforts of the Congress government in providing employment opportunities in the rural sector, Priyanka said, “The Congress government wants people to get employment in their villages. This leads to strengthening the village’s economy.”

On farmers’ distress, Priyanka said, “Today, farmers are suffering. Inflation is high, GST is applicable on all items, prices of petrol, diesel are high, GST is applicable on tractors as well.”

Priyanka said that in Rajasthan, lakhs of farmers were given farm loan waivers up to 14,000 crores.

“The Congress government thought that if loans are waived, it would lead to some relief. Farm loans are waived only in Congress-ruled states. In Rajasthan, lakhs of farmers were given farm loan waivers till 14,000 crores.

Speaking about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Priyanka said, “My grandmother Indira ji used to say that it is the culture of our country that all religions and ideologies, cultures must be respected.”

“Today 40 years have passed since she passed away….But the country remembers her even today. This is because she has treated the entire country like his family and kept them close to her heart,” she added.

Rajasthan is one of the states undergoing voting in this polling season. Voting concluded in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Friday. The first phase of Chhattisgarh elections and Mizoram took place on November 7. Telangana will vote on November 30. The counting of all the state assembly elections is scheduled for December 3.
