Delhi: Flights, Trains Delayed Due To Dense Fog, Cold Weather

Movement of flights and passenger trains to and from the National Capital continued to remain affected on Tuesday due to bad fog and adverse weather conditions.

While several flights were delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport as a layer of fog gripped the national capital. Arond 28 long distance trains to Delhi were also running behind schedule by up to five hours or more.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi was expected to be 7 degree Celsius, with a maximum of 18 degree Celsius. However, the recorded minimum temperature in Delhi on Tuesday morning was 6.9 degrees Celsius.

According to Northern Railways, 28 trains, including Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Bangalore-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, Azamgarh-Delhi JN Kaifiyat Express, Banaras-New Delhi Express, and Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express, faced delays ranging from 2 to 5 hours.

IMD has predicted moderate fog till January 26 in the National Capital, with foggy conditions expected on January 27 and 28.

People on Tuesday sat around the bonfire to keep themselves warm as the cold wave continued in Delhi.

Meanwhile, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail in the morning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 26 morning, according to the IMD.

Earlier on Monday, IMD said that shallow fog affected the Jammu division, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, contributing to visibility challenges.

Visibility challenges were evident at various locations. While Jammu Division reported 500-meter visibility, Patiala in Punjab recorded a mere 50-meter visibility. Delhi recorded only 500-meter visibility, impacting flight operations, while Varanasi and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh struggled with 25-meter and 50 meters of visibility respectively. (ANI)

Delhi: Dense Fog Disrupts Flights, 22 Trains Delayed

Dense fog and severe cold conditions continued to hamper flight and train movements to and from the national capital on Friday morning, causing inconvenience to passengers.

The arrival of nearly two dozen passenger trains to Delhi was delayed by up to 6 hours or more, and several flights were also late due to fog and poor visibility conditions.

As per the India Meteorological Department, the visibility was recorded as low as 50 metres at around 5.30 am on Friday in isolated regions.

This included parts of Punjab, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and East Rajasthan.

However, as per IMD, the visibility at Delhi’s Palam airport improved from ‘zero’ at 4.30 am today to 50 metres at 5 am and further improved to 150 metres at 6.30 am.

As on Friday at 5.30 am, very dense fog was observed in many parts of Punjab, in isolated parts of West Rajasthan, dense fog was observed in many parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and in isolated parts of East Rajasthan and Tripura.

Also, moderate fog was observed in isolated parts of Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha on Friday morning.

As many as 22 Delhi-bound trains are running behind schedule following the dense fog conditions in many parts of the country.

According to Northern Railways, five trains namely, Khajaurao-Kurukshetra Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, Rani Kamlapati-New Delhi Bhopal Express and Kamakhya-Delhi Junction are delayed by around 6-6.30 hours.

At least seven trains are expected to arrive late by around 2-2.45 hours.

This included Amritsar-Nanded Express, Rewa-Anand Vihar Express, Muzaffarpur-AnandVihar Express, Vasco-Nizamuddin Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Express, Jammutawi-Ajmer Pooja Express and Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express.

A delay of around 45 minutes is expected on the arrival of the Chennai-New Delhi Express. In addition to these, as many as nine trains are running behind schedule of around 1-1.45 hours, the railways said.

The long-distance trains namely Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Bhagalpur-Anandvihar Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Express, Banaras-New Delhi Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra, Chennai-New Delhi Express, Ferozpur-Mumbai Express, Bikaner-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express and Islampur-New Delhi Magadh Express are among those delayed.

The minimum temperatures in many parts of north India were recorded in the range of 3-6 degree Celsius while parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar saw a rise in minimum temperatures ranging between 7-10 degree Celsius on Friday morning.

As per the IMD, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over Northwest India during the next 24 hours and a rise by about 2 degree Celsius is expected in the next seven days.

Dense fog and low visibility affected several flight operations consecutively for the fifth day of the week.

Several passengers complained of delayed arrival of flights at Delhi airport.

“I have come from Dubai. My flight was delayed due to fog in Delhi,” a passenger at IGI airport said. (ANI)

Multiple Flights Diverted From Mumbai After Aircraft Skids Off

Multiple flights were diverted on Thursday after a VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL on a flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai was involved in runway excursion (veer off) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport leading to a temporary closure of runway, an official statement said.

According to officials, Two Vistara and one Akasa Airlines flight were diverted towards Bangalore airport. An Air India flight coming from Dubai was diverted towards Ahmedabad. Also a Vistara flight from Dehradun to Mumbai (DED-BOM) has been diverted to Goa Airport.

A total of 5 aircrafts have landed at Surat airport and two flights are still hovering in the airspace.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Spokesperson confirmed that it was not a crash and a aircraft had veered off the runway at Mumbai airport.

DGCA said that there were 6 passengers and 2 crew members on board however no casualties have been reported.

According to officials, three people were injured and taken to hospital. (ANI)

Priyanka Pens Appreciation Post For IndiGo Cabin Crew

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday penned down an appreciation post for the cabin crew of an IndiGo flight she was travellig on, calling them “most efficient and pleasant”.

Taking to Instagram, Priyanka Gandhi shared a string of pictures which she captioned, “Thank you to the sweet Indigo ladies on my flight to Gwalior….I have always thought that the crew on Indigo flights are most efficient and pleasant.”

In the pictures, the Congress general secretary is seen posing with the crew members of the flight and in the last post, she shared a picture of a special gift she received from team IndiGo.

Soon after she dropped the pictures, her followers swamped the comment section with red hearts and fire emoticons.

“This shows simplicity can bring people closer to you,” a fan commented.

Another fan wrote, “Brave girls!!“

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a public rally in the Gwalior-Chambal region, which is the home turf of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Friday.

Her rally in Gwalior comes two days after the Congress government announced implementation of Gruhalakshmi scheme in Karnataka for direct transfer of Rs 2000 every month to the women heads of families. (ANI)

Delhi: Several Flights, Trains Delayed Due To Low Visibility

Already reeling under a cold wave since the beginning of the new year, the national capital on Wednesday witnessed foggy conditions, with several flights and trains running late due to low visibility.

Several flights scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were delayed due to fog, informed airport authority on Wednesday.
While the Northern Railway informed that six trains were running late due to fog.

According to officials of Northern Railway, Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special, Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, Visakhapatnam-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express, Sultanpur -Anand Vihar Terminal Sadbhavana Express, Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana, Manikpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Uttar Pardesh Sampark Kranti Express, are running late by up to 1 hour.

Earlier, India Meteorological Department said that two western disturbances in quick succession are likely to affect northwest India on January 18 and 20, as a result,
cold wave
conditions over northwest India are likely to abate from January 19.

“Cold wave conditions over northwest India likely to abate from January 19. The rainfall/thunderstorm likely to commence from January 22 and continue till January 25 with peak activity on 23 and 24 January over the plains of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan,” the IMD said. Paris-Bound Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Delhi

An Air India flight bound for Paris was forced to return to New Delhi on Wednesday after a snag was detected midair.

The flight carrying 210 passengers landed safely at the airport, said the national carrier.
A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation official informed that Air India B787-800 aircraft VT-AND operating flight AI143 from Delhi to Paris was involved in an air turnback due to a “Slats Drive” snag message.

The DGCA ordered an inquiry after Air India’s Delhi to Paris flight made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

He added that the emergency landing happened at 2:25 pm, owing to a flap issue.

The flight took off at 1:28 pm and a full emergency was declared at 2:03 pm and landed safely. It had 210 passengers on board when an emergency was declared. All passengers are safe. (ANI)

39 International Travelers Tested Covid Positive In Three Days

The government of India has started randomly testing international passengers arriving at the airports for Coronavirus from 24 December onwards.

“The total number of international flights screened in the last three days ie Dec 24, Dec 25 and Dec 26 is 498. The no of samples collected for Covid19 testing is 1,780. The cumulative number of samples collected is 3,994. The cumulative number of samples testing positive is 39 and the cumulative number of samples sent for whole genome sequencing is 39,” sources told ANI.

In light of the surge in Covid-19 in some countries, hospitals across India conducted a Mock drill for Covid-19. The purpose of the mock drill was to evaluate Covid-19 preparedness in terms of resources, protocol and personnel.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya went to the Safdarjung Hospital to observe the Mock drill.

“To make sure there isn’t a Covid surge in the country, PM Narendra Modi has asked us to be careful. The government is also preparing if the Covid cases increase. Today mock drills are conducted across Covid hospitals in the country to make sure people get proper treatment,” said the Union Health Minister at Safdarjung hospital.

Earlier in the day, on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remain cautious and prepared to deal with any eventuality related to COVID-19, mock drills are being conducted on Tuesday in various hospitals across the country in view of rising Covid-19 cases in some countries including China, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.

This comes after four international travelers from Myanmar tested positive for the Coronavirus infection at the Delhi airport.

As there have been reports of a surge in Covid cases in some countries, the operational readiness of health facilities is being reviewed in all States and Union Territories in case of another wave.

BK Mohapatra, Director of Health Services in Odisha said, “Mock drill is being conducted today to see how prepared we are. We need to have full monitoring and keep all the logistics ready. There is excess oxygen in our state. If any shortcoming is found (during the mock drill), it will be addressed.”

Mock drills are conducted at (MCH) Hospital at Gandhi Nagar in Jammu, and Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. (ANI)

Bangladesh Calls For Resuming Dhaka-Guwahati Flight

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma, on Tuesday, held a meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. During the meeting, both sides discussed issues of mutual interest.

In the meeting, AK Abdul Momen emphasized resuming Guwahati-Dhaka air service and highlighted the need to have direct air connectivity between Guwahati and Sylhet. He underscored the need for a direct bus service between Sylhet-Silchar to promote people-to-people contacts, strengthen bilateral ties and ensure collective prosperity in the region.

AK Abdul Momen expressed gratitude to India for inviting Bangladesh to participate in the G20 meetings as a “guest country” during its G20 presidency, according to the press release issued by Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry.

Notably, India assumed the G20 presidency for one year on December 1. He stressed that Bangladesh’s participation in the G20 meeting will uphold its country’s image in the regional settings.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister called for “bolder solidarity” to address the issues faced by the Global South to tackle the challenges, including COVID-19, the crisis in Europe, and financing for climate emergency and sustained development goals implementation.

During the meeting, AK Abdul Momen recalled the arrangements made by the Indian government during his recent visit to Silchar in Assam from December 1-3 to attend the first edition of the Silchar-Sylhet Festival.

Furthermore, Momen noted that the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh on various occasions have stressed building common platforms for promoting understanding and cooperation to further bolster ties between the two nations, according to Bangladesh Foreign Ministry’s press release.

AK Abdul Momen further said, “Following their guidance, this festival revisited the connection, heritage, historical cultural and linguistic affinity between the two countries in order to strengthen the age-old people-to-people ties.”

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen along with a delegation consisting of Parliamentarians arrived in Silchar, Assam to attend the “Silchar-Sylhet Festival 2022.”

Bangladesh delegation led by Foreign Minister crossed the Sheola Land Port at the Sylhet border this morning. The Indian authorities welcomed Momen and the other members of the Bangladesh delegation at Sutarkandi ICP.

In the two-day event of “Silchar-Sylhet Festival-2022,” Momen expressed his deep satisfaction and said, “After 50 years, I am privileged to cross the Bangladesh-India border through Shewla-Sutarkandi and my delegation is pleased with the cordial welcome they extended to us.”

AK Abdul Momen expressed gratitude to the Indian authorities and said that the Indians were warm and friendly. He said, “This is a historic event as two neighbours can get together in an atmosphere of hope and aspirations.” He was invited as the chief guest at the events organized on the occasion of the ‘1st Silchar-Sylhet Festival – 2022’ (ANI)
