Bumrah Released From Squad, KL Ruled Out Of 4th Test Against England

Star speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad ahead of the fourth Test against England, while KL Rahul has been ruled out of the contest as he continues to regain fitness after suffering an injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday released an official statement to announce Bumrah’s absence from the fourth Test due to the number of games he has played in recent times.

“Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the 4th IDFC First Bank Test against England in Ranchi. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times,” BCCI statement read.

With Bumrah sitting out of the match, Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the squad for the third Test in Rajkot has joined the squad in Ranchi.

KL Rahul is yet to make an appearance after the first Test. He will miss the third consecutive Test after he complained of right quadriceps pain. Rahul’s chances of appearing in the final Test will depend on his chances of regaining fitness before the clash.

“KL Rahul is ruled out of the 4th Test. His participation in the final Test match in Dharamsala is subject to fitness,” the statement said.

India are currently leading the five-match series by 2-1. The hosts suffered a 28-run defeat in the series opener in Hyderabad.

India In Driver's Seat Against England In Second Test

India In Driver’s Seat Against England In Second Test

India had England in trouble on the second day of the second Test here as they established a 171-run lead in the first innings after bowling out the visitors for 253 runs due to a decisive spell by pacer Jasprit Bumrah who took six wickets.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 396 with a superb double ton by young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal contributing more than half of those runs.

England resumed the post-Tea session on second day in the match being played at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium at 155/4 with Jonny Bairstow (24) and Ben Stokes (5) on the crease.

Both the batters were able to add only four runs before the visitors lost the wicket of Bairstow who was caught in the slips on the bowling of Bumrah after scoring 25 runs.

Left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav also exerted pressure on visitors as he scalped two wickets inside 10 runs. First, he took the wicket of Ben Foakes who was bowled after scoring just 6 runs with England score at 172. Later, he dismissed youngster Rehan Ahmed with 182 runs on board.

Stokes and Tom Hartley built a partnership of 47 runs before the former fell to Bumrah. The England skipper scored 47 runs. This was Bumrah’s fourth wicket of the innings. England were in trouble with eight wickets gone for 229 runs.

The right-arm seamer completed its fifer as he dismissed Hartley with England score at 239 runs. Hartley was able to score 21 runs with the help of two fours and a six before going back to the pavilion.

Bumrah grabbed his sixth wicket as the English side was bundled out for 253 runs. England team was all out inside a day’s play.

Indian openers took to crease in their second innings and adopted an attacking approach. At stumps on Day 2, India were 28/0 with Jaiswal unbeaten on 15* and Rohit unbeaten on 13*. Five overs were bowled in India’s second innings in the fast-paced match.

England were 32/0 when the session began after Lunch with Ben Duckett (17) and Zak Crawley (15) unbeaten at the crease.

Crawley stood tall and launched a counter-attack against Indian bowlers, smoking Bumrah to four boundaries in the ninth over. England reached the 50-run mark in 8.3 overs.Kuldeep Yadav’s spin earned India their first wicket after Duckett was caught for a 17-ball 21 by Rajat Patidar. England were 59/1 in 10.2 overs.

Crawley reached his half-century in just 52 balls, with eight fours and a six. He continued to display his attacking intent against spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav, smashing them for boundaries.

England reached the 100-run mark in 19.3 overs.

The 55-run partnership between Crawley and Ollie Pope was over as Iyer ran back from backward point to pluck a catch on a delivery by Axar Patel, removing the right-hander who had made 76 in 78 balls which included 11 fours and two sixes. England lost their second wicket on the score of 114.

Bumrah took two quick wickets, first getting Joe Root caught by Shubman Gill at slips for five and then dismantling Pope’s middle and leg stump for 23 with a pin-point yorker. England were 136/4.England reached the 150-run mark in 31.5 overs and Stokes-Bairstow ensured there is no further loss of wickets.

Yashavi’s sublime 209 came off 290 balls. The 22-year-old opener was a cut above the others, the only Indian hitter who rose to challenge that England could present in their innings.

India started the first session of Day 2 at 336/6. Jaiswal continued his charge with bat for India and kept the scoreboard ticking while stitching up an effective partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin.

However, England refused to buckle with veteran pacer James Anderson settling well into the second day with Ashwin’s wicket in the 101th over. Ashwin tried to play a defensive shot but the ball hit the inside edge and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took an easy catch behind the stumps.

With marvellous six and four, Yashasvi displayed his fearless intent and brought up his maiden double hundred in Test cricket, which was followed by leaps and punches in the air in celebration.

Anderson’s arrival, in place of Mark Wood, whose vigorous efforts had gone wicketless in Hyderabad, provided a level of comfort to Ben Stokes.

The thrilling contest between Jaiswal and Anderson came to an end as the young Indian opener went for the big hit against the veteran England pacer but handed a catch to Jonny Bairstow at the extra cover.

Rehan Ahmed then provided England with another wicket as he removed Jasprit Bumrah for 6. India fell short of 400 as Shoaib Bashir removed Mukesh Kumar to bundle out hosts for 396.India had scored 336/6 on the first day of the second Test. England are one up in the five-match series having won the first Test.

Mohammed Kaif Bumrah

Return Of Bumrah Will Benefit India: Kaif

Former Indian batter Mohammed Kaif on Monday said that fans should not write off Team India so easily if it happens to play and lose matches without its key players, saying that the senior-most players like Jasprit Bumrah, who he termed as country’s biggest match-winner, will be back for tournaments like Asia Cup and the ICC Cricket World Cup coming this year.

Kaif’s statement comes as a new-look Indian team is trailing 2-0 in the T20I series against West Indies under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. Seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not been considered for T20Is this year while Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are on track to return to the side after facing injuries.

“There is too much overreaction. There should not be much negative reaction. We are missing our big players. Bumrah is the biggest factor for us. If he gains match fitness after recovering fully, it will benefit India. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are also injured and about to make their comebacks,” said Kaif to ANI.

“Our playing eleven is set. There is Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma at the opening, followed by Virat Kohli at three, Shreyas Iyer at four, KL Rahul at five, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja at six and seven positions. Axar Patel or Shardul could play at eight depending on conditions, while Kuldeep Yadav, who has a great ODI record, will be at nine. At final two spots will be Bumrah and Mohammed Shami,” he added.

Kaif said that despite his great performances for India across all formats this year, pacer Mohammed Siraj might not feature in playing eleven during the first match against Australia in Chennai on October 8.

“The track at Chennai is a turner, it will favour spinners. Siraj might not play here. If he cannot make it to the playing eleven, how will the other new players? But yes, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav will be in the squad. Do not write off India so quickly. Our senior-most players will play Asia Cup and World Cup. Yes, there have been some mistakes made in our recent matches, but it is not easy to win without Bumrah either. He is our biggest match-winner. Once he will be back, he is someone who can win 50 per cent of matches for India himself,” he said.

Bumrah makes his return to competitive cricket as he will lead India during the T20I series against Ireland, starting in August, announced the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier in July.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had on July 21 issued an update on the recovery of its key players like Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Rahul, along with Iyer have resumed batting practice in nets and are also undergoing strength and fitness drills.

“They have resumed batting in the nets and are currently undergoing strength and fitness drills. The BCCI Medical Team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in terms of both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming days,” BCCI had stated about Rahul and Iyer’s recovery from their injuries.

Pant has also made significant progress in his rehabilitation and has commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets. He is currently following a fitness programme designed for him which includes strength, flexibility and running, the statement had said.

Notably, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on July 27 that the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will see some changes.

“There is a small gap in some matches. There is a two-day gap between the two matches. After the match is over, players will travel the next day and they will get no time for practice. Minor changes happen in the World Cup schedule, especially in India, when you look back at history,” Jay Shah said while addressing a press conference.

“We are trying that there are fewer changes in matches and venues, especially the venues. Also, two to three nations have requested changes in schedule. ICC and BCCI logistics teams are working on this and everything will be clear in two to four days. We could see some changes,” he said.

As per the original schedule release in June, the opening match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, featuring defending champions England and runner-up New Zealand, is set to commence on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Ten teams will feature in this biggest Cricket World Cup ever, to be played across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament opener and the final. The event will feature 48 matches to be played across 46 days.

India’s World Cup campaign will begin with a match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

The venues other than Ahmedabad and Chennai are Bengaluru, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. While Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will join Hyderabad in hosting the practice games.

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will square off at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Eight teams have qualified for the 46-day event through the Cricket World Cup Super League while the final two spots were decided by the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier taking place in Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka and the Netherlands grabbed the two final spots in the tournament.

The tournament retains the round-robin format of last time with all teams playing against each other for a total of 45 league matches. There are six day matches that will start at 10:30 Indian Standard Time (IST) while all other matches, including the knockouts, will be day-night fixtures starting at 14.00 IST.

The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, to be played in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. The final will be on November 19 in Ahmedabad. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days. (ANI)

Bumrah video of his bowling in nets

Star Pacer Bumrah Posts Video Of His Bowling In Nets

Amid speculation over his fitness, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has apparently increased the frequency of his bowling in the nets.

The ace pacer posted a video on social media where he is seen bowling in the nets.
The pacer’s recovery indicates that he may be fit before the next Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 owing to his injury and missed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He also missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, a tournament in which he represents Mumbai Indians.

In April, Bumrah underwent surgery on his lower back in New Zealand. While fans wait to see Bumrah back on the field with his unique bowling action, he has been unable to join the team due to a recurring injury. He has attempted to make a comeback more than once since suffering a back injury in August last year.

Initially, the injury did not seem serious as he was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad in September and even played the last two T20Is against Australia on September 23 and September 25 last year.

Three days later, Bumrah did not play the first T20I against South Africa and it was learnt that he was taken for scans, which revealed a stress-related injury in his back. He was rushed to NCA and the scans confirmed that the injury was serious. It ruled him out of the T20 World Cup, in which India achieved a semi-final finish.

Bumrah resumed his rehab in November and started to bowl in mid-December. His progress seemed to be positive as he was added to the white-ball series played in January against Sri Lanka more than a week after the original squad was picked up.

Bumrah performed the match simulation exercises in the NCA, but discomfort resurfaced while taking up higher workloads during fitness drills in January. Scans revealed the development of a fresh niggle, which ruled him out of the Sri Lanka series and Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

India’s star batter KL Rahul, who is recuperating from a thigh injury that he sustained while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2023), hinted his return as he posted a picture where he can be seen resting after a training session.

After a successful surgery on May 9 in England, Rahul reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to begin his recovery. He has hinted that he is getting close to being fully healthy, much to the pleasure of his supporters.

World Cup will be held in India from October 5. (ANI)

Bumrah Flies Back To Mumbai

Bumrah Unlikely To Play In ICC T20 World Cup 2022

India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting October 16.

Bumrah is believed to be ruled out of the competition with a back injury. As per BCCI sources to ANI, the right-arm quick is out of action because of the complaint of back pain.
“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I,” BCCI tweeted earlier on Wednesday.

Bumrah had not traveled with the team for the opening T20I against South Africa, played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

Bumrah, who had also been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to his back problem, and was training at the National Cricket Academy, played the last two T20Is against Australia. (ANI)
