Advani To Be Conferred Bharat Ratna: Modi

Advani To Be Conferred Bharat Ratna: Modi

Saffron stalwart and senior BJP leader LK Advani will be conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday.

Taking to the social media platform, PM Modi said the former Union Minister’s contribution to the development of India is monumental.

“I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights,” PM posted on X.

Born in Karachi, in present day Pakistan, on November 8, 1927, Advani through the years had served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest period since its inception in 1980. Capping a parliamentary career of nearly three decades, he was, first, the Home Minister and, later, the Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1999-2004).

Advani is widely regarded as an individual of great intellectual ability, strong principles, and unwavering support for the idea of a strong and prosperous India. As confirmed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Advani has ‘never compromised on his core belief in nationalism, and yet has displayed flexibility in political responses whenever it was demanded by the situation’.

The veteran leader’s celebration of India’s independence from the British in 1947 was sadly short lived as he became one of the millions to be torn from his homeland amidst the terror and bloodshed of the tragedy of India’s partition. These events, however, did not turn him bitter or cynical but instead spurred him on in his desire to create a more secular India. With this goal in mind he journeyed to Rajasthan to continue his work as an RSS Pracharak.

Through the latter half of the 1980s and the 1990s, LK Advani focused on the singular task of building the BJP into a national political force. The results of his efforts were underscored by the 1989 General Election. The Party bounced back from its 1984 tally of 2 to achieve an impressive 86 seats. The Party position moved up to 121 seats in 1992 and 161 in 1996; making the 1996 elections a watershed in Indian democracy. For the first time since independence, the Congress was dethroned from its preeminent position, and the BJP became the single largest party in the Lok Sabha. (ANI)

Parents Should Avoid Running Commentary, It Creates Pressure On Students: Modi

Parents Should Avoid Running Commentary, It Creates Pressure On Students: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged parents to avoid comparing the performance of their wards with that of the latter’s friends or siblings as such a practice of “running commentary” will prove detrimental to a child’s future.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during an interaction with students at the seventh edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, a programme where he attempts to create a stress-free atmosphere for youngsters who are preparing to give their exams.

“There is a pressure that we have set for ourselves like we have to get up at 4 am in the morning. We have to study till 11 pm at night, solve this many answers, I think we should not stretch ourselves so much that our ability gets broken. We should do it in increments, slowly,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister observed that parents step up the pressure by asking children to wake up early during exams and by comparing students with their friends.

“This running commentary by parents, elder brothers and teachers drawing negative comparisons every now and then is detrimental to a student’s future. It does more harm than good. So, we must ensure that issues are addressed through a proper and heartfelt conversation with students rather than reducing their morale and confidence through unfriendly comparisons and talks,” PM Modi said, adding that the parents should avoid such a practice.

“This programme is like an exam for me too”: PM Modi said during the interaction where he sought to answer questions from students and their teachers from across the coutnry.

He also said that one must become capable of bearing all kinds of pressures. “One must become capable of bearing any kind of pressure. They should believe that pressure keeps on building and one has to prepare oneself (to tackle it),” the PM said.

Addressing a range of questions, from peer pressure to competition among classmates, the PM said that if there is no competition in life, then life will become unmotivated. “There must be competition, but only healthy competition,” he said.

The Prime Minister pointed out that teachers play an important role in reducing the stress of students. “Therefore, there should always be a positive relationship between teachers and students. The job of a teacher is not just to do a job, but to enhance life, and to give strength to live, this is what brings change,” he said.

This year, the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme was held in a town hall format at Bharat Mandapam here in the national capital.

Two students and a teacher from each of the States and Union Territories and winners of the Kala Utsav were invited as special guests for the main event. A total of 100 students from the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), from different parts of the country attended the event for the first time since inception.

Referring to the successful G20 event, held at the venue in September last year, the Prime Minister said, “You have come to the venue where all the great leaders of the world discussed the future of the world for two days. And today (at the same place) you are going to discuss about the future of India.”

Shortly before his address, the Prime Minister inspected an exhibition, where the future of the country showcased him their tech innovations.

“I got an opportunity today to understand what our youths think about various sectors such as land, water, space and AI, and what solutions they have about the issues in these sectors. It felt that even if I had four to five hours, it would have been less,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi holds the interaction with students every year before the Board exams. In addition to discussing exam stress relief, he also offered insights and useful advice from past programmes.

Earlier on Sunday, Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, held a press conference regarding PM Modi’s unique interactive programme, Pariksha Pe Charcha, wherein students, parents, and teachers across the nation and also from overseas interact with him to discuss and overcome the stress emerging out of examinations to celebrate life as an Utsav.

Sarkar said this event has been organised successfully for the last six years by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education. The first three editions of PPC were held in New Delhi in a town-hall interactive format. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fourth edition was held online in the form of a programme telecast on Doordarshan and all major TV channels.

The fifth and sixth editions of PPC were again held in town-hall format at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. Almost 31.24 lakh students, 5.60 lakh teachers, and 1.95 lakh parents participated enthusiastically in the contests last year (2023), the union minister said.

He also said that the 7th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ recorded a massive 2.26 crore registration on the MyGov portal. He added that this shows the extensive enthusiasm among students nationwide, eager to participate in this distinctive event and interact with the Prime Minister. (ANI)

Modi To Begin Two-Day Visit to Assam From Feb 3

Public Glorification of Those Convicted of Corruption Insult to Judiciary, Constitution: PM

In a veiled attack on some opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that they stand in support of members who violate decorum and asserted that public glorification of those who have been convicted of corruption by the court “is an insult to the executive, judiciary and Constitution”.

In a video message at the All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, the Prime Minister said that enhancing the efficiency of legislative assemblies and committees is crucial in today’s scenario where vigilant citizens scrutinize every representative.

The Prime Minister’s remarks on the “public glorification” of leaders who have faced conviction in corruption cases have come amid a political crisis in Bihar where the RJD, led by Lalu Prasad, is a key component of the ruling alliance. Lalu Prasad has faced conviction in fodder scam cases and is fighting these cases.

The Prime Minister urged presiding officers to discuss how to maintain the decorum of the House.

“Today we are witnessing one more change. Earlier if any member of the House was accused of corruption, everyone used to distance themselves from him. But today we see even the corrupt people, convicted by the court, being publicly glorified… This is an insult to the executive. This is an insult to the judiciary. This is also an insult to the great Constitution of India. Discussion and concrete suggestions on this topic in this conference will pave the way for a new road for the future,” he said.

“There was a time, whenever any member in the House violates the decorum and if action was taken against him as per the rules, then the other senior members of the House used to explain to that member so that in future they do not make such mistakes that affect the atmosphere of the House and its decorum. But in today’s time, we have seen that some political parties stand in support of such members and start defending their mistakes. This situation, be it in Parliament or Assembly, is good for anyone. How to maintain the decorum of the House? This discussion is very important in this form,” he added.

The Prime Minister referred to the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

“Only last year, the Parliament approved the ‘Narishakti Vandan Act’. Such suggestions should also be discussed at this conference, which will increase the efforts and representation of women’s empowerment,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the conference is taking place soon after the 75th Republic Day.

“Best wishes to all of you for the All India Presiding Officers Conference. This time this conference is even more special, this conference is taking place immediately after the 75th Republic Day of India. Our Constitution came into force 75 years ago on 26th January, that is, the Constitution is also completing 75 years. I respectfully salute all the members of the Constituent Assembly on behalf of the countrymen…

“I have been told that this time, the main subject of discussion will be the working culture of the Vidhan Mandals and the steps to ensure the efficacy and efficiency of Samitis. Today, the way the people of the country are examining and analysing every public representative with awareness, such reviews and discussions will prove to be very useful,” he said.

Reflecting on the debates in the Constituent Assembly, the Prime Minister said the members had the responsibility to form a consensus among various thoughts, subjects, and opinions, “and they lived up to it.”

Highlighting the role of the attending Presiding Officers, the Prime Minister urged them to draw inspiration from the ideals of the Constituent Assembly once again. “In your respective tenures, strive to leave a legacy that can serve as a heritage for future generations”, he emphasized.

PM Modi said that India’s progress hinges on the advancement of the states.

“And the progress of states depends on the determination of their legislative and executive bodies to define their development goals collectively.”

The Prime Minister also spoke of the efforts of the central government to repeal redundant laws.

“Over the past decade, the central government has repealed over two thousand laws that were detrimental to our system. This simplification of the judicial system has eased the challenges faced by the common man and enhanced the ease of living.”

Prime Minister Modi called upon the Presiding Officers to pay attention to unnecessary laws and their impact on citizens’ lives, stressing that their removal would have a significant positive impact.

“Our young representatives must get maximum opportunity to put their views and participation in policy-making”, PM Modi emphasized.

Prime Minister Modi recalled the concept of One Nation-One Legislative Platform put forward in his 2021 address to the presiding officers and expressed happiness that Parliament and State Assemblies are working on this goal through e-Vidhan and Digital Sansad Platforms.
