TN BJP Chief On Coimbatore Blast

Accept It As Suicide Attack, Hand Over Probe To NIA: TN BJP Chief On Coimbatore Blast

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Tuesday said that state police should accept as a “suicide attack,” the car explosion due to an LPG cylinder blast in Coimbatore, in which a man was charred to death.

He said the Tamil Nadu BJP has written to home minister Amit Shah seeking a transfer of the case to the National Investigation Agency.
Addressing a press conference here Annamalai said, “A day before Diwali, a car exploded in Coimbatore. Raids by NIA and arrests have shown that Coimbatore has become a den of terrorists. Police have recovered 50 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium, sodium, fuse wire, and 7-volt batteries from the residence of Jamesha Mubin (who died in the accident). Police have not disclosed this till now.”

“On October 21, Jamesha Mubin posted a WhatsApp status similar to that of ISIS,” Annamalai said.

“Police haven’t said why they have arrested 5 people. On behalf of TN BJP, we’ve written a letter to Union Home Minister regarding this blast. Police have to accept this as a ‘suicide attack’,” the Tamil Nadu state BJP leader said.

Coimbatore City Police late on Monday night arrested five men after a man was burnt to death when the car he was in a gas cylinder fitted inside the car exploded at Ukkadam, near the famed Sangameshwarar temple in the city on Sunday morning.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Dhalha, Mohammed Azarudeen, Mohammed Riyas, Feroz Ismail, and Mohammed Navaz Ismail have been remanded to police custody.

The body of the deceased recovered from the blast site has been identified as 25-year-old Jamesha Mubin.

Tamil Nadu BJP leader alleged that Chief Minister MK Stalin should focus more on law and order to save Tamil people from violence and terrorist activities.

“Now people from a specific religion are part of Tamil Nadu Intelligence. This is a total intelligence failure. The Police have to accept that this is a ‘suicide attack’,” said Annamalai adding that in his letter to the NIA he has sought that the case is shifted to the NIA.

Meanwhile, security has been increased in Coimbatore with Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel deployed across the city to carry out search and security operations across public areas like bus stands and railway stations.

Visuals from the CCTV footage near the house showed five people purportedly taking out a gunny bag from Mubeen’s house on Saturday, police said

During a search at Mubin’s residence in the Kottaimedu area in Ukkadam, police said they recovered chemicals like potassium nitrate, aluminum, and sulfur, which are used to make crude bombs.

“We have also recovered nails and ball bearing from the spot where the explosion happened. We have identified the source of the cylinders and the car. This could not be a suicide attack,” said state Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu. (ANI)

bans on firecrackers

Tamil Nadu: 1.5 Lakh Left Jobless After Firecracker Ban

Owing to blanket bans on firecrackers in numerous states, 1.5 lakh people in the firecracker manufacturing industry have been left jobless in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.

Firecracker makers who were anticipating a boom this Diwali after a two-year halt due to Covid-19, are also facing losses.
It is noteworthy that the firecracker sector has employed over 7 lakh people, and there are currently more than 1,000 registered firecracker units in operation. For more than 6.5 lakh Sivakasi families, the fireworks industry has been their only source of income. However, recent developments, including the ban on barium, have left over 1.5 lakh people jobless.

“The garland cracker has been banned despite being a significant item. Since garland crackers are entirely handmade and when we are not able to produce them, workers lose their jobs. This work was performed by around 40 percent of factory employees,” one of the workers said.

Nagendra, a fireworks worker, stated, “I’ve spent the last 20 years working in a cracker factory. The firecracker industry is the only industry in the Sivakasi area. The firecracker industry is the only source of income for the 5 lakh people that live here. Agriculture cannot be practiced under these conditions, only the firecracker business can.”

“For many years, the firework industry has been afflicted by issues such as a restriction on the use of certain chemicals and a ban on the manufacture of some explosives. Due to the rain, fireworks cannot be manufactured at this time. This has resulted in employment losses, and many states have banned the sale and bursting of firecrackers around Diwali, thus our work is not yielding the desired results,” he further added.

“Therefore, on behalf of the firecracker workers, I request that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should consult Prime Minister Modi and raise the livelihood of the firecracker workers,” Nagendra said.

Nagama, another fireworks worker, stated, “There is no longer any production or selling of firecrackers. We don’t know any other businesses besides crackers, and that are being harmed by government laws that are costing us our jobs. The government should consider our welfare and make sound decisions.” (ANI)

Speaker Orders Eviction Of EPS

TN: Speaker Orders Eviction Of EPS, AIADMK MLAs

Speaker Appavu on Tuesday ordered the eviction of Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Edappadi K Palaniswami and other AIADMK MLAs amid a ruckus in the Assembly.

The opposition leaders continued to create a ruckus even after the eviction orders.
“No one has any right to demand where one should be seated inside the assembly,” Speaker Appavu said.

He added that tomorrow the AIADMK members can attend assembly sessions but not today.

The Speaker had given assurance that he will give time after Question Hour to raise the issue of seating arrangement for the Deputy Leader of the Opposition. As per the present seating arrangement, both EPS and O Paneerselvam (OPS) sit in the front row together in their capacity as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Deputy LoP respectively.

“Before today’s assembly session Edappadi Palaniswami and some MLAs met me in my room. They gave four letters to me which they have already sent to me. At the same time regarding AIADMK election case is going on in the Supreme Court. Both EPS and OPS expressed their side to me. But only the Speaker has the right to decide,” Appavu said.

Addressing a press conference afterwards, EPS said: “Over 60 MLAs from the AIADMK do not want OPS to be the Deputy Leader of Opposition. We had given representations to the Speaker on the same. It has been two months since we requested the Speaker to remove OPS from the position but no changes have been made and OPS continues to be the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.”

EPS alleged that “We are not being given chance to speak about this in the Assembly. It seems that the Speaker is acting on the suggestion of the DMK. OPS is someone who has been removed from the primary membership of ADMK.”

Earlier on October 17, when the Monsoon Session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly began, EPS remained absent. As per sources, he “boycotted” the Assembly session because rival faction leader OPS was made to sit as the Assembly Deputy Opposition Leader Chair, sources said.

The former Chief Minister OPS was seen participating in the proceedings of the House seated in the chair for AIADMK deputy floor leader.

Addressing media persons after the session, OPS said, “We are attending the assembly session today as AIADMK MLAs. You should ask the EPS faction why they did not attend the assembly session.”

Earlier on July 11, in the General Council meeting convened, EPS was elected as the interim General Secretary of the party. Before the meeting, supporters of both rival factions clashed outside the party headquarters. Following the violent clash, the headquarters was seized by the Revenue Divisional Officer.

The August 17 judgement by a single bench of Justice G Jayachandran had nullified the July 11 meeting and ordered status quo, as prior to July 11. EPS camp then challenged the single bench judgement to a division bench of Madras High Court which ruled in favour of EPS.

Both factions of the AIADMK have urged the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M Appavu to identify them as real AIADMK. The matter is pending in the Supreme Court. (ANI)

BJP To Go To Any Extent To Win 2024 LS: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who was elected as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president for the second time unopposed on Sunday, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will go to any extent to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The party should win all the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in the state and the lone seat in neighboring Puducherry as well,” he said.
In his address at the DMK’s 15th general council meeting, Stalin told the party leaders and workers to be ready to defeat BJP and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the Parliamentary election.

“We have to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies and start working on booth committees from now for the Parliamentary election. Finish this work within the next two months,” Stalin said after he was elected as DMK President.

The Chief Minister said that he is confident that the DMK is permanently going to be the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

“We can’t be careless as we won in the State Assembly Election and formed the government. We have to be careful to maintain this victory. Permanently we have to keep this victory. I don’t have any doubts that hereafter DMK is permanently going to be the ruling government in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu CM said that this Parliamentary election victory would be the base for a 100 percent win in the next State assembly election.

“Spread awareness about our ideology among youngsters. Create awareness about our government’s achievements among people. These are very important as General Election is nearing. We have to win all 40 constituencies and should play an important role in national politics. No one should be careless about this in any way. This Parliament election victory would be the base for a 100 per cent win in the next State assembly election,” said the DMK chief.

Accusing the BJP of trying to do politics by instigating the religious and spiritual sentiments of the people, he said since the people of Tamil Nadu never mixed politics and spiritualism, the BJP is now breathless in the state.

“Don’t forget that the BJP will go to any extent to win the Parliamentary election. BJP doesn’t have anything to list out their achievements. So they are defaming our party. The BJP is trying to play politics with religion and spiritualism. But in Tamil Nadu BJP is struggling to breathe as Tamil People never mix politics and spiritualism,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that the BJP using AIADMK and creating inter-party issues for them.

“After Jayalalithaa’s demise without a strong leader AIADMK is so weak and they are now split into four teams. AIADMK doesn’t have any ideology other than being against DMK. That’s why today they seem very weak,” the DMK chief said.

He asked the DMK leaders and workers to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies.

“We have to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies. Start working on booth committees from now for the Parliament election. Finish this work within the next two months,” he added.

Stalin was elected as DMK President for the second time unopposed.

Similarly, Duraimurugan as DMK General Secretary and TR Balu as DMK Treasurer were also elected again unopposed.

DMK MP Kanimozli was nominated for the post of DMK Deputy general secretary which was vacant since last month. (ANI)

Petrol Bombs

Petrol Bombs Thrown At House Of RSS Member In TN

As many as three petrol bombs were hurled into the house of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) member in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.

The incident was captured in the CCTV footage which as per the timestamp took place around 7:38 pm on Saturday at Mel Anuppanadi housing board area in Madurai at the residence of MS Krishnan.
The CCTV footage shows bike-borne men were seen approaching the house and hurling petrol bombs before the duo sped away.

Police are probing the incident.

“Three petrol bombs were thrown at RSS member house and we are investigating in this regard. No one was injured and damaged in the accident,” Shanmugam Madurai South’s Assistant Commissioner told ANI.

In this regard, RSS member Krishnan and BJP Madurai district president Suseendran filed a petition to the Keerathurai police.

After receiving his petitions, the police assured to arrest the accused soon.

“I have been working in an RSS organization for the last 45 years. Around 7 pm we did puja at my house with about 65 people. Then I heard a noise outside and when I came out, my car was on fire. Last year in 2014 police gave protection to me due to danger to my life but the police protection was withdrawn in 2021. More than 20 RSS workers like me have been attacked in Tamil Nadu alone. We have lodged a complaint with the police regarding the petrol bomb hurled at my house. They assured to arrest the accused by tonight,” said Krishnan.

BJP’s Suseendran said that the idea of PFI is to establish an Islamic state in India adding that they are doing a planned action to disrupt the Hindu nation and disrupt the traditional culture of the democratic country.

“In the last two days more than 20 people’s houses have been attacked, DMK Congress and its allied parties have not expressed any condemnation against this incident. But they only need Hindu votes. They (DMK and alliance party’) did not come forward to voice the atrocities against Hindus. Soon there will be a change of government in Tamil Nadu. If the police delay in arresting the accused, the protest will continue till the arrest of the accused,” said Suseendran.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP has written to Home Minister Amit shah highlighting the increasing attacks against BJP and RSS functionaries in recent times.

The letter to Amit shah mentioned 19 attacks against those belonging to Hindu outfits (the incident include the damaging of houses, vehicles, hurling of petrol bombs etc.).

Earlier, a petrol bomb was hurled at the house of an RSS leader near Tambaram near Chennai in the early hours of Saturday, said the police.

No person was injured or no major property damage took place.

“Petrol bomb hurled on RSS functionary Seetharaman’s residence at Chitlapakkam in Tambaram near Chennai. Efforts are underway to nab two unidentified people who threw petrol bomb,” according to the Tamil Nadu police.

The occupant, Seetharaman (62), a district coordinator of RSS was inside the house with his family. Family members rushed out after hearing a loud noise.

“At around 4 am, we heard a loud sound and saw fire outside. We thought it to be a short circuit but it wasn’t the case. We doused the fire and called police officials. They got the footage of the accused,” Seetharaman told ANI.

After being informed about the incident, Chitlapakkam police officers came to the spot and examined the CCTV footage of the area. The footage revealed that suspects on a two-wheeler stopped in front of Sitharaman’s house, ignited the bottle filled with petrol and threw it inside the house.

Another bottle bomb was hurdled at BJP worker Sarath’s residence in Kuniyamuthur city in Tamil Nadu on Friday night in which a car parked in the premises was damaged. Earlier on Thursday, a bottle filled with inflammable substance was hurled at the BJP office.

Following this, BJP workers protested in the area demanding action against the culprits. According to BJP, this is a kind of “terror attack”.

“Petrol bomb thrown at our office, this is how terror attacks come, today raids (against PFI) took place at several places, it is the anniversary of Hindu Munnani leader and BJP National president too is in the state,” Nandkumar, BJP worker said on Thursday.

The incident came hours after National Investigation Agency, Enforcement Directorate and the state police forces jointly carried out coordinated searches at the houses and offices of the top Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders and members across India on Thursday, including Tamil Nadu.

Searches were conducted at 93 locations in 15 states of India on Thursday. The states where the raids were conducted included Andhra Pradesh (4), Telangana (1), Delhi (19), Kerala (11), Karnataka (8), Tamil Nadu (3), Uttar Pradesh (1), Rajasthan (2), Hyderabad (5), Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Bihar and Manipur.

A total of 106 Popular Front of India (PFI) cadres were arrested yesterday in a joint operation conducted by the National Investigation Agency, Enforcement Directorate and state police forces across 15 states in the country’s multiple locations, according to the sources.

The searches were conducted in connection with five cases registered by the NIA following “continued inputs and evidence” that the PFI leaders and cadres were involved in the funding of terrorism and terrorist activities, organising training camps for providing armed training and radicalising people to join banned organisations.

A large number of criminal cases have been registered in different states over the last few years against the PFI and its leaders and members for their involvement in many violent acts.

Earlier on Thursday, the PFI and SDPI workers staged a protest in Karnataka’s Mangaluru against the raids, following which they were detained by the state police.

PFI workers sat on the road in protest against the NIA raid at the party office in Chennai.

The PFI was launched in Kerala in 2006. (ANI)

Fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram went into the sea for fishing.

Around 532 boats from Rameswaram fishing harbour left for the sea. But the boat owned by Sagear Pandian developed a mechanical snag in the Palk Bay area, the Indian-Sri Lankan sea border. (ANI)

Tamil Nadu transgender

Tamil Nadu transgender sets sights high

was empowered by the landmark 2014 Supreme Court judgement that gave transgenders the right to decide their own gender. Sharmila has become a lawyer, and wants to be a judge next. Her story:    “I will work my way up the ladder and one day want to become a judge,” says Satyashri Sharmila, the first transsexual from Tamil Nadu to enrol as an advocate with the Bar Council.

With immense satisfaction, Sharmila says enrolling as a lawyer as a trans person with the Bar Council was a milestone she had been trying to achieve for over a decade now. Now that she has done that, she says she will happily set her sights on moving forward.

Sharmila is among the over 400 law graduates who enrolled as lawyers yesterday with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry here. “Now I am 36. I will work hard, learn the ropes and am confident that one day I will become a judge,” she said, adding she was however undecided about which branch of law to pursue.

Sharmila, who completed her course in law from the Central Law College in Salem way back in 2007, says she could have enrolled right after graduation in 2008, but chose to wait as she wanted to be on the rolls only as a trans person. In the enrolment event, Justice P N Prakash said it was his desire to see a transsexual as a judge of a High Court during his lifetime.

On her choice of law,Sharmila says she was not particular about pursuing it in the beginning. It was her father, however, who wanted her to do well in her studies. “It was NALSA (National Legal Services Authority vs Union Of India and Others, 2014) judgement by the Supreme Court which gave me courage and hope and the time has finally come to get attired in the robes of a lawyer.

” In that landmark judgement, the apex court upheld a transgender’s right to decide his or her gender and directed the Central and State governments to grant legal recognition to such choices and suitably identify them as “male, female or third gender.” Born in backward Ramanathapuram district to middle class parents, Sharmila grew up in Paramakudi as Udayakumar and did her schooling and graduation in Corporate Secretaryship in the same town.

During the 10 year period after her graduation, she took up various assignments, including working for an NGO, besides for the transgender community. On her identity, she says, “all along I had felt that I am a woman and am happy to be a trans person.” Sharmila now lives at Pukkathurai Natarajpuram village, a transgender neighbourhood near suburban Chengelpet.

She says she is “very happy to render legal services to my sisters here.” On Sharmila’s enrolment, transgender rights activist Banu says it is a big achievement which will be a big motivating factor for other transgenders pursuing legal studies. Bar Council of India co-chairman S Prabakaran said the legal profession was open to all people. A career in law is ideal for the marginalised sections to grow and help others, he said. — PTI
