Hundreds Turn Out For Last Rites Of Kashmiri Pandit

Hundreds of Kashmiris turned out for the last rites of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma, who was shot dead by terrorists at a marketplace in Pulwama on February 26.

Terrorists attacked and fatally shot Sharma when he was on his way to the local market in Pulwama on Sunday.

Senior police officers in the Pulwama district also attended the cremation ceremony of the slain security guard.

A police officer said Sharma was shot dead by terrorists in Achan area of Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday morning.

A critically injured Sharma was rushed to a nearby hospital, with the help of locals. However, he succumbed to his bullet injuries.

Earlier, suspected terrorists had opened fire on Asif Ganai, a local, outside a mosque in the Anantnag district. The man, however, survived the attack.

Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti slammed the BJP at the Cenrre over the killing of the Kashmiri Pandit in Pulwama district.

Mufti said, “BJP has failed in protecting the lives of our minorities.”

“BJP has failed in protecting the lives of minorities here. They only use minorities to project an illusion of normalcy in the Valley,” Mufti tweeted on Sunday.

She also added that the BJP uses such incidents to put a stain on the “image of Muslims in the country”.

“BJP use these types of incidents to degrade the image of Muslims in the country. I condemn this act. This is not the behaviour of the Kashmiri people. All these acts show the failure of the government,” the PDP chief said. (ANI)

Terrorists Kill Kashmiri Pandit Guard In Pulwama

A Kashmiri Pandit working as a security guard at a bank was shot dead by terrorists in Achan area of Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday morning, a police officer said.

The deceased was identified as Sanjay Sharma, son of Kashinath Sharma, and was a bank security guard by profession, the officer added.

Security has been tightened and the entire area has been cordoned off to arrest the attackers.

The Kashmir police said that the terrorists opened fire on Sanjay Sharma, a member of Kashmiri Pandit community, while he was on his way to a local market in Achan.

The injured person was rushed to a nearby hospital, with the help of locals, for treatment, where he succumbed to bullet injuries.

There was an armed guard in his village, and further details of the incident are awaited, Kashmir police said.

Earlier four days ago, terrorists opened fire and injured a man, Asif Ganai, outside a mosque in the Anantnag district. The injured survived the injuries.

Jammu and Kashmir police had recently arrested three militant associates of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen group in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a week ago.

Kashmir police had said that the operation was commenced after receiving a tip-off on militants carrying illegal arms and ammunition. Following the input, the Kulgam police team launched a hunt near Daderkoot Alamganj to arrest them.

The police confiscated a pistol, two pistol magazines, and 13 live pistol rounds from the possession of the accused. The police said that all the accused were detained and the investigation revealed that they indulged in terror crimes and even provided support to terrorist organisations. (ANI)

Pak Provides Safe Havens To Terrorists: India At UNGA

India on Thursday exercised it’s ‘Right of Reply’ at UNGA against Pakistan and advised Islamabad to look at its track record as a state that provides safe heavens to terrorists.

At the United Nations General Assembly Eleventh Emergency Special Session, Indian Counsellor Pratik Mathur said, “Pakistan has only to look at itself and its track record as a State that harbours and provides safe havens to terrorists and does so with impunity.”
He also advised the Pakistani delegation to refer to the numerous Right of Replies that India has exercised in the past.

Mathur said, “I am taking the floor to say that India chooses this time not to respond to Pakistan’s mischievous provocations. Our advice to the delegate of Pakistan is to refer to the numerous RoRs that we have exercised in the past.”

Calling out Pakistan’s uncalled-for provocation “regrettable”, Mathur also said that after two days of intense discussions, all the members present in the UN have agreed that the path of peace can be the only path to resolve conflict and discord.

India had made listings of Pak-based terrorists a top priority of its UNSC tenure during 2021-22. A total of five names — Abdul Rehman Makki (LeT), Abdul Rauf Asghar (JeM), Sajid Mir (LeT), Shahid Mahmood (LeT), and Talha Saeed (LeT) — were submitted by India for designation under 1267 in 2022.

Each of these five names was initially placed on technical hold by one member state (China) while all other 14 members of the Council agreed to their listing.

In 2020, a Pakistani anti-terrorism court convicted Makki on one count of terrorism financing and sentenced him to prison, acccording to the US State Department.

Earlier in this month, India’s Indus Commissioner issued a notice to Pakistani counterpart to notify a date for the commencement of interstate bilateral negotiations to rectify an ongoing material breach of the Indus Water treaty, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday.

He further said that India is not involved in the process of the arbitration court.

“We have issued rather our India’s Indus Commissioner issued a notice on January 25 for modification of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 to his Pakistani counterpart. This notice was issued with the intent to provide Pakistan an opportunity to enter into government-to-government negotiations, to rectify an ongoing material breach of the treaty. We have called upon Pakistan to notify a suitable date for the commencement of interstate bilateral negotiations under article XII (3) within 90 days,” Bagchi said in response to a question on India’s notice to Pakistan for amendments to the Indus water treaty.

“I am not aware of a response from Pakistan as of yet. I am not aware of any response or comment by the World Bank,” Bagchi said.

He added by saying that India is not participating or involved in the process in any way, in response to a media query on New Delhi’s position on the arbitration court.

India issued notice to Pakistan on January 25 for modification of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of September 1960 after Islamabad’s actions adversely impinged the provisions of the treaty, according to sources. (ANI)

Rebel Attacks In Balochistan, KP Surged During 2022

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces remained under the grip of unlawful activities as Pakistan suffered close to 376 terror attacks the previous year, Dailytimes reported citing a report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) on Sunday.

The report claimed that the majority of the attacks were carried out by banned outfits such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daish (Islamic State Khorasan), and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province as a whole had an exponential surge in violence, with a corresponding rise in fatalities. Government officials, law enforcement officers, and civilians made up the majority of the victims of violence. According to the study, there were several foreigners among the civilian population.

According to the Center, after November 28 there was an extraordinary uptick in terrorist assaults in KP and Balochistan, with over twenty strikes occurring in only the month of December.

According to the report, this increased the number of fatalities in the province (including ex-FATA) to roughly 64 percent of all fatalities in the nation. Balochistan was next with 26 percent of deaths allegedly attributable to terrorism, Dailytimes reported.

During the last year alone, terrorists of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Gul Bahadur group, the Islamic State-Khurasan, and several others have reportedly conducted at least 165 terrorist attacks in KP province which is a 48 percent increase from 2020. Out of all these attacks, 115 of these were orchestrated by TTP, according to the Al Arabiya Post report.

The security establishment in Pakistan has also been facing severe issues, Al Arabiya Post reported citing a report shared during a recent meeting of Pakistan’s National Security Committee, that there are “capacity gaps” in KP’s counterterrorism department (CTD), revealing that CTD spends less than 4 percent of its budget on operations, with “zero allocation for procurement”.

The report stated that in the last year, Punjab faced only five terrorist incidents, while KP witnessed 704 such incidents. (ANI)

Shift Kashmiri Pandits To Safer Jammu Till Situation Improves: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Democratic Azad Party Chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the Kashmiri Pandit employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government should be temporarily shifted to Jammu till the situation improves in Kashmir.

Questioning the safety of the Kashmiri Pandits, he said that life is more important than employment and that the government should transfer Kashmiri Pandits to Jammu.
“The Government should transfer Kashmiri Pandit employees to Jammu and transfer them back only when the situation improves,” said Azad.

“If our government comes to power, we will transfer the Kashmiri Pandits to Jammu until the situation improves,” he said.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha had last week said that Kashmiri Pandits serving in the Valley will not be paid their salaries if they do not attend their duties.

Migrant Kashmiri Pandits have been protesting against the decision of the government claiming that they are being threatened by the terrorists and can’t go back to work.

“We are receiving death threats repeatedly, the latest being on Wednesday night. We were told that a policeman would be posted outside the place of our posting. But we do not trust the security policy of the administration,” said a Kashmiri Pandit.

“The main reason behind the protests is an insecure environment prevailing in Kashmir. We have been protesting since the day targeted killings started against the minority community in the Valley. We appeal to the government to post us at safe and secure places,” said Rohit, a Kashmiri Pandit who is participating in the protests.

Kashmir has been witnessing a series of targeted killings since October last year.

Targeted killings in Kashmir Valley were part of a larger conspiracy by terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen and other proscribed terrorist outfits to disturb the peace and democratic process established by the Panchayati Raj System in Kashmir Valley and also to create terror among the politically elected representatives, an NIA charge sheet said earlier.

The revelation came when the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in September filed the charge sheet against six accused in the targeted killing of a Sarpanch of Adoora village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam.

The counter-terror agency filed the chargesheet in a special NIA court in Jammu in the case of the targeted killing of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir by the terrorists of the proscribed terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

The case was initially registered on March 11 at Kulgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir and re-registered by the NIA on April 8.

Investigations have revealed that the handlers of the proscribed terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen operating from Pakistan, hatched a criminal conspiracy in collusion with terrorist associates and Over Ground Workers and terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen active in Kashmir Valley to carry out the targeted killing of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir, said the NIA. 8 Scribes Working For Srinagar Get Threats From Terrorist: MoS Rai

Eight journalists working for Srinagar-based local newspapers received threats through an online terror blog. Four of the media persons reportedly resigned, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha today.

MoS Home Nityanand Rai said that a case has been registered at Shergari Police Station in this regard.
“As reported, eight journalists working for Srinagar-based local newspapers received threats through the terror blog “Kashmir Fight”. Four media persons have reportedly resigned. The media persons who resigned belong to the media house “Rising Kashmir”. In this regard a case has been registered at Shergari Police Station, Srinagar,” told MoS Nityanand Rai to Rajya Sabha.

Rai further said that Jammu and Kashmir government has a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and the security situation has improved significantly in the state.

Akshay Pays Tribute To 26/11 Victims, Bravehearts

Actor Akshay Kumar on Saturday paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

Taking to Twitter, Akshay dropped a poster of people who died in the Mumbai terror attack along with a caption. He wrote, “Remembering the innocent victims and these Bravehearts of the #MumbaiTerrorAttack who laid down their lives 14 years ago on 26/11. #NeverForget.”

The ghastly attacks, which began on November 26, 2008, lasted for four days and at least 174 people, including 20 security force personnel and 26 foreign nationals, were killed and more than 300 others injured in the terror attacks carried out by 10 gunmen from Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Armed with automatic weapons and hand grenades, the terrorists targeted civilians at numerous sites in the southern part of Mumbai, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji railway station, the popular Leopold Cafe, two hospitals, and a theatre.

While most of the attacks ended within a few hours after they began at around 9.30 p.m. on November 26, the terror continued to unfold at three locations where hostages were taken – the Nariman House, where a Jewish outreach centre was located, and the luxury hotels Oberoi Trident and Taj Mahal Palace and Tower.

After the attack, it was established that the 10 terrorists had sailed to Mumbai from Pakistan’s port city, Karachi. Their voyage to Mumbai involved hijacking a fishing dingy and killing four of the five men crew, leaving one occupant to ferry them to the Mumbai coast.

In these gruesome attacks, 9 terrorists were killed and the lone survivor, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was caught and later hanged at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune in 2012.

Meanwhile, Akshay was recently seen in an action-adventure film ‘Ram Setu’ alongside Jacqueline Fernandez which got decent responses at the box office.

At Least 1 Killed, 18 Injured In Jerusalem Explosions

At least one person was killed and 18 others got injured due to twin explosions in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning.

“A horrific morning in Jerusalem. 1 killed and 18 hurt in two separate terrorist attacks in which two bombs went off at two bus stops. We mourn for the victim who was murdered and pray for the recovery of the injured,” the State of Israel’s official handle tweeted.
The first explosion occurred close to the main entrance of a bus stop in Givat Shaul, west Jerusalem around 7 am. Shortly after, a second blast took place at the Ramot junction, another entrance to the city, The Times of Israel (TOI) reported.

Israel Police forces said they are at both scenes, collecting evidence and testimonials, and taking action to locate the suspects.

Media reports said that the causes of the explosions were not immediately determined. However, police said that one of the blasts appeared to have been caused by a bomb placed in a handbag left near the bus.

The explosions came amid heightened tensions in the country, following a series of attacks that have left dozens of people in the country, TOI reported.

NIA Arrests Babbar Khalsa International Terrorist Kulwinderjit Singh

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the most-wanted terrorist Kulwinderjit Singh alias Khanpuria, who has been associated with terrorist outfits like Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF).

Having a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, Khanpuria, who was absconding since 2019, was arrested from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on November 18 when he arrived from Bangkok, the NIA said on Monday.
The arrested terrorist was involved and wanted in many terrorist cases, including the conspiracy to carry out targeted killings in Punjab. He was also involved in a bomb blast case in Connaught Place, New Delhi, and grenade attacks in other states in the nineties.

Investigations have revealed that Khanpuria is the chief conspirator and mastermind behind the conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks in India by targeting establishments connected with Dera Sacha Sauda and those belonging to police and security in Punjab.

Besides, the NIA said, Khanpuria was also targeting senior officers of Bhakra Beas Management Board, Chandigarh, with an overall objective of creating terror in Punjab and across the country. “Khanpuria had also carried out reconnaissance of some of the targets.”

The case was initially registered on May 30, 2019, at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, and re-registered by the NIA on June 27, 2019.

Khanpuria, along with his handlers and associates, based in India and abroad in different South-East Asian countries, had planned and conspired to commit terrorist attacks in India, said the NIA, adding “Khanpuria later managed to flee from India.”

“While he was based abroad, he first collided with Harmeet alias Ph.D., and now with wanted Pakistan-based ISYF Chief Lakhbir Singh Rode to use his India-based terrorist associates for targeting the identified individuals as well as establishments,” the counter-terrorism agency said.

Khanpuria was declared a proclaimed offender (PO) by the NIA Special Court, Punjab, following which, a LookOut Circular (LOCu) was issued, and a Red Corner Notice was issued by Interpol against him. The NIA had also declared a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to his arrest. He was charge-sheeted as an absconder on November 21, 2019.

Notably, four co-accused conspirators of Khanpuria had already been arrested after the recovery of arms and ammunition from their possession. (ANI)

Protecting A Terrorist Is Equivalent To Promoting Terror: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said terrorism is the most serious threat to global peace and security, and that “protecting a terrorist is equivalent to promoting terrorism”.

Shah’s remarks came while chairing the first session of the third ‘No Money for Terror’ Ministerial Conference on the ‘Global Trends in Terrorist Financing and Terrorism’ theme.
In his opening address, the Union Home Minister said “Terrorism is, undoubtedly, the most serious threat to global peace and security, but, the financing of terrorism is more dangerous than terrorism itself because the ‘Means and Methods’ of terrorism are nurtured from such funding”.

“Furthermore, the financing of terrorism weakens the economy of countries of the world,” he said.

Shah said that India condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and we believe that no reason can justify an act, such as taking innocent lives.

While expressing his sympathy for the victims of terrorist attacks all over the world, the Home Minister said that we should never compromise with this evil.

Union Home Minister said that India has been a victim of terrorism for several decades, which is sponsored from across the border.

He said that Indian security forces and civilians have had to deal with incidents of extremely serious terrorist violence perpetrated in a sustained and coordinated manner.

Shah said that the international community has a collective approach that terrorism must be condemned in all its forms, but, the forms and manifestations of terrorism are continuously evolving due to technological revolution.

The Home Minister also said terrorists and terrorist groups understand the nuances of modern weapons and information technology, and the dynamics of the cyber and financial space very well, and use them.

He said that this transformation of terrorism from “Dynamite to Metaverse” and “AK-47 to Virtual Assets” is definitely a matter of concern for the countries of the world, and, we all have to work together to formulate a common strategy against it.

Shah added that we also recognize that the threat of terrorism cannot and should not be linked to any religion, nationality, or group.

The Home Minister listed the six pillars of India’s strategy against the financing of terrorism.

“First – Strengthening the Legislative and Technological Framework, second – Creation of a Comprehensive Monitoring Framework, third – Actionable intelligence sharing mechanism and strengthening of the investigation and police operations, fourth – Provision for confiscation of property, fifth – Prevent misuse of legal entities and new technologies and sixth – Establishing international cooperation and coordination,” he said.

Shah also highlighted the role of the amendment of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in India’s fight against terrorism and its financing.

“India has strengthened the fight against terrorism and its financing, with the amendment of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, strengthening the NIA, and giving a new direction to financial intelligence. It is the result of our continuous efforts that terrorist incidents in India have come down drastically. This has also resulted in a drastic reduction in the economic losses caused by terrorism,” he said.

“We have seen that some countries protect and shelter terrorists. Protecting a terrorist is equivalent to promoting terrorism,” said the Home Minister

“We should never ignore terrorists’ safe havens or their resources. We also have to expose the double-speak of such elements who sponsor and support them.”

In the last few years, the Prime Minister said “India under PM Modi’s leadership has succeeded in cracking down on terror financing”.

To achieve the goal of ‘No Money for Terror’, Shah said the global community must understand the “Mode – Medium – Method” of Terror Financing and adopt the principle of ‘One Mind, One Approach’ in cracking down on them.

“The Darknet is being used by terrorists to spread radical content and conceal their identities.

There is an increase in the use of virtual assets like cryptocurrency. We need to understand the patterns of these Darknet activities and find their solutions,” the Home Minister said.

“The emerging trends of the illegal trade of narcotics, and the challenge of narco-terror, have given a new dimension to terror financing. In view of this, there is a need for close cooperation among all nations.” (ANI)
