US Speaker Pelosi's Husband

US Speaker Pelosi’s Husband Attacked With Hammer In San Francisco

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked with a hammer on Friday morning in their home in San Francisco.

The attacker was a male assailant who also tried to tie up Pelosi’s husband during the attack as the attacker was waiting for Nancy to arrive home, CNN reported citing sources.
The assailant was saying he was “waiting for Nancy,” stated the police.

CNN reported quoting a well-briefed source who further said that the perpetrator confronted the speaker’s husband in their San Francisco home shouting, “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?”

According to a statement released by the Democratic speaker’s office Paul Pelosi, 82, is currently hospitalized and is expected to make recovery.

Speaker Pelosi is flying back to San Francisco with her family to be with her husband, according to a source familiar told CNN on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in an official statement condemned the attack against Paul Pelosi and said that the prayers are with Speaker Pelosi’s whole family.

She further stated that US President Biden is also praying for Paul Pelosi and also had a morning call with House Speaker Pelosi to express his support after this horrible attack.

“The President is praying for Paul Pelosi and for Speaker Pelosi’s whole family. This morning he called Speaker Pelosi to express his support after this horrible attack. He is also very glad that a full recovery is expected. The President continues to condemn all violence and asks that the family’s desire for privacy be respected,” the official statement read.

The US speaker is second in line to become the US President after the Vice President in case the President is incapacitated.

Analysts are saying that given the fact that Pelosi is second in the order of succession it is strange that her house had no security and an intruder could enter her San Francisco house without any trouble. (ANI)

US President Donald Trump

Trump: Very Happy About Musk’s Twitter Takeover

Former US President Donald Trump lauded Twitter’s new ownership under billionaire Elon Musk on Friday.

“I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” Trump said in a Truth Social post following Elon Musk’s completed takeover.
On Thursday night, Musk fired a number of Twitter executives including CEO Parag Agrawal and Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s longtime head of legal, policy, and trust, who was in charge of significant account decisions, including suspending Trump.

The former president said Twitter “must now work hard to rid itself of all of the bots and fake accounts that have hurt it so badly. It will be much smaller, but better.”

Elon Musk said that the social media company “will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.” That means suspended accounts like those held by former President Donald Trump won’t immediately return to Twitter.

“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” Musk added.

On Thursday, Musk wrote in a posted note to Twitter advertisers that “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences! In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all.”

Hours after news of Musk’s takeover broke, a fake statement from Trump began circulating online.

“Congratulations to Elon Musk on his purchase of Twitter. Many people are saying that change was needed, as the old management was too concerned with the woke agenda,” the fabricated statement read.

“I have been told that my account will be back up and running on Monday — we will see. Happy to be able to engage with an African-American-owned business!”

In July, in a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk who had long been showing his interest to buy Twitter terminated the deal. The Tesla CEO did so by alleging that Twitter violated their mutual purchase agreement by misrepresenting the number of spam and fake bot accounts on its platform.

After Musk put out the deal termination announcement, the market saw a sharp decline. Later, Twitter sued Musk accusing him of using bots as a pretext to exit a deal. (ANI)

Russia An Acute Threat, China Only A Competitor: US Defence Secy

The US on Thursday (local time) described “Russia as an acute threat” and China as “the only competitor” at the Department of Defence National Defence Strategy.

At a conference at the Pentagon detailing the DoD National Defence Strategy, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “And we remain vigilant against the ongoing threat from global terrorist networks–as well as from climate change, pandemics, and other dangers that don’t respect borders. At the same time, the NDS bluntly describes Russia as an acute threat. And we chose the word ‘acute’ carefully”.

“As the President’s National Security Strategy notes, the PRC is the only competitor out there with both the intent to reshape the international order and, increasingly, the power to do so,” added Austin.

The Defence Department for the first time released the public versions of three strategic documents — the National Defence Strategy, the Nuclear Posture Review and the Missile Defence Review — together after having developed both the classified and unclassified versions of all three in conjunction with one another.

“I am pleased to announce that the Department is publicly releasing our unclassified National Defence Strategy. And this strategy nests beneath President Biden’s National Security Strategy, which was released earlier this month,” said Austin.

Producing the documents together, Austin ensured tight linkages between DOD strategy and resources.

“By weaving these documents together, we help ensure that the entire department is moving forward together, matching our resources to our goals,” Austin said. “The strength and combat credibility of the joint force remains central to integrated deterrence.”

The 2022 National Defence Strategy, or NDS, places a primary focus on the need to sustain and strengthen US deterrence against China. It also advances a focus on collaboration with a growing network of US allies and partners on shared objectives.

In addition to addressing both China and an increase in the importance of partnerships, the NDS also takes into account the challenges posed by Russia — especially considering its invasion of Ukraine — along with threats posed by North Korea, Iran and violent extremist organizations. The NDS also includes a focus on challenges to security, such as pandemics and climate change, read the US DoD press release.

“And above all, the NDS demands even deeper investments in our people. They will always be this department’s most valuable resource, and the bedrock of American security,” said Austin.

The US Defence Secretary also laid out four top-level defence priorities the department must pursue.

They include: Defending the homeland, paced to the growing multi-domain threat posed by China; Deterring strategic attacks against the United States, allies, and partners; Deterring aggression while being prepared to prevail in conflict, when necessary; prioritizing the challenge posed by China in the Indo-Pacific region the Russia challenge in Europe and Building a resilient joint force and defence ecosystem.

He also provided three ways to advance those priorities. These include integrated deterrence, campaigning, and the building of an enduring advantage.

“First, we’re seamlessly integrating our deterrence efforts to make a basic truth crystal-clear to any potential foe. And the truth is: The costs of aggression against the United States or our allies and partners far outweigh any conceivable gains. Second, the NDS emphasizes the day-to-day work of campaigning. That means conducting and sequencing military activities that, over time, shift the security environment in our favour. And third, we’re building enduring advantages to further strengthen the foundations of our defence enterprise,” said Austin.

With the US nuclear capability remaining the “ultimate backstop” for strategic deterrence, the secretary said the department plans to continue modernization efforts on the nuclear triad. The fiscal 2023 budget request, for instance, includes some USD34 billion to sustain and modernize nuclear forces, he said.

The budget request also includes more than USD 56 billion for air-power platforms and systems, more than USD 40 billion to maintain US dominance at sea, and nearly USD 13 billion to support and modernize land forces, added the press release.

“Integrated deterrence isn’t just about steps that we take on our own,” he said. “It also means working even more closely with our unparalleled network of allies and partners to deter aggression in the region after region,” he said.

In the Indo-Pacific region, he said, that’s evident with Australia, UK, US, or AUKUS agreement, and in the trilateral cooperation agreement with Japan and Korea.

Across the Atlantic, he said, partnerships that support integrated deterrence efforts include NATO and the recently created Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which helps support Ukraine’s self-defence goals.

A campaigning, Austin said, means conducting and sequencing the military activities which over time shift the security environment in favour of the United States, said the release.

“It means working to limit and disrupt malign activities by our competitors,” he said. “We’re building and exercising the forces we’ll need in a crisis or a conflict, including requesting USD 135 billion in last year’s budget to further invest in our readiness.”

To build an enduring advantage for the United States, Austin said, the department is working to further strengthen the foundations of the defence enterprise, added the release.

“Innovation is central here,” he said. “Last year, for instance, we established the Rapid Defence Experimentation Reserve, which funds different parts of the department to work together to fill critical joint warfighting gaps. And our fiscal year 2023 budget request included more than USD 130 billion for research, development, testing and evaluation — that’s the largest R&D budget number in DOD history.” (ANI)

IT Raids Azam Khan

Azam Khan Disqualified From UP Assembly Membership

SP leader and Rampur MLA Azam Khan were on Friday disqualified from the membership of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, as per the Office of UP Assembly Speaker, a day after he was sentenced to 3 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 2,000 in a hate speech case of 2019.

Khan has been sentenced to three years in prison in a 2019 hate speech case by the Rampur District court, and he lost his Assembly membership as his eventual imprisonment term is longer than two years.
The SP leader lost his MLA post because as per the 2013 Supreme Court judgment if an MLA, MLC, or MP is convicted in a criminal case and gets jailed for a minimum of two years then he/she loses membership of the house with immediately effect.

Azam Khan won the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Rampur (UP) but he vacated this seat after being elected to the UP state assembly in March 2022. The SP leader had won the 2022 assembly election from Rampur while being lodged in Sitapur jail.

Earlier on Thursday, the Samajwadi Party leader and two other accused were sentenced to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs 2,000 in a hate speech case filed against him over his speech against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. However, he has been granted bail and given a week’s time to appeal against the sentence.

A case was registered against Khan in Rampur in April 2019 for allegedly making provocative remarks against the Uttar Pradesh CM and the then District Magistrate of Rampur, Aunjaneya Kumar Singh.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, Khan had used provocative remarks against the then Rampur district magistrate Aunjaneya Kumar Singh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Congress candidate Sanjay Kapoor.

Earlier this year, Azam Khan was released from Sitapur district jail, a day after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in an alleged case of cheating.

The SP leader was also granted bail in a cheating case lodged at the police station in Rampur.

Khan has been lodged in Sitapur jail since February 2020 as many cases are registered against him.

Earlier, in a big relief to the SP leader, the Allahabad High Court on October 1, 2022, had put his arrest on hold. The matter pertains to the disappearance of machines used for construction in 2017 for which a case was registered on September 19, this year.

A person named Baqur Khan brought the case to the fore. The missing machinery including bulldozers, carriers, and other materials was later found on the premises of Muhammad Ali Jauhar University. The Allahabad HC also sought a reply from the Uttar Pradesh government on this matter.

On May 10, 2022, the Allahabad HC granted interim bail to Khan in a case related to wrongful possession of Waqf Board property.

Azam Khan began his political career by winning the 1980 assembly election on Janata Party (Secular) ticket from Rampur. He has served as a minister in both Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav governments. (ANI)

Chemical Spray In Yamuna

BJP’s Parvesh In Verbal Spat With DJB Over Chemical Spray In Yamuna

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Parvesh Verma on Friday was seen getting into a heated argument with a Delhi Jal Board official and called him “Besharam” (shameless) and “ghatiya aadmi” (cheap person) after the latter, the leader claimed, did not stop spraying chemicals in the Yamuna river ahead of Chhath Puja.

To deal with the problem of foam formation on the surface of the Yamuna River near Delhi, the DJB officials are resorting to spraying the river water surface with chemicals.
Verma visited the site to inspect the preparations for the puja and was seen indulging in a heated argument with the official in a video.

Speaking to ANI, the BJP MP asked who will be responsible if people who will take a dip into the river (during Chhath Puja) fall sick or die.

“On visiting Chhath ghat near Yamuna today, we found containers with poisonous chemicals there. This chemical will be put into the river. Tomorrow the people will take a dip into the water here. I said to him that you are putting so many chemicals into the water. If anyone of them died or fell sick or developed a skin disease, who will be responsible? They said that they do not know anything, they have been ordered by the Delhi government and have to do it,” he said.

Verma said that asked the official to show the order of the Delhi government which guaranteed that the chemicals will be of no harm to the devotees, however, he denied having any such order.

“I repeatedly asked him not to put chemicals into the Yamuna river. I told him to show me the order which states that the chemicals will not be harmful, but they did not show me anything,” he said.

The MP said that if had to speak in this manner for the benefit of the people of Delhi, he will do it.

“How can I not be angered if officials don’t listen to me in this matter? If I have to talk in this manner for the benefit of the people of Delhi, then I have no problem, it’s right,” he said.

Ahead of the Chhath Puja, which is usually celebrated on the river banks in northern India, the DJB officials sprayed chemicals on the surface near Kalindi Kunj, with the aim of removing the toxic foam owing to a high level of pollutants in the water.

This year’s auspicious occasion began on October 28 with the traditional Nahay Khay ceremony, which was held on the first day of the four-day festival. Nahay Khay signifies the beginning of the four-day Chhath festival. Six days after Diwali, the auspicious festival begins.

Taking a ritualistic bath in holy water is considered an essential part of the rituals centered around Chhath puja. During this festive season, devotees residing in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad head towards the Yamuna river to take a dip in its waters and seek blessings from the Sun God for a healthy, happy, and prosperous life.

The core ritual around the festival involves devotees observing a fast and worshipping Chhathi Maiya to express gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on Earth. Chhath is considered to be the only Vedic festival dedicated to Surya (the Sun God).

This ancient Hindu Vedic festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh in India and Nepal. (ANI)

26/11 Will Never Ever Be Forgotten, Says Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar paid tribute to victims of the 26/11 Mumbai attack as part of the two-day anti-terrorism meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) starting Friday.

The first segment of the Special Meeting of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee is at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai today. A wreath-laying ceremony also took place at one of the main sites that saw the dastardly terror attacks of 26/11/2008.
Speaking at the UNSC meeting at the Taj hotel, Jaishankar said, “18 members of the Indian Police Forces, 12 members of the Taj hotel staff, and security were martyred in the line of duty.” “As we pay tribute to them at the 26/11 memorial site, we salute their valor and their resolve,” he said.

In his speech, Jaishankar pointed out that it was not just “an attack on Mumbai, it was an attack on the international community.” “Nations of specific countries were identified before being murdered. As a result, the commitment of each and every member state of the UN to combat terrorism stood publicly challenged,” he said.

Addressing the UN members, the external affairs minister said, “Together, we should send out the message that the international community will never give up on holding terrorists accountable and delivering justice. 26/11 will never ever be forgotten.”

On November 26, 2008, ten terrorists trained by the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) carried out a series of coordinated attacks against multiple targets in Mumbai including the Taj Mahal hotel, the Oberoi hotel, the Leopold Cafe, the Nariman (Chabad) House, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station, killing 166 people.

The UN CTC meeting, under New Delhi’s chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), is taking place in Mumbai and New Delhi on October 28 and October 29, respectively.

Addressing a special press briefing on the UNSC CTC, Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said, “There is no better place to open the series of important discussions than Mumbai, a city, which reflects the best of India in terms of its economic development in recent years. The fact that the CTC has agreed to begin its deliberations in Mumbai is a message in itself.”

Verma further said, “Overarching theme would be ‘Countering the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.’ It will begin with a tribute to victims of terrorism,” said Verma. The meeting will reportedly focus on the use of the internet, payment mechanism, and drones by terrorists.

Secretary (West) Verma said the larger purpose of this unprecedented meeting in India of the Counter-Terrorism Committee in Mumbai would resonate with the rest of the world. “…Because in 2008, what happened was an attack on what would be the identity of India in the financial and commercial space city,” he said.

Speaking at the same press conference, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj said that there is a great need to speak with a united voice and with a common voice, as we counter the scourge and menace. (ANI)
