Israel Aviv Attacker

Israel: Tel Aviv Attacker Shot Dead By Officers

Tel Aviv Police on Friday night shot dead the terrorist who carried out a car-ramming and shooting attack that resulted in the death of one person while injuring six others, reported The Times of Israel (ToI).

According to police, an officer at a nearby gas station heard a commotion after the terrorist rammed into people at Charles Clore Park on the Tel Aviv waterfront.
“The policeman approached the car together with the Tel Aviv municipality inspectors, and identified that the driver was trying to reach for the weapon he had in his possession,” said police, reported ToI.

“The policeman and the inspectors neutralized the driver and killed him,” police added.

Tel Aviv police chief Amichai Eshed says the suspected attacker in a Tel Aviv ramming drove onto a bicycle lane in a “clear” manner and hit a number of people in the pedestrian area.

A car rammed into a group of people near a popular seaside park before flipping over, police said.

Police are looking into the attacker’s motives and background, and are searching the area for evidence, Eshed says in a statement to the media.

Eshed said that the area has been closed off, reported ToI.

Eshed warns against misinformation circulating online. Multiple reports say the suspected attacker was from the Israeli town of Kfar Qasem. Channel 12 reports the suspect worked in Tel Aviv, reported ToI.

The Magen David Adom emergency service says all of the victims of today’s terror attack in Tel Aviv are tourists.

Medics have declared the death of a man around the age of 30. Earlier reports said the fatality was an Italian visitor, reported ToI.

The attack came against the backdrop of heightened tensions after Israeli airstrikes on Palestinian terrorist targets in both Lebanon and Gaza, as well as a shooting attack in the occupied West Bank that killed two Israelis. That followed days of violence and unrest in Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site, the compound of the Al-Aqsa mosque in the Old City.

Moreover, in a shooting in the northern West Bank on Friday killed two Israeli-British sisters and seriously injured their mother, adding to an already tense atmosphere in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories during a holiday week marred by violence, reported The Washington Post.

The sisters, 21 and 16, lived in Efrat, a settlement just south of Jerusalem, according to a statement from Oded Revivi, the mayor of Efrat. Their mother, who is in her 40s, was injured in the attack, Revivi said in a voice message. They were driving in a car in the Jordan Valley, while the rest of the family drove ahead in a separate car.

The family, which has lived in Efrat for two decades, was on its way to a holiday gathering in the north when the attack occurred, Revivi said.

Police have not yet released the names of the victims. The UK Foreign Office confirmed Friday the sisters held British citizenship, in addition to Israeli, reported The Washington Post.

“We are saddened to hear about the deaths of two British-Israeli citizens and the serious injuries sustained by a third individual,” a spokesperson for the office said in a statement. “The UK calls for all parties across the region to de-escalate tensions.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to catch the attackers – saying it’s “just a matter of time… until we settle the score”.

“Our forces are operating in the field in hot pursuit of the terrorists. It is only a matter of time, and not much time, that we will hold them accountable,” he said.

Meanwhile, Russia called for multilateral talks to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reported TASS.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference after talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday said that Moscow is in favor of resuming multilateral negotiations to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which would involve the Quartet on the Middle East and the Arab League.

“We have long been advocating to resume the multilateral process for the Israeli-Palestinian settlement, as there is a universally recognized collective mediator, which is the Quartet comprising Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations,” he said.

“It is in this very framework, with the mandatory involvement of the Arab League, that we can, in practice and with hope for some kind of result, search for agreements that should be based on the principles of the two-state solution, as they are formulated in documents,” added Lavrov.

Lavrov pointed out that the Quartet has not been convened for some time and its meetings are being blocked by the United States, reported TASS. (ANI)

Buffoons imran

Dangerous Ruling Buffoons Making A Mockery Of Pak: Imran

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Friday expressed his concern about the government’s actions, stating that they are making a mockery of Pakistan abroad.

“The dangerous ruling buffoons don’t realise the damage they are doing to Pak’s image abroad by sham FIRs & absurd sedition charges against a former PM for using terms ‘Dirty Harry’ & ‘psycopath’! They are making a mockery of Pakistan,” tweeted Khan.
He also warned that foreign investors may be getting a troubling message after the Pakistani government’s decision to not accept the Supreme Court’s decision in the Punjab polls delay case.

“Also, what msg is being sent to foreign investors when govt itself is not accepting SC decisions? Investors need security of contracts & that means faith in judicial system. What confidence can they have when govt itself casting aside SC orders? This happens in a banana republic,” he tweeted.

Khan’s comments came after the federal government demanded that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial step down, claiming that his position had become “controversial” after Justice Athar Minallah’s note in the case.

Justice Minallah stated that the Supreme Court’s suo motu notice over the delay in the announcement of provincial assembly elections was dismissed by a majority 4-3 ruling.

A three-member SC bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar had announced the verdict on the PTI’s petition challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) move to postpone the Punjab Assembly polls till October 8.

This ruling was rejected by the government, who labeled it a “minority verdict”, with the National Assembly also passing a resolution against the top court.

The government’s refusal to accept the Supreme Court’s decision has raised concerns about the state of country’s democracy and judicial system.

The PTI chief also claimed that the sedition cases filed against him and the imprisonment of senior party leader Ali Amin Gandapur are attempts to undermine their party’s ability to contest elections.

“Sedition cases against me – this is 144th case against me- and our senior ldr Ali Amin along with his imprisonment, are simply attempts to undermine our Party’s ability to fight elections. This is all part of London Plan in which Nawaz Sharif was given assurances that PTI would be crushed before elections through fake cases & imprisonment of its leadership,” he tweeted.

Imran Khan has been pushing for assembly elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces as part of a campaign to force an early general election that he has waged since being forced from office a year ago after losing a vote of confidence, reported The Express Tribune.

However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has rejected Imran Khan’s call for an early general election and his government had backed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) delay in the votes in the two provinces to Oct 8.

The commission cited a lack of resources and the government agreed, saying it was not possible to organise the provincial elections while the country was struggling with an economic crisis and with a general election due around early October anyway.

But the Supreme Court ruled that the delay was illegal and voting in the two provinces should be held between April 30 and May 15, reported The Express Tribune. (ANI)

PIB Fact Check Chandrashekhar

No Mention Of PIB Fact Check: Union Min Chandrashekhar

After a controversy arose over the Centre’s notification on Thursday that fake news about the Union government would be forcibly taken down and the agency that would declare content as fake news would be the Press Information Bureau, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday clarified that the rules notified yesterday do not mention “PIB Fact Check”.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s response came against the backdrop of various reports, claiming that as per the amended Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 social media platforms and other intermediaries will now have to make sure that “fake news” articles about the Centre, declared as such by PIB, are taken down from their platforms once alerted.
The minister said that the rules do not suggest that the agency declaring fake news will be PIB Fact Check.

“The rules do not at all suggest that it’s going to be PIB Fact Check. I think some of the grey area, or indeed the misapprehension, comes from the fact that the original draft of the rule that went for consultation talked about PIB Fact check. The rules that were notified yesterday do not mention PIB Fact Check,” Chandrashekhar told ANI.

He said, “So we have yet to take a decision on whether it will be a new organization that has trust and credibility associated with it, or do we take an old organization and repurpose it to build trust and credibility in terms of a fact-checking mission.”

Earlier on Thursday, the Centre issued notifications regarding amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, related to online gaming and spread of false and misleading information regarding government business.

As per the amended rules, it has been made obligatory on the part of intermediaries to make reasonable effort to not host, publish or share any online game that can cause the user harm, or that has not been verified as a permissible online game by an online gaming self-regulatory body/bodies designated by the Central Government.

The intermediary will also have to ensure that no advertisement or surrogate advertisement or promotion of an online game that is not a permissible online game, is hosted on its platform.

Apart from it, the amended rules now also make it obligatory on the intermediaries to not to publish, share or host fake, false or misleading information in respect of any business of the Central Government.

“These fake, false or misleading information will identified by the notified Fact Check Unit of the Central Government. it is to be noted that the existing IT rules already required the intermediaries to make reasonable efforts to not host, publish or share any information which is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature,” the IT ministry said in a press note.

“The rules already cast an obligation on intermediaries to make reasonable efforts to not host, publish or share any information which is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature,” it added. (ANI)

Amit Shah Azamgarh

Azamgarh Used To Be Epicentre Of Terrorism Before 2017: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on Friday, hit out at the previous governments, saying that the district was called the “epicentre” of terrorism before 2017.

Alleging that Azamgarh’s image was destroyed by the previous governments, Amit Shah said that the Bhartiya Janata Party government in the state led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has led it to a new era.
“I still remember, when I was Gujarat Home Minister and a blast happened in Ahmedabad and when Police were arresting culprits, the mastermind behind the blast was caught from Azamgarh. Azamgarh’s image was destroyed by previous governments,” Shah said while addressing a public rally in Azamgarh.

He further said that Azamgarh used to face the problem of law and order, but now it is the centre of development now.

He further said that electricity used to be made available for 24 hours only during the month of Ramzan.

“I have stayed here in Uttar Pradesh during elections and there was no electricity in villages. People used to get 24-hour electricity only during the month of Ramzan. Now, the BJP government in the state has led to a new era after ensuring electricity round the clock,” the Union Minister said.

Earlier in Kaushambi, Shah took a jibe at Congress and said that it is not the democracy that is in danger, but it is casteism and dynastic politics (‘parivarwad’).

Saying that the people would not forgive the opposition parties for disrupting Parliament proceedings over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha based on legislation brought by the Congress-led UPA government.

“The country will not forgive opposition parties for disrupting Parliament proceedings over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification… Democracy is not in danger, it is casteism and dynastic politics (‘parivarwad’) which are in danger,” Amit Shah said addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Kaushambi Mahotsav.

Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Kaushambi Festival 2023 with CM Yogi Adityanath. On this occasion, both the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, were also present.

“Never in the history of independent India has the budget session ended without one proper discussion. The opposition members didn’t let Parliament function, the reason was Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a member. Rahul insulted India abroad. The people of the country see and understand this as well. Once again, the Modi government will cross 300,” he added. (ANI)
