Virender Sehwag Rohit Sharma World Cup 2023

Sehwag Picks Rohit As Leading Run-Getter In WC 2023

Former India opener Virender Sehwag predicted that current Team India skipper Rohit Sharma will finish ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 as the leading run-getter.

India will meet Australia to begin their Cricket World Cup campaign in Chennai on October 8.

Sehwag highlighted that openers will have many opportunities to shine during the next ODI World Cup because of the batting-friendly circumstances in India.

In a video posted to the ICC’s Instagram account, Sehwag was asked to guess who would score the most runs at the 2023 World Cup. He selected Rohit and said, “India has got good wickets, so I think openers will get good opportunities. If I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I am Indian and I should pick an Indian, so Rohit Sharma.”

Sehwag praised the Indian opener and stated that the World Cup frequently brought out his best.

“When the World Cup comes, his energy level, his performance goes up. So, I am sure [he will do well]. And this time, he’s the captain also. I am sure that he will make a difference and will score lots of runs,” Sehwag added.

The 2019 ODI World Cup was played in England, and Rohit scored the most runs overall. In nine games, he scored 648 runs at an average of 81, including up to five hundreds.

In 244 ODI appearances overall, the 36-year-old has scored 9837 runs at an average of 48.69, with 30 hundred and 48 half-centuries.

electricity bills pakistan

Pak: Massive Protests Over Inflated Electricity Bills

Following the surge in electricity bills carrying seven different levies, caused widespread protest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reported The News International.

The people participating in the protest blocked roads and torched the fresh bills. They said they were shocked to see multiple taxes included in their bills and unprecedentedly high rates for consumed units.

They torched the bills and vowed not to pay the charges until these were brought down to an affordable level, The News International reported.

These protests broke out in several parts of Peshawar. The angry power consumers carried their power bills received from Peshawar Electricity Supply Company for the month of July and came out on the streets in the provincial capital.

Additionally, they were holding placards with slogans against the Wapda, Pesco and the Pakistan government.

One of the protests was seen at the Anam Sanam Chowk in Gulbahar area. People protesting over there blocked the square for traffic to enter. Since the traffic was disrupted, people had to face difficulty in reaching their destinations.

The protestors condemned the rise in power tariff and said it was an all-time high, according to The News International. Adding to this, they said that seven different types of taxes and levies have been added to their electricity bills, including Withholding Income Tax.

The consumers also stressed that high inflation has made their lives miserable and the current rising electricity charges had left them shocked.

They also warned of using electricity without paying bills if the government did not take back the unprecedented hike in power charges, reported The News International.

Furthermore, the protestors complained that their jobs and businesses had been affected and their lives had become costlier. They added that the government was only interested in its own luxuries instead of providing relief to the masses.

They also said that the government officials in all the departments were enjoying free electricity and were heavily misusing electricity.

One of the protestors said, “I visited several offices today in the Wapda House, police department, district administration and Civil Secretariat and found air conditioners in every office whether anyone was present in the office or not. We cannot even think of switching on one air conditioner at home for the fear of heavy bills.”

“I have consumed only 200 electricity units and my current bills have reached Rs25,000, said Muhammad Yaqoob, a local resident, adding that it was beyond his capacity to pay the bills within due time.

Another citizen Muhammad Zubair Khan, from the Qamber area of Mingora, said his monthly salary was PKR 25,000 and Pesco had sent him a bill for Rs 27,000. He wondered how he would pay the power bill with his limited resources.

Abdul Rahim, president of All Malakand Traders Federation said, “We will launch an agitation in the entire province. The rulers should not put more burden on the shoulders of poor people, rather they should cut down spending.”

As the protests increased over the hiked power tariff bills against the power companies, the Islamabad Electric Power Supply Company (Iesco) asked the police to provide security to its offices reported the News International.

Earlier this week, several people gathered at the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Rawalakot and torched thousands of electricity bills, Dawn reported.

The demonstration brushed aside a notification issued by the PoK government on Monday in its desperate attempt to defuse the situation.

The protest started over 150 days ago in the town to record protest against the “cruel electricity taxes, unavailability and increase in the prices of wheat flour and some other issues of public concern said the report.

A seven-member committee, comprising four cabinet members and three civil servants, was also formed by the government to look into the issue and give recommendations for its ultimate solution reported Dawn.

However, angry protesters in Rawalakot and elsewhere rejected what they called the “lollipop” by the government and made it clear that their agitation would continue as per their calendar until all unnecessary and cruel taxes were withdrawn and the tariff was brought on par with Gilgit-Baltistan.

Participants of the rally in Rawalakot, some of whom were also carrying placards, chanted slogans and torched around 7,000 electricity bills at Kutchery Chowk, reported Dawn. (ANI)

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge

Kharge, Owaisi Criticise BJP Over Video Of UP Teacher Asking To Slap

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held “hate-filled politics of the BJP-RSS” responsible while reacting to an incident seen in an undated viral video where a private school school teacher in Muzaffarnagar was instructing children in her class to slap their Muslim classmate.

The viral video goes on to show children taking turns striking the crying Muslim student with the teacher looking on. The video sparked outrage online after it was circulated.

Taking to the social media platform X Kharge said, “The manner in which a teacher get a child thrashed by other children on the basis of religious discrimination at a school in UP is a disturbing result of the hate-filled politics of the BJP-RSS.”

Kharge also alleged such incidents were tarnishing countries image globally. “Such incidents tarnish our global image. This is against the constitution,” said Kharge in his post.

“The poison of the divisive thinking of the ruling party has spread so much in the society that one hand an educator, Tripta Tyagi, teaching religious hatred to children since childhood, while a RPF jawan, Chetan Kumar, whose work is to provide security, is killing innocent people on the name of religion,” added Kharge in his post.

Kharge further said letting go any culprit in such is crimes is crime against the country. “Any kind of religious fanaticism and violence is against the country and to spare the guilty is a crime against the country,” Kharge said.

The incident also drew crtiticism from Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi who posted on X ” The video from Muzaffarnagar where a teacher is asking her students to slap a Muslim boy is a product of the last 9 years. The message being drilled into the minds of little children is that one can beat up & humiliate a Muslim without any repercussions….”

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh has assured that the Police are investigating the incident and action will be taken once the investigation was complete.

Reacting to the incident the Minister said ” In the state everyone has the right to the same level of education and ensuring this is the job and the priority of our government. The Police is probing the incident and further action will be taken once the investigation is complete.”

According to the Muzaffarnagar police, they have seen the viral video where a woman teacher asked the students in a class to beat their classmate. “A video was received at Mansurpur police station today wherein a woman teacher asked the students of a class to beat their classmate for not learning multiplication tables. Some objectionable comments were also there in the video,” Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat said in a Video statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

“After investigating the video, it was found that the teacher was declaring that those Mohammedan students get spoiled whose mothers don’t pay attention to their studies (Jin Mohammedan baccho ki maa unke padhai par dhyan nahi deti hai, unn baccho ki padhai ka naash ho jata hai). The person recording the video also confirms this,” the Superintendent of Police said.

“Regarding this incident, the Basic Education Officer has been informed and departmental action will be taken against the woman teacher,” the Police added. (ANI)

Punjab Governor and the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Reply Or I Will Write To Prez, Punjab Govnr Warns Mann

Amid the ongoing tussle between the Punjab Governor and the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Banwarilal Purohit sent a strongly worded letter to the CM, warning him that he could recommend President’s rule in the state and also initiate criminal proceedings if his letters are not answered.

In his latest communication to Mann, Governor Purohit reiterated that he was not getting any reply from him on his previous letters, and warned him that he could send a report to the President on “failure of constitutional mechanism.”

“I am pained to point out that there is reason to believe that there is failure of the constitutional machinery in the state,” Purohit said in his letter to Mann.

Purohit further asked the Punjab CM to act before he takes this “final decision” under Article 356 of the Constitution, and Section 124 of the Indian Penal Code.

“Before I am going to take a final decision regarding sending a report to the President of India under Article 356 about the failure of the constitutional mechanism and take a decision about initiating criminal proceedings under section 124 of the IPC, I ask you to send me the requisite information sought for under my letters referred to above, as also in the matter of the steps taken by you concerning the problem of drugs in the State, failing which I would have no choice but to take action according to law and the Constitution,” the governor wrote.

A state is brought under direct rule of the Centre with the invocation of Article 356, usually after a report is sent by the Governor.

Referring to the Constitution of India, he said, “Bound as I am by the duty placed on the Governor under the Constitution to see that the administration is carried on a level which would be regarded as good, efficient, impartial and honest and that the proposals enunciated by the government are not contrary to the Law of the Land, I have therefore to advise you, warn you and ask you to respond to my letters referred to above and give me the information sought by me.”

He also reminded Mann about his August 1 letter, seeking answers to his questions, Governor Purohit said, “You have still not given the information sought by me. It appears that you are deliberately refusing to give me the information asked for by me. I regret to note here that in spite of the clear provisions of Article 167 of the Constitution of India which makes it mandatory for the chief minister to furnish all such information relating to the administration of affairs of the state as the Governor may call for, you have failed to supply the information sought by me.”

Quoting a recent report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee wherein it said that one in five people is exposed or addicted to drugs in Punjab, the Governor also mentioned the supply of drugs in the state.

“I have received reports from various agencies regarding the rampant availability and abuse of drugs in Punjab. It is common knowledge that they are available in chemist shops, a new trend is observed that they are being sold in the government-controlled liquor vends. Recent action by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Chandigarh Police have sealed 66 liquor vends in Ludhiana who are selling drugs, in a joint operation,” Purohit said, adding that these facts point out the breaking down of the law and order system in Punjab so much so that now villagers have started protesting on the streets in large numbers and decided to set up their own village defence committees to protect themselves from drugs.

“Please send a report concerning the action taken by you in the matter of these drugs to my office immediately,” he directed.

The Governor has also reminded Mann of a Supreme Court judgment dated February 28, 2023, in which the apex court “observed that both the chief minister and the governor are constitutional functionaries who have specified roles and obligations earmarked by the Constitution and that the governor has a right to seek information from the chief minister in terms of Article 167(b) on matters relating to the administration of the affairs of the state and proposals for legislation”. Chandrayaan-3 ISRO

Chandrayaan-3: Pragyan Rover Walks On Moon

A video of the Pragyan rover rolling out of Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander and walking on the lunar surface was released by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday.

From the video released by ISRO, the Indian national flag pasted on its back is visible as the rover began its ‘moonwalk’ on the lunar surface.

Previously, ISRO released visuals of the August 23 soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lander Vikram on the moon’s surface, clicked by Chandrayaan-2’s Orbiter High-Resolution Camera.

Upon landing, the lander and the rover will operate and do their set tasks for one lunar day. One day on the Moon is equal to 14 days on Earth.

India took a giant leap on Wednesday evening as the Chandrayaan-3 lander module successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole, making it the first country to have achieved the historic feat and bringing to an end the disappointment over the crash landing of the Chandrayaan-2, four years ago.

Overall, India became the fourth country – after the US, China, and Russia – to have successfully landed on the moon’s surface.

The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota on July 14.

The stated objectives of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, were a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, the rover moving on the moon’s surface, and in-situ scientific experiments.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic brought an unforeseen delay to the mission’s progress. The approved cost of Chandrayaan-3 is Rs 250 crores (excluding launch vehicle cost).

Chandrayaan-2 mission was only “partially successful” since the lander lost contact after a hard landing, but the ISRO earlier this week successfully established two-way communication between the Chandrayaan-3 lander module and the still orbiting Chandrayaan-2 orbiter. (ANI)
