BJP Calls Meeting Of State CMs, Deputy CMs Over 2024 Polls

The central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a meeting of chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of BJP-ruled states on June 11 in New Delhi, said a party source.

According to the party sources, the agenda of the meeting is likely on upcoming assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha and Union Minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda and BL Santosh along with state organisation secretaries will be present in the meeting.

On Wednesday JP Nadda held a special ‘Tiffin Meeting’ with party workers in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar, and instructed party workers to remain grounded and find different ways to win the hearts of people.

“At the tiffin meet BJP chief JP Nadda gave an important mantra to party new and old workers and said to party workers that they have to remain grounded and find different ways to win people’s hearts,” a BJP source told ANI.

On the occasion, JP Nadda urged the party workers to remain self-disciplined and be united with each other. “BJP chief told workers that self-discipline is very required for all of us to leave arrogance, and make sure your accountability is there. Don’t be small-hearted, stop showing off to others and be united with each other,” the party source said.

“Most important in any burning matter like farmer’s issue, beti bachao issue or another social issue is that if somebody or opposition try to attack or questions then everyone should try to handle such issues with the polite manner and convince them that BJP is always with society and party work for social welfare. Never be aggressive to anyone,” he added.

BJP National President Nadda also mentioned that the party must maintain its position with dignity and focus on the public welfare. “We are not only the largest party in India, even worldwide we are the largest party. We are larger than the Communist Party of China so we have to remain united and maintain our position with dignity and always work for the public welfare. Every day we should try to connect with new people. We should try to connect with different states, and people and celebrate each other festivals,” Nadda said in a meeting that lasted for 2 hours.

Cong Indulged In Corruption In All Elements Of ‘Panchtatva’: BJP

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday said that Congress party indulged in corruption in all five elements of the ‘Panchtatva’.

Addressing a press conference, the former Minister said, “What should I talk about–Adarsh scam, Bofors scam, 2G scam, Commonwealth, submarine scam to helicopter scam?”
The former minister said that our body is made up of five elements and Congress indulged in “corruption” in all five of them.

“I want to say this thing about Congress today. We talk about ‘Panchtatva’. Our body is made up of five elements: water, land, air, sky and fire. And the belief is that after death, a person gets back to these five elements,” he said.

The BJP leader added, “Congress party also believes in it with full honesty. So their leaders said that ‘Panchtatva’ can’t be respected until corruption is carried out in all five elements. And they ended up doing it. Commonwealth scam, Adarsh scam on land. They even penetrated the land with their Coal scam. 2G scam in air, helicopter scam in the sky, submarine scam in water”.

Further taking a jibe at the grand old party, he said that the Congress party’s grading is “4C”.

“There are multiple levels of grading. Congress has opted for four levels of grading for itself; cut, commission, corruption, and Congress. The Congress grading is 4C,” he added. (ANI)

‘The 40%-Govt Slogan Has Struck a Chord; It Will Be the Undoing of BJP’

Vidya Dinker, an activist based in Mangalore, Coastal Karnataka, says the issue of corruption will prevail upon the Hindutva brand of politics in this Assembly Elections. Her Views;

All elections are important but this election has a special significance – especially for those who cherish progressive, secular and constitutional values of the country. There is no doubt that the BJP has, over the years, consolidated its polarizing politics, especially in Coastal Karnataka, and parts of Dakshin Kannada. But there is a counter-discourse too which has become prevalent in the rest of the state now, especially about its corrupt regime.

The catchphrase ‘40 per cent sarkara’ is on every one’s lips. Besides, the issue of day-to-day survival for ordinary people is an issue which haunts the electoral landscape. That would decisively go against the BJP in these crucial assembly elections.

The Congress has an extremely good chance of coming back to power in the state. Tactically, the party has taken in its fold some disgruntled and high-profile leaders from the BJP which would decisively damage the BJP in many parts of the state. By such pragmatic moves, the Congress feels it would arrive at a secure number as a majority, become a winning party, and, hence, would be effectively able to ward off any poaching operation by a cash-rich BJP, as it did last time, by sabotaging an elected Congress government in Karnataka.

One crucial factor is: which way will the JD-S go? It is routinely perceived that they would back the Congress in the final instance after the results are declared. Will they?

The fact is that Siddaramaiah has had a long stint with the original JS-S, and it is well-known that he has had a troubled and uncomfortable relationship within that party. Siddaramaiah is the tallest and most inspirational leader in Karnataka, and this iconic image comes as a leader from the backward castes. He is, therefore, the natural contender for the post of chief minister once the Congress wins. However, if the Congress does not get a clear majority, what happens? In that case, will the JD-S support his candidature as CM?

ALSO READ: ‘BJP Has Failed To Polarize Karnataka Politics, Repeatedly’

It is well known that DK Shivakumar knows how to pull muscle-politics; has deep pockets; and is a good organizer. The JS-S is likely to back his candidature if there is a face-off between him and Siddaramaiah. That would be a dicey situation, indeed, for the Congress, if it falls short of a clear majority. Now, what is going on in the mind of HD Devegowda, the JD-S supremo, is hard to tell.

I personally believe that DK Shivakumar should not become the chief minister. I also think that large parts of Karnataka will go the Congress way. For instance, in Dakshin Kannada, the BJP had won seven and Congress one seat in the last assembly polls. This time the tally might be 5-3, with one BJP defector winning on a Congress ticket. So the wind will certainly shift, except in Coastal Karnataka where the BJP seems to have captured the hearts and minds of the people with its communal and hate politics.

They have succeeded in not only consolidating hate politics, but have also instilled a subconscious fear of a polarizing and vicious narrative: will your daughter come back home safe… will your cow be taken away by them… will your son be safe if we are not in power, etc. Fear-mongering has been a key to their success. They had earlier succeeded in pumping up the love jihad narrative effectively, and, thereby, captured the voter’s fancy.

Not anymore it seems. The most crucial factor is the countercurrent among the masses in Karnataka, including within the traditional support base of the BJP. This contemporary current expresses deep disgruntlement with the BJP and its government, that it has not stood with the ordinary people in the terrible pandemic and post-pandemic crisis, that ordinary people are struggling to survive, that it is corrupt, and that the 40 per cent kickback is a reality.

This belief has been embedded in each voter’s mind in the state. That would be certainly disadvantage BJP, even while the Lingayat-Vokkaliga-Backward-Muslim etc., caste-conundrum plays out as it has done always during the final phase of the polls.

Modi's Mega Bengaluru Rally

Drum Rolls, Police Presence At Modi’s Mega Bengaluru Rally Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a nearly 10-kilometre-long roadshow in Karnataka’s Bengaluru today for the second straight day as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign which entered its last leg ahead of the state Assembly elections.

People gathered in huge numbers carrying musical instruments including drums to get a glimpse of the Prime Minister who also held a nearly 26 km roadshow yesterday in the city covering nearly 13 constituencies.
Keeping PM’s roadshow in mind, security has been tightened in Bengaluru.

According to Prime Minister’s schedule, he will begin the roadshow at 10 am from the Kempegowda statue at New Tippasandra Road moving towards the HAL 2nd stage, Old Madras Road.

The roadshow will conclude at Trinity Circle by 11.30 am and with this, the two-day-long mega roadshow of PM Modi in Karnataka’s capital will come to an end.

Earlier on Saturday, Modi held a 26 kilometres road show in the city and covered most parts of South Bengaluru.

“If only words could describe what I just saw in Bengaluru! I bow to the people of this vibrant city for showering me with affection that I will cherish for my entire life,” the PM tweeted after the roadshow.

PM Modi will also address four public meetings in different parts of the state later today.

As there is a NEET exam scheduled, PM Modi will wrap up the roadshow by 11.30 am making a shorter stretch of the roadshow.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and the votes will be counted on May 13. (ANI)

PM Fulfilled Dreams Of Lord Ram Devotees: Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday hit out at Congress while highlighting the achievements of the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the double-engine government in Karnataka has worked for the benefit of the people.

The final leg of campaigning for the May 10 Assembly elections have intensified in the State.
Addressing an election rally in Belagavi, Amit Shah said PM Modi fulfilled the dreams of Lord Ram devotees by constructing the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“BJP has worked for the farmers here. We have given several benefits to the farmers. Congress insulted Savarkar. But BJP developed the Marathas and respected them…PM Modi fulfilled the dreams of Lord Ram devotees by constructing the Ram temple in Ayodhya”.

Shah said that the Congress party insulted Lord Bajrang Bali.

Congress faced a major backlash from Hindu organisations after it announced a ban on Bajrang Dal in its manifesto for the Karnataka assembly elections.

“We believe that law and Constitution are sacrosanct and cannot be violated by individuals and Organisations like Bajrang Dal, PFI or others promoting enmity or hatred, whether among majority or minority communities,” read the Congress manifesto.

Shah said that no one has trust in Rahul Gandhi’s guarantees, adding they (Congress) were defeated in states like Tripura, Assam, and Nagaland.

“It’s BJP who banned Popular Front of India,” Shah said. Previously this April, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said each vote to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will protect the State from the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).

Notably, the PFI and its many affiliates were declared ‘unlawful association’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in September last year after its involvement in violent activities came to light during investigations carried out by various state police units and national agencies.

“The BJP gave ration to the public, gave water facilities and health facilities. The double-engine government has worked for the benefit of the people,” Shah said.

Karnataka will go to Assembly polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13. (ANI)

Surjewala on Manipur

‘Kill Kharge Plot’ Launched By BJP Leaders, Claims Surjewala

Congress on Saturday alleged that a “sinister and “ugly plot” is being “hatched” by the Bharatiya Janata Party to “kill” its party President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family.

At a press conference in Bengaluru today the Congress played an audio clip, claiming that the BJP candidate from Chittapur Manikanth Rathod used derogatory language for Kharge and could be heard talking about eliminating him and his family.
“BJP leaders are now hatching a plot to murder Mallikarjun Kharge and his family members. This is now clear from the recording of BJP’s candidate from Chittapur who also happens to be the blue-eyed boy of PM Modi and chief minister Bommai,” Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said.

“I know the prime minister will remain mute, and so will Karnataka police and the Election Commission of India. But people of Karnataka will not remain mute and will give a befitting reply” he said.

Pawan Khera was also present at the Congress briefing here today.

As per a Congress statement, “the brazen hatred of the BJP towards Kannadigas is manifesting itself into a ‘Murder Plot’ to kill Karnataka’s Son of the Soil, Kharge”.

It added: “The Prime Minister and the BJP leadership remain “mute” as “assassination plot” brews”.

Manikanth Rathod Rathod was arrested on November 13, 2022 for allegedly threatening Priyank Kharge, who is the Congress candidate in Chittapur, with murder and later, released on bail.

In a media conference then, he had openly expressed his readiness to shoot down Priyank Kharge.

“Intimidated by the all-round blessing of Kannadigas being showered on the Congress Party and facing a complete rout in the ensuing assembly elections, BJP and its leadership are now resorting to hatching a “murder plot” to kill AICC President, Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family. This is clear from the audio recording of BJP Candidate from Chittapur, Manikanta Rathod, who also happens to be the ‘blue eyed boy’ of PM Narendra Modi and PM Basavaraj Bommai,” read the Congress statement.

“On May 2, BJP MLA and General Secretary, Madan Dilawar wished “death” for Mallikarjun Kharge and said “Congress President is 80 years old; God can take him away any time”. Now BJP leaders are openly plotting the assassination of Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family,” the Congress Party alleged in the statement.

As per the Congress statement, the frustration and desperation of the BJP and its leadership has now reached dangerous proportions.

“Instead of presenting a vision of development for Karnataka, the pathetic state of the BJP is that they coin one ugly polarising issue a day to somehow save their skins from answering for the 40 per cent Corruption. Even these abusive and divisive tactics of the BJP are sinking without a trace. Now, they are using assassination plots as their last weapon in their armoury,” alleged the Congress.

As per the Congress statement, “Of course, PM Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Police and the Election Commission will play “mute” on this sinister conspiracy to kill AICC President and his family”.

“The only befitting reply by 6.5 crore Kannadigas to this nefarious and sinister murder plot is to decimate this murderous thought process of the BJP in the ensuing state elections,” read the Congress statement. (ANI)

Kharge Rahul Gandhi

Don’t Put Words In His Mouth: Kharge On “Nalayak Beta” Remark

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday clarified that his son Priyank Kharge never made the “nalayak beta” remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi adding that people were forcibly putting words to his mouth.

Days after Mallikarjun Kharge stoked a controversy with his “poisonous snake” remark on PM Modi, the Congress president’s son Priyank Kharge on Monday outdid his father describing the holder of the country’s highest officer as “nalayak beta” (useless son).
“…When PM Modi had come to Kalaburgi, he said, Aap sab dariye mat, Banjara community ka ek beta Delhi mein baitha hai (do not be scared, a son from the Banjara community is sitting in Delhi). Aisa nalayak beta baithega toh ghar kaise chalega (if the son is useless, how will the house be run)?” Priyank Kharge said.

While talking to the reporters, Kharge said, “He (Priyank Kharge) never said, don’t put these things in his mouth. He attacked the parliament member who abused him. So don’t put in his mouth these words for Modi. Everywhere this is going purposely.”

Amid the high-decibel campaign for the ensuing Karnataka Assembly elections, Mallikarjun Kharge’s “poisonous snake” remark drew a sharp reaction from the BJP, which slammed the “slanderous” statement saying it reflected the “mentality” of the principal Opposition party in the state.

“PM Modi is like a ‘poisonous snake’. You might to check if its poison or not. But if you lick it, you’re dead,” Kharge had said at an election rally.

Kharge, who made the remarks at Kalaburagi, later issued a clarification saying his remark wasn’t directed at Prime Minister Modi but at the BJP and its “divisive” ideology.

The polls for the 224-seat Karnataka Assembly are scheduled to take place on May 10 and the counting of votes will be done on May 13. (ANI)

WFI Chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh

Wrestlers Protest Expanding Like Shaheen Bagh: Brij Bhushan

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday alleged that wrestlers’ protest is “expanding like Shaheen Bagh” and the target of protest is not him but the BJP.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh asked why the protest at Jantar Mantra has not ended even though an FIR has been registered on demand of wrestlers and alleged that the protest is “paid”.
“Tukde-tukde gang, the forces which were active in Shaheen Bagh, in the farmers’ protest, those who attack PM Modi from time to time, attack the party, all those forces are visible,” he said.

“I have been saying right from the beginning that my resignation is not their target, that is their excuse, their target is the party (BJP). When on their demand an FIR has been filed…the way they are inviting political parties, …Priyanka Gandhi reached, her husband reached, Malik sahab (Satyapal Malik) reached, Kejriwal reached, the way people are coming together, abusive language is being used against the Prime Minister…is this an agitation of players? it is not,” he told ANI.

Shaheen Bagh in Delhi came to the limelight during the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in 2019. The protesters blocked the road against the citizenship law for a few months forcing long traffic diversions.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, BJP MP from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh, asked if normal players can hire expensive lawyers for cases.

“There are industrialists behind it, these industrialists want to hurt me in every way, they are pouring money… I feel when industrialists can spend hundreds of crores against me.. there is a threat to my life, they have decided to be after Brij Bhushan Singh,” he said.

“The demand was that there should be FIR. It has been registered but their agitation is not coming to an end. Does the agitation not cost money. Slowly it is expanding like Shaheen Bagh. Slowly they want to divide UP, Haryana,” he added.

The MP said the majority of wrestlers were from two caste groups in Uttar Pradesh and one in Haryana.

“I want that these players to be asked by people from these two states why they are not letting nationals happen? I did cadet nationals, they protested against it. The nationals for the juniors, under 15 and under 23 should have been done by now. There are parents making sacrifices for the players. The wrestlers protesting are practising at Jantar Mantar. They are all big names, they can get permissions for trials as well. But what about the children whose parents are making sacrifices but are not getting to play because the activities of the federation are stopped for four months,” Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh told ANI.

The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs against WFI president Singh over allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation of female wrestlers.

Top Indian grapplers such as Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, are part of the protest against the WFI chief.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said Delhi Police is probing the allegations and the result of probe should be awaited.

The MP said he had given the oversight committee a purported audio allegedly of a player involved in the protest.

“What resignation should I give,” he said, adding that there was a conspiracy against him.

He said he was not aware of some of the allegations and did not know who had made them.

After a protest led by some prominent wrestlers of the country in January this year, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had announced the formation of an ‘oversight committee’ to probe allegations levelled against the WFI and its chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and other coaches.

The committee was tasked with submitting a report on the issue to the ministry. The wrestlers launched a fresh protest in April. (ANI)

Modi Thanks Gates For His Words Of Appreciation For ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his gratitude to Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates for his words of appreciation on his monthly radio address “Mann Ki Baat”.

PM Modi on Monday tweeted: “I thank my friend @BillGates for his words of appreciation. #MannKiBaat reflects the collective spirit of the people of India to make our planet better, something Mr. Gates is also passionate about. The strong resonance with SDGs is highlighted well in the study by @BMGFIndia.”
The tweet was in response to Gates’ post on Saturday, saying, “Mann ki Baat has catalyzed community-led action on sanitation, health, women’s economic empowerment and other issues linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Congratulations @narendramodi on the 100th episode.”

Indian Americans on Sunday, too, celebrated 100 episodes of PM Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat”.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar decided to tune in to the programme live with the diaspora in New Jersey at 1.30 am (local time) on Sunday, hailing it as a platform that has “an emotional connect” between PM Modi and the people of India.

“10 years ago if he had mentioned that at 2.10 at night everyone would be assembling at some place and the foreign minister of India would be with you, listening to the Prime Minister of India, none of you would have believed me,” Jaishankar told members of the diaspora.

“You have to understand that PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has an enormous impact not because the medium is 100 years old, somewhere there is an emotional connect between PM Modi and the people of India,” Jaishankar noted.

Also participating in the event and jointly listening to Prime Minister Modi were India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and the Consul General of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal.

The 30-minute program was also broadcast at the United Nations headquarters in New York, again in the wee hours.

Indian Permanent Mission to UN on Sunday tweeted: “A singular connect! Special moments from the Trusteeship Council at UN Headquarters, New York, where #MannKiAtBaat100 went LIVE, leaving all inspired and motivated.” (ANI)
