ED, CBI, IT Are Cells Of BJP: Tejashwi

“The ED, CBI and IT are the cells of the BJP. Lalu Ji has been harassed a lot of times. There have been cases against me. My mother, my sisters, my brother-in-law, all the relatives of my father, there were cases against everyone. Many of our leaders are being raided currently. ED, IT raids are underway. But we are not going to be scared. We will struggle. Only lions are caged. All of us are lions. We are fighting for you,” the RJD leader said at the Maha Rally.

The Central Bureau of Investigation

CBI Arrests 3, Including Shajahan Sheikh’s Brother

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested three more accused in the Sandeshkhali ED assault case, sources said. The accused have been identified as Mafujar Molla, Sirajul Molla and Sheikh Alomgir.

CBI has arrested total six person in the case as of now and investigations is underway.

Earlier, on March 11, amid the ongoing investigation into the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers at Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made three arrests.

The arrested individuals were identified as Didar Baksh Molla, Faruk Akunji and Jiaudddin Molla (Panchayat Pradhan of Sarberia Panchayat)

These arrests come as a crucial advancement in the case, shedding light on the intricate web surrounding the incident.

The arrested individuals are believed to be associates of expelled TMC leader Shahajahan Sheikh, who was apprehended earlier in connection with the same case.

On March 11, the Supreme Court also refused to interfere with the Calcutta High Court’s order directing a CBI probe in the Sandeshkhali matter pertaining to the attack on ED officials.

The arrests were carried out as part of the investigation into the FIR, which was filed following the attack on the ED officers. The CBI has indicated that all the accused will be presented before the magistrate tomorrow for further legal proceedings.

This step underscores the agency’s commitment to swift and decisive action against those involved in criminal activities, especially those targeting law enforcement officers.

The CBI is dedicated to uncovering every detail and ensuring that justice is served.

As more information comes to light, the agency continues to collaborate with relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and uphold the rule of law, CBI said.

CBI has summoned nine persons, of a close aide of the main accused, Shahjahan Sheikh, in connection with the ED assault case in the Kolkata office.

Apart from the attack on an ED team, which was out raiding his Sandeshkhali residence in connection with the alleged ration scam, Shahjahan is also accused of land grab, extortion and committing excesses on women along with his henchmen.

The women of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district erupted in protests and came out on the streets, accusing Shahjahan and his aides of grave excesses and atrocities.

Multiple women in the island accused Shajahan and his aides of “land-grab and sexual assault” under coercion. (ANI)

Sheikh Shahjahan to Joka ESI Hospital

CBI Takes Shahjahan To Joka ESI Hospital For Examination

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took the suspended Trinamool Congress strongman and Sandeshkhali accused Sheikh Shahjahan to Joka ESI Hospital for his medical examination after getting his handover from the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

Sheikh Shahjahan, accused of extortion, land grabs, and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali, was handed over to the CBI on Wednesday, following the Calcutta High Court’s directive.

Issuing a contempt notice to the West Bengal CID, the Calcutta High Court observed on Wednesday that an investigation into the attack on ED officials should be handed over to the CBI and the custody of accused Sheikh Shahjahan be done today.

The CBI team arrived at Bhabani Bhaban Police Headquarters in Kolkata to take custody of Sheikh Shahjahan earlier in the day.

Calcutta High Court also observed that state police have played hide and seek in the matter.

The Bengal government earlier refused to hand over custody of Shahjahan to the CBI despite a Calcutta High Court order Tuesday to the police’s criminal investigation department, or CID.

The state government on Wednesday sought an urgent hearing of its plea in the Supreme Court challenging a Calcutta High Court order that directed a CBI probe into the Sandeshkhali matter pertaining to an attack on Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali on January 5 this year.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the women victims of sexual assault in Sandeshkhali village, West Bengal, on Wednesday.

The sources said, “They put forward their ordeal and the Prime Minister heard them patiently like a father figure. The victims were very emotional with the fact that the PM understood their pain”.

Calling the women of Sandeshkhali, his parivar (family), PM Modi on Wednesday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of shielding the accused in the Sandeshkhali case and said that it is a “matter of shame.”

“Under TMC’s rule, the women of this land have been tortured. Whatever happened in Sandeshkhali will put anyone to shame but the TMC government does not care about your issues. TMC government is hell-bent on saving the perpetrator. Their acts were first condemned by the High Court and then the Supreme Court as well. TMC leaders have committed atrocities on the women of the state. Leaders of TMC are torturing the women from poor, Dalit, and Adivasis groups. TMC government trusts its leaders more than it trusts the women of Bengal. TMC has full confidence in their leader but not in the women of West Bengal,” the Prime Minister said.

After weeks of no action, on February 29, Sheikh was arrested by West Bengal police, after which West Bengal’s Basirhat Court remanded him to 10-day police custody. (ANI)

Israel Gaza

Gaza War Hampers Israeli Tourism Industry’s Post-COVID Recovery

Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that 3.2 million foreign visitors entered the country in 2023. This was more than the 2.9 million in 2022, but still a great deal less than the 4.6 million in 2019, the year prior to the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns.

The lower figure was largely caused by the war that began with the Hamas massacre of October 7. Statistics showed that the numbers of foreign visitors had almost reached the 2019 levels as of Oct. 6, but plummeted after that.

To date, the vast majority of foreign airlines have not restarted flights to Israel that were cancelled after the conflict began.

Israel saw virtually no foreign tourism over the Christmas holiday. In December, only 53,300 arrivals were recorded in Israel, 35.3 per cent of which were visitors from the United States.

The CBS also reported that 9.05 million Israelis travelled abroad in 2023, more than the 8.43 million in 2022.

Of the 2023 departures, 8.02 million were by air and 877,100 were by land. (ANI/TPS)
