“The Navy continues to conduct regular patrols and operations in Sri Lankan waters to curb illegal fishing practices by foreign fishing trawlers, taking into account the consequences of these practices on the livelihood of local fishermen and marine resources of the country,” read an official release by the Lankan navy.

The six fishermen belonged to the Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu.

CM Stalin's family case

TN CM Stalin’s family made Rs 30,000 cr in one year, looted common man: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday alleged that Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin made Rs. 30,000 crores in one year.

“When the Finance minister of Stalin talked to a journalist he revealed that Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin made Rs. 30,000 crores in one year. And their main concern is how and where to hide the money,” BJP spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha MP Syed Zafar Islam said.
The BJP National Spokesperson made the statement during a press address at BJP HQ on ‘DMK Files’ on Friday.

He added, “This is unprecedented that they have made this kind of money in a year, all this has been looted from the common man. The money which was supposed to be spent on the common man has been looted by the Tamil Nadu chief minister and a few of his trusted friends.”

V Sabareesan has set up two companies in the UK and these so-called companies are nothing but the means of illegally routing the ill-gotten wealth, he said.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief K Annamalai hit out at ally AIADMK for allegedly poaching BJP leaders.”Some four BJP leaders have joined, it is an unfortunate state in Tamil Nadu where Dravidian politicians who think they run big parties want to poach from BJP and grow their party. It is only showing BJP is growing,” Annamalai told ANI.

The development comes after a few BJP leaders, including former state secretary of BJP’s IT cell Dilip Kannan, joined the ranks of AIADMK. Annamalai further said, “Likewise, some 4-5 people from AIADMK have joined the press meet. It is an ongoing issue where people will join and people will leave. Whoever thinks that wherever they will get green pasture, they will go. We cannot stop them. The party will grow with committed workers.”Attacking ruling DMK and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Annamalai said, “CM Stalin should see the previous speeches given by his leaders about India and secession. We all know DMK by its blood is a divisive party and alleging BJP clearly shows that Stalinji has accepted BJP as the principal opposition party.”Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Police booked state BjP chief Annamalai in connection with alleged attacks on migrant laborers. The state’s Cyber Crime Division booked him under sections of inciting violence and promoting enmity between groups among others.(ANI)

TN BJP Passes Resolution Against Stalin For Disrespectful Remarks Against Governor

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday passed a resolution in the party’s executive meeting at Cuddalore against Chief Minister MK Stalin seeking his apology for ‘disrespectful’ remarks against Governor RN Ravi.

This comes after Stalin on January 14 took a veiled dig at Governor RN Ravi without mentioning his name during a Youth wing event organised to remember DMK founder Peraringar Anna.
“Today someone is lamenting that the name of Tamil Nadu should not be used. We should not give more importance to such publicity campaigns,” Stalin said.

In the BJP resolution passed today, the party condemned the state government for the incident which occurred during the Governor’s customary address at the opening session of the House in which Congress and the VCK, started raising slogans against the Governor and staged a walkout.

The resolution also condemned the Stalin government for not arresting RS Bharathi and Sivaji Krishnamoorthy who allegedly humiliated the Governor.

“If the Governor refuses to utter the name of Ambedkar in his Assembly speech, do I not have the right to assault him?” If you (Governor) do not read out the speech given by the Tamil Nadu government, then go to Kashmir, and we will send terrorists so that they’ll gun you down,” Krishnamoorthy had said.

The BJP also condemned Stalin for using ‘disrespectful’ language against the Governor.

During the meeting, it was also decided that BJP state chief Annamalai would start his yatra across the state from Tiruchendur on April 14. Further details on the yatra will be revealed later.

On Wednesday, January 9, the Governor sparked a controversy with his statement that the name ‘Thamizhagam’ would be more appropriate for the state.

Governor Ravi’s remark during his customary address at the opening session of the House on Monday, triggered an uproar, especially from the Treasury benches.

Legislators of Congress and the VCK staged a walkout.

Congress and Communist parties and other allies protested outside Raj Bhavan against TN Governor RN Ravi earlier over the speech row. CPM protested today near Little Mount. (ANI)

Priyanka Met Me In Jail; Questioned About Her Father’s Killing: Nalini

Nalini Sriharan, one of the six convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case on Sunday said that Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met her in the jail and questioned her about the killing of her father Rajiv Gandhi.

She further said that Priyanka Gandhi turned emotional and cried when she met her in jail.
“Priyanka Gandhi met me in jail and she asked me about her father’s killing. She got emotional for her father. She cried too,” said Sriharan, while addressing a press conference.

Sriharan, who is the longest-serving woman prisoner serving a life sentence in the country, was released from the Vellore jail on Saturday following an order from the Supreme Court on Friday, freeing all six convicts, including RP Ravichandran, in the case.

Sriharan further urged the Tamil Nadu government to take the necessary actions to release her husband as soon as possible from the Trichy Special camp.

“On Monday I am going to meet my husband at Trichy Special camp. We got married and we have a child who lives aboard. My daughter is so excited to meet her father. I really want to go and see a few places in Tamil Nadu mainly the late Kamala Sir Memorial. I can’t meet my husband yet so am not happy at present. I request the Tamil Nadu government to take the necessary actions to release him as soon as possible from the Camp,” she said.

She further said that she wants to meet all the people who helped her to come out of this case.

“I want to see Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. I want to meet CM Stalin soon and really want to thank him. I am very thankful to the Gandhi Family. I am ready to meet them if I get a chance to meet them,” Sriharan said.

Recounting her days in jail she said that the convicts were treated in jail like death convicts and even though she was two months pregnant she was locked inside the prison

“We have been treated in jail like death convicts. Even when I was two months pregnant, they locked me inside the prison,” Sriharan said.

Talking about her future plans, she said, “Family will be my priority and I am not going to do anything professional. My whole life is totally destroyed already so I am going to take care of the family,” she added.

Supreme court Advocate Ananda Selvan said, “She was living in prison for more than 30 years so we wanted to help her. We had worked for 20 years to help her. Due to good conduct, Tamil Nadu Government agreed to give premature release to her.”

Apart from Nalini, the other convicts in the case are Ravichandran, Robert Payas, Jayakumar, S Raja, and Sriharan.

Ravichandran, one of the six convicts in the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, was released from Madurai Central Prison.

The Tamil Nadu government had earlier recommended the premature release of convicts saying that its 2018 aid and advice for the remission of their life sentence is binding upon the Governor.

Nalini Sriharan and five others were serving life sentence terms in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. They were set free by the SC on the grounds of having good conduct in jail.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur Tamil Nadu by a woman suicide bomber of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) group during a public rally.

The seven convicts were sentenced to death for their role in the killing. They included Nalini Sriharan, RP Ravichandran, Jayakumar, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas, and AG Perarivalan.

In the year 2000, Nalini Sriharan’s sentence was reduced to a life term. Later in the year 2014, the sentence of the other six convicts was also reduced, and during the same year, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha recommended the release of all the seven convicts in the case. BJP To Go To Any Extent To Win 2024 LS: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who was elected as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president for the second time unopposed on Sunday, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will go to any extent to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The party should win all the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in the state and the lone seat in neighboring Puducherry as well,” he said.
In his address at the DMK’s 15th general council meeting, Stalin told the party leaders and workers to be ready to defeat BJP and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the Parliamentary election.

“We have to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies and start working on booth committees from now for the Parliamentary election. Finish this work within the next two months,” Stalin said after he was elected as DMK President.

The Chief Minister said that he is confident that the DMK is permanently going to be the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

“We can’t be careless as we won in the State Assembly Election and formed the government. We have to be careful to maintain this victory. Permanently we have to keep this victory. I don’t have any doubts that hereafter DMK is permanently going to be the ruling government in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu CM said that this Parliamentary election victory would be the base for a 100 percent win in the next State assembly election.

“Spread awareness about our ideology among youngsters. Create awareness about our government’s achievements among people. These are very important as General Election is nearing. We have to win all 40 constituencies and should play an important role in national politics. No one should be careless about this in any way. This Parliament election victory would be the base for a 100 per cent win in the next State assembly election,” said the DMK chief.

Accusing the BJP of trying to do politics by instigating the religious and spiritual sentiments of the people, he said since the people of Tamil Nadu never mixed politics and spiritualism, the BJP is now breathless in the state.

“Don’t forget that the BJP will go to any extent to win the Parliamentary election. BJP doesn’t have anything to list out their achievements. So they are defaming our party. The BJP is trying to play politics with religion and spiritualism. But in Tamil Nadu BJP is struggling to breathe as Tamil People never mix politics and spiritualism,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that the BJP using AIADMK and creating inter-party issues for them.

“After Jayalalithaa’s demise without a strong leader AIADMK is so weak and they are now split into four teams. AIADMK doesn’t have any ideology other than being against DMK. That’s why today they seem very weak,” the DMK chief said.

He asked the DMK leaders and workers to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies.

“We have to be ready to face BJP and AIADMK lies. Start working on booth committees from now for the Parliament election. Finish this work within the next two months,” he added.

Stalin was elected as DMK President for the second time unopposed.
