IPL: Rizwi Goes To CSK For Rs 8.4 Cr, Shubham Goes To DC

Uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizwi was sold to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 8.4 crore while another uncapped batter Shubham Dubey was sold to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Dubai on Tuesday.

For Dubey, there was a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals and he was bought by one-time champions eventually.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year for Vidarbha, Dubey scored 221 runs in seven innings at an average of 73.66 with a strike rate of over 187, with one half-century.

Rizwi was bought by five-time champions CSK following an intense bidding war with Gujarat Titans. His base prize was Rs 20 lakh but was brought for Rs 8.4 crores.

Rizw in UPT20 league this year, scored 455 runs in 10 matches at an average of over 50, with two tons and a fifty. His runs came at a strike rate of over 188. In 11 T20s for UP, he has scored 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and an SR of over 134, with two fifties.

Young Mumbai batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 20 lakh.

Shreyas Retained As KKR’s Captain Ahead Of IPL 2024

Shreyas Iyer has been retained as the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.

KKR took to X to announce Shreyas as the skipper of the franchise. Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR, announced that lyer will continue to captain KKR while southpaw Nitish Rana will serve as his deputy.

Making the announcement, Venky was quoted as saying in a KKR release, “It was indeed unfortunate that Shreyas missed IPL 2023 due to injury. We are delighted that he’s back and at the helm as Captain. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character. We are also grateful that Nitish had agreed to step into Shreyas’s shoes last season and did a great job. There’s no doubt Nitish as Vice Captain will support Shreyas in every possible way for the benefit of Team KKR.”

On being entrusted with the top job for the next edition of the IPL, Shreyas said, “I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including my absence due to injury. Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership. I am delighted that KKR has named him Vice Captain. No doubt it will strengthen the leadership group.”

The versatile batter has grabbed every opportunity to feature in the playing eleven with both hands, establishing himself as a mainstay in the Indian middle-order after a sensational run in the World Cup earlier this year.

The team management has also been investing in him as a successor to Test specialists Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, both of whom are in the twilight of their careers in the red-ball format.

In white-ball cricket, Iyer has been a model of consistency and is a joy to watch, especially when it comes to negotiating spinners.

He has established himself as one of the best players of spin bowling in the last few years.

In T20Is, Iyer has scored 1,104 runs in 51 matches and 47 innings at an average of 30.66, with eight half-centuries and best score of 74*.

IPL 2023 Auction: Curran Sold To Punjab Kings At Rs 18.50 Cr

England all-rounder Sam Curran has been sold to Punjab Kings at a record Rs 18.50 crore for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2023 Friday.

Chris Morris was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crore in 2021.

Sam Curran entered at INR 2 crore. Mumbai Indians (MI) made the first move for Curran. And the bidding war begins between MI and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Frenetic raising of paddles at both tables as the bid zooms up to Rs 6 crore.

The bid kept going back and forth between MI and Rajasthan Royals (RR). RR was back in the lead at Rs 11.5 crore. MI tapped out.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) then jumped in with Rs 11.75 crore bid. Both MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming are back to Curran to perform any role at CSK.

PBKS also bid for Sam Curran, Punjab was Curran’s first franchise in the IPL.

The bid quickly zoomed past Rs 15 crore with CSK taking the lead at Rs 15.25 crore.

PBKS raised the paddle as the bidding war continued.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) jumped in at Rs 15.75 crore. They need to fill the Holder-sized void. The bid touched Rs 16.5 crore. Sam Curran has fetched the highest-ever bid at an IPL auction.

Talking about Curran’s performance, he was the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup this year with a total of 13 scalps, with the best bowling figures of 5/10.

The 24-year-old is also a solid batter, with 1,731 T20I runs in 109 innings at an average of 20.85 and nine fifties. (ANI)
