Birsa Munda Jayanti: Murmu Joins Tribal Dancers, Dhankar Tries Hands-On Drums

President of India Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday joined the folk artists as they performed tribal dance on the occasion of the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi also joined the group at the Parliament House Complex.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla tried their hands on the drum and danced along with the tribals.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said “Tribal community has a major contribution in India’s freedom struggle… The work done by the Tribal community during the freedom struggle is a matter of pride for everyone… Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is being celebrated to let people know about the works done by the Tribal community… Several programmes and schemes have also been initiated for the development of the community…”

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park and Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi and paid floral tributes to Indian tribal activist Birsa Munda.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda and Governor of Jharkhand CP Radhakrishnan.

In his message on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda the Prime Minister said in his post on X “Respectful tribute to Lord Birsa Munda ji on his birth anniversary. Many best wishes to my family members across the country on this special occasion of Tribal Pride Day.”

The Prime Minister also visited Ulihatu Village, the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

President Murmu also took to her social media handle and greeted the people of Jharkhand on the state’s formation day and wished the state would always remain progressive with its natural resources.

“My heartiest greetings to all the residents of Jharkhand on the occasion of State Formation Day. The birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda is celebrated as ‘Tribal Pride Day’. I wish that the entire Jharkhand state always remains progressive with its natural resources and that the blessings of Lord Birsa remain on the people here,” posted the president on X. (ANI)

Murmu To Inaugurate Conference Of NHRIs Of Asia Pacific On Sept 20

President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the Biennial Conference of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) of Asia Pacific on September 20, 2023, in New Delhi, an official statement issued by NHRC said on Thursday. 

The conference is being organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Forum (APF) on September 20-21, 2023. The Asia Pacific Forum will also hold its 28th Annual General Meeting on September 20, 2023, to discuss the issues of common interest to member countries.

NHRC said that more than 1,300 delegates from India and abroad are likely to participate in the conference. 

“The conference will be attended by Heads, members and senior officials of the National Human Rights Institutions of 23 countries and 5 observer countries along with representatives from the Union and state governments, State Human Rights Commissions, Special Rapporteurs, Monitors, various institutions involved in the protection and promotion of human rights in the country, members of civil society and NGOs, human right defenders, lawyers, jurists, academicians, diplomats, representatives of UN agencies, academic institutions, etc. Earlier, in 2002 and 2014, such an AGM of Asia Pacific Forum and conference was held in India,” an official statement said. 

“On 21st September 2023, the Biennial Conference will mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UNDHR). It will also celebrate 30 years of National Human Rights Institutions and the Paris Principles, with a sub-theme on the environment and climate change,” it added. 

During the conference, three plenary sessions on the themes ‘Setting the Scene-30 Years of Promoting and Protecting Human Rights across Asia and the Pacific’; ‘Advancing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its Promise of Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All’; and ‘The role of NHRIs in responding to and mitigating the human rights impacts of climate change-national, regional, and international actions’, will be held.

NHRC said that the Biennial Conference also aims to provide an opportunity for sharing good practices to support communities to respond to human rights impacted by climate change.

A separate session on ‘Business and Human Rights’ will also be held in partnership with UNDP, which will be attended by the representatives of business and industry, workers’ organizations and associations, various ministries, departments, statutory organizations, UN agencies, human rights defenders, NGOs, etc. In this session issues related to the human rights of workers in various businesses and professions will be discussed.    

The APF is one of the four regional NHRI networks, including Africa, NANHRI; Americas, RINDHCA; and Europe, ENNHRI, part of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).

The NHRC, India, has been a valued partner of the APF as an independent and autonomous ‘A’ status NHRI, fully compliant with the Paris Principles. The year also marks 30 years of the existence of NHRC, India. (ANI)

National Teachers Day Award 2023

Murmu Confers National Teachers’ Award 2023 To 75 Awardees In Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2023 to 75 selected awardees in Delhi.

Speaking on occasion, President Murmu said, “Our teachers and students should gather detailed knowledge from Charak and Sushruta and from Aryabhatta to Chandrayaan-3, take inspiration from them and work for the glorious future of the country with a broad mind. I firmly believe that our teachers and students will together take India rapidly ahead towards becoming a developed country in Kartavya Kaal.”

She further said that giving students love is more important than giving them education.

“When teachers appreciate or encourage or punish, students remember everything. If they are punished to improve them, students realise it with time. So, I believe that giving them love is more important than giving them education. Our Education Policy gives priority to connecting with Indian culture and pride,” she said.

The award ceremony was held in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. 

According to a government release, each award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.

Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education has been organising a National level function on Teachers Day every year to confer the National Awards to the best teachers in the country, selected through a rigorous, transparent selection process.

From this year, the ambit of the National Teachers’ Award has been expanded to include teachers of the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, it added.

50 school teachers, 13 teachers from higher education and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship have been awarded this year.

Every year, the country celebrates September 5, the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as National Teachers’ Day. The purpose of the National Teachers’ Award is to celebrate the unique contribution of teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who, through their commitment and dedication, have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.

With a view to recognize innovative teaching, research, community outreach and novelty of work the nominations were sought in online mode to maximize participation (Jan Bhagidari).

Murmu Visits Lingaraj Temple

President Droupadi Murmu who is on a two-day visit to Odisha, visited the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and offered prayers here on the second day of her visit.

Murmu paid obeisance to the Lord and then attended a program at the National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) Cuttack before returning to the capital.
President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Bhubaneswar on Friday on a two-day visit. Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan with other dignitaries welcomed Droupadi Murmu at Biju Patnaik International Airport on her arrival to Odisha.

On the first day, she attended the foundation day the of Jnanaprabha Mission at the Utkal Mandap in the afternoon. Later she attended the second convocation of Rama Devi Women’s University, Murmu’s alma mater. Murmu also inaugurate a banquet hall at the Governor’s residence and spent the night at Raj Bhavan.

Addressing the 2nd Convocation of Rama Devi Women’s University, the President recalled the days – she spent at this University (then college) as a student.

Highlighting the diverse role of women, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said women empowerment is no longer a slogan, but it has become a reality to a large extent.

She said that she had studied in this institution for four years after completing her schooling at Unit-2 Girls School in Bhubaneswar.

President Murmu said that she is still in touch with many of her classmates from that time adding that this great educational institution has always been a source of inspiration in her life.

Addressing the students of the University, the President said that they should feel proud as girl students, that is, as representatives of women.

“It is heartening that the representation of women is increasing in all democratic institutions from Panchayats to Parliament. It is a great achievement of our democracy that for the first time, the number of women parliamentarians has crossed 100. This is a good sign for the future of our democracy,” said the President.

After assuming the office, this is the second visit of Murmu to Odisha. Earlier in November 2022 also President Murmu visited Odisha. (ANI)
