He said Chhath is now getting organized on a large scale in different districts of Maharashtra along with Delhi, Mumbai and many parts of Gujarat.

“I do remember that earlier in Gujarat, Chhath Puja was not performed to this extent. Gujarat Announces Forming A Committee For Implementing UCC In State

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday announced forming of a committee for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.

The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting.
“Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Bhupendra Patel has taken a historic decision in the cabinet meeting today – of forming a committee for implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state,” said Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi.

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Gujarat, the state government announced to constitute of a panel to evaluate implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state.

The committee is likely to be formed under a retired High Court judge.

Earlier the Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh governments had announced their decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code.

Uniform Civil Code is a proposal in India to formulate and implement personal laws of citizens which apply to all citizens equally regardless of their religion, gender, and sexual orientation.

Many political leaders have backed the UCC saying that it will bring equality to the country.

However, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has termed it “an unconstitutional and anti-minorities move”, and called the rhetoric for bringing the law an attempt by Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Central governments to divert the attention from the concerns of inflation, economy, and rising unemployment.

The Centre earlier this month told the Supreme Court that it could not direct Parliament to frame or enact any law on Uniform Civil Code in the country.

The Ministry of Law and Justice in its affidavit stated that the matter of policy is for the elected representatives of the people to decide and no direction in this regard can be issued by the Centre. “It is for the legislature to enact or not to enact a piece of legislation,” the ministry told the apex court.

Notably, in Bharatiya Janata Party’s 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto, BJP promised the implementation of UCC if it comes to power. (ANI)

Modi Calls For Smart Law And Order System

Highlighting the importance of having a smart law and order system at par with advanced technologies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday stated that law enforcement agencies have to be 10 steps ahead of the crime world.

He also floated the idea of “one nation, one police uniform” saying that states and union territories should discuss if this is possible.
Addressing the Chintan Shivir of home ministers of states via video conferencing, PM Modi said, “Today the nature of crimes is changing. We need to understand the new age technologies. We have entered the 5G era. Hence we need to be more vigilant.”

With 5G technology, PM said there will be manifold improvement in facial recognition technology, automatic number plate recognition technology, and drone and CCTV technology.

“With the advancement in 5G technology, awareness is equally important. It is to be ensured that India’s law and order system becomes smart. Technology not only helps in the prevention of crimes but also in crime investigation. We will have to be 10 steps ahead of the crime world,” he said.

PM said there is a need for a positive perspective and called for improved synergy among the police stations with cooperation, rapport and a streamlined mechanism.

In order to improve the efficiency of the police and strengthen law and order, Prime Minister said the interconnectedness between the police of different states is an important aspect.

He said, “Law and order is not restricted to one state now. Crime is turning interstate and international. With technology, criminals now have increased their power to commit crimes. Criminals beyond the border are misusing technology. Be it cybercrime or the usage of drone technology for the smuggling of weapons or drugs, we will have to keep working on new technology for them.”

The coordination between agencies of all states and between central and state agencies is essential, PM said.

He pointed out that the government has started Police Technology Mission to introduce technology-driven reforms and processes to strengthen the police force in India.

The PM said that it is evident that during the time of natural calamities, organizations like the NDRF and the SDRF assists stranded people and this instills the confidence of people in the government.

“I urge all states to come together and develop a common uniform for the police force. This will create job opportunities through mass manufacturing and build a common identity for the police,” the PM said.

The prime minister also warned about the implications of fake news.

“For safety and rights of law-abiding citizens, stringent action against negative forces is our responsibility…A small piece of fake news can kick up a storm across the nation…We will have to educate people to think before forwarding anything and verify before believing it,” the prime minister said.

The Chintan Shivir of home ministers in Surajkund, Prime Minister said is an excellent example of cooperative federalism. He said States can learn from each other, take inspiration from each other and work together for the betterment of the country.

He said the next 25 years will be for the creation of an ‘amrit peedhi’. This ‘amrit peedhi’ will be created by imbibing the resolutions of ‘Panch Pran’ – creation of a developed India, freedom from all colonial mindset, pride in heritage, unity, and most importantly, citizen duty.

The two-day Chintan Shivir is being held at Surajkund, Haryana. Home Secretaries and Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of the States and Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs) also attended the Chintan Shivir.

According to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) statement, the Chintan Shivir of Home Ministers is an endeavour to provide a national perspective to policy formulation on internal security-related matters. The Shivir, in the spirit of cooperative federalism, will bring more synergy in planning and coordination between various stakeholders at the centre and state levels.

The Shivir will deliberate on issues like modernization of police forces, cybercrime management, increased use of IT in the criminal justice system, land border management, coastal security, women’s safety, and drug trafficking, among others, added the statement. (ANI)

BJP ECI SNATCH YADAV

BJP Using ECI To Snatch Yadav, Muslim Votes In UP: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the help of the Election Commission machinery “snatched” away the power in Uttar Pradesh from Samajwadi Party because they are aware that without UP, they cannot remain in power at the Centre.

Elaborating further he accused the Election Commission of deliberately reducing the votes of ‘Muslim’ and ‘Yadav’ communities by 20,000 in almost every Vidhan sabha seat on the diktats of BJP and its aides.
“The Election Commission deliberately reduced the votes of Yadavs & Muslims by 20,000 in almost every Vidhan sabha seat on diktats of BJP & its aides. A probe can be conducted, it will be found that the names of many people were removed…,” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said.

Akhilesh, who was elected as the National President of the Samajwadi Party at the party’s national conference for the third consecutive time, made a scathing attack on the BJP and said that a probe can be conducted on how the votes of Yadavs and Muslims have been reduced in almost every Vidhan sabha seat.

“This government is not made by people, even people don’t believe how they again formed the government. They and their machinery snatched away the government from the Samajwadi party because they knew if they lose power in UP they’ll lose power in Delhi,” Akhilesh said.

Attacking the BJP, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The Gujarat businessmen and industrialists have enjoyed the maximum loan waiver. Despite forming the government twice, the current government has only increased unemployment and poverty across the state.”

“Agni Veers were being recruited in Farrukhabad, lakhs of youth had come for recruitment, but the government has betrayed the country’s army. The youth were coming for Army recruitment because of poverty and unemployment,” he further said.

“This government is playing with the reservation system. Ever since they came to power, atrocities towards Azam Khan have been unstoppable. Even the officers have been instructed that they will only get promotions if they continue to do atrocities,” said Akhilesh Yadav.

The SP Chief further took a jibe at the free ration scheme of the BJP and called it an election gimmick.

“They have made ration free as elections are approaching in some states. They can make ration free but can’t provide stretcher or ambulance to poor people in villages while they give huge benefits to big businessman,” the SP Chief said.

Earlier on September 20, Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav, held a protest march against the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government, highlighting issues in the state before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the state legislature.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP government of stopping him and his party members from marching to the Vidhan Bhavan.

However, the BJP hit back at the protests and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prashad Maurya said that the march was not related to the benefit of the common people. (ANI)

MoS Muraleedharan

No Compromise On National Security: MoS Muraleedharan Lauds PFI Ban

Union minister V Muraleedharan on Wednesday lauded the Centre’s ban on PFI and its affiliates for five years, saying it showed that the Modi government “acts tough” with forces aiming to disrupt peace and stability.

The Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs reaffirmed the government’s stand that there would be no compromise on the matter of national security.
“No compromise on National Security. Banning PFI reiterates the fact that @narendramodi Govt acts tough on forces aiming to disrupt peace & nation’s stability. @narendramodi govt ensuring integrity, sovereignty & security of the country. The whole nation welcomes this decision,” Muraleedharan tweeted.

Late Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs declared the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates or affiliates or fronts “as an unlawful association with immediate effect”. It banned these outfits for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Along with PFI, the ban was imposed on its fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.

In a notification, the Home Ministry said the ban has been imposed against these outfits for “indulging in unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony of the country and supporting militancy in the country.”

The notification said the PFI has been found to be involved in several “criminal and terror cases and shows sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority of the country and with funds and ideological support from outside it has become a major threat to the internal security of the country.”

The ban has been imposed after two rounds of nationwide raids against the PFI this month during which more than 100 members associated with the outfit were detained. (ANI)
