Murmu Confers National Teachers’ Award 2023 To 75 Awardees In Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2023 to 75 selected awardees in Delhi.

Speaking on occasion, President Murmu said, “Our teachers and students should gather detailed knowledge from Charak and Sushruta and from Aryabhatta to Chandrayaan-3, take inspiration from them and work for the glorious future of the country with a broad mind. I firmly believe that our teachers and students will together take India rapidly ahead towards becoming a developed country in Kartavya Kaal.”

She further said that giving students love is more important than giving them education.

“When teachers appreciate or encourage or punish, students remember everything. If they are punished to improve them, students realise it with time. So, I believe that giving them love is more important than giving them education. Our Education Policy gives priority to connecting with Indian culture and pride,” she said.

The award ceremony was held in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. 

According to a government release, each award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.

Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education has been organising a National level function on Teachers Day every year to confer the National Awards to the best teachers in the country, selected through a rigorous, transparent selection process.

From this year, the ambit of the National Teachers’ Award has been expanded to include teachers of the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, it added.

50 school teachers, 13 teachers from higher education and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship have been awarded this year.

Every year, the country celebrates September 5, the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as National Teachers’ Day. The purpose of the National Teachers’ Award is to celebrate the unique contribution of teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who, through their commitment and dedication, have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.

With a view to recognize innovative teaching, research, community outreach and novelty of work the nominations were sought in online mode to maximize participation (Jan Bhagidari).

The ministry constituted three separate Independent National Jurys comprising eminent persons for the selection of teachers. (ANI)

CBFC To '72 Hoorain' Trailer

CBFC Denies Refusing Certification To ’72 Hoorain’ Trailer

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Thursday issued a statement denying reports that it had refused to issue a censor certificate to the trailer of ’72 Hoorain’ by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.

Reports on the alleged denial of a censor certificate for the film’s trailer sparked debates over creative freedom and censorship.
However, the CBFC denied the reports in a statement saying, “Misleading reports are being circulated in certain sections of media that a film and its trailer titled “Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)” has been Refused certification by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).”

It added, “Contrary to the reports, CBFC states that the film ‘Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)’ was granted ‘A’ certification and the certificate was issued on 4-10-2019. Now, the trailer of said film is under due process which was applied to CBFC on 19-6-2023 and examined in accordance with the Guidelines issued under Section 5B(2) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The applicant was asked for requisite documentary submissions under intimation and upon receipt of the same, certification was granted subject to modifications. A show cause notice communicating the modifications was issued to the applicant/filmmaker on 27-6-2023 and the same is pending for the applicant’s response/compliance. Thus, any misleading reports may not be entertained or circulated hereinafter when the matter is under due process.”

The CBFC’s responsibility is to ensure that films adhere to certain guidelines and classifications to safeguard audience sensibilities.

The makers of the film, on Wednesday, digitally unveiled the official trailer of the film.

Taking to Instagram, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the trailer, captioning, “’72 HOORAIN’ TRAILER OUT NOW… Team #72Hoorain – directed by #NationalAward winner #SanjayPuranSinghChauhan- launches the trailer of the film, which arrives in cinemas on 7 July 2023.”

Helmed by two-time National Award winner Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, the film is slated to release on July 7.

The film is produced by Gulab Singh Tanwar, Kiran Dagar, and Anirudh Tanwar and is co-produced by Ashoke Pandit.

Earlier, the makers unveiled the film’s teaser in 10 languages.

Murmu To Confer National Awards For Empowerment Of Persons With Disabilities

President Droupadi Murmu will confer national awards for outstanding work towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Saturday at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

For the year 2022, a total of 1,210 applications were received for the selection process which consisted of the examination of documents and records submitted by the applicants. These applications were screened and shortlisted by the Screening Committees constituted by the Department.
In the year 2021, a total of 844 applications were received for the award.

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in a statement said that the awards will be given to individuals, institutions, organizations, and states or districts, for their outstanding achievements and work towards the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment confers national awards for outstanding achievements and work done towards the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities every year.

Till 2017, the Award Scheme was governed under the National Awards Rules, 2013 which provided 7 categories of disabilities as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.

However, with the coming into force of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 with effect from April 19, 2017, the number of specified disabilities increased from 7 to 21 under the new Law.

Accordingly, all 21 disabilities have been included under the National Award Guidelines which have been notified in the Extraordinary Gazette of India dated August 2, 2018. (ANI)

Suriya National Award

Suriya after winning National Award for Best Actor

Actor Suriya won the National Award for Best Actor for ‘Soorarai Pottru’ on Friday.

President Draupadi Murmu presented him with the award in New Delhi. Upon receiving the honour, Suriya, while speaking to ANI, expressed his elation and said, “Huge honour. Truly grateful to the National Film Award jury and the Government of India. A lot of emotions running in my mind. I have a lot of people to thank…Getting goosebumps. Truly a moment which I’ll never forget”
Suriya whose real name is Saravanan Sivakumar won the National Award for his work in the film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ which is a dramatized portrayal of retired Army Captain GR Gopinath’s life as the founder of the low-cost airline Air Deccan.

Despite having a straight OTT release, the film was a big success, with fans flooding Twitter with rave reviews. Suriya and Guneet Monga both co-produced the film.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ also received the National Award for Best Feature Film. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film also features Paresh Rawal and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles.

In fact, Aparna Balamurali also received the National Award for Best Actress in the lead role for her performance in the film.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is currently being made in Hindi, with actors Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan in the lead roles. The release date of the film is still not announced.

Along with Suriya, actor Ajay Devgn also received the National Award for Best Actor in the lead role for his performance in the film ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. (ANI)
