Nawaz’s Supporters Bring Lion, Tiger To Lahore Rally

In an unprecedented event in Pakistan, the supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) brought a lion and a tiger to the Nawaz Sharif-led Lahore rally on Tuesday, The News International reported.

It reported that the animals representing the party’s symbol were brought to the camps set up in the National Assembly (NA)-130 constituency to welcome former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Scores of PML-N supporters took selfies with the lion and tiger locked in iron cages. The wild animals have been brought to multiple PML-N public gatherings in the past.

However, PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Nawaz’s instruction, a “real lion, brought by one of its supporters for the PML-N rally, has been returned.”

“Nawaz Sharif has instructed that no real lion or any other animal should be brought to any rally in Pakistan,” she said in a tweet.

The News International reported that Marriyum also said the PML-N supremo took strict notice of bringing a lion to the rally on Mohini Road and was directed to send the animal back immediately, after which the lion was sent back right away.

On Tuesday evening, Nawaz led a public rally in NA-130, from where he will contest general elections slated for February 8.

PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz also participated in the rally, which will start from Mohini Road and go to Ameer Roor Malik Park from Kale Di Puli.

The rally will go from Malik Park to Saradar Chapel Chowk, via Moola Bakhsh Chowk, Ibrahim Road, Santnagar and Isalampura.

On Wednesday, Nawaz Sharif asserted that Pakistan faced a crisis following his ouster from the prime minister’s office, ARY News reported.

In a public gathering at Nankana Sahib, Sharif questioned the rationale behind imprisoning a prime minister who played a pivotal role in making Pakistan a nuclear state.

He alleged that five judges removed him from office for not accepting a salary from his son, leading to subsequent economic challenges in the country, as reported by ARY News.

Sharif pledged to bring about positive change in Nankana Sahib, outlining plans to transform the city into a model with the establishment of a boy’s degree college and a state-of-the-art cricket stadium. (ANI)

Pak: PDM Chief Expresses Displeasure Over PML-N, PPP Meetings

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed displeasure over recent meetings held in Dubai between the top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Dawn reported on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Rehman also the chief of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) — the ruling coalition — said questions were being raised within the alliance regarding the “scheduled” meeting between the two major government allies.
“PML-N is a part of PDM. How is it possible if it was not a scheduled huddle,” he wondered, asking, “Why the PDM was not taken into confidence regarding the huddle with the PPP, which was not part of the alliance?”

Questioning the “international support” for PTI chief Imran Khan, The JUI-F chief stated, “Those who desecrate our religion [Islam], those who burn [copies of the] Holy Quran are raising voices for Imran Khan. We put up a serious fight against him [Imran Khan] and we [also] fought against the recognition of Israel”.

Maulana Fazl also said that the tenure of the National Assembly would end within a month and an interim set-up would be appointed ahead of polls. The term of the National Assembly, along with the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan, is set to expire on August 12 and elections are required to be held in October this year.

In an apparent reference to the PTI’s supporters, Fazl hoped that they “would not push the country towards destruction”, Dawn reported.

Talking about the no-confidence motion last year, that led to the ouster of former PM Imran Khan, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief said that his party was “against the no-trust vote as it favoured street protests to compel the then-PTI government to step down”, Dawn reported.

“However, the PPP, PML-N and other opposition parties said the no-confidence resolution against Imran Khan was ready to be tabled,” he added.

Maulana Fazl also claimed that former spy chief, retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, in a meeting with him, offered him the membership and chairmanship of the Senate, but he refused the offer since the former general “wanted a change within the system”, Dawn reported.

On being asked about the trial of civilians in military courts, Fazl said the military itself was a complainant in that case.

“The military is a complainant in the cases against those involved in attacks on installations on May 9, 10 and it wants a trial of suspects in their [military] courts,” Dawn quoted Fazl as saying.

While talking about attacks against the JUI-F leadership in Bajaur and other tribal districts, the party chief said 18 religious scholars were targeted in attacks over the past 18 months in Bajaur and some five active members, including public representatives, were targeted in North Waziristan.

“Why Al Qaeda and Daesh [the militant Islamic State group] could not be eliminated,” he questioned. The JUI-F said that security issues were the domain of the military and the army discussed such issues only with the prime minister. (ANI)

Shehbaz Meets Chinese Prez Xi In Beijing

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, becoming the first head of state to visit China since Xi’s re-election for the third time.

This is also Sharif’s first visit to China since assuming office in April this year and follows his meeting with Xi in Uzbekistan in September.
“During his maiden 2-days visit to China, PM Shehbaz Sharif and President Xi Jinping met at the People’s Great Hall of China to discuss broad-based cooperation in economy and investment and exchanged views on regional and global developments,” tweeted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Sharif is heading a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He is also scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with Premier Li Keqiang to review the All-Weather Strategic Cooperation Partnership between China and Pakistan.

Ahead of his visit Sharif in an opinion piece for Chinese media outlet Global Times on October 30 said: “I would be soon in Beijing on my first bilateral visit after assuming office, and that too at an opportune time, soon after the successful conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.”

“For Pakistan, relations with China form the cornerstone of our foreign policy; in China, Pakistan is described as Ba Tie i.e. China’s Iron Brother, and elsewhere our ties are appreciated for their unique strength, enduring permanence, and unfathomable trust,” he wrote.

Before leaving for China, Sharif said that his discussions with Chinese leadership will focus on the revitalization of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor among many other things.

“My discussions with Chinese leadership will focus on the revitalization of CPEC among many other things. 2nd phase of CPEC promises to usher in a new era of socio-economic progress that will uplift the quality of our people’s lives. There is a lot to learn from the Chinese economic miracle,” Sharif tweeted.

CPEC’s next phase of high-quality development will encompass key areas such as industry, energy, agriculture, ICT, rail and road network, and developing Gwadar Port as a hub of trade and transshipment, investment, and regional connectivity.

Meanwhile, China raised the issue of the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan ahead of Sharif’s visit.

Xi Jinping was elected General Secretary of the Chinese communist party for the third time in the recently held 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party where he was elected as the general secretary and head of the pary for the next five years. (ANI)
