Modi Urges Tourists To Spend 10% Of Their Travel Budget To Buy Local Products

In a fresh pitch to boost local products, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged tourists to spend at least 10 per cent of their travel budget to purchase local goods from the area they visit, as they plan their itinerary.

“It might not be a big amount for you, but it will transform the economic landscape of that place,” PM Modi said, as he attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the UP Global Investors’ Summit in Lucknow.

“I urge everyone, when planning their travel itinerary, to allocate 10 per cent of their budget to purchasing local goods from the area they visit,” the prime minister said.

With the Kumbh Mela to be held in 2025, PM Modi said it is going to be very important for the economy of Uttar Pradesh.

“In the coming time, a large number of jobs are going to be created here in the tourism and hospitality sectors,” PM Modi said, adding that today every person in the country wants to come to Varanasi and Ayodhya.

PM Modi said unprecedented opportunities are being created for small entrepreneurs, airlines, hotels and restaurants in the state.

Later, speaking about the investment scenario in India, PM Modi said the world now sees India as a guaranteed destination for better returns.

“Investors all over the world trust the policies and stability of the Indian government,” he said.

“Often we have seen that people avoid new investments near elections, but today India has broken this notion also,” he said, adding that investors from all over the world have full confidence in the stability of his government’s policies.

Speaking specifically about Uttar Pradesh, he said the state has transitioned from red-tapism to ‘red-carpet’ culture, under the ‘double-engine government’.

“During this period, Uttar Pradesh has not only experienced a significant decrease in crime rates but also a substantial increase in trading and business opportunities,” PM Modi noted. (ANI)

UP Has Transitioned From Red-Tapism To Red-Carpet Culture: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the BJP government has laid emphasis on both ease of living and ease of doing business in Uttar Pradesh and has worked towards saturation of welfare schemes which is “true justice and true secularism”.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony for investment proposals received during the UP Global Investors Summit 2023 (UPGIS 2023) held in February last year, the Prime Minister said the state has transitioned from red-tapism to red-carpet culture in the past seven years of double-engine government.

He said the state is taking rapid strides in development and has seen a significant drop in crime.

“In the past seven years since Uttar Pradesh got the ‘double-engine government’, the state has transitioned from red-tapism to ‘red-carpet’ culture. During this period, Uttar Pradesh has not only experienced a significant decrease in crime rates but also a substantial increase in trading and business opportunities,” he said.

“We have given equal importance to ease of living and ease of doing business in Uttar Pradesh. The purpose of double engine government is that no beneficiary is not left out of any government scheme,” he added.

The Prime Minister referred to the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and said the vehicle with “Modi’s guarantee” reached various parts of Uttar Pradesh so that there is a saturation of government welfare schemes.

“This is true justice, this is true secularism,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that Uttar Pradesh is receiving investment across sectors.

“We are gathered here with the resolve to build ‘Viksit Uttar Pradesh’ for ‘Viksit Bharat’. I have been told that through technology, lakhs of people from more than 400 Vidhan Sabha seats of UP are connected to this event…7-8 years back, we couldn’t even think that there could be such an atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh regarding investment and employment,” he said.

“There used to be news of crime, riots and snatching. At that time, if someone said that UP would be developed, perhaps nobody would have been ready to even hear that…Today, lakhs and crores of rupees of investment are coming into Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath also addressed the gathering. (ANI)

10 Yrs Of NDA Testimony To Courageous, Far-Reaching Decisions: Modi

Looking back at 10 years of the government at the Centre under his leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the past decade at the helm bears testimony to courageous and far-reaching decisions.

Addressing party leaders and supporters on the closing day of the BJP’s National Convention at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said, “The last 10 years of our government stands testimony to courageous and far-reaching decisions. We resolved tasks that had been pending for centuries. We fulfilled a dream and a wish going back five centurues by building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The country, in general, and Jammu and Kashmir in particular, were rid of Article 370 after nearly seven decades. Also, it took us six decadaes after independence to rename ‘Rajpath’ as ‘Kartavya Path’. The demand for ‘One Rank, One Pension’ was also fulfilled after four decades by our government,” PM Modi said.

Expanding on the signifcance of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, a legislation aimed at raising the representation of women in Parliament and state legislatures, Prime Minister Modi said, “We brought a law that guarantees more reservation for women in the Parliament as well as state legislative assemblies after three decades. We also showed the courage to implement a law that puts an end to the practice of Triple Talaq (among Muslims). The requirement for a new Parliament House had been felt by many for long. It was our government that fulfilled this long-pending requirement.”

PM Modi further said the BJP workers are fortunate to have witnessed ‘revolutionary changes’ across the country over the last 10 years.

“The BJP workers are fortunate to have witnessed revolutionary changes over the past 10 years of our government. Any country can progress and reach its promised place when the people come to appreciate and cherish its heritage and history. During our decade in governance, the country has not only come to cherish its heritage but also flaunt it with pride,” PM Modi said.

Earlier, on the inaugural day of the national convention on Saturday, the BJP passed a significant political resolution titled ‘Viksit Bharat’, highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led NDA at the Centre under Prime Minister Modi. It added that the BJP would return for a third term at the helm and carry forward its roadmap for holistic development and welfare.

With the Lok Sabha polls around the corner, the BJP National Convention was aimed at fleshing out the party’s strategy and charging up cadres ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)

Our Govt Has Done More For Farmers: Rajnath

As protesting farmers continued to mass and hold their ground on Delhi’s borders on Saturday, amid attempts at a breakthrough in talks with the Centre, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered them as his family members.

Addressing the BJP’s ongoing national convention at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, Rajnath said the NDA government has done more for farmers and the agriculture sector than all previous governments at the Centre.

The Defence Minister said the BJP’s roadmap for the country’s development will be before the people once the party is elected for a third, straight term at the Centre.

“A lot has been done over the last 10 years of this government in the interest of farmers. The highest input cost for farmers is the one that goes into purchasing and sourcing fertilisers. Across the world, today, a bag of urea is priced at Rs 3,000 but in our country, it is available at Rs 300 per bag. The budgetary allocation for the agricultural sector used to be Rs 25,000 crore before 2014. However, it has since been increased to Rs 1,25,000 crore. Nearly Rs 18 lakh crore has been received by farmers in the form of MSP in the last 10 years. Our government has given 2.5 per cent more MSP to the farmers. Also, till now, farmers have received Rs 2,80,000 crore under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Under PM Safal Bima Yojana, they paid Rs 30 crore in premiums and successfully claimed Rs 1.5 lakh crore,” Rajnath said.

“Today, India’s agricultural export has reached Rs 4 lakh crore. I previously served the country as the Agriculture Minister and can say with full confidence that our government has done more for the farmers than all previous regimes at the Centre combined. For PM, farmers are no less than his family members. He has always been very sympathetic towards the problems and distress faced by our farmers,” the Raksha Mantri added.

He stated further that under the Centre’s ‘Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme’, Rs 3 lakh crore in public wealth was saved from falling into the wrong hands.

“Our government strove relentlessly to transfer the money (allocated under central initiatives) to the account of every beneficiary under the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme. The result was that Rs 3 lakh crore in public money was saved from falling into the wrong hands. In 2014, startups in India numbered only between 300-500. Today, the number has grown upwards of 1,20,000. Mobile manufacturing, too, has gone up five times in just the last 10 years. To ensure ease of doing business, 40,000 compliances have either been removed or simplified. Capital expenditure has gone up five times in 10 years to Rs 10 lakh crore,” Rajnath said.

He noted further that more than 25,000 railway tracks have been laid and more than 1300 railway stations have seen an overhaul under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ Scheme.

“The length of the high-speed corridor, which was 500 km 10 years ago, has today increased to more than 4000 kms. Nearly two lakh gram panchayats in the country have been connected with optical fibre. Under Ayushman Bharat, more than Rs 1 lakh crore has been set aside for the poor. A discount of 80 per cent on medicines is also available at PM Jan Aushdi Kendras. It has saved the poor save Rs 30,000 crore in medical expenses,” he added.

“Today the poor are getting loans without guarantees. They are part of the guarantees of PM Modi,” Rajnath said.

In a veiled swipe at the TMC government in West Bengal over the violent crackdowns on Opposition protests and allegations of excesses on women in Sandeshkhali, the Defence Minister said such incidents are a blot on a civilized society.

“Whatever happened in Sandeshkhali is reprehensible. I commend our workers, who are fighting for the distressed women of Sandeshkhali in the face of state oppression and tyranny. Such incidents are a blot on a civilised society. It should be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said. (ANI)

Modi Congratulates Ashwin On Extraordinary Milestone Of 500 Test Wickets

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated India’s spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin for an “extraordinary milestone”– of 500 Test wickets.

Ashwin on Friday added another gem to his crown as he became only the second Indian after legendary spinner Anil Kumble to reach the landmark of 500 wickets in Tests.

The star spinner achieved the feat during the ongoing third Test against England. He was on 499 scalps at the end of the second Test in Vizag and completed his 500th with the wicket of Zak Crawley on Day 2 of the third Test.

Prime Minister said Ashwin’s journey and accomplishments are a testament to his skill and perseverance.

“Congratulations to Ravichandran Ashwin on the extraordinary milestone of taking 500 Test wickets! His journey and accomplishments are a testament to his skill and perseverance. My best wishes to him as he scales further peaks. @ashwinravi99,” PM Modi posted on X.

Ashwin became the second-fastest bowler to 500 Test wickets, achieving the feat in 98 Tests. He bettered compatriot Anil Kumble (105 Tests) and is only behind the legendary Muttiah Muralidaran (87) in the list.

The star spinner could play an important role in the remainder of the Test match even as England tries to push ahead with the momentum on the back of opener Ben Duckett’s 118-ball 133*.

Earlier, centuries from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja’s as well as crucial lower-order runs–including 37 from Ashwin’s bat–propelled India to 445.

However, England’s fiery response with the willow put the hosts on the back foot going into Day 3.

At Stumps on Day 2, England were sitting pretty at 207/2, going at a run-a-ball rate and trailing India by just 238 runs. (ANI)

We Should Be Allowed To Protest Peacefully: Farmer Leader Pandher

We want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold a dialogue with farmers or else we should be allowed to protest peacefully, said the General Secretary of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarvan Singh Pandher, as the farmers’ protest escalates into a full-blown crisis.

Pandher told ANI on Thursday, “We have a meeting with the Union ministers today. We want PM Modi to have a conversation with them so that we can solve our demands.”

Stating that India is a democratic country, he said, “We should be allowed to protest peacefully in the National Capital. The government should remove the blockades at all entry points.”

The meeting of the Farmers unions and the central government is scheduled for 5 pm on Thursday. Sarvan Singh Pandher said that the unions are hopeful of a resolution.

“We are going to attend the meeting in a completely positive mood today and we have full confidence that a positive solution will emerge from this meeting…” Pandher said.

The farmers have put forth 12 demands before the central government for which they’re marching to Delhi. The protest this time has been called by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee led by farmer union leaders Jagjeet Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher.

Ex-Navy Men on Death Row

Ex-Navy Men On Death Row In Qatar Return India, Laud PM

Former Indian Navy personnel who landed at the Delhi airport on Monday morning raised chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal intervention in their case following their release from a Qatar court after months of detention in the Gulf country.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced early Monday morning the release of the Indian nationals who were detained in Qatar.

“The Government of India welcomes the release of eight Indian nationals working for the Dahra Global company who were detained in Qatar. Seven out of the eight of them have returned to India. We appreciate the decision by the Amir of the State of Qatar to enable the release and home-coming of these nationals,” the statement said.

The men- Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, Commander Amit Nagpal and Sailor Ragesh- were detained in August 2022.

On December 28, 2023, Qatar’s Court of Appeal commuted the death penalty awarded to all eight men in October, 2023.

As the former Indian Navy personnel landed in Delhi, their happiness could not be contained. They said that they wouldn’t have been freed had it for the sustained diplomatic efforts at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s behest to secure their release.

On the sidelines of the COP 28 climate sustainability summit in Dubai in December last year, PM Modi met the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad and had a ‘good conversation’ about the well-being of the Indian community in Qatar. In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi posted a picture with Qatar’s Emir and wrote, “On the sidelines of the #COP28 Summit in Dubai yesterday, had the opportunity to meet HH Sheikh @TamimBinHamad, the Amir of Qatar. We had a good conversation on the potential of bilateral partnership and the well-being of the Indian community in Qatar.”

Speaking to ANI, one of the Navy veterans lauded PM Modi for raising their sentencing with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and said, “I feel relieved and delighted to finally be back home safe and sound. I wish to thank Prime Minister Modi as this wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for his personal intervention to secure our release. I also wish to express my gratitude to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar”

Wearing a relieving smile and a calm demeanour, another released former naval officer told ANI, “Without the intervention of PM Modi, we would not have walked free. We wouldn’t be standing before you today had it not been for his untiring efforts and interventions at the highest levels to get us freedom.”

Another freed navy veteran also came out in praise of the Centre’s intervention in securing their release.

He said, “We, as well as our anxious family members back home, had been waiting for this day for a long time. It all worked out because of PM Modi and his personal intervention in the matter. He took up our case with the highest levels of the Qatari government and eventually secured our release. I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude to him and the Emir of Qatar.”

“We are very happy to be back and it wouldn’t have been possible had the honourable Prime Minister not taken personal interest in the matter. I also thank the Qatar Emir for his personal involvement in the matter,” another former Navy officer told ANI.

“We waited almost 18 months to be back home to our loved ones in India. We are extremely grateful to PM Modi for getting us back. We wouldn’t have seen this day without the joint efforts of PM Modi and the Emir of Qatar. The personal equations that the two leaders share also helped in our release,” another Navy veteran told ANI after landing in Delhi.

Amid desperate pleas by the anxious kin of the Navy veterans to secure their release and safe passage back to their homeland, the Ministry of External Affairs had assured that it would mobilise all diplomatic channels and arrange legal assistance to bring them back. (ANI)
