Nehru for country's unity: AK Antony

India should go back to basic ideas of Nehru for country’s unity: AK Antony

Senior Congress leader AK Antony on Monday said India should go back to the basic ideas that were given by Jawaharlal Nehru, adding that is the only saving position for keeping the unity of the country.

“Indian National Congress believes that all those who live in India but speak different languages, and follow different customs must get equal protection,” senior Congress leader AK Antony said addressing the media persons in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram.
“Religion is a reality but the Congress and the Constitution believe in protecting all of them. Every person must be treated equally by the Government of India,” Antony said further adding that the country should go back to the basic principles held by the former Prime Minister of India.

“India should go back to the basic ideas that were given by Jawaharlal Nehru that is the only saving position for keeping the unity, diversity, peace, progress, and Integrity of India,” he added.

Antony named the principles of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as– Dams and related business, agricultural growth, scientific temper, federalism, strong center, strong states, strategic autonomy, and nonalignment– and mentioned that with these policies India became a friend of all. All his principles are written in Constitution, he said.

Emphasizing that economical inequality should end in the country, he also said that the fight in the name of the language is unfair.

“India should not fight in the name of the language. When there was a demand for Dravidstan in Tamil Nadu, Nehru told Tamil people not to worry and assured of the implementation of three languages so that all languages are protected,” Antony said.

“Congress is not against Hindi. It is the language of the country but regional languages are also required. Implementing Hindi everywhere will only cause harm. The opposition to Hindi is getting stronger in the state,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31 said that in the past, forces that were perturbed due to India’s progress still exist and campaigns are being run to make one Indian language an enemy of another.

Notably, PM Modi’s statement on that day had come in the backdrop of controversy over the recommendation of a parliamentary panel to make Hindi the medium of instruction in central educational institutions, over which Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Narendra Modi on Gujrat Polls

Cong Betrayed People Of HP: Modi in Sujanpur

In his second political rally in a day in the hill state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the public in Himachal’s Sujanpur.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, he noted that it had left with no power in the area which was considered the party’s stronghold.
“The condition of Congress is deteriorating day by day. The area which was once considered Congress’s stronghold, they have been completely wiped out from there. Congress has a history of false promises and false guarantees,” he said.

Himachal Pradesh will go to the poll on November 12 and the results coming out on December 8.

He accused Congress of betraying the people of Himachal Pradesh during their rule.

“The people of Himachal are the biggest sufferers of the betrayal and deceit committed by Congress during their rule for many years. Whereas BJP has made constant efforts to provide basic facilities to every doorstep of Himachal,” he said adding, “The people of Himachal have understood the reality Congress very well
.
Congress feels that Himachal will always run on its five-year formula. That’s why Congress leaders don’t care about Himachal and its people.”

He further said that the BJP was doing great in the region where it was considered weak.

“Today the people of Himachal and the entire country have great faith in the BJP. The country’s trust in the BJP is getting stronger. Just two-three days ago, the results of the by-elections have come in some states of the country. Where the BJP was once considered weak, people have bloomed lotus flowers in large numbers,” Modi said.

Modi also said that the government was giving a lot of encouragement to the women in the security forces.

“Post-independence till 2014, there were around 1 lakh daughters in the police service in the country. In the last 8 years, this number has increased to about 2.25 lakh. Cong Against National Security, Development: Modi In Himachal

Stepping into the BJP’s election campaign in poll-bound Himachal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked the Congress party and stated that the party has not only been “against national security” but also the development of the country.

Addressing the first election rally in Himachal’s Mandi, the Prime Minister raised the issue of defence deals during the Congress regime at the Centre and said that the party always “wanted a commission” in every deal which led to the delay in the procurement of weapons for the armed forces.
“After independence, the first scam of the country was done by the Congress in the defence sector itself. Since then, till the Congress government was in place, it took a lot of brokerage in defence deals. Congress never wanted the country to become self-reliant in terms of defence equipment. It wanted a commission in every defence deal and wanted to fill its own leaders’ treasure. This is why the procurement of weapons was delayed,” PM Modi said.

He said that India is running a campaign to become Aatmanirbhar.

“Congress put numerous lives in danger due to compromised defence deals. I won’t let this injustice happen to the mothers and daughters of Himachal. This is why India is running a campaign to become Aatmanirbhar and stressing on manufacturing its own weapons. Congress has not just been against national security, but also the development of the country. I have felt it as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a number of years,” the Prime Minister said.

He said that making “false promises” and giving “false guarantees” has been an old trick of Congress while accusing the party of not giving priority to the development of Himachal.

“Congress never gave priority to the development of Himachal. Congress did not fulfil a single promise they mentioned in the 2012 elections manifesto. BJP has fulfilled its promises made to the people. BJP had resolved to scrap Article 370 from J-K, and we fulfilled it. The BJP had resolved to make Ram Mandir. The decision was taken in Palampur in the working committee. Is Ram Mandir being constructed or not?” PM Modi said.

“We gave free vaccines. If there was a Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, then vaccines would have reached Himachal Pradesh at last. You (public) voted on the right button and that’s why so much development happened,” he added.

Calling the Assembly elections which are slated to be held in the state on November 12 “important”, the Prime Minister said that the vote cast in this poll will decide the “development journey of the state for the next 25 years.

“This time the elections are very important, because the vote that you will cast on November 12 will not only be for the next five years, but every single vote decides the development journey of Himachal for the next 25 years. A stable government and fast development are necessary in the state during Amrit Kaal. People know that BJP means stability, and priority to development. People of Himachal have decided to form BJP government again,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister assured to continue working for the people of the state.

“I have been working for you for the last five years, I want to continue doing it. I promise as the son of this land that I won’t lag behind. What would happen if you bring such people who do not let the work proceed, then what would happen? No matter how much I exert pressure from Delhi, would there be a stoppage or not?” he said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed in Sundernagar, Mandi upon his arrival here.

Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur felicitated PM Modi ahead of his public address.

The polling for the assembly elections will take place on November 12 and the counting of votes will be on December 8. (ANI)

Modi Hands Over Keys Of EWS Flats To Slum Dwellers

Highlighting the welfare policies of the central government for the poor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said today marked a historic day as several citizens staying in Jhuggi-Jhopdi clusters in Delhi will now have their own houses.

Prime Minister on Wednesday inaugurated 3,024 newly constructed EWS flats at Kalkaji, Delhi built for rehabilitating slum dwellers under the ‘In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project.

PM Modi also handed over keys to eligible beneficiaries from Bhoomiheen Camp at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

Addressing the gathering at the event, the Prime Minister said, “Today is a big day for thousands of slum dwellers. A new beginning to life. As I handed over the keys to eligible beneficiaries, I could see their happy and joyous faces.”

He said the campaign was started to provide pucca houses to the poor families of Delhi. In the first phase of the Kalkaji Extension alone, he said more than 3,000 houses have been built. Very soon the rest of the families living there will get their new houses.

PM said when there is security ensured in the lives of the marginalized section, they get a sheer boost to further fight poverty themselves. They feel empowered more than ever before.

“Other families residing here will also get a chance to housewarming very soon. I have faith that these efforts by the central government will play a key role in making Delhi an ideal city. Our government is paying equal attention, especially to the urban poor,” PM said.

He said the goal of the central government is to make Delhi a wonderful city laced with modern facilities.

Referring to the extension of the Delhi Metro, PM Modi said, “When our government came in 2014, the metro used to run only on 190 km route in Delhi-NCR. Today, the expansion of the metro in Delhi-NCR has increased to about 400 km.”

With the aim to take development to the grassroots, Prime Minister said the central government ensured financial inclusion for all those who did not have access to bank accounts. He said the Centre has included all those belonging to the unbanked and uninsured section of society

He further said, “There had been existing stark differences among the residents of this same place – Delhi. But now the country has marched into the Amrit Kaal, and the Mantra of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Prayas has been ensuring welfare for all.”

PM Modi said the poor used to face difficulties in getting ration due to the inconsistencies related to the ration card.

“We are ensuring ‘Ease of Living for the poor in Delhi through ‘One Nation, One Ration Card. In the time of this global crisis, the central government has been giving free ration to lakhs of poor people in Delhi for the last two years,” he said.

The Delhi Development Authority has undertaken three such projects at Kalkaji Extension, Jailorwala Bagh, and Kathputli Colony.

Under the Kalkaji Extension Project, in-situ Slum Rehabilitation of three slum clusters namely Bhoomiheen Camp, Navjeevan camp, and Jawahar camp located at Kalkaji is being taken up in a phased manner.

Under Phase I, 3024 EWS flats at the nearby vacant commercial center site have been constructed. The Jhuggi Jhopri site at Bhoomiheen Camp will be vacated by rehabilitating eligible households of Bhoomiheen camp to the newly constructed EWS flats.

Post vacation of Bhoomiheen Campsite, in Phase II, this vacated site will be utilized for rehabilitation of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp.

“Phase I of the Project has been completed and 3024 flats are ready to move in. These flats have been constructed at a cost of about Rs. 345 crores and are equipped with all civic amenities including finishing having been done with vitrified floor tiles, ceramics tiles, Udaipur green marble counter in the kitchen, etc. Public amenities have also been provided. The allotment of flats will provide the people ownership title as well as a sense of security,” said a statement from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). (ANI)

Sachin Pilot Targets Modi-Gehlot Chemistry, Draws Parallels With GN Azad

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi heaped praise on Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot termed it as a “very interesting” development that “should not be taken lightly.”

“The PM had similarly praised Ghulam Nabi Azad in Parliament. We saw what happened after that,” Pilot said.
Talking to reporters here, Pilot said, “We all witnessed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s praises during his visit to the Mangarh Dham, We all have seen similar things, earlier in the Rajya Sabha as well when the PM heaped praises on former Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad on his farewell day. Everybody knows what happened after that. It is an interesting development yesterday and should not be taken lightly.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Mangarh Dham in Rajasthan and shared the dias with Gehlot at the event “…When PM Modi goes abroad, he receives great honor. Because he is PM of the nation of Gandhi, where democracy is deep-rooted. When the world realizes this, they feel proud that the PM of that country is coming to them…,” Gehlot said.

Addressing the event, PM Modi recalled his days as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. “Ashok ji (Gehlot) and I had worked together as CMs. He was the most senior in our lot of CMs. Ashok ji is still one of the senior-most CMs among those who are sitting on the stage right now,” he said.

Meanwhile talking to reporters here today, Pilot also said that the time has now arrived “to take action against indiscipline” and sought action against errant MLAs of Rajasthan.

The pilot said MLAs who have been served notices should be told to file their replies. “Congress is an old party… I request the new president to take action against indiscipline,” he said.

“As far as Rajasthan is concerned, a CLP meeting called on September 25 couldn’t be held. AICC considered it a matter of indiscipline…Rules same for all. So, if indiscipline occurred and replies were given, action should be taken. I believe party chief Mallikarjun Kharge will take a decision soon,” Pilot said.

In the run-up to the nomination for Congress president election, Gehlot was forced to bow out of the process after Congress MLAs supporting Gehlot did not attend a Congress Legislature Party meeting on September 25. (ANI)

Morbi Bridge Collapse: Oreva Group Manager Calls It An Act of God

In a major turn in the Morbi bridge collapse case in Gujarat, the Additional Public Prosecutor of the case made a huge revelation, saying that one of the accused managers of the Oreva company cited an ” Act of God” in the court as a reason for the tragic mishap.

“One of the two managers of Oreva company (that have been arrested) told the court that it is an ‘Act of God,” said Additional Public Prosecutor, Advocate HS Panchal.
Another major revelation came up to the fore that the cable wires of the bridge were not in the ideal condition to be opened for the general masses and were “rusting away”.

“In the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, the Investigating Officer (IO) said that the cable (of the bridge)was rusting away. The Investigating Officer says that only flooring of the bridge was done and the cables were not changed, oiling-greasing also wasn’t done,” Advocate HS Panchal said. Adding that Prima facie, the FSL officer says that it was an old cable.

Asked about details of the accused sent to police custody today, Panchal said, “Out of the 4 people who were sent to Police custody, two are managers at Oreva Co and two others did fabrication work for the bridge. The five others who were sent to judicial custody are security personnel and ticket vendors.”

“In the report, the Investigating Officer (IO) stated that the tender process did not take place and contract was directly allotted,” Advocate Panchal further said.

Out of nine persons arrested pertaining to the October 30 collapse of the century-old suspension bridge, killing 135 people, Gujarat’s Morbi Court on Wednesday has sent four people to police custody and the remaining five into judicial custody till November 5.

Of the four persons in police custody, two are managers of the Oreva company, which threw the bridge open for visitors after seven months of maintenance works, and the other two are fabrication work contractor’s people.

Speaking on the ongoing investigation, Rahul Tripathi, SP Morbi, said, “We are questioning all the four accused in our custody and we are trying to establish the liability of the different kinds of lapses in the bridge renovation. We are doing a thorough investigation and if anyone’s role comes forward, he or she will be booked and arrested.”

He added further, “Yes, We have given a scientific report to the court but details of the same can’t be shared with you at this stage as this will hamper our investigation.”

The Gujarat Police has filed a First Information Report under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the bridge collapse tragedy.

Earlier, the Gujarat government constituted a five-member committee to probe the bridge collapse incident.

“An FIR has been registered against the maintenance and management agencies of the bridge, under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and 114 (abettor present when the offense is committed) of the India Penal Code,” said Morbi B Division Police Inspector, Prakashbhai Dekavadiya.

Briefing media persons here, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said, “The death toll in the Morbi hanging bridge collapse incident has gone up to 132. The Chief Minister has constituted a high power committee yesterday itself while leaving Ahmedabad. All officers, posted at different locations, were asked to report at Morbi by 2 am. The investigation is going on.”

The Gujarat Home Minister further informed that a criminal case has been registered in connection with the incident.

“An investigation has begun today under the leadership of Range IGP,” Sanghavi said. Everyone worked all through the night. The Navy, NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force), Air Force, and Army arrived at the spot quickly. More than 200 persons have worked the entire night for search and rescue operations,” Sanghavi said.

At least 135 people, including women and children, were killed and over 100 are receiving treatment for their injuries sustained after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on Sunday, plunging people into the Machchhu River.

The search and rescue operation is underway in the Machchhu river.

“According to the information received from the district administration, one or two people are still missing. We are carrying out search operation along with other agencies. 5 teams of NDRF are working here,” Prasanna Kumar, NDRF commandant said today. (ANI)
