Moon Is Not The Limit: Goyal On India-UAE Investments

Elaborating on UAE’s interest in investment in India, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in the days ahead a significant flow of investments both in public markets and in the manufacturing and services sector will be witnessed adding, “even moon is not the limit.”

In an exclusive interview with ANI in Abu Dhabi, Piyush Goyal said, “While at one point in time, we would say the sky is the limit, I can say now even the moon is not the limit.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal was in UAE to co-chair the 11th Meeting of the India-UAE High-Level Joint Task Force to boost investments between the two countries.

He said, “They are very keen to invest in infrastructure projects, projects related to education and healthcare. They are looking at food and food processing in a very big way…The airline sector and the entire aviation ecosystem also hold a lot of promise. In the days ahead, we will see a significant flow of investments both in public markets and in the manufacturing and services sector, in pharmaceuticals, roads and highways, ports, other infrastructure activities.”

Goyal was present during India and UAE signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the cooperation in the field of Industries & Advanced Technologies and both countries also signed agreement for National Payments Corporation of India’s international arm to partner with UAE for developing a Domestic Card Stack similar to RuPay.

This MoU will facilitate the users of both the countries which would be as seamless as a domestic transaction using a beneficiary identifier (mobile number/VPA).

Speaking on the development Union minister said “We have also signed a MoU with the UAE on advanced technologies, on collaborative research, on working towards strengthening the intellectual property systems, on sharing of science and technology policies, and working towards harmonisation of standards, legal metrology, conformity assessment, accreditation. Both these milestone decisions today will help the Indian businesses, will help our trade expand in UAE, which will help attract more investments from UAE to India. We have also had extensive discussions around creating food parks in India, creating industrial parks both in India and in the UAE.I have just completed discussions with the Reserve Bank and the Central Bank.”

The agreement also aims to enhance the transparency for the users through upfront display of remittance amount in both the currencies with applicable charges. Among the salient feature of the agreement is integrating Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India and Instant Payments Platform (IPP) of the UAE, to process cross-border transactions between the two countries more efficiently.

Goyal co-chaired the 11th India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments with Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, MD of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and he said, “In all, this 11th high-level task force on investments has been full of outcomes. I am very confident that this will set in force a new era of partnership between the two countries, of expanding the scope and the width of investments from the UAE to India and certainly create millions of new jobs in India.”

Terming the India-UAE partnership as, unprecedented, Goyal added, “The United Arab Emirates and India share a strategic partnership which is unprecedented. Never before in the history of our relations have we had as many exchanges as we have had in the last few years.”

This MoU will enter into force from the date of its signature. It will remain in force for three years, and thereafter automatically renews for an equivalent period, unless either party expresses its intention to terminate it, through sending a prior written notification to the corresponding Party through diplomatic channels, at least six months before the termination date, a joint statement said. LS,RS Face Adjournments Amid Opposition Demands On Manipur situation

Opposition parties continued their protest in the two Houses of Parliament over their demands relating to the debate on the Manipur situation with both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seeing adjournments on Monday.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 12 noon and then till 2 pm.
In Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar suspended Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Monday for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament for “repeatedly violating” the Chair’s directives.

The Chairman first named Sanjay Singh for interrupting the proceedings of the House when it had taken up the Question Hour amid protests by the Opposition over its demand for a statement from Prime Minister on the Manipur violence and a detailed discussion on the issue.

Sanjay Singh came near the Chairman’s podium over opposition demands. Dhankhar told him to resume his seat. As the AAP member kept protesting, the Chairman named him.

Soon after the Chairman named Sanjay Singh, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved a motion urging the Chair to suspend the AAP member, saying this kind of behaviour “is completely against the ethics and rules of the House.”

Sanjay Singh should be suspended from the entire session of the House, he said.

The Chairman put the motion for approval of the House and said  Sanjay Singh was being suspended for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament “for having repeatedly violated the directives of the Chair”.

The Chairman then adjourned the House till 2 pm.

Dhankhar had last week cautioned Sanjay Singh, saying that he will be forced to name the AAP member after he repeatedly protested against the proposed bill to replace the Centre’s ordinance for control over services in Delhi.

Dhankhar had cautioned Sanjay Singh after urging AAP members to take their seats as he briefed the House about the proceedings of the Business Advisory Committee.

AAP has been among opposition parties demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament on the situation in Manipur and a detailed discussion on the issue.

The government has said it is prepared to discuss the situation in Manipur.

Lok Sabha witnessed protests and sloganeering from opposition members over their demand for a discussion on the Manipur situation and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The House briefly took up Question Hour before it was adjourned till 12 noon.

As soon as House met for the day, opposition members were on their feet over their demand. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary demanded that the Prime Minister should make a statement in the House on the situation in Manipur.

Speaker Om Birla said that the House is ready for discussion and the opposition parties cannot decide who will reply to the debate.

Birla said Deputy Leader of the House Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has already said that the government is ready for discussion.

Rajnath Singh spoke briefly and said that there should be discussion in the House on Manipur situation and the government is ready.

Birla said that a solution will be found through discussions.  “The House is for debate. Have you been sent by people to display placards, resort to sloganeering. This is Question Hour,” he told opposition members

The Speaker said that the matter can be discussion after Question Hour.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that the government was willing for discussion and the opposition parties were trying to interrupt the proceedings of the House.

Opposition members displayed placards which expressed concern over the situation in Manipur and sought statement from the Prime Minister in the House.

The House briefly proceeded with the Question Hour amid protests and sloganeering by opposition members befofe it was adjourned till 12 noon.

Opposition members continued their protest when the Houser resumed proceedings at 12 noon.

The House briefly took up government’s legislative agenda among sloganeering by opposition members.

The government withdrew DNA  Technology (Use and Application)  Regulation Bill,  2019.

Three bills – The National Dental Commission Bill, 2023, The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were introduced in the Lok Sabha.

As the protests continued, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 pm.  (ANI)

Sanjay Suspended From RS For Remainder Of Monsoon Session

AAP member Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha on Monday for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament for “repatedly violating directions of the Chair.”

The motion for Sanjay Singh’s suspension was moved by Union Minister and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal.
Chairman Jagadeep Dhankhar sought the approval of the House for the motion and said that Sanjay Singh was being suspended “for having repeatedly violated directive of the Chair”.

The AAP MP was suspended for the remaining duration of the Monsoon session during the Opposition’s protest in the House over the Manipur issue.
