Mafia Can’t Threaten Anyone In UP Now: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the mafia cannot threaten anyone in the state under the present BJP government.

The CM’s remark comes days after jailed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were gunned down in full media glare and amid heavy police presence in Prayagraj district.

The incident followed the death of Atiq’s fugitive son Asad in an exchange of fire with the UP Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi district earlier.

CM Adityanath made the statement while addressing the MoU signing programme at Textile Park in state capital Lucknow on Tuesday.

Claiming that the state was infamous for riots earlier, the CM said, “Between 2012 and 2017, more than 700 riots took place in Uttar Pradesh. However, from 2017 till 2023, not a single riot has happened in UP and neither has curfew been imposed in the state.”

“Earlier, the state suffered from an identity crisis. However today, criminals and mafias are in a crisis. Now gangsters and mafia cannot threaten businessmen over phone. Uttar Pradesh today promises a better law and order situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to list on April 24 the plea seeking to constitute an Independent Expert Committee under the chairmanship of a Former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the killing of Atiq and Ashraf, amid police presence.

Atiq Ahmed’s killers had a long connection with the crime and in their desire to become “popular”, they executed the killings on April 15 while the gangster-turned-politician and his brother Ashraf were in the custody of Uttar Pradesh Police in Prayagraj, sources said on Monday.

Atiq and Ashraf were killed by three assailants, who posed as mediapersons, while the gangsters were being taken for medical checkups at Prayagraj medical college.

The killers, identified as Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh and Lavlesh Tiwari, “wanted to become gangsters” and hatched a plot to kill Atiq, sources said earlier.

The police said they were in the process of ascertaining if someone else was also involved in the plan to kill Atiq and Ashraf. All three youths were arrested by the police at the scene of the shooting.

Atiq was shot at least eight times, with bullet injuries found in his head, neck and chest, according to preliminary results of an autopsy conducted on his body after his sensational murder caught on camera outside a hospital in Prayagraj on April 15.

Sources said on Monday three bullets pierced the body of Ashraf, Atiq’s brother, during the shootout that took outside the hospital where the police had taken them for a routine medical check-up. The gangster siblings collapsed on the spot after being shot from near-point-blank range.

According to sources, the initial postmortem report said Atiq was shot 8 times while Ashraf took 5 bullets. “Of the eight bullets that Atiq took, one hit his head, one his neck, one each on his chest, stomach and waist,” sources said.

Both Atiq and Ashraf were buried on April 16 at the Kasari Masari burial ground in Prayagraj.

According to the initial post-mortem report, Ashraf was shot in his neck, back and waist, with the bullets piercing his body.

The Uttar Pradesh government ordered a judicial probe in the wake of the killings. Uttar Pradesh Police also announced the formation of two special investigating teams (SITs) to probe the killings. (ANI)

After Ashraf Shot Dead, Tight Security Outside Umesh’s Residence

Security has been deployed outside the residence of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj after the mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in full media glare on Saturday night.

Atiq was accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005 and also in the subsequent killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the BSP’s leader’s murder, in February this year.

Yogi’s ‘Mitti Mein Mil Denge’ Claim To Blame For Atiq Killing: Ramgopal

Samajwadi Party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav, who reached Etawah on Sunday, held UP CM’ Yogi Adityanath’s “
Mitti mein mila denge
(will ground them to dust)” claim as being responsible for the killing of slain ganglord-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, claiming that his statement sent out a message that nothing will happen to those who takes out Atiq Ahmed.

“A tragic (Umesh Pal murder) incident had happened earlier in Prayagraj, after which the chief minister gave a statement that “he would turn mafias into dust”. So, this was an order from the CM which sent across a clear message to the killers. Atiq filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying he feared being killed in police custody and that’s how his end came.”
Yadav claimed that “many, who are close to the chief minister, are in contract with the state’s land mafia.”

Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath on Sunday demanded that the Supreme Court take cognizance of the brazen killing of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf on Saturday while being taken for a medical in Prayagraj.

“Supreme Court should take cognizance of the whole matter and pass an order to investigate it,” he said.

Questioning the prevailing law and order situation in UP, Kamal Nath said, “Today these murders are happening openly in broad daylight. What does this tell us about the law-and-order situation in UP? What happened in the largest state is unfortunate.”

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday, too, voiced concerns over the incident, saying that UP was in the grip of ‘jungle raj’ under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Sitaram Yechury took to Twitter to say, “Jungle Raj under BJP Yogi govt in UP. It’s USP: Encounter killings, Bulldozer politics and patronising criminals. Enforce rule of law; apprehend perpetrators and punish them stringently”. (ANI)

Owaisi on atiq killing

Not Scared To Visit UP: Owaisi On Atiq’s Killing

Coming down hard on the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the prevailing law and order situation in the wake of the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said it was necessary to prevent radicalisation, adding that he was not afraid to visit Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing the mediapersons on Sunday morning, Owaisi said, “I have always been saying that BJP in Uttar Pradesh is not running the government by the rule of law but by the rule of gun. Uttar Pradesh’s BJP government has a role in this. Supreme Court-monitored investigation should be done and a committee should be formed. No officer from Uttar Pradesh should be included in the committee. This was a ‘cold-blooded’ murder.”
He further said, “I am ready to die… Radicalisation needs to be stopped. I will surely visit Uttar Pradesh, I am not scared.
Jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya
(why fear death when you are loved).”

Calling the incident a “cold-blooded murder”, Owaisi added that people who are celebrating this killing are “vultures”.

“How did they (killers) get those weapons?… Why were they raising religious slogans after killing them? What will you call them if not terrorists? Will you call them Patriots? People celebrating this incident are vultures…” he said.

Owaisi said the incident raises a big question about the law and order situation.

The AIMIM chief questioned whether the public will have any faith in the constitution and law and order of the country after this incident.

He said, “We would like to ask the Prime Minister of the country whether you will say anything or not? The Prime Minister says in his speech that ‘meri supari li gayi hai’. Now tell what is happening in the state from where you are the Member of Parliament. Every citizen of India is feeling unsafe and vulnerable after yesterday’s incident.”

Owaisi further demanded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s resignation.

“I demand the resignation of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Supreme Court to form a team and investigate this matter. We also demand all police officers present there should be removed from service,” he said.

“Atiq and his brother were in police custody. He was handcuffed. JSR (Jai Shri Ram) slogans were also raised. The killing of both is the failure of Yogi’s law and order system. Those celebrating encounter raj are also responsible for this murder,” Owaisi added.

Days after Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, the gangster-turned-politician and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed, were killed on Saturday while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj.

Atiq Ahmed was accused in the 2005 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal murder case and also in the Umesh Pal murder case which happened in February this year. UP Police, has, so far, arrested a total of 3 shooters in this incident.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

“CM Yogi immediately called a high-level meeting and ordered a high-level inquiry into the whole matter. Chief Minister also gave instructions for the formation of a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) in the matter,” officials said.

Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday imposed Section 144 of CrPC in all the districts, in the aftermath of Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf Ahmed was shot dead in Prayagraj, officials informed.

Shortly after mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said crime has reached its peak in the state and the morale of the “criminals” has grown by leaps and bounds.

“Crime has reached its peak in UP and the morale of the criminals is high. When someone can be killed openly despite being surrounded by a security cordon, one can imagine the state of the general public. Due to this (alleged encounter killings), an ambiance of fear is being created among the public. It seems that some people are deliberately creating such an ambiance,” Akhilesh Yadav tweeted. (ANI)

Amit Shah Azamgarh

Azamgarh Used To Be Epicentre Of Terrorism Before 2017: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on Friday, hit out at the previous governments, saying that the district was called the “epicentre” of terrorism before 2017.

Alleging that Azamgarh’s image was destroyed by the previous governments, Amit Shah said that the Bhartiya Janata Party government in the state led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has led it to a new era.
“I still remember, when I was Gujarat Home Minister and a blast happened in Ahmedabad and when Police were arresting culprits, the mastermind behind the blast was caught from Azamgarh. Azamgarh’s image was destroyed by previous governments,” Shah said while addressing a public rally in Azamgarh.

He further said that Azamgarh used to face the problem of law and order, but now it is the centre of development now.

He further said that electricity used to be made available for 24 hours only during the month of Ramzan.

“I have stayed here in Uttar Pradesh during elections and there was no electricity in villages. People used to get 24-hour electricity only during the month of Ramzan. Now, the BJP government in the state has led to a new era after ensuring electricity round the clock,” the Union Minister said.

Earlier in Kaushambi, Shah took a jibe at Congress and said that it is not the democracy that is in danger, but it is casteism and dynastic politics (‘parivarwad’).

Saying that the people would not forgive the opposition parties for disrupting Parliament proceedings over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha based on legislation brought by the Congress-led UPA government.

“The country will not forgive opposition parties for disrupting Parliament proceedings over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification… Democracy is not in danger, it is casteism and dynastic politics (‘parivarwad’) which are in danger,” Amit Shah said addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Kaushambi Mahotsav.

Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Kaushambi Festival 2023 with CM Yogi Adityanath. On this occasion, both the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, were also present.

“Never in the history of independent India has the budget session ended without one proper discussion. The opposition members didn’t let Parliament function, the reason was Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a member. Rahul insulted India abroad. The people of the country see and understand this as well. Once again, the Modi government will cross 300,” he added. (ANI)

No Farmer Became Helpless, Died By Suicide In Last 6 Years: Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday flagged off 77 tractors for farm machinery banks set up in cooperative sugarcane and sugar mill societies.

“Today is going to be a historic day for the sugarcane farmers when on the eve of Holi, Rs 2 lakh crores will be sent directly to the farmers’ bank accounts through DBT,” CM Yogi said.

Prior to 2017, the state’s sugarcane farmers were compelled to burn their crops because of a lack of water for irrigation, electricity, and timely payment of their dues.

In the previous six years, no farmer in Uttar Pradesh became helpless and attempted suicide, said CM Yogi.

The Chief Minister added, “We have freed the sugarcane farmers from the brokers’ clutches, and today the farmers do not have to wander around in search of the slip because their slip arrives on their smartphone.”

He said that the state’s 77 sugarcane committees are receiving tractors and other equipment today. The happiness of sugarcane farmers will be doubled by receiving such a gift on the eve of Holi.

“We all know what the condition of sugarcane farmers was earlier. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, the farmer has for the first time been included in any government’s agenda and has begun to benefit from the government’s programs. Every farmer who was previously dependent on moneylenders is now able to benefit from the Soil Health Card, Kisan Bima Yojana, Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi”, CM Yogi said

Mentioning that now 2.60 crore farmers in the state are taking advantage of the facility of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi, he said, “Within the last three and a half years, we have done the work of transferring an amount of Rs 51,000 crores to their accounts.”

Asserting that a farmer is just a farmer and has no caste, creed, or religion, Yogi said, “We all know what was the situation in the state before 2017. There was no electricity and no water for irrigation. We have now provided irrigation facilities to 22 lakh hectares of land. Previously, farming was considered a loss-making venture due to a lack of water, fertilizers, and a fair market price for the product.”

“Today, UP was going to create a new record in the country, adding that sugarcane payments totalling more than Rs 2 lakh crores are now reaching farmers’ bank accounts for the first time. Many states in the country do not even have an annual budget of two lakh crores, he pointed out,” he added.

The CM went on to say that it is due to the efforts of sugarcane farmers that they are producing additional 10 tonnes of sugarcane per hectare. Apart from this, the area of sugarcane production has increased to 8 lakh hectares of additional land in the state today.

“In contrast to the previous governments, where sugar mills were closed or sold at throwaway prices, we did not shut down any sugar mill, and instead re-started the closed sugar mills. Munderwa and Pipraich sugar mills were made functional again. When the world’s sugar mills were shut down, Uttar Pradesh still had 119 sugar mills operating,” said Yogi.

He emphasized that during the Covid-19 period, when sanitisers were in short supply across the country, the government made sanitisers available at no cost to all municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh via these sugar mills. Along with this, sanitisers were made available in 27 states across the country.

The Chief Minister stated that his government paid the sugarcane price on time and procured wheat and paddy at the higher minimum support price. “For this more and more purchase centres were established. The instructions were clear: as long as the farmers had crops, the government would purchase them. No farmer will have to wander around. We have issued 284 licenses for the Khadsari units, which has resulted in job creation.”

The Chief Minister said that maximum green ethanol is being produced in the country through sugarcane farmers.

“Previously, our own money was spent in the form of terrorism against us under the name of the Petro Dollar. But now ethanol is being produced in farmers’ fields in the form of sugarcane and soon it will be seen being used in the form of diesel and petrol”, he remarked.

The CM stated that Uttar Pradesh currently is the largest producer of ethanol in the country.

“Today, our farmers are progressing by using mechanized farming. Apart from this, co-farming is being practised through FPO, enhancing the fertility of the land as well as profits of farmers,” CM Yogi remarked.

The Chief Minister cited the example of a progressive Bijnor farmer who, instead of selling his sugarcane to sugar mills, makes vinegar and markets it abroad.

He said that due to mechanized farming, today the stubble is mixed with the soil instead of being set on fire, contributing significantly to the farm’s fertility. Farming is being advanced through mechanization.

CM Yogi stated that 105 of the state’s 119 mills pay the sugarcane price within 10 days.

“We’ve also put pressure on the remaining 14-15. Where previously brokers were involved, the slip now arrives on the farmer’s smartphone. Those who used to exploit farmers have had their businesses shut down,” he added.

Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Minister Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan, Minister of State Sanjay Singh Gangwar, Chief Secretary Durgashankar Mishra, Agricultural Production Commissioner Manoj Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad were present on the occasion. (ANI)
