No Scope Of Complacency, Take Budget To Masses: Modi Tells MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs not to show any complacency and reach out to people on the ground.

Prime Minister Modi participated in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday. BJP national president JP Nadda felicitated Prime Minister on arriving for the meeting.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was also felicitated by Nadda for presenting the Union Budget 2023.

The weekly meeting of the BJP in the Parliament takes place every Tuesday when the House is in function.

Addressing fellow party MPs, PM Modi lauded his government’s effort to bring in a budget at a very difficult time, said sources.

He said the budget has something for every stratum of society. PM asked party MPs to take the budget to the people.

“It is a huge responsibility on behalf of the MPs to talk about the budget to their constituency and tell people what is in the budget for them and how this budget comes in at a time in the world is going through a major economic crisis,” sources said quoting PM Modi.

Prime Minister also asked BJP MPs to continue participating in various activities, including contests and sports to reach out to the youth and also to reach out to people in border district areas.

“Even if the BJP has been able to get a majority in 2014 and 2019 and public at large is happy with the efforts of the party. But, there is no scope for any complacency, and one must keep ear to the ground,” PM advised to party MPs.

The budget session of Parliament started on January 31 this year with the joint Address by President Droupadi Murmu. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2023-24 on February 1.

Since then there has been no business in Parliament because of the continued logjam over the Adani issue. The Opposition has demanded that the government should come up and respond in Parliament about the Adani stock issue following which disruption has been witnessed in both Houses.

Opposition parties are demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into the allegations of stock manipulation against the Adani Group.

The opposition parties also held a meeting on Tuesday to “decide the day’s strategy” regarding their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the Adani Issue.

However, the opposition parties are expected to end the deadlock in the Parliament today. After placing their demands, they can participate in the discussion on the President’s address, the final decision will be taken in the meeting of the opposition parties on Tuesday. (ANI)

No Scope For Religion Hate Crimes In A Secular Country: SC

The Supreme Court on Monday asserted that there is no scope for hate crime on basis of religion in a secular country such as India and stressed that it has to be rooted out.

A bench of justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna said that there is a growing consensus around hate speech.
“There cannot be any compromise on hate speech at all,” said the bench, adding that it is only if the State acknowledges the problem of hate speech that a solution can be found.

It is the primary duty of the State to protect its citizens from any such hate crimes, the bench stressed while hearing a plea against hate crimes.

“When action is not taken against hate crimes then an atmosphere is fostered which is very dangerous and it has to be rooted out from our lives. There cannot be any compromise on hate speech at all,” it observed.

The observation of the apex court came while hearing a plea of a Muslim man who has alleged that he was assaulted and abused in the name of religion on July 4, 2021, by a “screwdriver gang” of criminals as he had boarded a car to go to Aligarh from Noida.

The petitioner Kazeem Ahmad Sherwani alleged that the police has not bothered to register any complaint of hate crime.

“If a person comes to the police and says that I was wearing a cap and my beard was pulled and abused in the name of religion and still no complaint is registered, then it is a problem,” the bench proclaimed.

Justice Joseph said that be in a minority or majority, certain rights are inherent in human beings.

“You are born into a family and raised in one. We have no choice in our religion, but we stand out as a nation. That’s the beauty, the greatness of our nation. We have to understand this,” said Justice Joseph.

The apex court asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a detailed affidavit and posted the matter for further hearing on March 3. (ANI)

Bulldozer Should Be Last Resort: Omar Abdullah

Bulldozer Should Be Last Resort: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the ongoing demolition drive of illegal properties has caused chaos in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that bulldozers should be the last resort in such exercises.

“The use of bulldozers should be a measure of the last resort, not the first. On what basis is Chief Secy sending bulldozers when the government admitted in court that all lists of properties to be demolished that have come out are fake,” said Omar Abdullah while addressing a press conference.
Addressing a press conference, he demanded the list of properties to be demolished be put out in the public domain so that people can present their claims.

He further added that there is a way in which evictions should be carried out, the bulldozers were used without the information of the people living in the place.

“We don’t support the illegal occupancy of government land. But there is a way in which evictions should be carried out. We demand that lists of properties to be demolished be put out in the public domain so that people can present their claims,” said Omar Abdullah.

Omar Abdullah further claimed that no notice was served to anyone and the names in the list kept on changing.

“Since the list is not in the public domain the officers at the grassroots level are threatening people and have been asking for bribes. This has been the case in a lot of areas outside Srinagar as well. Nobody knows the truth and the procedure,” said Omar Abdullah.

He claimed that NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar’s property was demolished without any notice.

“There is a procedure that if the person doesn’t receive the notice, the same is pasted on the gate and none of the properties had the notice pasted,” he said.

He added that the issue will be raised in the parliament and such things can’t continue. (ANI)

LCA Navy Carries Out Maiden Landing On INS Vikrant

In a major success for made-in-India weapon systems, Indian Navy on Monday carried out the maiden landing of homegrown LCA(Navy) and MiG29K jets onboard the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.

The exercise also demonstrates India’s capability to design, develop, construct and operate Indigenous Aircraft Carrier with indigenous Fighter Aircraft.

Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral S N Ghormade termed it as a big achievement for ‘Make in India’ in the defence sector, saying that it will boost indigenisation.

“Indigenously developed fighter aircraft LCA Navy and the MiG-29K fighter aircraft today made their first landings on the country’s first made-in-India aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in the Arabian Sea. This is a big achievement for the Make in India in the defence sector and will boost indigenisation,” said Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral S N Ghormade told ANI.

The commissioning of India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier is a momentous occasion during the ‘Amritkaal’ of India’s 75 years of independence and signifies the country’s confidence and prowess stated a government release.

The indigenous aircraft carrier is proof of the country’s technical acumen and engineering skills. This demonstration of India’s self-sufficiency to produce an aircraft carrier warship will reinforce the country’s defence indigenisation programmes and the ‘Make in India’ campaign, the statement added.

INS Vikrant has a top speed of around 28 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with an endurance of about 7,500 nautical miles.

Cong Is A Sinking Ship, People Have Rejected Communist Rule: Shah

Cong Is A Sinking Ship, People Have Rejected Communist Rule: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday held a roadshow from ‘Ashram Chowmuhani’ to ‘Chowmuhani Mode’ at Banmalipur in Agartala.

Speaking to ANI during the roadshow, Shah reacted to the demand by the Tipra Motha Party for a Greater Tipra Land.
“The demand for the Tipra land was raised when the Communists were being unjust with the tribals. The BJP has brought about inclusive development, which also includes tribal communities. Tribals have got everything under the BJP,” he said.

Shah exuded confidence in forming the government once again in Tripura saying the BJP will return to power with a bigger majority than 2018.

“The double-engine government will return with a bigger majority than before,” he said.

The Home minister said massive crowd that turned up at his roadshow and public meetings shows the outpouring of people’s support for the BJP.

“Thousands of people are here. This shows that there is huge support for the BJP. Congress is a sinking ship and people have rejected violent Communist rule. BJP gave houses, electricity, drinking water, free ration and Covid vaccines to the people, across communities,” the Union Home minister said.

Earlier on Monday, Shah came down heavily on the CPI(M) and the Congress in poll-bound Tripura, saying that both the parties disregarded the interests of the people and the state.

Shah said both parties indulged in scams while in power and no allegation of corruption cannot be levelled against the BJP-led government in Tripura.

“Communists are criminals and the Congress is corrupt. Both have played with the people and the state. Assess the impact of about 30 years of Communist rule and 15 years of Congress rule and compare them with five-year rule under the BJP. You will get all the answers,” the Home minister said while addressing a public meeting here.

Shah claimed that the BJP has run a transparent government in the state and worked for the welfare of the poor.

“The Leftists indulged in scams and so did the Congress. Now, the two have come together. No one can level a single allegation of corruption at the BJP. Ours has been a transparent government under the leadership of Modi-ji, a government which has worked for the welfare of the poor,” he said.

Detailing the work done by the BJP government in the state, Shah said injustice against the tribal communities in the state is a thing of the past.

“Under the BJP government in Tripura, the crime rate in the state has decreased by 30 per cent. We never targeted any CPM worker but more than 250 BJP workers were killed between 2016-18. I am standing before you after 5 years, I can say with pride that the BJP has changed the face of Tripura after ending the 27-year-long misrule of the Communists. An orgy of violence went on in Tripura for 27 years and it wasn’t until the BJP came to power that things changed for the better. The injustice that was being done to our tribal brothers and sisters for 27 years came to an end after we formed the government,” he said.

“Work on making over 9,000 terrorists in the Northeast surrender and providing permanent settlements to the Bru-Reang refugees was done by the BJP,” Shah added.

Tripura will go to Assembly polls on February 16. The counting of votes will take place on March 2 along with those of Meghalaya and Nagaland. (ANI)
