I Spent Time With Biharis: Sonu On Chedi Singh’s Character

Sonu Sood believes that sometimes it takes time to prove your talent in the Hindi film industry. Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ gave him that fame which was unmatched by any of the Hindi films he had done at that time. Interestingly, he turned down the offer of ‘Chedi Singh’ before portraying it to perfection.

Why did Sonu initially turn down the offer of ‘Dabangg’? Speaking exclusively to ANI, Sonu said, “Director Abhinav Kashyap is my friend. He told me that I had to do the movie. Salman (Khan) also wanted me to do the part. The character was arrogant. Phad dunga-jaan lunga, aisa type character tha. I did not like that. So I moulded it.”
Sonu took two days and reshaped the character with a comical touch. “Uske sath ek photographer rakha. There was some realness to the character. (I put a photographer with him).”

Spilling the inside story, Sonu revealed that he has spent quality time with Bihari people, which helped him to rewrite the character. “College me bohat sare friends Bihar se the. My roommate was from Bihar. He used to keep a photographer with him at that time. I had a fascination for clothes. My roommate used to say, “Sonua, jab Punjab se aayoge, full pant, full shirt leke aana. (When you will come from Punjab, bring a full pant and full shirt with you.”

Sonu also said that he has a habit of taking down everything interesting he finds around him. “When I work on my films, I go through those pages.”

Chulbul Panday could not shine without Chedi Singh. Sonu ensured that through his acting and writing of the character in ‘Dabangg’. (ANI)

What’s Kareena Up To?

It’s ‘Africa Time’ for Kareena Kapoor Khan and her family. Since Tuesday, the actor has been treating her fans with glimpses from her vacation diary. On Wednesday, she posted a relaxed photo of herself on Instagram. Donning a blue denim jacket, Kareena seems to languish the leisurely hour. She captioned the frame, “What you doin?

Nothing…just hanging with my new friends… In the frame, wild animals are seen grazing in the field in the backdrop.

On Wednesday morning, Kareena shared another frame, where she was exuding glamour. She captioned the frame, “Under the African Sky.” Kareena’s colour of the jacket and the sky seemed to complement each other in that frame. In another picture, the ‘3 Idiots’ actor was seen accompanying her son Jeh. “Into the wild with my boy”, Kareena wrote in the caption.

Earlier, Kareena also wished Alia Bhatt a happy birthday with a catchy tagline. She wrote, “Happy Birthday to the best actress ever… love you so much Alia.. Sending you a big hug from your favourite place”. Fans can assume that this ‘fav place’ could be Masai Mara National Reserve, which Ranbir Kapoor and Alia prefer to visit.

Mamata To Visit Delhi To Meet Opposition

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit the national capital to meet the opposition parties over the alleged misuse of central agencies against them.

This comes after the showdown in the Parliament between the BJP-led central government and the Opposition parties regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the UK and the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee into the Hindunberg report against Adani.
A top Trinamool Congress leader told ANI that the party chief is likely to embark on a visit to Delhi, however, the schedule for the same is yet to be finalised.

“…but it is likely she will be in Delhi towards the end of March or early April,” the leader said.

However, the sources stated that the TMC chief meeting with the Congress leaders is unlikely.

“Those that the TMC chief is likely to meet when in the national capital include the political parties who issued a jointly signed letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the opposition being at the receiving end of the Central agencies,” sources said.

Notably, Mamata was among the signatories among the Opposition leaders who wrote the letter.

The leaders include BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah, AITC chief Mamata Banerjee, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

However, there were no representations from Congress, JDS, JD(U), and CPI(M) in the letter.

Several opposition leaders including Lalu Prasad Yadav and K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha are facing inquiries at the hands of these agencies and two ministers of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are currently lodged in jail.

The last time that Mamata Banerjee came to the national capital was during the G20 meeting called by the Centre of presidents of all political parties.

Earlier on March 5, in an attempt to echo the Opposition’s voice in unison, nine leaders of eight political parties wrote to PM Modi on the arrest of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case, and alleged that the “misuse” of the central agencies suggests that the country has “transitioned from being a democracy to an autocracy”.

“We hope you would agree that India is still a democratic country. The blatant misuse of central agencies against the members of the opposition appears to suggest that we have transitioned from being a democracy to an autocracy,” the leaders wrote. (ANI)

Pakistan Imran Khan

Lahore HC Suspends Imran’s Arrest Till 10 AM Tomorrow

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday stopped police operation to arrest former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan till 10 am tomorrow at Zaman Park, reported Dawn.

This development comes after a day-long escalation continued between PTI supporters and law enforcement agencies outside former prime minister Imran residence.
Contingents of police that were closing in on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park to arrest him for the last two days have started retreating.

PTI workers celebrated outside Zaman Park as law enforcement agencies pulled back. As per police, the court-ordered operation halted to accommodate Pakistan Super League matches, reported Dawn.

“Police will not advance on Khan’s residence until the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 8 cricket match is over,” sources quoted police officials as saying.

After the withdrawal of the police, PTI chief Imran Khan came out of his residence, in a mask, and met the workers. The video was shared on PTI’s Twitter account.

LHC’s Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, while hearing a petition filed by PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry seeking to stop the “atrocities” outside Zaman Park, passed these orders.

Earlier, the court had instructed the Punjab inspector general, chief secretary and Islamabad police (operations) head to appear in court by 3 pm, reported Dawn.

On Wednesday morning, Islamabad Police, backed by Punjab Police and Rangers resumed efforts — which began on Tuesday — to arrest the ex-premier in connection with the Toshkhana case. Imran has skipped indictment several times, which led to the judge issuing non-bailable arrest warrants for him.

However, they were met with strong resistance from PTI workers, who pelted stones at them. The police responded with volleys of tear gas.

Earlier today, following the police’s failure in arresting PTI Chairman Imran Khan, a large number of Punjab Rangers arrived at the former prime minister’s Zaman Park residence to implement court orders.

As per Geo News, the police and rangers reached the residence of the PTI leader at Zaman Park. The development came after police fired teargas in the area to disperse the PTI workers.

PTI supporters clashed repeatedly with police overnight while he remained holed up in his Zaman Park residence, defying attempts to arrest him. Meanwhile, the law enforcers had also arrested the PTI workers.

Police fought pitched battles with supporters of Khan’s PTI near his residence throughout the night, firing fusillades of teargas and dodging rocks thrown by angry crowds. (ANI)

‘It Is Unfortunate That Rajputs Have To Fight For Their Ancestry In Courts’

Kunwar Arunoday Singh Parihar, a descendant of Samrat Mihir Bhoj, is engaged in a legal battle against distortion of his ancestral history and state apathy to his clan. His views:

Distortion of Rajputs heritage is not a new thing in Indian history. However, when it is happens selectively against a particular clan and with the tacit support of the governments at the Centre and in the state, it reeks of a sinister agenda. I belong to the clan of Samrat Mihir Bhoj, the ninth century Kshatriya king of Pratihar dynasty who held sway over large parts in northern India.

Inscription of the Pratihar dynasty, which are now known as Pratihar, have been found across India. In some inscriptions, it has been written Gurjar Pratihar. The term Gurjar was adjoined because this organized community was the polity or the praja of Pratihar dynasty. It also denotes the location of the country under Pratihar rule, currently the state of Gujarat and some southern parts of Rajasthan. However, this adjoined term has now become a bone of contention for vested interests. And it carries dangerous designs.

We are proud Kshatriyas, also known as Rajputs. We have utmost respect for all communities but our association with the brave Gujjar community is now being used to deny us our own distinct heritage. What can be more unfortunate than a person being forced to go around fighting legal battles in a lengthy court process to prove one’s own ancestry?

I had to move court after a prefix ‘Gujjar’ was added to a plaque under the statue of Samrat Mihir Bhoj in Gwalior city. For reasons unknown to me, the role of Gwalior Municipal Corporation in this episode has been dubious. The municipal body which constituted a committee following the court’s order, ignored all historical facts presented by us and twisted select instances to weaken our case.

ALSO READ: ‘PM Must Intervene To Stop Distortion of Rajput History’

Thankfully, most royal clans have details of their family tree intact over generation. We too have all related documents. We don’t want our history to be distorted for political gains. Samrat Mihir Bhoj is the pride of India, who shall not be bound to or favourable to any caste. But at the same time, those indulging in distortion of history by claiming him to be a Gujjar, must be discouraged and corrected. When his descendants are alive, any attempt to misrepresent his heritage will be fought tooth and nail by his family.

In October 2021 before the assembly elections in UP, a local MLA of Dadri area of Uttar Pradesh had invited CM Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate a statue of Samrat Mihir Bhoj where again the plaque was misrepresented. It caused a massive outrage and the government had to drop the word Gujjar from the statue.

There is no rift between the Pratihar Rajputs and Gujjar community. However, by willfully raising such incidence, political leaders have tried to play one against the other. It is sad that in the 21st century when the world is progressing, we are stuck with such trivial issues. Distortion of history is dividing the communities and people are forced to struggle to save their ancestry from misrepresentation and misappropriation.

Chargesheet Against 15th Accused In Ekbalpore Communal Violence

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a fresh charge sheet against the 15th accused in West Bengal’s Ekbalpore Communal violence case that pertains to clashes between two communities on October 9 last year.

The agency named Md Zeeshan Akbar, a resident of Kolkata’s Khiddirpore, in the supplementary charge sheet filed before a special NIA court in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The agency in January this year had filed a charge sheet against 14 accused persons in the case, which pertains to the clash between members of two communities who engaged in brick-batting, stone-pelting and hurled bombs at each other.

It was found during the investigation that Akbar, alongwith other co-accused, had hatched a criminal conspiracy and had mobilised an ‘unlawful assembly’ with the intention to attack dwelling houses and shops of the Hindu community at Gali No. 8, Bhukailash Road, Mominpur, Kolkata by using crude bombs, petrol bombs, wooden sticks, brickbats and stones, said the NIA.

“The mob also disrupted the electricity supply in the area and prevented the Police Personnel from entering Gali No. 8, Bhukailash Road, Kolkata to control the riots. The mob also assaulted Police Personnel causing injuries to one of the police personnel,” said the agency.

The member of the two communities also deterred police personnel from discharging their official duties by physically assaulting them, damaging vehicles parked nearby and also attacked police personnel in the jurisdiction of Ekbalpore Police Station, Kolkata.

The case was initially registered on October 10 last year at Ekbalpur Police Station in, Kolkata, West Bengal and re-registered by the NIA on October 18 last year.

Those earlier named in the charge sheet included Md Fakruddin Siddique, Md Salauddin Siddique, Md Sahabuddin Siddique, Md Idul Siddique, Md Ziauddin, Badrul Hossain, Ohab Hossain, Mustafa Hussain, Zakir Hossain, Gholam Md Izhar, Md Faiyaz, Sunny, Raju and Imamul Haque.

All the 15 accused persons have been chargesheeted under sections 120B, 147, 149, 152, 332, 353 and 436 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.

The NIA’s first charge sheet was filed three days after it carried out searches at 17 locations in Kolkata in connection with the case and seized Rs 33.87 lakh in cash from the residence of three absconding accused.

The NIA sleuths conducted searches at these locations in Bhukailash Road in the Mominpur area of Kolkata.

During the searches, the NIA had claimed to seize a total amount of Rs 33,87,300 (Rs. 30,55,000 from the house of Md Salauddin Siddique, Rs 1,59,300 from the house of Zakir Hossain and Rs 1,73,000 from the house of Tipu; all three evading arrest), sharp-edged weapons and other incriminating items.

The NIA took over the case after the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalisation (CTCR) division of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed it to register an FIR and start a thorough probe considering the gravity of the case.

MHA’s order followed the direction of the Calcutta High Court in October while hearing a writ petition relating to the Ekbalpore-Mominpur communal violence. The Court ordered the state police to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising experienced police officials to probe into the incident.

The petitioners had approached the Court alleging that the State Police administration remained silent spectators to the communal violence that erupted in the Ekbalpore-Mominpur area of Kolkata on the eve of Laxmi Puja.

Accordingly, the petitioners prayed for the deployment of the Central Para Military Forces for maintaining peace in the aftermath of the violence, and for the transfer of the investigation of the crimes to the NIA, alleging the inefficiency of the State Police to investigate the matter in a fair manner. Not all kids from film families are unaffected but I think they have the biggest advantage of being unaffected because at some point ‘you will be like, wait a minute, I have been seeing all this since I was a freaking kid…why the hell I am being affected right now’ I don’t think any outsider can feel like that way. I have now learned to see my privileges,” he had said.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhay was recently seen in Netflix’s web series ‘Trial By Fire’, which portrays the gruelling legal battle and the unbelievably trying journey that ensues when two parents lose their children.
