Contest Assembly Polls Kichcha Sudeep

Will Only Campaign, Not Contest Assembly polls: Kichcha Sudeep

Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep on Wednesday said that he will campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections in Karnataka and dismissed speculations that he will contest as a candidate.

Talking to reporters at the Bengaluru airport here, the actor said, “I will only campaign for the BJP, not contest the elections.”
BJP sources had earlier said that the actor was likely to join the party today in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other party leaders. Assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on May 10.

Karnataka Transport Minister B Siramulu said that the BJP will benefit from the induction of the actor. “Kichcha Sudeep is a very popular leader, along with a popular actor. He is a very big artist in the whole country. His support to BJP will be of great benefit to our party”.

The Karnataka minister added that the inclusion of artists and several leaders from other parties will go towards strengthening the party.

“JDS leaders and other artists are joining BJP one after the other. Our party is strong, but with their arrival, we will be even stronger. We will get 100 per cent votes for Karnataka this time,” Siramulu added.

The minister also said there is “no” anti-incumbency in the State and BJP will return to power again.

“People have a lot of faith in our party. Prime Minister is leading the country our Bommai Ji is the chief minister here. So, people want the BJP government should come here also. There is nothing like anti-incumbency here, only the Opposition people keep talking about it because they have no work. But, we will come back to power once again,” he added.

Meanwhile, police an alleged threat letter was received by Kichcha Sudeep’s manager Jack Manju on Wednesday, after which the police registered a case in the matter.

According to the police, Sudeep’s manager received a letter from an unknown person, threatening to release the actor’s “private video” on social media.

The actor, meanwhile said that he will let the police handle the case. (ANI)

SC Sets Aside Kerala HC Order On Media One Licence

The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside the Kerala High Court order upholding the decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to revoke the license of news channel Media One, stating that independent press is necessary for a robust democracy and critical views of the channel against the government policies cannot be termed as anti-establishment.

In its order, the apex court also opined that the procedure of the ‘sealed cover’ infringe the principles of natural justice and open justice.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud allowed the Media One plea challenging the Kerala High Court order which upheld the order of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to revoke the license of a news channel.

The top court also said the Ministry of Information Broadcasting should proceed to issue a renewal license to the channel within four weeks and the interim order of the top court is allowed to continue until the renewal permissions are granted.

The top court also remarked on the importance of an independent press for better functioning of society, saying that the critical views of media cannot be termed anti-establishment and the use of such term presumes that the press should always support the government.

The court also turned down the submission related to the alleged link of shareholders to Jamaat-e-Islami Hind saying that it is not a legitimate ground to restrict the rights of the channel. The court also noted that there was no material to show such a link.

The apex court also took into account the procedure of sealed cover practice saying that such a practice cannot be adopted to avoid the harm caused by public immunity proceedings. The top court said if the purpose can be achieved through public immunity proceedings then sealed cover proceedings should not be adopted.

The top court had earlier stayed the central government’s decision banning the Malayalam news channel and allowed it to resume broadcasting its content.

The Supreme Court was hearing the Media One plea challenging the Kerala High Court order upholding the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting order to revoke the news channel’s licence.

In the Special Leave Petition preferred by Media One, through advocate Pallavi Pratap, the channel said it has filed the petition under dire and compelling circumstances.

The petition also said it raises seminal questions of law impinging upon the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression as well as the importance of an independent, free and unbiased press guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Centre justified its decision on the ground that the denial of security clearance to the Malayalam news channel ‘Media One’ is based on intelligence inputs, which are sensitive.

The Kerala HC, on February 8, 2022, upheld the order of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revoking the licence of Media One from the list of permitted news channels citing security reasons.

The HC dismissed petitions filed by the channel against the government order.

While dismissing the writ petition challenging the order of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Kerala HC made it clear that principles of natural justice and interference by the court in cases of national security have a very limited role. (ANI)

French EU China

French Prez, EU Chief To Meet Chinese Prez Today

French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are set to arrive in China on Wednesday for a three-day state visit that will see them meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, reported Al Jazeera.

Macron and US President Joe Biden agreed in a telephone call ahead of the French leader’s trip to engage China to hasten the end of the war in Ukraine, the Elysee Palace said on Wednesday.
“The two leaders have mentioned their joint willingness to engage China to accelerate the end of the war in Ukraine and take part in building sustainable peace in the region,” Macron’s office said in a statement.

Macron is determined to carve out a distinct role for Europe that avoids America’s confrontation with an assertive China, and convinced that there is a place for China in ending the war in Ukraine.

Macron will be accompanied by a delegation of more than 50 CEOs and meet with the French business community, but all eyes will be on how he and von der Leyen discuss the war in Ukraine with the Chinese leadership, reported Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile von der Leyen during a speech in Brussels last week publicly criticised Beijing’s “no limits” ties with Moscow in the face of an “atrocious and illegal invasion of Ukraine”.

“Any peace plan which would in effect consolidate Russian annexations is simply not a viable plan. We have to be frank on this point,” von der Leyen said, while also taking aim at China’s increasingly assertive posture on the South China Sea, the Chinese-Indian border and Taiwan, reported Al Jazeera.

“How China continues to interact with Putin’s war will be a determining factor for EU-China relations going forward,” she said.

Beijing said it was “disappointed” by her speech, according to its European Union ambassador Fu Cong.

China has so far not condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It has avoided use of the word “war” to describe the Russian assault.

It has embraced a “no-limits,” anti-Western partnership with Moscow, cemented last month by President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia and the joint declaration of a “new era” freed of what the two countries see as American dominance, reported The New York Times (NYT).

“The primary issue that Macron and von der Leyen will probably want to push on is to help get some support from China in dealing with Russia and to help advance on that front,” Zsuzsa Anna Ferenczy, an associate research fellow at Sweden’s Institute for Security and Development Policy, told Al Jazeera.

“Realistically, I don’t think we can expect much, but I think clearly everyone agrees that that’s the priority.”

At the G20 summit in November, Macron called for China to play a “greater mediation role” in the war but Beijing has yet to advance its role beyond issuing a 12-point peace plan that has received a lukewarm response in Kyiv and Western capitals, reported Al Jazeera.

It is to be noted that Macron is facing protest over his decision to raise the French retirement age. Macron’s trip is his first to China since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in early 2020, when Beijing effectively shut its borders to travel. The French leader last visited the country in 2019.

His trip follows one made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in November but it has already taken a different tone.

Scholz’s trip was widely criticised in Europe as too conciliatory towards Beijing, with the German leader’s efforts to shore up the country’s business interests taking precedence over pushing China to join the negotiating table over Ukraine.

EU-China relations have deteriorated sharply in recent years. Apart from disputes over China’s claims in the South China Sea and crackdowns in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong, Beijing’s attempts to punish EU member states like Lithuania for engaging with Taiwan and tit-for-tat sanctions on European parliamentarians have not gone over well.

In 2021, the 27-country bloc put a significant trade and investment deal with China on ice amid growing tensions between the sides.

Moreover, the United States has been dismissive of any Chinese role in Ukrainian peacemaking. It waved away a vague 12-point Chinese plan put forward in February. (ANI)

'Z+' category Altaf Bukhari

Z+ CRPF Security To J-K’s Apni Party Prez Altaf Bukhari

The Centre has provided ‘Z+’ category armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover to former People’s Democratic Party leader and Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, top government sources said.

The security was accorded by the Ministry of Home Affairs following a recent security review meeting based on an Intelligence Bureau threat analysis.
Businessman-turned-politician and former minister Altaf Bukhari (65) will be provided ‘Z+’ category security round the clock in Jammu and Kashmir, the sources told ANI.

Bukhari floated the J&K Apni Party (JKAP) as an alternative to the regional parties such as the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of which he was once a member.

The Apni Party, comprising mainly legislators and former ministers, was founded in March 2020, eight months after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. Since then, nearly two dozen legislators from different outfits have joined it.

In March 2020, all prominent leaders of the party met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah with their demand to safeguard the land rights and jobs of the J&K people.

Bukhari had then said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah appreciated the party’s efforts. The Apni Party has been holding a series of rallies to create an impact on the voters, especially in Kashmir.

It also held a mega rally in Srinagar last year, considered one of the biggest in the Valley post-August 5, 2019.

Though the Apni Party has openly criticised the government for its anti-encroachment drive, Bukhari had said that he was open to forge an alliance with the BJP. (ANI)

White House Classified Document Case

Trump Charged For Three ‘Catch And Kill’ Hush Money Payments: Manhattan District Attorney

United States former President Donald Trump has been charged with three pre-election hush-money cases, including the one made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg said in an official statement.

In the statement, the attorney mentioned three instances of the ‘catch and kill’ scheme in Donald Trump’s indictment.
“In one instance, American Media Inc. (“AMI”), paid USD 30,000 to a former Trump Tower doorman, who claimed to have a story about a child TRUMP had out of wedlock,” Bragg said in a statement.

The attorney also stated that the AMI paid USD 150,000 was paid to the woman who claimed to have a sexual relationship with Trump. And former President asked his lawyer to reimburse AMI in cash.

AMI admitted its conduct was unlawful in an agreement with federal prosecutors and made false entries in its business records concerning the true purpose of the USD 150,000 payment.

“In a third instance – 12 days before the presidential general election – the Special Counsel wired USD 130,000 to an attorney for an adult film actress. The Special Counsel, who has since pleaded guilty and served time in prison for making the illegal campaign contribution, made the payment through a shell corporation funded through a bank in Manhattan,” the statement read.

Bragg also said that during the 2016 election, Trump and others employed a “catch and kill” scheme to identify, purchase, and bury negative information about him and boost his electoral prospects.

Trump is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with 34 counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree.

“The People of the State of New York allege that Donald J. Trump repeatedly and fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal crimes that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election,” said District Attorney Bragg.

“Manhattan is home to the country’s most significant business market. We cannot allow New York businesses to manipulate their records to cover up criminal conduct. As the Statement of Facts describes, the trail of money and lies exposes a pattern that, the People allege, violates one of New York’s basic business laws. As this office has done time and time again, we today uphold our solemn responsibility to ensure that everyone stands equal before the law,” he added.

After winning the election, Trump reimbursed the Special Counsel through a series of monthly checks, first from the Trump Revocable Trust – created in New York to hold the Trump Organization’s assets during TRUMP’s presidency – and later from Trump’s bank account. In total, 11 checks were issued for a phoney purposes. (ANI)

Amritpal’s Escape, A Nelson’s Eye To Migrants Boat & A Bobbing Trump

One Man

India’s public services have never striven to become number one in competence. However the recent alleged escape of Amritpal must deserve India’s security services, the Punjab Police and the Central Reserve Paramilitary Forces a life time Olympics Gold in incompetence. One man with a turban, highly recognisable face and voice, slipped through a dragnet of 50,000 security and police services. Even the invisible man would have had some trouble, with an accidental bump into someone. There is no doubt the resourcefulness of Sikhs is legendary.

Amritpal Singh, who had started with a campaign against drugs started to get on the ‘Khalistan’ track. Suddenly the independent State-directed Indian media promoted him from a social campaigner to fiery preacher and then upscaled him to ‘State enemy Number 1’. All with rocket speed within a space of two months.

The Indian State doesn’t like anyone talking about freedom. Freedom was what Gandhi did and was extinguished at his funeral. Any resurgence is boxed in jails. Since the BJP follows the teachings of the sages, it isn’t clear where it says in Vedas or Shastras that no community can be given freedom. However that is a different matter. The BJP shastra is a unique one.

Amritpal says he will give himself up when he feels ready to do so. It seems he is running the game currently. At least for now Amritpal 1 and India 0.

Nelson’s Nation Fighting Dinghies

In the centre of London stands the proud statue of Lord Nelson, in the famous Trafalgar Square. Nelson had established the Naval Supremacy of Britain in the legendry battle at Cape Trafalgar against the mighty Spanish Armada and French Navy under Napolean.

Nelson’s was outnumbered in ships, outgunned in artillery and cannons and outmanned in number of men under arms. Yet his direct tactics won decisively. This was 1805. The national theme ‘Rule Britania, Britania rules the waves’ has been one of the most known and representative songs of Britain’s once powerful Navy.

Now Nelson’s legacy has met the rubber Dinghy. The entire might of Britain’s Naval Forces seems a bit outwitted by single rubber dinghy carrying unarmed desperate refugees fleeing persecution or food poverty. Using Nelson’s tactic, it aims straight for the coast.

Under Rishi the Marketman, the British Navy has been reduced to fighting these poor destitute people, many of them women and children, and still losing. Led by the Britain’s new ‘Superwoman’ version, Suella Braverman, the British Home Office has decided that the inflatable rubber Dinghy is the biggest threat to the ‘Realm’. How times change. Nelson is safe in Trafalgar Square. Perhaps it is time to build another column next to it with a dinghy on it.

The Bobbing Trump

Trumpustan is a unique country. However much conventional forces attack it, it has the ability to bob back into the centre of American politics. Everything has been thrown at it, yet it survives and thrives in the media, polls and among the hard core Republican voters in USA.

The latest weapons used to squeeze the genie of Trumpustan into a solid sealed cask has been an indictment and moves to arrest him. Trump wants the arrest to feature forced handcuffs. His supporters will go ballistic and tear open any political containment.

Even Trump’s competitors in the Republican Party are forced to support him. They have no choice. If they don’t, they will lose a huge base of Republican voters, which means the competition ends and Trump wins again.

Trumpustan is a political country within America. It wants to Make America Great Again. Although it is not clear where further Trumpustan wants to take it. The USA is the wealthiest, the mightiest and the most powerful country anyway. Perhaps competing against imagined Aliens in another galaxy?

Trumpustan is hard evidence of the cutting edge physicists theory that there are alternative universes and hence alternative realities. It doesnot matter what evidence exists in our simple world, Trumpustan dismisses it as ‘fake’, political and conspiratorial.

Trump is being charged with giving hush money to a so called prostitute named Stormy Daniel, before his last election, to keep her quiet about his brief dalliance. Stormy has stormed into limelight, the media and the political circus of USA by accusing Trump of giving her merely a whopping $125,000. She obviously wants to rake in more.

But in Trumpustan, she is a liar, the State is a liar and even the Judges appointed by Trump might be liars. Trumpustan carries on with god Trump continuing to forge alternative realities in which the American system become dysfunctional and illusionary.

Beautification Of Roads

Rs 2388 Cr Approved For Beautification Of Roads, Curb Air Pollution

The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved Rs 2388 crore for making the city’s roads spotless and clean and also to curb air pollution, AAP Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

“A proposal was presented by the Environment department to curb dust pollution in the city and also ensure sanitation of public places in the National Capital,” Delhi Cabinet minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said, adding that the government has approved the engagement of water sprinkler machines integrated with anti-smog guns and mechanical road sweeping machines on the roads.
Bhardwaj was addressing the media after the cabinet meeting held earlier in the day.

According to the minister, for this purpose Rs 2388 crore will be spent by the Delhi Government over the next 7-10 years.

As per the plan, the Delhi government will procure 70 mechanical road-sweeping machines and 250 water sprinkling machines with integrated anti-smog guns will be deployed.

“The first decision entails the procurement of 70 mechanical road-sweeping machines – one for each Vidhan Sabha constituency in Delhi. All the roads that are wider than 60 feet in Delhi and come under the PWD – with a total length of 1449 kilometres – will be cleaned by the department. Sanitation duties on these roads were earlier given to the MCD, but from now on they will be cleaned by the PWD,” he said.

He further said that a meeting was also held with the MCD Commissioner and Additional Commissioner on this matter on Monday and the proposal was raised over there that the roads that were earlier cleaned by them will now be cleaned by the PWD.

“For this purpose 70 mechanical road-sweeping machines will be procured and in the Cabinet Meeting held today it was agreed that the tenders for these machines will be put out very soon,” he said.

He also said that 250 water-sprinkling machines will be deployed by the Delhi Government, one each for every ward and these water-sprinkling machines will be integrated with anti-smog guns.

“For this purpose, Rs 2388 crore will be spent by the Delhi Government over the next 7-10 years. The life cycle of some of these machines is seven years while for the others it is 10 years. In the first year, Rs 257 crore will be spent to procure some of these machines. The water required to operate these machines will be provided by the Delhi Jal Board. 1500 kilo-litres of treated water per day from the sewer-treatment plant of the DJB will be provided for the purpose,” the minister added.

Further, since these machines suck out the dust from the roads like a vacuum cleaner, the dust gets settled in the equipment therefore to remove them 18 dump vehicles and 18 water tankers will also be procured by the Delhi Government under the same tender, Bharadwaj said.

The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday also approved the ‘Sugamaya Sahayak Scheme’ to enhance the mobility of the especially abled.

The scheme aims to provide them with aids and appliances such as smart canes, hearing aids, wheelchairs, motorised tricycles, and artificial limbs to enable them to overcome physical barriers, improve their mobility, and pursue education and employment.

“The Social Welfare department will enter into a five-year agreement with a government company to organise awareness camps and provide individuals with benchmark disabilities with the necessary equipment,” the Delhi minister said, adding that the scheme aims to integrate people with benchmark disabilities into mainstream society by enabling them to overcome physical barriers and improve their mobility.

“It will also enhance their quality of life, provide them with equal opportunities, and ensure their inclusion in society,” he further added. (ANI)

Bhutan's Rail Link Project

India To Step Up Support For Bhutan’s Expediting Rail Link Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “a warm and productive meeting” with Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck here with India deciding to step up its support to Bhutan’s upcoming 13th Five Year Plan, agreeing for an upward revision of tariff of Chhukha hydro-electric project and working for an additional standby credit facility to the neighbouring country.

The two countries agreed on a range of other initiatives including boosting connectivity with India working towards expediting the proposed Kokrajhar-Gelephu rail link project, which will be the first rail link between the two countries.
India would work for long-term sustainable arrangements for the export of agricultural commodities from Bhutan and to expand energy cooperation beyond hydroelectric projects.

PM Modi said in a tweet that India deeply values its close friendship with Bhutan.

“Pleased to receive His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. We had a warm and productive meeting. Deeply value our close friendship and the vision of successive Druk Gyalpos in guiding India-Bhutan relations to new heights,” PM Modi said.

Briefing reporters after a meeting between PM Modi and the Bhutan King, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said the two countries are also examining and considering setting up the first Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bhutan border.

He said King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck briefed PM Modi on his significant transformation and reform initiative that Bhutan is currently undertaking.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s continued and full support to the socio-economic development in Bhutan based on the priorities of the Royal Government and in keeping with the transformation initiatives and reform process as per its vision.

Kwatra said the visit of the Bhutan King, which has been long in the planning, takes forward the long-standing tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.

He said Bhutan King’s visit provided excellent opportunities for the two countries to not only review the full range of bilateral engagement but also sketch a roadmap in terms of the next steps “that we would take to further on multifaceted cooperation and partnership”.

“In terms of specific outcomes, which we would be following up based on the discussions, it was agreed that India would step up its support to Bhutan’s upcoming 13th Five Year Plan. The specifics of the support, its distribution into different projects that is something which is to be worked out between the two systems going forward. At Bhutan’s request, India would work to extend an additional standby credit facility. This would be over and above the two existing standby credit facilities that is operating between the two countries,” Kwatra said.

“We would work to shape long-term sustainable arrangements for export of agricultural commodities from Bhutan. Also work to develop long-term bilateral arrangements for assured supply of critical commodities to Bhutan, which would include petroleum, fertilizers, and coal,” he added.

He said the ICP would be set up along India-Bhutan border somewhere near Jaigaon.

“We are also examining and considering setting up the first Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bhutan border, which would be somewhere near Jaigaon. The exact specific location of the ICP is yet to be determined, but the broad location point is known,” Kwatra said.

“We will also try and expedite the proposed Kokrajhar-Gelephu rail link project through Government of India support in consultation of course with the Bhutanese side. This in some ways will be historic because this would be the first ever rail link between India and Bhutan. And naturally links up well to the rest of the regional connectivity infrastructure in South Asia,” he added.

The Foreign Secretary said India will consider positively Bhutan’s request to sell power from Basochhu hydroelectric project.

“In the field of hydro-power specifically, which has been the cornerstone of our economic relationship, we have agreed to an upward revision of tariff of the Chhukha hydro-electric project. This is the oldest hydroelectric project in Bhutan and is of great significance. Two, in the space of hydro-power itself, we will consider positively Bhutan’s request to sell power from Basochhu hydro-electric project. This would be perhaps done through the energy exchange mechanism of the market. The details are yet to be worked out but the discussion is that it could be done through the market exchange mechanism,” he said.

Kwatra said India would extend favourable consideration to Bhutan’s request regarding power trade and access to financing for new and upcoming hydropower projects.

“The specifics of this would vary from project to project and would naturally been in sync with our CBT guidelines. And also expand our energy partnership to include non-hydro-renewables particularly in the field of solar, and also maybe see how the core bilateral cooperation between our two countries in the field of e-mobility could be expanded,” he said.

“Besides the existing range of hydropower projects and also exploring the non-hydro-renewable space, we would also try and expedite the finalization of modalities for new hydroelectric projects, hydropower projects, including the Sankosh hydroelectric project,” he added.

The Foreign Secretary said that the discussions between the two leaders covered the entire gamut of India-Bhutan cooperation, and also issues of respective national and mutual interest.

He said there were five broad range issues.

“First was on economic and development partnership. This covered many elements which included cooperation for Bhutan’s 13th Five Year Plan, which processes is beginning from next year onwards. Support, including relevant financial support for the reform process in Bhutan. Support also for the institutional capacity building in Bhutan and project based development partnership which is one of the key pillars of our development cooperation with Bhutan,” he said.

The Foreign Secretary said that the second bucket of issues related to trade, connectivity and investment cooperation, which in turn included discussions on infrastructure connectivity, whether pertaining to integrated check post, rail connectivity, air connectivity, digital connectivity, people-to-people linkages, and the inland waterways.

The third related element pertained to long-term and sustainable trade facilitation measures that India and Bhutan could take, which would link to the economic growth and prosperity of both economies.

“Four, as part of new paradigms on energy cooperation, which would strengthen the existing frame and specifics of hydropower cooperation, but also carry forward our cooperation in this domain into non-hydro-renewable space.”

He said the last sub-segment relates to new sectors including space, startups, cooperation in the field of STEM education, as part of the bilateral partnership.

“In this context, the recent launch of India-Bhutan satellite, which was jointly developed by the space engineers from both countries was particularly appreciated,” he said.

Bhutan delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan and other senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan.

Kwatra said India and Bhutan share an exemplary relationship, which is characterized by trust, goodwill, mutual understanding.

“It’s a time-tested nature of our friendship which was reflected in the support that we provided to Bhutan during the COVID pandemic, including the Vaccine Maitri programme, as also in the expansion of our partnership into some of the new emerging areas and domains of economic cooperation, which includes digital domain, space, financial connectivity and increasing interoperability. Hydropower, again, strong element of our cooperation, which most recently has included handing over of the 720 megawatt Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project to the Government of Bhutan,” he said.

Bhutan King arrived in Delhi on Monday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on him on Monday and hosted a dinner, which “involved good discussions and interaction” with the key CEOs of some of the Indian companies.

India has consistently been Bhutan’s top trading partner and remains the leading source of investments in Bhutan. In November 2021, the Indian government formalised the opening of seven new trade routes for Bhutan’s bilateral and transit trade with India, new market access was provided for allowing the formal export of 12 agri-products from Bhutan to India, and various special exceptions and quotas for export are also provided.

India has been extending economic assistance to Bhutan’s socio-economic development since the early 1960s when Bhutan launched its Five Year Plans.

For the 12th Five Year Plan, India assisted Bhutan with Rs 4500 crore for various multi-sectoral project-tied assistance, small development projects, direct budgetary support etc.

Mutually beneficial hydro-power cooperation with Bhutan forms the core of bilateral economic cooperation.

Hydro-power Cooperation provides clean power for India and economic prosperity for Bhutan with a steady stream of revenue, which witnessed positive growth even during the pandemic. (ANI)

Samples Of Eye Drops Linked To Blindness, Deaths In US Are Free Of Contamination: Health Ministry

The samples of eye-drops manufactured by India’s Global Pharma Healthcare, which were linked to three deaths and blindness in some patients in US, are found to be “free of contamination”, said Health Ministry sources on Tuesday.

According to Health Ministry sources, the US Food and Drug Administratio (US FDA) India has found samples that are tested in a lab in Bengaluru “free of any contamination.”
While talking to ANI, the source said,”Indian samples tested were found to be of standard quality. We found the samples free of any contamination.”

Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has also formally written letter to USFDA, though USFDA has not yet communicated to DCGI.

Today, a joint inspection was also conducted by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and Tamil Nadu state drugs inspectors at the manufacturing unit and the manufacturing has been kept on hold till the completion of the investigation.

Earlier, in February, USFDA warned the consumers not to purchase or use EzriCare Artificial Tears due to potential contamination. Using contaminated artificial tears can increase the risk of eye infections that could result in blindness or death.

Global Pharma initiated a voluntary recall at the consumer level of all unexpired lots of EzriCare Artificial Tears and of all unexpired lots of Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears.

After the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning in February, a group of drug inspectors from the Central and Tamil Nadu governments conducted an inspection at the company premises which is 40 km south of Chennai. (ANI)

Waqf Board Act AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi

Centre Erasing Mughal History, China Erasing Our Present: Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday alleged that the Centre is erasing the past by removing Mughal history from the NCERT syllabus while China is erasing our present. He was referring to China renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh.

“On one side, the Modi government is erasing the Mughals from NCERT syllabus, while on the other side, China, with whom PM Modi was shaking hands at G20 Indonesia meeting, is erasing our present,” Owaisi told a press conference.
Owaisi’s barb comes after China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs came up with the names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh, which it referred to as “Zangnan, the southern part of Tibet.”

Sharpening his attack further, Owaisi said, “This is happening because China knows that the country’s Prime Minister will not take its name, secondly this government does not speak facts, thirdly their [the government’s] response is weak.”

“Based on these three things, China is erasing our present and the government is erasing the Mughals (history),” he reiterated.

However, while responding to China’s attempt of renaming names, the Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Tuesday asserted that Arunachal Pradesh will always be an integral part of India.

“India has outrightly rejected China’s attempt to rename places of Arunachal Pradesh,” Arindam Bagchi said.

In response to media queries regarding China renaming some places in Arunachal Pradesh, Arindam Bagchi in a statement said, “We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright.”

He further said, “Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign invented names will not alter this reality.”

China released names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh in Chinese characters, Tibetan and pinyin according to the rules on geographical names issued by the State Council, China’s cabinet, Global Times reported.

The ministry announced the names of 11 places on Sunday and also gave precise coordinates, including two residential areas, five mountain peaks, two rivers and two other areas. China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs also listed the category of places’ names and their subordinate administrative districts, as per the news report.

According to a Global Times report, this is the third batch of geographical names announced by the ministry in Arunachal Pradesh. As per the news report, the first batch of the standardized names of six places was issued in 2017, and the second batch of 15 places was released in 2021.

Earlier, in December last year, the Indian government said that it has seen reports of China attempting to rename some places in Arunachal Pradesh “in its own language” and asserted that the border state has been and will always be an integral part of India.”

In response to a media query on reports that China has renamed some places in Arunachal Pradesh in its own language, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said China had also sought to assign such names in April 2017.

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has attempted such a renaming of places in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. China had also sought to assign such names in April 2017,” Bagchi said.

“Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always be an integral part of India. Assigning invented names to places in Arunachal Pradesh does not alter this fact,” he added. (ANI)
