Satyendar Jain

Jain Hospitalised After Falling In Tihar Jail Bathroom

Former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain has been hospitalised after he slipped and fell in the bathroom at Delhi’s Tihar Jail, officials said on Thursday.

Jain, who has been detained in Tihar Jail since last year, has been admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital with minor injuries.
“This morning around 6 am, under trial prisoner (UTP) Dr Satendra Jain slipped and fell in the bathroom of the Medical Inspection (MI) room of the hospital of Central Jail (CJ-7), where he was kept under observation for general weakness,” as per an official statement from the prison officials.

According to officials, Jain was examined by doctors and his vital organs were found to be normal.

“He was further referred to DDU Hospital as he complained about back, left leg and shoulder pain,” said an official statement from prison officials.

On Monday, the former AAP minister Jain was taken to Safdarjung Hospital after he complained of health issues.

AAP has claimed that Jain suffers from acute lumbar pain, causing vertigo and chronic lower back pain due to a slipped disc. The pain radiates throughout his lower limbs, leaving him with a constant tingling sensation and decreased mobility, the party said.

A recent MRI conducted on May 3 demonstrates degeneration in all intervertebral discs of Satyendar Jain leading the doctors to advise urgent spinal/vertebral surgery and proper post-operative care, read the AAP statement.

However, the AAP said, Jain has been placed as No 416 on a waiting list by Jail authorities and is expected to be able to undergo the surgery only after a further five months.

Earlier this month, on May 15, Jain had moved a plea in the Supreme Court, seeking bail in the alleged money laundering case against him. He has challenged the Delhi High Court’s order dismissing his bail plea in the alleged case.

Jain was arrested on May 30, 2022, under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by Enforcement Directorate and is presently in Judicial Custody in the case.

The ED case is based on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) complaint registered on the allegation that Satyender Jain had acquired movable properties in the name of various persons from February 14, 2015, to May 31, 2017, which he could not satisfactorily account for. (ANI)

Shraddha-Style Murder: Man Arrested For Killing Live In Partner

In an incident similar to Shraddha Walkar murder, Hyderabad Police arrested a man for killing a woman on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as B. Chandra Mohan (48).
Police said that the accused Chandra Mohan had killed the deceased Anuradha Reddy by stabbing her and later cutting her body into several pieces for disposal.

“On May 17, we received a complaint from a GHMC worker informing that at a garbage dumping place opposite Afzal Nagar Community Hall, near Musi river, beside Theegalguda road he found one head of an unidentified woman in a black cover,” DCP South East zone CH Rupesh told ANI.

“We (the police) had formed a total of eight teams to investigate the matter. After analysing the matter over a week we got one accused. After interrogation of the accused, the deceased has been identified as Y Anuradha Reddy aged 55 years. The accused was having a relationship with the deceased. Out of their relationship, the accused accommodated the deceased in one of the parts of his house on the ground floor. Since 2018 the accused took a huge amount nearly Rs. 7 lakhs from the deceased but did not return the amount in spite of repeated requests by the deceased. The deceased was pressurizing the accused for the money, due to which the accused felt disgusted with the attitude of the deceased and hatched a plan to get rid of the deceased,” he added.

Police said that the accused killed the woman on May 12 in a pre-planned event.

“As per the plan, on May 12, in the afternoon the accused picked up a quarrel with the deceased on the issue of paying her amount and attacked her with a knife and inflicted stab injuries over her chest and stomach, as a result of which she died on the spot,” the police official said.

Police further mentioned the accused purchased two stone-cutting machines (small) in order to dispose of the body.

“After that, the accused purchased two stone cutting machines (small) in order to dispose of the body and beheaded the head from the trunk and kept it in a black polythene cover. He then separated the legs, and hands from the trunk by cutting with a stone cutting machine and preserved the legs and hands in the fridge while the trunk was kept in a suitcase for disposal,” he said.

“On May 15, the accused brought the beheaded head of the deceased, dumped it in the dumping place and went away. After that, the accused brought Phenyl, Dettol, Perfume Agarbatti, Karpuram and perfume spray bottles and regularly applied them over the body parts of the deceased in order to avoid spreading of bad smell in the vicinity. After that, the accused took the cell phone of the deceased and sent messages to her known persons in order to make them believe that she is alive and staying somewhere,” he added.

In a similar incident in Delhi, the deceased Shraddha Walkar was murdered by the accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala and was later chopped into 35 pieces.

Aftab, during his interrogation, accused told the police that after killing Shraddha and chopping her body into 35 pieces, he had first disposed of those parts which could stink quickly. (ANI)

Jhiram Attack Victims Still Waiting For Justice: Baghel

The victims of the Jhiram attack are still waiting for justice and we regret it, stated Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

“Justice has not been served in the Jhiram incident and we regret it. This is an emotional matter for us. Justice should be given to the victims’ families and those killed in the attack and they are still to get it,” said CM Baghel while talking to the media on the side-line of the convocation ceremony of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University in Raipur on Wednesday.
While on the eve of “Jhiram Valley Martyrdom Day” CM paid his humble tributes to the leaders and jawans who were killed in the Naxal attack in Jhiram Valley on May 25, 2013.

In his message issued on the eve of the Martyrdom Day, Baghel said, “‘Jhiram Tribute Day’ is getting observed every year since 2020, on 25 May in memory of the martyrs and all those who were victims of Naxal violence in the past years.”

“On May 25, a two-minute silence will be observed in all the government and semi-government offices of the state and an oath will be taken to make the state a land of peace again,” said CM further.

Earlier on Tuesday, the CM accused NIA of hiding facts related to the investigation and not letting the state government probe the incident. Moreover, CM Baghel had targeted BJP in connection with the attack and questioned why the road opening party was removed from the spot.

The government should reveal the identity of senior Congress leader, who is currently a minister in incumbent government and present at the spot of naxal attack, and how he got a motorcycle at the attack site, said Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel, adding that Bhupesh Baghel should reveal his identity as it gives rise to various doubts.

Chandel further said that they (Congress) have had a government in the state for four-and-half years then why don’t they conduct a probe to find out the truth.

When asked to comment on former minister Brijmohan Agrawal’s statement challenging prohibition on Bajrang Dal before elections in Chhattisgarh, CM said that there is a difference between Bajrangbali and Bajrang Dal. Where there will be a need to ban the organisation, it will be banned and we do not need it. Why is the MLA instigating us?

On being asked about the ongoing row over inauguration of new parliament building and comments made by BJP ministers, CM Baghel said that the parliament building was constructed during British rule and Indira Gandhi as well as Rajiv Gandhi have dedicated a portion of the building. Congress demands that the inauguration should be carried out by the President. (ANI)

Ghulam Nabi Azad

When Narasimha Was PM: Ghulam Nabi On Parliament Building Inauguration

Asserting that the construction of a new Parliament building was necessary, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said that it is good that it has been constructed but the idea was mooted when PV Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister.

He further refrained from commenting on the issue of which political party would be attending or boycotting the inauguration event of the new Parliament building.
“This is a technical issue. Parliamentarians who want to boycott this event or want to attend it is up to them. It is their point of view on how they want to perceive this event. Those parliamentarians will have to explain the reasons why they are boycotting the event. I don’t want to comment on who will be attending or boycotting the inauguration event,” Azad, Democratic Progressive Azad Party chief, told to ANI.

He also recalled the conversation related to the need for a new Parliament building between him and then Speaker Shivraj Patil when PV Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister.

“At the time when PV Narasimha Rao was the PM, Shivraj Patil was the Speaker and I was the Parliamentary Affairs minister, Shivraj ji had said to me that a new and bigger Parliament building should be constructed before 2026. The construction of a new building was necessary, it’s good that it has been constructed now,” he said.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, “Not getting the President to inaugurate the Parliament nor invite her to the ceremony is an insult to the country’s highest constitutional post. Parliament is not made of bricks of ego but of constitutional values.”

Congress and eighteen other opposition parties have decided to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament Building and stated that it “insults the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution”.

In a joint statement, the like-minded opposition parties said that Prime Minister’s decision to inaugurate the building by himself is “a direct assault on our democracy, which demands a commensurate response.” The new Parliament building will be inaugurated on May 28.

“When the soul of democracy has been sucked out from the Parliament, we find no value in a new building. We announce our collective decision to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building. We will continue to fight — in letter, in spirit, and in substance — against this authoritarian Prime Minister and his government, and take our message directly to the people of India,” the statement said.

The nineteen opposition parties who will boycott the inauguration are – Congress, DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party, TMC, Janta Dal (United), Nationalist Congress Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), RJD, Indian Union Muslim League, National Conference, Communist Party of India, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Kerala Congress (Mani), Vidhuthalai Chirunthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Revolutionary, Socialist Party and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The statement said that the inauguration of a new Parliament building is a momentous occasion.

“Despite our belief that the government is threatening democracy, and our disapproval of the autocratic manner in which the new Parliament was built, we were open to sinking our differences and marking this occasion. However, Prime Minister Modi’s decision to inaugurate the new Parliament building by himself, completely sidelining President Murmu, is not only a grave insult but a direct assault on our democracy which demands a commensurate response,” it said.

The opposition parties said that Article 79 of the Constitution states that there shall be a Parliament for the Union which shall consist of the President and two Houses to be known respectively as the Council of States and the House of the People.

“The President is not only the Head of State in India but also an integral part of the Parliament. She summons, prorogues, and addresses the Parliament. She must assent for an Act of Parliament to take effect. In short, the Parliament cannot function without the President. Yet, the Prime Minister has decided to inaugurate the new Parliament building without her. This undignified act insults the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution. It undermines the spirit of inclusion which saw the nation celebrate its first woman Adivasi President,” the statement said.

The statement alleged that the ruling party at the Centre has sought to suppress the voice of opposition parties in Parliament.

“Undemocratic acts are not new to the Prime Minister, who has relentlessly hollowed out the Parliament. Opposition Members of Parliament have been disqualified, suspended and muted when they raised the issues of the people of India. MPs from the Treasury benches have disrupted Parliament. Many controversial legislations, including the three farm laws, have been passed with almost no debate, and Parliamentary Committees have been practically made defunct,” the statement said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament Building on December 10, 2020. It has been built in record time with quality construction.

In the present building of the Parliament, there is a provision for the sitting of 543 Members in the Lok Sabha and 250 in the Rajya Sabha.

Keeping in view the future requirements, arrangements have been made for a meeting of 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 384 members in the Rajya Sabha in the newly constructed building of the Parliament. The joint session of both Houses will be held in the Lok Sabha chamber. (ANI)
