Nana Lends Voice To ‘Gadar 2’

Veteran actor Nana Patekar has lent his voice to Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer upcoming period action film ‘Gadar 2’.

Taking to Instagram, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the updates on Monday.

He wrote, “#Xclusiv… NANA PATEKAR DOES VOICEOVER FOR ‘GADAR 2’… #NanaPatekar has lent his voice for #Gadar2… #Nana’s voiceover will introduce #Gadar2 to the moviegoers at the very start of the film. It may be recalled that #OmPuri had done the voiceover for the introductory scenes of #Gadar [first part], way back in 2001.”

Nana Patekar will be giving the introduction of ‘Gadar 2’ to the moviegoers at the very start of the film.

Recently the makers released the first song ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava’ from the movie.

The original song was sung by music maestros Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, the new version of the song is recreated and rearranged by Mithoon. ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava’ was originally composed by Uttam Singh and the lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi.

The new version is a part of ‘Gadar 2’, which will hit the theatres on ‘August 11’.

Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles. Before releasing the official teaser online, the makers of the film attached the teaser with ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ which was re-released in the theatres on June 9.

The teaser of ‘Gadar 2,’ hints that the story begins right from where the story ended in ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and the fans can also hear a sad version of the song ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’. The film’s portrayal of the partition of India and its impact on people’s lives struck a chord with the audience.

The epic tale of patriotism, love and sacrifice of Tara and Sakeena broke multiple records back in 2001 and now the makers are all set to entertain the audiences with the second instalment of the film.

‘Gadar 2’ will have a big Bollywood clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’.

Meanwhile, Nana Patekar will be headlining Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s upcoming film ‘The Vaccine War’.

‘The Vaccine War’ revolves around India’s contributions to the race to produce a Covid-19 vaccine during the pandemic.

Anupam Kher and ‘Kantara’ star Sapthami Gowda are also a part of ‘The Vaccine War’. (ANI)

Requested Partner Countries Not To Give Space To Khalistanis: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on Monday, said that India has requested partner countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia not to give space to the Khalistanis as these radical extremist ideologies are not good for their relationship.

On names of Indian diplomats in Khalistani posters in Canada, Jaishankar said, “We have requested our partner countries, like Canada, UK, Australia, US that they should not give space to these Khalistanis. These radical extremist ideologies aren’t good for us, them, or our ties. Will raise the issue of these posters.”
The EAM’s remarks came after the reports of posters being circulated in Canada informing pro-Khalistan residents of a rally. These posters caused concerns for the Indian government as it threatened the ambassador and consulate general in Toronto.

In March this year, Khalistan supporters protested outside the Indian Embassy in Canada. They raised pro-Khalistan slogans and allegedly assaulted Indian-origin journalists present on the spot.

Khalistan supporters in March, protested outside the Indian Embassy in Canada. They raised pro-Khalistan slogans and allegedly assaulted Indian-origin journalists present on the spot.

Earlier this month, a tableau parade was organized in Ontario celebrating the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi, which drew severe criticism from New Delhi.

Last month also, Jaishankar reacted to the rise of Khalistanis activities in Canada. While speaking at a town hall meeting at the India International Centre, here in the national capital, the minister said that Ottawa seems to be driven by “vote-bank politics” and this has also impacted the ties between the two countries lately.

Speaking to the reporters, Jaishankar said, “How Canada has dealt with the Khalistani issue is a longstanding issue for us, because very frankly, they seem to be driven by vote bank politics. Their responses have been constrained by what they regard as vote bank compulsions. We made it very clear that if there are activities which are permitted from Canada that impinge on our sovereignty, territorial integrity and our security, then we will have to respond.”

“It is something which is a continuing conversation with Canada, not always satisfactory, but something on which we have been very clear. And over the last few years, you can see that this has impacted our ties in many ways,” he added. (ANI)

Manipur Violence: SC Seeks Fresh Status Report From Govt

The Supreme Court on Monday sought an updated status report from the State of Manipur regarding the present situation and measures taken to curb the violence in the State.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices PS Narasimha, and Manoj Misra directed the State to update the position regarding rehabilitation camps, recovery of arms and law and order.
The bench posted the matter for hearing on July 10 and asked the government to file a detailed status report.

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by the Manipur Tribal Forum, Delhi seeking the protection of the Kuki tribe by the Indian Army.

At the outset, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing for the Manipur Tribal Forum, told the bench that situation in Manipur has worsened.

Solicitor General of India, appearing for the State, however, told the apex court that the “situation is improving, though slowly”.

Solicitor General said that the curfew has been reduced to 5 hours a day, which indicates an improvement.

Civil police, Manipur Commandos, Indian reserve battalions and 114 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are among those deployed in areas of violence in Manipur, he added.

Solicitor General also requested advocate Gonsalves, the counsel of Manipur Tribal Forum, to not give any communal angle like Christians or something as real human beings are being dealt with.

“My learned friend (Gonsalves) may not give this a communal angle- like Christians or something. Real human beings are being dealt with,” said Solicitor General.

He alleged that one leader from the Meitei group came to an interview hosted by Karan Thapar and gave open threats against Kukis.

“Last night, three tribals were killed and one was beheaded, the first beheading of tribals. These are the Meities, they are the dominant group… The Kukis are not attacking. The Kukis are in the villages defending. The armed groups are crossing the lines. Army released two press statements saying women gather in large numbers and stop the army and they are not allowed to do their duty and protect the people,” claimed Gonsalves.

Counsel appearing for Meities Organisation said that there should be an investigation into the source of assault weapons and the militant groups behind the violence.

“The suspicion is that the militants have come out of the shelters and are fighting, otherwise how will you explain the assault weapons? There should be a headcount of the militants. Union of India should look into this aspect,” he said.

The Manipur Tribal Forum filing an interlocutory application has that the Centre and State governments’ assurances to the apex court in the case concerning the recent outbreak of violence in Manipur are false and non-serious and it shall not rely on the “empty assurances” of governments.

The application asked for the protection of the tribe by the Indian Army saying the State and its Police force are not trusted by the tribe.

It sought “directions to be passed to the Indian Army to take full control of the law and order and public order situation in the districts of Churachanpur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Imphal East, and Imphal West.”

The forum expressed no-confidence in the commission of inquiry constituted by the Centre under the head of former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and urged that it be quashed and replaced by a single-member commission comprising former Delhi High Court Chief Justice and Law Commission chairperson, AP Shah.

It sought the constitution of an SIT headed by former Assam police chief Harekrishna Deka and an ex-gratia payment of Rs two crore to the kin of each of those killed within three months. The application also demanded a permanent government job for a member of the families of those slain.

The top court seized the cases relating to the violence in Manipur and sought status reports from the Centre and State on the relief and rehabilitation efforts for the people affected by the violence between Meitei and Kuki communities.

Earlier, the top court expressed concern over the loss of lives and properties in Manipur during the violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities and stressed taking adequate measures to restore normalcy there.

On March 27, the High Court directed the State to consider the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes list.

The violence in Manipur between the Hindu Meiteis and the tribal Kuki, who are Christians, erupted after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3.

Violence has gripped the entire State for over a month now and the Central government had to deploy paramilitary forces to bring the situation under control. (ANI)

2000 banknotes

RBI: 76% Of Rs 2,000 Notes Returned To Banking System

About 76 per cent of the Rs 2000 banknotes have returned to the banking system since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in May decided to withdraw the high-value note from circulation.

The total value of Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023 – when the RBI decided to withdraw the note.
The total value of Rs 2000 banknotes returned to the system after the announcement on May 19 is to the tune of Rs 2.72 lakh crore, RBI said Monday, citing data received from banks.

Hence, banknotes in circulation now stand at Rs 0.84 lakh crore.

“Data collected from major banks indicates that out of the total banknotes in Rs 2000 denomination received back from circulation, about 87 per cent is in the form of deposits and the remaining around 13 per cent has been exchanged into other denomination banknotes,” RBI said on Monday in a statement.

People are requested to utilise the next three months to deposit or exchange their Rs 2000 banknotes to avoid any rush at the last moment.

People can exchange or deposit their Rs 2,000 notes in bank branches and regional branches of RBI. A non-account holder also can exchange Rs 2000 banknotes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time at any bank branch.

September 30 has been decided as the last date for the purpose of completing the exercise in a time-bound manner and to provide adequate time to the public. RBI may later revisit the September deadline based on the situation going ahead.

On May 19, the RBI decided to withdraw the Rs 2000 denomination banknotes from circulation but said it will continue to remain as legal tender. However, RBI has advised banks to stop issuing such banknotes with immediate effect.

The Rs 2000 denomination banknote was introduced in November 2016 under Section 24(1) of the RBI Act, 1934, primarily to meet the currency requirement of the economy in an expeditious manner after the withdrawal of the legal tender status of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes in circulation at that time.

The objective of introducing Rs 2000 banknotes was met once banknotes in other denominations became available in adequate quantities. Therefore, the printing of Rs 2000 banknotes was stopped in 2018-19. (ANI)

Delhi HC Rejects Bail Petition Of Sisodia

The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the bail petition of Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

The Court also dismissed bail petitions of Vijay Nair, ex-communication in charge of Aam Aadmi Party, Abhishek Boinpally (Hyderabad-based businessman) and Binoy Babu Binoy, (manager with a liquor company Pernod Ricard) in connection with the same case.
The bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma while dismissing bail petition of Manish Sisodia said that the court does not find any infirmity with the trial court order which had dismissed his bail.

“The possibility of tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out and Section 45 twin condition isn’t satisfied. Bail Denied,” said the court.

The trial court had earlier denied bail to them.

Earlier, Delhi High Court dismissed the bail plea of Manish Sisodia in a CBI case alleging corruption in the implementation of a previous liquor policy in the national capital.

The bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma while denied bail to Sisodia in the CBI case, said Manish Sisodia (Applicant) being a powerful person, there was the possibility of him influencing the witnesses.

The Rouse Avenue Court earlier dismissed the bail plea of Manish Sisodia in a money laundering case related to the Excise scam stating that “this case of economic offences having serious repercussions upon the general public and society at large as the evidence collected during investigation speaks volumes of his involvement in the commission of the said offence.”

Court also noted that some evidence is also alleged to have surfaced during the investigation to show that some part of the kickback or bribe amount received from South lobby was spent or utilized in connection with the election campaign of the AAP in Goa and some cash payments through hawala channels are alleged to have been sent to Goa for bearing the said expenses and even some fake invoices are alleged to have been created as a cover-up for the cash amounts transferred through hawala channels.

It is stated that the above cash transfers were made as per instructions of the coaccused Vijay Nair, who was the representative of the applicant and the AAP and also the Media Incharge of AAP and looking after the work related to said elections and he also roped in a company named M/S Chariot Productions Media Pvt. Ltd. owned by the coaccused Rajesh Joshi to do the election-related advertising work and other jobs for the party during said elections noted the court.

Thus, in view of the above background, the serious nature of allegations made and the role played by the applicant in the above criminal conspiracy, his connection with the activities relating to generation or acquisition and use etc. of the above proceeds of crime within the meaning of Section 3 of the PMLA and the oral and documentary evidence collected in support of the same and as placed for the perusal of the court, this court is of the considered opinion that even if the rigours and restrictions contained U/S 45 of the PMLA are viewed and construed reasonably, the prosecution has still been able to show a genuine and prima facie case for the involvement of the applicant in the commission of the alleged offence of money laundering.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9 arrested former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case, after hours of questioning at Tihar Jail.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI earlier in its ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). (ANI)

Shinde on MLAs

Shinde Will Be Replaced Soon; 16 MLAs Will Be Disqualified: Raut

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday reiterated his claim that Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar who was sworn in as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra a day ago would soon replace Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Raut also said that 16 MLAs who were part of the split in Shiv Sena almost a year ago are going to be “disqualified”.
“Today I am saying this in front of the camera, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra is going to change. Eknath Shinde is being removed. Eknath Shinde and the 16 MLAs are going to be disqualified,” Raut said while talking to ANI.

Raut’s remark came after NCP leader Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra and took oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday.

Raut further said that Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress will fight “unitedly” in Maharashtra.

“BJP is breaking Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress but this will not benefit them at all. In Maharashtra, we will fight unitedly. It is shocking that PM Modi had said that the leaders of NCP are involved in corruption and now those leaders have taken oath in Raj Bhawan,” Raut said.

In June 2022, a group of Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray – saying that the latter’s decision to align with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party went against the party’s Hindutva ideology.

Shinde, then cabinet minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, led the revolt which vertically split the Shiv Sena.

The downfall of MVA paved the formation of BJP-Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena. On June 30, Shinde was sworn in as CM and Fadnavis, his deputy.

On Sunday too after the oath-taking ceremony of Ajit Pawar, who became the second Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra along with the present deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis after joining the NDA government, Raut had said that in just a few days, Maharashtra will get another Chief Minister.

“We already knew that this process was going on. About this, I had said earlier also that it can happen. The sword of disqualification that was hanging over Eknath Shinde is about to fall soon. The 16 MLAs who went with him will be disqualified. In just a few days, Maharashtra will get another Chief Minister,” Raut had said. (ANI)
