Senior BJP leader MK Ajatshatru Singh

At UN, Maharaja Hari Singh’s Grandson Hails Indian Govt’s Decision To Abrogate Article 370

Senior BJP leader MK Ajatshatru Singh in his address to the United Nations hailed the Government of India’s bold decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ajatshatru, the grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh who had signed the treaty of accession of the region with India in 1947 expressed his deep concern for the plight of those living under Pakistan occupation and sought UN intervention to ameliorate them.

In his address at the UN on Friday, the senior BJP leader said, “Since the constitutional reforms in 2019, there has been a significant decline in terrorist incidents in the region. From 2004 to 2014, Jammu and Kashmir experienced a total of 7,217 terrorist incidents. However, thanks to the reforms, terror incidents have decreased by over 70 per cent. This improvement underscores the effectiveness of the government’s actions in restoring peace and stability to the region.”

“Moreover, on the socio-economic front, the reduction of poverty in Jammu and Kashmir from 40.45 per cent in 2005-2006 to a mere 2.81 per cent in 2022-2023 is a testament to the optimal utilization of development funds. The recent interim budget for 2024 allocated a substantial USD 14 billion for Jammu and Kashmir, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to the region’s prosperity,” he said.

Ajatshatru said that over the past nine years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a remarkable revolution in infrastructure development, including the establishment of new medical colleges, tunnels, railway lines, and civic infrastructure. These advancements have been achieved while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region, said the son of Karan Singh, the titular king of undivided Jammu and Kashmir.

However, it is essential to acknowledge that not all parts of Jammu and Kashmir have benefited equally. Recent protests in regions under Pakistani occupation highlight the growing awareness of economic disparities compared to those under Indian administration.

The former minister appealed to the United Nations to take concrete steps in accordance with Security Council resolutions to ameliorate the situation faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir under Pakistan occupation. It is imperative that the international community addresses their grievances and ensures their fundamental rights are upheld, he concluded. (ANI)

K. Kavitha

K Kavitha’s Custody Extended Till March 26

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended BRS leader K. Kavitha’s ED remand till March 26. As the BRS leader was being produced in the court on Saturday she alleged that her arrest is illegal, adding that she is going to fight it out in court.

Kavitha told reporters, “This is an illegal arrest. We are going to fight it out in court. It is a political case, a fabricated case, a false case. We are fighting it out. There is nothing new, they are asking the same things again and again.”

“Why so many arrest during election time. political arrest. ECI should intervene,” she added after the verdict was read out.

The BRS leader was produced before the Special Judge in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case, as her ED custody ended today. The ED had moved an application seeking an extension of K. Kavitha’s remand for another five days.

The national probe agency while seeking further five days’ remand of the BRS leader informed the court that searches are underway at the latter’s nephew Mekha Saran’s residence.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain K Kavitha’s bail plea in the Delhi excise policy case and asked her to move the trial court with the direction that if the bail application filed will be decided expeditiously.

A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh and Bela M Trivedi remarked that it has to follow a uniform policy for all and can’t allow people to approach the top court directly for bail as they are political people.

The court said that BRS leader K Kavitha could move the trial court or invoke any other remedy for the grant of bail. The court directed that if a bail application is filed then it should be decided expeditiously.

K Kavitha, through her advocate P Mohith Rao, moved the Supreme Court on Monday challenging her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case relating to Delhi excise policy irregularities.

Kavitha, who was arrested by an ED team on March 15, is in ED’s custodial interrogation for seven days till today. She was arrested after a search operation conducted at Kavitha’s residence in Hyderabad on the same day.

The BRS leader in her petition has also challenged her remand as well and said the remand order doesn’t adhere to Article 141 which states that the law declared by the Supreme Court shall be binding on all courts within the territory of India. K Kavitha in her plea also challenged section 19 (1) of the PMLA Act.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate claimed on Monday that BRS MLC K Kavitha allegedly conspired with the top leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia to get favours in the Delhi Excise policy formulation and implementation, and she was involved in paying Rs 100 crore to the AAP leaders in exchange for these favours.

ED’s claims came three days after it arrested Kavitha, MLC of Telangana Legislative Council, in the alleged case of Delhi Liquor Policy Scam.

Kavitha was arrested after a search operation conducted at Kavitha’s residence in Hyderabad on the same day. During the search proceedings, the ED officials said they were obstructed by the relatives and associates of Kavitha.

“ED investigation revealed that K Kavitha along with others allegedly conspired with the top leaders of AAP including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for getting favours in the Delhi Excise policy formulation and implementation,” ED claimed in a statement.

“In exchange for these favours, she was involved in paying Rs 100 crore to the leaders of AAP. By the acts of corruption and conspiracy in the formulation and implementation of Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, a continuous stream of illegal funds in the form of kickback, from the wholesalers was generated for the AAP,” it added.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was on Friday remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate for seven days, i.e., till March 28, a day after he was arrested by the probe agency in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are in judicial custody in the excise policy case. Sisodia, who was the then Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the CBI on February 26 following several rounds of questioning. On October 5, ED arrested Sanjay Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha member. (ANI)

Kejriwal Will Continue As CM: AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj

Amid continuing protests against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader and minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Saturday said all party MLAs and the councilors arrived at a consensus following consultations that the former will continue to hold the reins of the national capital despite being in ED custody.

Kejriwal, who was arrested on Thursday night, was sent to the custody of the Directorate of Enforcement till March 28 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, on Friday, for alleged money laundering in connection with the excise policy ‘scam’.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Bhardwaj, who was detained along with fellow minister Atishi while leading an AAP protest in the national capital against Kejriwal’s arrest on Friday, said, “Arvind Kejriwal will do whatever people want. He has always made his decisions in public interest and considering the greater good. Before making this decision (to run the affairs of Delhi from ED custody, he got in touch with all his MLAs, held meetings, and met the councilors. We also spoke with people in all wards. Everyone said Arvind Kejriwal should continue as the CM, as there is no rule that stops him from running the government from jail (ED custody).”

On the ongoing raids by ED at the premises of sitting MLA Gulab Singh Yadav, Bhardwaj claims the action was merely aimed at scaring the Opposition into silence.

Accusing the BJP-led Centre of putting the entire Opposition behind bars, the AAP leader said, “People not just in the country but across the world are seeing how the BJP-led government at the Centre is busy putting the entire Opposition in jail. This country is following in the path of Russia (referring to alleged suppression of Opposition leaders in the country). Such occurrences are also commonplace in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and North Korea. Now, India is following in the same path. The largest democracy in the world is now drifting towards dictatorship, where the basic rights of people are denied and the Opposition is muzzled and suppressed.”

“Our top 4 leaders (Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Sanjay Singh) are in jail under false cases. Gulab Singh Yadav, our party in-charge of Gujarat, a state where are fielding candidates to contest the Lok Sabha polls, is being raided today. I know that in the coming days, more AAP leaders as well as those from other parties will be raided till the entire Opposition is scared into silence,” he added.

The ED raids were underway at the residence of the AAP MLA, Gulab Singh Yadav, from Delhi’s Matiala seat.

The comes two days after the central agency arrested Delhi CM Kejriwal, in the excise policy case.

Meanwhile, ED, which was given the custody of Delhi CM Kejriwal until March 28, has alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged excise policy scam.

ED, which was given the custody of Delhi CM Kejriwal until March 28, has alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged excise policy scam.

“Part of the proceeds of crime to the tune of cash of Rs 45 crore approx. has been utilised in the election campaign of AAP in Goa Assembly elections 2022,” the ED alleged.

The agency further claimed that Kejriwal was directly involved in the formation of the Excise policy.

“Arvind Kejriwal has also been intrinsically involved in the entire conspiracy of the Delhi liquor Scam wherein the policy was drafted and implemented in a manner wherein certain private persons were favoured and benefitted in a quid pro quo of receiving kickbacks,” the probe agency said in its remand note.

ED also claimed that due to the actions of Arvind Kejriwal involving excise policy formulation, hatching the conspiracy of kickbacks with the South Group members, and eventually using part of the proceeds of crime generated out of this scheduled offence in the election campaign of AAP for the Goa Assembly elections, it is clear that all these activities were not only done with his knowledge but also his active collusion.

Delhi CM Kejriwal was arrested by the central agency after he skipped multiple summons by the investigation agency, nine in total, calling them “illegal.”

The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi Excise Policy 2022, which was later scrapped. (ANI)

Amul US

Amul, Milk Products Go International With Launch In US

Popular dairy brand Amul, whose tagline is ‘Taste of India’, has now launched fresh milk products on the international stage for the first time and is now ready to cater to the people in the United States.

“I am pleased to inform that Amul shall be launching its fresh milk products in the United States of America. Happy to inform that we have tied up with a 108-year-old dairy cooperative in the US – Michigan Milk Producers Association, and this announcement was done at their annual meeting on March 20 at Detroit,” said Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which operates Amul.

“This is for the first time Amul fresh products range will be launched anywhere outside India and in a market like the United States, which has a very strong Indian and Asian diaspora,” Mehta told ANI.

Further, he said Amul hopes to expand the brand and become the largest dairy company in line with the vision given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he attended its golden jubilee celebrations recently.

Amul’s entrepreneurial spirit has made it one of the strongest dairy brands in the world.

Addressing the gathering during the golden jubilee celebration, the Prime Minister asserted that a sapling that was planted 50 years ago by the farmers of Gujarat has become a giant tree.

Amul products are exported to more than 50 countries around the world. It has under it 18,000 milk cooperative committees, a network of 36,000 farmers, processing more than 3.5 crore litres of milk per day.

The evolution of the dairy sector in India and the stellar role played by dairy cooperatives since the launch of Operation Flood form an integral part of the country’s growth story as the country now is the largest producer of milk.

India contributes about 21 per cent to global milk production.

It is important to note that during the 1950s and 1960s the situation of India’s dairy sector was radically different as it was a milk-deficit nation and depended more on imports.

Following a visit of then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to the Anand district of Gujarat in 1964, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was created in 1965 with a mandate to support the creation of the ‘Anand pattern’ of dairy cooperatives across the country through the Operation Flood (OF) programme which was to be implemented in phases.

Verghese Kurien, widely renowned as the “Father of White Revolution” in India, was the first chairman of NDDB. Along with his team, Kurien commenced work on the launch of the project which envisaged the organisation of Anand-pattern cooperatives in milk sheds across the country from where liquid milk produced and procured by milk cooperatives would be transported to cities. This Is My First Chance To Cast Vote

‘This Is My First Chance To Cast Vote, And I Feel Proud About It’

Akhshay Kumar Singh, 21, an undergraduate student in Lucknow, says being part of the government formation in an electoral democracy is a great feeling. His Views:

Till now, I was merely a spectator in the electoral exercise whenever elections fever hit the country. With my freshly minted Election Card in pocket, I feel a sense of pride that this year I will be an active participant in the festival of democracy this year when the nations goes to choose members of the 18th Lok Sabha.

I have avid interest in current affairs, and therefore I have been observing things around me for the past several years. I see there is a visible change in everything that governs us of late – be it infrastructure, education, health and overall, the stature of India in the world. Though I am young enough to make a physical comparison of what India was about 10 to 15 years ago, being an extensive internet buff, I have been extensively comparing the present situation of India (in every aspect) with the past and feel pride at the changes being brought about.

I must admit that I did not witness any previous governments other than the current regime but seeing the working and commitment of this government, I feel this is what how the state leadership of any country should be like – inclusive and dedicated for the cause of its people and its polity.

However, sometimes I also feel pity for some politicians and political parties giving absurd logics and making baseless allegations of some issues pertaining to the development or the society of the country. Take for example the Ram Temple – some are fiercely labeling it as a religious (Hindu) ploy of the present government to please a particular section of the voters and going to even senseless allegations saying that it was a program of the BJP and the RSS. The matter is as simple as that – Once a temple existed, it was brought down and a Masjid was built and again a Temple was built after the court’s order. Why such hues and cries in a country where Sanatan is deep rooted and was the original art of living when we came to existence?

ALSO READ: ‘I’m a First-Time Voter, But Have No Faith In Electoral Politics’

Being one of the first and the youngest voters of my democracy, I am very much excited and have also literally started a campaign, along with some of my friends, to spread awareness. Identify and educate new voters about the process of being enrolled in the electoral list and getting a voter ID made without hassle.

I also feel pity when I see the percentage of voter turnout in the subsequent elections that take part in our country like festivals. Be it any part of the country, it always remains between 40 to 60 percent making a mockery of the immense pains taken by the authorities and the amount of resources (including money) involved in conducting the elections.

More surprising is the difference in the pattern between the urban and rural voters where the latter wins (in terms of turnout) with big margins. If we (urban voters) claim to be more educated and more socially responsible, where does our commitment go at the time of voting? What I suggest is that there should be a system like some western and developed countries where you need to give a concrete reason in writing for not coming out to vote and face a punishment for making a false alibi.

As told to Rajat Rai

INDIA Bloc To Meet ECI Today: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today the INDIA bloc alliance will be meeting the Election Commission to express their “strong objection to the deliberate targeting” and “arrest” of opposing leaders at a time when the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced after the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Expressing solidarity with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise case on Thursday night, CM Mamata said that she personally reached out to Sunita Kejriwal to extend her “unwavering support”.

In a post on X, the ruling Trinamool Congress Chief said, “I vehemently condemn the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the sitting elected Chief Minister of Delhi elected by the people. I have personally reached out to Smt Sunita Kejriwal to extend my unwavering support and solidarity.”

“It’s outrageous that while elected opposition CMs are being deliberately targeted and arrested while individuals accused under CBI/ED investigations are allowed to continue their malpractices with impunity, especially after aligning with the BJP. This is a blatant assault on democracy,” CM Mamata added in her post.

CM Mamata said that Rajya Sabha MP’s Derek O’Brien and Mohd Nadimul Haque will represent the TMC in the meeting with the poll panel.

“Today, our INDIA alliance will meet the EC to express our strong objection to the deliberate targeting and arrests of opposition leaders, particularly during the MCC period. To this end, I have designated @derekobrienmp and @MdNadimulHaque6 to represent @AITCofficial in this crucial meeting with the Election Commission,” she said.

The opposition bloc has come out in support of Arvind Kejriwal after his arrest.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in a post on X in Hindi, wrote, “You will arrest Arvind Kejriwal but how will you arrest his thinking. Arvind Kejriwal is not a person but an idea and we stand with our leader like a rock. Inquilab Zindabad!”

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor condemned the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister, saying, “I call upon the Supreme Court to take Suo Motu cognizance on what has happened… What has happened is violative of the spirit of democracy.”

Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest came days after the ED arrested Bharat Rashta Samithi (BRS), the leader and daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in connection with its investigation into money laundering charges linked to the now-scrapped excise policy.

Kejriwal’s arrest also comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which will be held from April 19 to June 1, as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission earlier in the month. (ANI)

Anna Hazare

Kejriwal’s Arrest Is Because Of His Own Deeds: Anna Hazare

Following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, social activist Anna Hazare on Friday said that the arrest of the AAP chief was because of his own “deeds.”

“I am very upset that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds,” Hazare said on Friday.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy case on Thursday night, in which two senior AAP leaders are already in judicial custody.

Arvind Kejriwal had joined the Anna movement in 2011 against the then Congress government’s alleged corruption. He rode on to fame, floated his own political party in 2012, and contested for the chief minister’s office.

In another development, the Delhi Chief Minister earlier withdrew his plea from the Supreme Court against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case as it was clashing with his remand.

Kejriwal was arrested after skipping nine summonses issued against him by the Enforcement Directorate and Delhi High Court, which refused to grant him relief from any coercive action by the probe agency.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi excise policy case 2022, which was later scrapped.

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya lashed out at the Congress, an AAP partner in INDIA bloc, for coming out in support of Arvind Kejriwal, said, “Congress is the mother of corruption… The language that their leader Rahul Gandhi is using will be decided in the Lok Sabha polls… People took it as their right to indulge in corruption.”

“They keep accusing the central agencies as if they are working at the orders of the PMO or the HMO. The agencies are working neutrally. Arvind Kejriwal was issued 9 summonses but he is has the pride of power. If the ED is wrong, then he should have gone to court…,” the BJP leader said.

Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest came days after the ED arrested K Kavitha, Bharat Rashta Samithi (BRS) leader and daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in connection with its investigation into money laundering charges linked to the now-scrapped excise policy.

Earlier Manish Sisodia, who was the then Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the CBI on February 26 following several rounds of questioning. On October 5, ED arrested Sanjay Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha member.

Kejriwal’s arrest also comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which will be held from April 19 to June 1, as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission earlier in the month. (ANI)
