Modi Recalls Ekta Yatra In Lok Sabha

Recalling his Ekta Yatra to Jammu and Kashmir in 1991, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that he had unfurled the Tricolour at Lal Chowk on January 26 “without a bulletproof jacket” despite the terrorists’ threats.

The Prime Minister said that there is peace in Jammu and Kashmir now and tourism is on a historic rise following the abrogation of Article 370.
“Those (referring to Rahul Gandhi who recently concluded Bharat Jodo Yatra in J-K) who came back from J-K recently must have seen how easily you can go in J-K. I too had gone on a yatra to J&K with the resolve to unfurl the Tricolour at Lal Chowk. Terrorists had put up posters and said, “Dekhte hain, kisne maa ka doodh piya hai jo Lal Chowk aake Tiranga phehra paaye”,” PM Modi said while addressing Lok Sabha during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.

“That day on January 24, at a public rally, I had said, “Terrorists pay heed. On January 26, sharp at 11 am, I will reach Lal Chowk without security and a bulletproof jacket. Faisla Lal Chowk pe hoga kisne apni maa ka doodh piya hai”. Then I unfurled the Tricolour at Lal Chowk,” he added.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister took an apparent swipe at the Opposition leaders in J-K and said that they participated in the Tiranga Yatra (Bharat Jodo Yatra).

“Today there is peace, people can go easily in hundreds in number. J-K has broken various records in the field of tourism after decades. The Festival of democracy is being celebrated in J-K. Today, there is a successful campaign of Har Ghar Tiranga. Some people used to say that there is a danger of disruption in peace due to the Tricolour. Look at the time, even those people participated in the Tiranga Yatra,” he said.

The Prime Minister further took a dig at the Opposition parties and said that Enforcement Directorate is+ behind their unity.

“A lot of things were said in the House about the probe agencies. I had thought that the people of the country and the results of the elections would bring such people to one stage. But that did not happen. They should thank ED that due to it they have now come together,” he said.

Citing a study at Harvard, the Prime Minister said that the subject of the study is “Rise and fall of India’s Congress Party”.

“Some people here have a craze for Harvard studies. During Covid, it was said that there will be a case study on the devastation in India. Over the years an important study has been done at Harvard and the subject of the study is the ‘Rise and fall of India’s Congress Party’,” he said.

“Those who are drunk in arrogance and think that only they have the knowledge, feel that only by abusing Modi will be a way out…Only through false, nonsensical mudslinging on Modi will a path be paved. It has been 22 years, and they still have a misapprehension,” PM Modi added.

The Prime Minister further said that the people’s trust in him was not due to the newspaper headlines but hard work.

“Trust in Modi was not born out of newspaper headlines, not through faces on TV. (I have) given my life, every moment of mine for the people of the country, for the glorious future of the country. People’s trust in Modi is beyond their understanding,” he said.

Later in the day, Lok Sabha adopted the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. (ANI)

Special Meaning Behind Kiara's Customised Kaleeras

Special Meaning Behind Kiara’s Customised Kaleeras

As Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani finally got hitched in a royal wedding in Jaisalmer’s Suryagarh Palace, several glimpses from their grand marriage ceremony made their way on social media and be it their outfits or the jewellery, the newlywed couple stood out in every aspect.

For the ceremony, while Sidharth opted for an ivory sherwani with an exquisite royal lustre, Kiara donned a Manish Malhotra-designed pink lehenga, which featured intricate embroidery detailing of roman architecture. It was inspired by the special love the newlyweds share for the city of domes.
However, what stood out the most were Kiara’s dazzling customized kaleeras, which are umbrella-shaped dangling ornaments that are attached to the bride’s choodas. Mrinalini Chandra had designed Kiara’s kaleeras, which featured stars, moon, the couple’s initials and butterflies.

They also had a thoughtful dedication to Sidharth’s late pet dog and the newlywed couple’s favourite travel destination.

Meanwhile, Kiara’s neckpiece features an exquisite composition of ultra-fine hand-cut diamonds crafted with rare Zambian emeralds. She was seen wearing a diamond ring, prompting speculations that it is her wedding ring.

The couple got married as per Hindu traditions with band baaja and baraat. Famous ‘Jea’ wedding band from Delhi arrived at the venue on Tuesday.

Kiara and Sidharth have always been tight-lipped about their relationship. They neither accepted nor denied the dating rumours.

Sidharth and Kiara apparently fell in love while shooting for ‘Shershaah’, which was released in 2021. The duo was often seen hanging out together which added extra fuel to their relationship rumours.

Kiara revealed in an episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’ season 7 that she first met Sidharth at the wrap-up party of ‘Lust Stories’. She also confessed that she and Sidharth Malhotra are definitely more than “close friends.” (ANI)

Turkey Earthquake Death Toll Nears 9500

The Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll stands at 9,487, CNN reported citing officials as rescue operations continue in the disaster-hit countries.

According to aid organisations and rescuers, the number of fatalities is expected to rise as many people are still buried beneath the wreckage.
At least 6,957 people have died and more than 38,000 people have been injured in Turkey, according to the country’s environment minister Murat Kurum, who said at a televised briefing on Wednesday. According to CNN, in Syria, at least 2,530 people have died.

Many people attempted to evacuate the destroyed city of Gaziantep, which is situated around 33 kilometres (20 miles) from the epicentre, after a series of earthquakes and aftershocks in Turkey and Syria.

Those who could not leave the city on Tuesday sought sanctuary in malls, stadiums, mosques, and community centres because the airport and numerous roads outside the city were blocked.

The search for survivors of the terrible earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on Monday continues on Wednesday. Foreign aid from multiple countries has started arriving in the region.

Rescuers are racing to pull survivors from earthquake rubble before they succumb to cold weather in southern Turkey and war-ravaged northern Syria. As the death toll climbed, despair and anger were growing over the pace of rescue efforts, reported Khaleej Times.

The quake, one of the strongest to hit the region in more than 100 years, struck 23 kilometres (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometres (14.9 miles), the US Geological Survey said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared a three-month-long state of emergency in 10 provinces as rescuers race against time in Turkey and Syria following Monday’s devastating earthquake. (ANI)

Modi Wears Jacket Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles

Modi Wears Jacket Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday came to parliament wearing a jacket made from recycled plastic bottles giving a message about sustainability.

The Prime Minister chose to wear a sky-blue bandhgala jacket when he came to the Rajya Sabha today. Later in the day, PM Modi is likely to reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha.
Under the ‘Unbottled’ initiative of Indian Oil, the Prime Minister on Monday had launched the uniforms made from recycled plastic at the ongoing India Energy Week 2023 in Bengaluru.

During the event, PM Modi had linked India’s effort for Green Growth, and Energy Transition with Indian values of where the circular economy is part of every Indian’s lifestyle and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are part of the culture.

He said initiatives of recycling plastic bottles into uniforms will strengthen Mission LiFE.

“These huge efforts of India towards green growth and energy transition also reflect our values. Circular economy, in a way, is a part of the lifestyle of every Indian. The mantra of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle has been ingrained in our values. Today, we got to see an example of this here. You have seen uniforms made by recycling plastic waste bottles. It does not lack anywhere as far as the world of fashion and beauty is concerned. The target of recycling 100 million such bottles every year will go a long way in protecting the environment,” PM Modi had said.

Guided by the vision of the Prime Minister to phase out single-use plastic, Indian Oil has adopted uniforms for retail customer attendants and LPG delivery personnel made from recycled polyester (rPET) & cotton.

Each set of uniforms of Indian Oil’s customer attendant shall support recycling of around 28 used PET bottles.

Indian Oil is taking this initiative further through ‘Unbottled’ – a brand for sustainable garments launched for merchandise made from recycled polyester. Under this brand, Indian Oil targets to meet the requirement of uniforms for the customer attendants of other Oil Marketing Companies, non-combat uniforms for the Army, uniforms/ dresses for Institutions & sales to retail customers.

At the COP26 summit in Glasgow in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had committed to an ambitious five-part “Panchamrit” pledge, including reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, to generate half of all energy requirements from renewables, to reduce emissions by 1 billion tons by 2030.

India also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of GDP by 45 per cent. Finally, India commits to net-zero emissions by 2070.

Notably, India banned several single-use plastics starting July 2022.

Single-use plastics are typically items that are discarded after being used only once and do not go through the recycling process. (ANI)

Lucknow To Be Renamed As 'Lakshman Nagari': UP Dy CM Pathak

Lucknow To Be Renamed As ‘Lakshman Nagari’: UP Dy CM Pathak

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak made a statement about the demand to change the name of Lucknow and said that it is well known about Lucknow that it was the city of Laxman. The government will update about the situation regarding the name change said the Dy CM Brijesh Pathak reached the Bhadohi tour on Wednesday.

In Bhadohi, the Deputy CM held a review meeting regarding the progress of various schemes and development works the in the district. After he also unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Suriyava.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak gave a big statement regarding the demand of BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta to change the name of Lucknow.

He said that everyone knows that Lucknow was the city of Laxman. There will be further talks on the situation regarding the change of name.

The way the Deputy CM named Lucknow as Laxman Nagri, it is clear that he has the intention of renaming Lucknow as Laxman Nagri.

On the other hand, he said that Rahul Gandhi’s mental balance has completely deteriorated. Whenever Congress governments have been there, they have been completely immersed in corruption. Coal scams, commonwealth scams and many big scams took place in Congress governments. Congress is just a family party.

While attacking Rahul Gandhi, he said that Rahul Gandhi’s mental balance has completely deteriorated.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sangam Lal Gupta on Tuesday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to change the name of Uttar Pradesh’s capital city of Lucknow to “Lakhanpur or Laxmanpur”.

Stating that the city was earlier named Lakhanpur and Laxmanpur in the Treta Yug, the BJP MP claimed that Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula had renamed it Lucknow.

Gupta said that Lucknow was gifted by Lord Ram to his brother and King of Ayodhya Laxman in the Treta Yug, which is why the city was known as Lakhanpur and Laxmanpur.

“Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, which according to the local belief was gifted by Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram to Ayodhya King Shri Laxman ji in Treta Yug and for that reason it was named Lakhanpur and Laxmanpur, but later in the 48th century, Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula renamed and changed it to Lucknow. It has been called Lucknow in the same tradition,” the BJP MP wrote in his letter to the Home Minister.

“It is worth mentioning here that today in a country that is rich in glorious cultural heritage, it seems completely wrong to give a signal of slavery by telling stories of luxury and wastefulness of the Nawabs of Lucknow to our future generation even in the ‘Amrit Kaal’. Due to this, Lord Dalhousie acquired Awadh and merged it with the British Empire and Nawab Wajid Ali Shah accepted British subordination,” he added.

Gupta requested Shah to rename the Uttar Pradesh capital city in order to “preserve India’s cultural heritage”.

“I request you to change the name of the capital of Uttar Pradesh Lucknow to Lakhanpur or Laxmanpur in Amrit Kaal in order to preserve India’s cultural heritage and combine the glorious history by erasing the symbol of slavery,” Gupta tweeted.

Notably, various BJP leaders have also referred to Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar and demands have been raised in the past to rename the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also referred to Telangana’s capital as Bhagyanagar during his address to the party workers at the BJP National Executive meeting in July 2022. (ANI)

RBI Projects India's GDP Growth At 6.4% For 2023-24

RBI Projects India’s GDP Growth At 6.4% For 2023-24

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected India’s real GDP growth to be at 6.4 per cent for the next financial year 2023-24.

“Broad-based credit growth, improving capacity utilisation, government’s thrust on capital spending and infrastructure should bolster investment activity,” RBI governor Shaktikanta Das said on Wednesday while announcing the monetary policy meeting outcome.
“According to our surveys, manufacturing, services and infrastructure sector firms are optimistic about the business outlook. On the other hand, protracted geopolitical tensions, tightening global financial conditions and slowing external demand may continue as downside risks to domestic output.”

The GDP projections for Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 2023-24 are estimated at 7.8 per cent, 6.2 per cent, 6.0 per cent, and 5.8 per cent, respectively, with risks, evenly balanced.

Meanwhile, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the RBI decided to raise the repo rate, at which the RBI lends money to all commercial banks, by 25 basis points to 6.5 per cent.

Four out of six members of MPC have decided to go ahead with this hike in the repo rate, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said.

The Shaktikanta Das-headed Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) started its three-day meeting on February 6 amid the rate hiking spree that started in May last year to check inflation.

India’s retail inflation during the month of December was at 5.72 per cent, versus 5.88 per cent in November and 6.77 per cent during October.

India’s retail inflation was above RBI’s six per cent target for three consecutive quarters and had managed to fall back to the RBI’s comfort zone in November 2022.

Since May last year, the RBI has increased the short-term lending rate (repo rate) by 250 basis points, including today’s, to contain inflation, driven mainly by external factors, especially global supply chain disruptions following the Russia-Ukraine war outbreak. (ANI)

US Will Act To Protect Sovereignty If Threatened By China: Biden

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday (local time) highlighted the “serious challenges” America faces “across the world” and warned China that Washington “will act to protect sovereignty if threatened” by Beijing.

Biden while delivering his first major speech to a divided Congress after Republicans took control of the House of Representatives, said, “If China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country. Let’s be clear, winning the competition with China should unite all of us. We face serious challenges across the world. In the past two years, democracies have become stronger, not weaker.”
The US President said that when he took over the charge of office, the story was about how China was increasing its power and America was falling in the world.

“Not anymore. I’ve made clear with President Xi that we seek competition, not conflict,” said Biden in his second State of the Union address at the US Capitol.

He said that the US is in the strongest position in decades to compete with China or anyone else in the world.

“I will make no apologies that we are investing to make America strong. Investing in American innovation, in industries that will define the future, and that China’s government is intent on dominating. Investing in our alliances and working with our allies to protect our advanced technologies so they’re not used against us.

Modernizing our military to safeguard stability and deter aggression,” said Biden.

Biden further stated that he is committed to working with China where it can advance American interests and benefit the world.

The US President also reiterated that “winning the competition with China should unite all of us,” referring to Republicans working with him, decrying “fighting for the sake of fighting” in Washington.

“Republican friends, we could work together,” he said.

“We’re often told that Democrats or Republicans can’t work together. But over the past two years, we proved the cynics and naysayers wrong,” he said, pointing to several laws passed with bipartisan support.

Notably, the relations between US and China deteriorated after a Chinese spy balloon was spotted over American airspace.

China has rejected Washington’s request for a telephone call between US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and his Beijing counterpart Wei Fenghe, The New York Times reported citing Pentagon. The request was made on Saturday soon after a US fighter aircraft shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina.

The Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Patrick S Ryder in an emailed statement said that Washington believes in the importance of maintaining communication between the US and China. He said that China has “declined” US’ request to arrange call between Lloyd Austin and Wei Fenghe.

Moreover, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed a trip to Beijing that was due to take place last weekend after the balloon was spotted in the American skies. The Chinese balloon was first spotted over Montana, then it traversed the country before it was shot down by US fighter aircraft. (ANI)

Zoom To Lay Off 1,300 Employees

Zoom To Lay Off 1,300 Employees

Zoom on Tuesday announced that it will lay off about 1,300 employees, or approximately 15 percent of its staff, becoming the latest tech company to announce significant job cuts. In a message to employees on Zoom Blog, Zoom’s Chief Executive Officer Eric Yuan said the layoffs will impact every part of the organization.

“We have made the tough but necessary decision to reduce our team by approximately 15 percent and say goodbye to around 1,300 hardworking, talented colleagues,” Eric Yuan wrote.
Yuan stated that he and other executives will take a significant pay cut. In the message to employees, he admitted to making “mistakes” in how quickly the company grew during the pandemic.

“As the CEO and founder of Zoom, I am accountable for these mistakes and the actions we take today- and I want to show accountability not just in words but in my own actions,” Eric Yuan wrote.

He added, “To that end, I am reducing my salary for the coming fiscal year by 98 percent and foregoing my FY23 corporate bonus. Members of my executive leadership team will reduce their base salaries by 20 percent for the coming fiscal year while also forfeiting their FY23 corporate bonuses.”

In a message to employees, Eric Yuan stated that a US-based employee who is impacted will receive an email to his/her Zoom and personal inboxes in the next 30 minutes. He further stated that non-US employees will be informed after following local requirements.

Eric Yuan wrote, “If you are a US-based employee who is impacted, you will receive an email to your Zoom and personal inboxes in the next 30 minutes that reads [IMPACTED] Departing Zoom: What You Need to Know. Non-US employees will be notified following local requirements.”

“For those Zoomies waking up to this news or reading this after normal work hours, I am sorry you are finding out this way but we felt it was best to notify all impacted Zoomies as soon as possible,” he added.

Yuan stated the company staffed up “rapidly” during the early days of the pandemic to support the increase in demand as people started using Zoom to video chat with friends and colleagues. He wrote, “Within 24 months, Zoom grew 3x in size to manage this demand while enabling continued innovation.”

To those affected by Zoom layoffs in the US, the company will give up to 16 weeks’ salary and healthcare coverage, payment of earned FY’23 annual bonus based on company performance, RSU, and stock option vesting for six months for US employees, and through August 9, 2023, for non-US employees.

Furthermore, outplacement services, including 1:1 coaching, workshops, networking groups, and more will be given to departing employees. Moreover, support for Zoom employees outside the US will be similar. (ANI)

On Tuesday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that around 7,500 Turkish soldiers are working in the earthquake-affected region to assist with rescue operations.

Hulusi Akar also said an additional 1,500 personnel will join the team on Wednesday. Hulusi Akar said that 75 military aircraft have been dispatched to the region, as per the CNN report. He added that nine commando battalions have arrived in the region from the west and four commando battalions from Cyprus will arrive in the region as well.

On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in 10 southern provinces which were hit by massive quakes, Anadolu Agency reported.

While addressing the State Information Coordination Center in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said, “Based on the authority given to us by Article 119 of the Constitution, we decided to declare a state of emergency.”

“We will quickly complete the presidential and parliamentary processes about the state of emergency decision, which will cover 10 provinces where earthquakes have occurred and will last for three months,” he added.

Erdogan’s remarks came after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras province on Monday. He further said, “It has caused great destruction in a very wide area compared to their counterparts. Therefore, we are faced with one of the biggest disasters not only in our Republic’s history but also in our geography and the world.”

As per the Anadolu Agency report, Erdogan emphasized that considering the devastating effect of the earthquake, they ordered expert personnel and vehicles from all over the country to immediately move to the region. He stated that despite the difficulties caused by the weather conditions, the teams struggled selflessly to reach the disaster region and participate in the work. (ANI)
