Delhi Effigy Makers

Delhi Effigy Makers Back In Business After Two Bad Fiscal Years

Today is Vijayadashami, and the excitement of the festive spirit is at its peak!

Every year, Dussehra is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil as Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day. The festival is celebrated in full swing across the country, by burning the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath.
After a hiatus of a few years, the effigy business is getting back on track.

Earlier, we spoke to a local artisan from Titarpur in New Delhi – Naveen, and he revealed, “People are coming back in huge numbers to book Ravan effigies. Due to Covid, during the past few years, the business was not so good, but things are getting better now and customers are back. But now, the rates of effigies are a bit high as compared to previous times, now it costs Rs 500 per foot. We began the preparation 2 months ahead of the festival and we start the deliveries 2 days before Dussehra.”

“During Covid, Ravan idols were made in fewer numbers, we used to create only small mannequins of 5 feet and 10 feet, for the common people who can burn those effigies on the streets. But this year, the situation is quite different, we are celebrating every festival and the effigy business is also going really well, and the craze among the people for Dussehra is very high and we are flooded with bookings this year. This year we will see a good hike in sales, we have been working day and night for the past two months to create these effigies. We create effigies from 5 feet to 50 feet and the pricing begins from Rs 500 per foot, “Sonu, a local artist said.

On being asked whether the firecracker ban has affected the sales in Delhi or not, Naveen said, “No, it doesn’t matter, we only construct the effigies, it’s the customer’s choice to put firecrackers in it or not, they do it by themselves.” People opt for eco-friendly firecrackers to create less pollution during Dussehra. “

In a conversation with ANI, effigy maker Poonam said, “Yes, we are facing a big loss due to the firecracker ban by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi.” Every year, CM Kejriwal puts a ban on firecrackers, during Diwali everyone bursts crackers, but only during Dussehra, he put a ban on them. We don’t put crackers in the effigies, people bring them and put them on their own. But because of the ban, there has been a huge downfall in the number of clients. Mostly, the customers cancel their already booked orders due to the ban. If the government doesn’t want us to do our business, then simply tell us. We don’t want to face loss at the last moment. “

“The number of firecrackers has now been reduced from 500 to 300 by CM Kejriwal. We don’t put crackers in the mannequins, that’s the customer’s call whether to put crackers or not,” Mahendra Karari, Ravan effigy creator told ANI.

Apart from making effigy during the festive season, local vendors indulge in their different businesses for the rest of the year for their source of income.

“Dussehra festival comes once a year, and we have our other source of income as well. I am a driver for the whole year. But during Dussehra, I make Ravan since my childhood in Titarpur, said Naveen.

Karari said, “We work in the hotel line during the whole year, and some of our work in brass bands during the marriage season, and some people work at local sweet shops.”

In some regions, the celebration—also known as Vijayadashami—celebrates Goddess Durga’s triumph over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. (ANI)

Minor Killed By Two Men As Sacrifice To God: Delhi

In a shocking incident, a 6-year-old boy was allegedly killed by two men in South Delhi’s Lodhi Colony on Saturday night in what they claimed was a “sacrifice on the orders of God”.

According to Delhi Police, the incident took place on Saturday night at the construction site of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquarters in the posh Lodhi Colony area.
The Delhi Police got a PCR call in the early hours of Sunday at Lodhi Colony that the throat of a 6-year-old boy was slit by two men at an under-construction building. Police personnel rushed to the spot and arrested the two accused, who were already caught by other laborers and CRPF personnel on duty.

The victim was identified as the son of one of the laborers working at the site. They are natives of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly.

Police said both the accused, Vijay Kumar and Aman Kumar, are natives of Bihar and worked as cement cutters at the site.

According to Police, the accused were under the influence of drugs when they allegedly slit the child’s neck.

Police said the child was also known to the accused and there was no enmity with the family.

At around 10:30 pm on Saturday, the accused called the child when he was going to his shed. They took the boy to their cooking space and committed the act, said police. One of the accused told Delhi Police that he had a vision that “Bhole Baba wants them to slit the throat of a child.”

Akalis Cong in Punjab

Akalis, Cong Finished In Punjab, People Fed Up With AAP: Capt

Exuding confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will come to power in Punjab, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh say that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress are finished in Punjab and the people of the state are fed up with Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in six months.

Last month, Singh had joined the BJP and merged his party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with BJP.
Speaking to ANI, “I am very happy ever since I joined BJP and I feel that now BJP will rule all over India and in coming times in Punjab also because there is neither a leader in Congress nor leadership.”

Talking about the situation of the Congress party, the former Punjab CM said that it is very difficult for the grand old party to come out of the present condition in which they are in, because the Gandhi family wants “yes man”, even in the party presidential elections.

Amarinder Singh had floated the PLC last year after quitting Congress following his unceremonious exit as chief minister.

In September last year, Amarinder Singh had resigned from Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.

He stitched an alliance with the BJP that already had made SAD (Sanyukt) as its ally.

Former Chief Minister further said that BJP will form govt both in Punjab and the Center.

“Akali Dal and Congress are finished in Punjab and people are fed up with Aam Aadmi Party, so now BJP will rule in Punjab and together we will bring BJP power in Punjab and at the Centre,” said Singh.

It is pertinent to mention that Amarinder Singh failed to win polls from his home turf of Patiala Urban in Assembly polls. His party also failed to win even a single seat in the state assembly polls.

In six months of the government of Bhagwant Mann, he said that the APP government in Punjab has failed in all ways.

“I have been in politics for more than 50 years but I have not yet seen a government like this which has brought its confidence motion within six months. This shows that nothing good is going on within the government and this government has failed in all ways,” he added.

Further slamming the AAP government over the law and order situation, the former CM said, “Law and order are the responsibility of the state government. The government needs to crack down on the issue of Khalistan. Khalistan slogans weren’t raised during my tenure as I took strict steps. According to the Constitution, the state government has the right to keep its province safe. They are not doing anything.”

Attacking Pakistan for making attempts to create unrest in Pakistan, Singh targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for faltering in dispensing his duties.

“Pakistan is engaged in sending drones and efforts are being made to spread unrest in Punjab. The Chief Minister is not able to give as much time as he should. The duty of running the government here was of Bhagwant Mann but he is not doing it,” Singh said.

“This is the duty of the Punjab government, it is the duty of Bhagwant Mann as law and order is state subject,” Singh added.

On the question of making Governor by the government, Singh said he would follow what BJP will ask him to do but he will not contest elections.

“I have been in the army since the beginning, so if the BJP government of India tells me I am ready to fight, but now I will not contest elections,” he said.

He also expressed happiness over the closure of the Twitter handle of Pakistan by the Central Government and said that it should have been done earlier.

The Twitter account of the Pakistani government has been taken down in India. “Account Withheld. @GovtofPakistan’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand,” a message in the page read.

“I want to congratulate the Government of India for this because Pakistan is always engaged in destabilizing India and Punjab,” he said.

Responding to his wife Preneet Kaur’s question, he said, “It is her wish that from which party she contests elections, but if she asks for my opinion, then I will advise her to fight from BJP.” (ANI)

AAP MLA Mankotia

Former AAP MLA Mankotia From Udhampur Joins BJP

Days after being expelled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Jammu, former Udhampur MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital on Thursday.

Last week on September 23, AAP terminated Mankotia from the party for anti-party activities.
“It has come to our knowledge that you are involved in anti-party activities, mainly engaging with other national and regional political parties in J-K, not engaging or participating in any of the party’s political activities and not performing any task given by the party for the last three months,” AAP election in-charge Harjot Singh Bains said in a letter to Mankotia.

As per the letter, Mankotia has also been charged with serious allegations of influencing AAP volunteers to join other parties and offering them positions in other parties and defaming the party on media platforms.

“The Legal Cell of Aam Aadmi Party is available to conduct the investigation at any point of moment, may collect the copies of publicly available social media posts or interviews & it may focus on any other such activity which ultimately defames the Patry causing harm to the reputation of the Party,” the letter reads.

“Aam Aadmi Party nevertheless is more vigilant about those who distract members/co-volunteers from getting their work done or who cause other volunteers to feel uncomfortable or involved in any other anti-party activity. All volunteers; members are expected to treat each other with respect, any discriminatory language or conduct will not be tolerated,” it said.

The letter further accused Mankotia of influencing AAP volunteers to join other parties and offering them positions in other parties and also defaming the party.

“Party has taken serious note of these issues (anti-party activities) and after investigation, you have been found guilty. Therefore, your basic membership with AAP standards terminated from September 23,” the letter stated. (ANI)

Waqf Board Case: Order On Bail For Amanat Ullah Khan Reserved

A Delhi Court on Tuesday reserved the order on the bail plea of Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA Amanat Ullah Khan after hearing the arguments of the counsel accused and Prosecution.

The AAP MLA was arrested in a case related to alleged irregularities in appointments in Delhi Waqf Board during his chairmanship.
On Monday the court sent AAP MLA Amanat Ullah Khan to judicial custody remand after the police custody remand.

Another accused Kausar Imran Siddiqui alias Laddan was produced on a production warrant before the court. He was interrogated and thereafter arrested with the permission of the court. He was in judicial custody in another case lodged at Jamia Nagar police station.

The court granted two days of custody of Laddan for interrogation.

Special CBI Judge Vikas Dhull reserved the order on the bail plea of Amanat Ullah Khan after hearing the arguments of both sides.

Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra, while arguing on behalf of Amanat Ullah Khan, submitted that there is evidence to show that there was any violation of rules and regulations in appointing the contractual employees of the board when as such no rules are in place.

Rahul Mehra further argued that each and every decision was taken by the board collectively, but Amanat Ullah Khan has been made the only accused in this case.

The senior advocate also submitted that there is no rule which bars the recruitment of persons of a constituency, area or family if they are otherwise qualified.

He also said that the recruitment was done through a walk-in interview and an advertisement was also published in the newspaper.

It was also argued that there was no violation of rules and regulations or demand and acceptance of any bribes or money. There is no material to show that the illegal money was recovered from the accused which is reflected in the diary recovered from Laddan’s house.

Therefore the sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act are not made out, the counsel for the accused submitted.

The senior advocate said that there was a bidding process for renting out the shops of the board. Everything is on paper. There is nothing to show that there was any criminality.

He also submitted that another case related to the appointment was registered by the CBI in 2016 against the accused but his not arrested as the premier agency is not bloodthirsty, unlike other agencies.

There were 25 cases against the accused, out of which in 20 cases he has been acquitted, discharged or the cases have been compromised. Five cases are still pending out of which one is of the CBI in which a charge sheet has been filed but the accused was not arrested.

In the present case, the accused has been arrested even after 2 years of investigation. Despite this the Prosecution has nothing against the accused even after 10 days of custody, Mehra argued.

While opposing the bail plea additional public prosecutor (APP) Atul Shrivastava submitted that there is evidence against the accused and he is a very influential person. He may influence the witnesses in this case.

APP submitted that there were Irregularities in the appointment. These appointments were made in violation of rules and his own people were employed.

He also submitted that the funds of Rs. 3.2 crores meant for widows’ help were paid as employees’ salaries. Thus, there was a misappropriation of funds.

AAP argued that there was an alleged demand of Rs.10 lakh from a successful bidder for renting a shop. When he refused to pay the bribe he was allegedly forced to withdraw the bid.

He also referred to a screenshot of a mobile in connection with the alleged payment of Rs.1 Lakh which was part alleged gratification of Rs. 7 lakh allegedly paid a person to the associates of Amant Ullah.

The APP also said that the accused was not cooperating in the investigation. He did not disclose his phone correctly. AAP MLA allegedly said his phone was lost on the day of arrest. The AAP showed a video on the mobile in which the accused was handed over to someone.

It was also alleged that the accused misused his official position as chairman of the board by appointing his own people, even his blood relatives. This section of Corruption is made out against him.

It was alleged that the successful bidder was forced to withdraw his bid for the rent of a property.

The court asked to show the tenancy document for the loss if any. The Prosecution could not satisfy the query satisfactorily. The court also asked where is the loss to the exchequer.

The APP replied that there was no rent agreement whereas the property can not be rented out without a rent agreement. The accused and his men rented out many properties without a rent agreement. The CEO had allegedly said the document was with the accused, AAP submitted.

At this point, Rahul Mehra rebutted that the accused was in their custody for 10 days. Still, the agency was able to recover the documents. The agency should go after the CEO if he is not providing the document.

Earlier, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) had said that money was sent to Dubai and other money transactions need to be investigated. It was also alleged that an MCD school in Fatehpuri masjid was converted to shops and they were rented out at lesser rent. This caused a loss to the board.

The APP also referred to an incident of alleged misbehaving by the accused with the former CEO during a meeting. He said the accused misbehaved with him. He did not allow the videography of the meeting. Everything was being done only by the accused and his people on the board.

He also referred to the statement of a woman employee of the board who said that files related to the digitalisation program WAMSI were got removed so that it could not take place. (ANI)

Stubble Burning Bhagwant

Jyotiraditya: Will Probe Bhagwant Mann Deplaning Incident

After a row over Punjab chief minister Bhagwant allegedly being deplaned on a Delhi-bound flight from Germany allegedly because he was inebriated, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said he will investigate the matter and has sought a detailed report from Lufthansa Airlines.

On Monday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal levelled serious allegations against Mann and asked him to clarify media reports of him being deplaned from a flight from Frankurt to Delhi on Sunday as he was “too drunk to walk” leading to a 4-hour delay in the flight.
Scindia on Tuesday said that he will investigate the matter based on the requests made to him.

“This was an incident on international soil, will have to make sure to verify the details and facts. It’s up to Lufthansa airlines to provide that data,” Scindia said.

India’s aviation ministry received details about Mann’s last-minute skipping of his Lufthansa Airways flight and on the basis of the details, the ministry decided to seek a report in detail from Lufthansa.

“Based on a request which has been sent to me… I will certainly look into the matter,” Scindia told mediapersons.

The Punjab chief minister was on a visit to Germany from September 11-18 to attract investments and strategic alliances in various sectors. Notably, Mann returned from his eight-day trip from Germany on Monday.

Lufthansa Airlines had, meanwhile, on Monday issued clarification regarding the 4-hour delay of its Delhi-Frankfurt flight.

According to Lufthansa News, Frankfurt to Delhi flight departed later than its scheduled time due to a delayed inbound flight and an aircraft change. “Our flight from Frankfurt to Delhi departed later than originally planned due to a delayed inbound flight and an aircraft change,” Lufthansa News tweeted replying to a user asking about the delay in the flight.

In another tweet by a user asking whether CM Bhagwant Mann was “drunk”, Lufthansa News tweeted that it can’t provide information regarding individual passengers due to data protection reasons. “For data protection reasons we do not provide any information regarding individual passengers,” Lufthansa News said in another tweet.

SAD’s Badal said: “Disturbing media reports quoting co-passengers say Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was deplaned from a Lufthansa flight as he was too drunk to walk. And it led to a 4-hour flight delay. He missed AAP’s national convention. These reports have embarrassed and shamed Punjabis all over the globe.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also dismissed the Badal’s charge that Mann was deplaned from the flight because he was inebriated and said that the Opposition doesn’t have issues to talk about and the Punjab Chief Minister had health problems.

Responding to the allegations, AAP leaders Kuldeep Dhaliwal and Meet Hayer held a joint press conference and said, “Anyone can have health issues. The Opposition does not have any issues to talk about. That is why they are highlighting this issue which is meaningless and fake.

“Earlier, Badal slammed the Punjab government over their silence on the issue and sought clarifications on the incident. He also asked AAP leaders, including party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to come clean on the issue. “Shockingly, the Punjab government is mum over these reports involving their CM Bhagwant Mann. Arvind Kejriwal needs to come clean on this issue. The government of India must step into this, as it involves Punjabi and national pride. If he was deplaned, the government of India must raise the issue with its German counterpart,” he added.

Previously on August 31, a delegation, including SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and demanded a CBI inquiry into the state excise policy alleging a scam in the policy. “There has been a scam in Punjab Excise Policy just like it happened in Delhi. Just like the Delhi LG has ordered an inquiry into the Excise Policy case, we demand a CBI inquiry along the same lines in Punjab,” said Badal. (ANI)

Kejriwal

Kejriwal Greeted With Modi-Modi Chants In Gujarat

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was greeted with chants of “Modi-Modi” as he arrived at the Vadodara airport in Gujarat.

Later, the chants of “Kejriwal-Kejriwal” were also heard.
Kejriwal is on a day-long visit to the poll-bound state of Gujarat where he will address a town hall meeting in Vadodara.

Kejriwal, on being confronted with the chants of his political opponent and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, could be seen smiling while moving towards the mediapersons.

However, he did not speak at the spot and said he would interact at the press conference.

Reacting to the incident, BJP’s Priti Gandhi tweeted, “Arvind Kejriwal being accorded a warm welcome in Modi’s Gujarat!!”

The AAP is looking to set foot in Gujarat where the party could not open its account in the previous Assembly elections. After a massive victory in Punjab, the party is looking to spread its wings to other parts of the country.

In his attempt to reach out to the people of Gujarat, Kejriwal has paid multiple visits to the state leaving no stone unturned in hitting out at the BJP’s 27-year rule and lauding the Delhi model promising to implement the same if the party comes to power.

Kejriwal has promised the people of the state a slew of “guarantees” which he claims will be fulfilled.

Earlier on September 13, during his visit to Ahmedabad, the AAP leader had alleged that the BJP is trying to make Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi as the “Prime Minister through the backdoor” and “successor” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kejriwal was responding to a question about BJP leaders stating that social activist Medha Patkar would be AAP’s chief ministerial candidate in the Gujarat assembly polls.

“I have heard that BJP will make Sonia Gandhi as the PM candidate after PM Modi. Ask them what they have to say on this. Ask them that Kejriwal has alleged that you are going to make Sonia Gandhi PM candidate and the successor to PM Modi at the national level. What do they have to say on this? The BJP is trying to make Sonia Gandhi the PM of the country through the backdoor. Ask them this question,” Kejriwal had said.

Kejriwal alleged that the BJP “has not done anything” for the development of Gujarat and claimed it has “no programme for the next five years”.

Kejriwal also claimed that the Congress party is “finished” in Gujarat. “Congress is finished. You should stop taking their questions. People no more care about their questions,” Kejriwal said in response to a query. (ANI)
