Delhi Wakes Up To ‘Poor’ Air Quality, Smog On Diwali Eve

A day before Diwali, the Delhiites woke up under a blanket of smoggy sky as the air quality remained in the “poor” category with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 266.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the AQI index in the overall Delhi region was in the ‘poor’ category at 266, ‘very poor’ category in the Delhi University area at 329, ‘poor’ quality in Mathura Road and Lodhi Road at 293 and 218 respectively on Sunday morning.

The levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 were recorded at 110 in the ‘poor’ and 237 in the ‘moderate’ category respectively.

Meanwhile, Noida’s overall air quality also stood in the ‘very poor’ category with the AQI at 311. However, the air quality in Gurugram stood in the ‘moderate’ category with an AQI of 139.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

SAFAR also advised the sensitive groups to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion and to take more breaks and do less intense activities.

“Asthmatics, keep medicine ready if symptoms of coughing or shortness of breath occur. Heart patients, see a doctor if get palpitations, shortness of breath, or unusual fatigue,” it said in its advisory.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has banned the production, storage, sale, and bursting of crackers this year as well as fines and jail terms in case of violation.

In a bid to reduce vehicular pollution, the Delhi Government also announced the ‘Red Light On Gaadi Off’ campaign.

Under the campaign, public representatives and officials will motivate commuters to turn their vehicles off at red lights in a bid to curb vehicular pollution.

The air quality in the national capital is also affected because of stubble burning in surrounding Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the winter.

As Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) continue to breathe toxic air, the Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute Dr. Ashok Seth said that the pollution not only damages the lungs but it also affects our hearts.

“While pollution has only been linked to lung problems as asthma gets worsens, people often ignored the proven fact that air pollution leads to increased heart damage and we should not ignore this.”

“In fact, as we have been seeing the increase in heart disease in young people in the last few years, I believe that it is caused by air pollution that has got worse over the last 20 years as well as their lifestyles. For the last 20 years, this has been recognized by all authoritative scientific bodies of cardiology,” Dr. Seth said.

Dr. Seth explained how air pollution causes inflammation in the arteries of the heart and damages the heart. (ANI)

They Want To Make Delhi AAP-Nirbhar: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that his party is dedicated to making the national capital “Aatmanirbhar”.

“Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal gives press statements every day and publishes big advertisements. He thinks that press interviews will bring development and that people can be misled by publishing ads. AAP wants to make Delhi ‘AAPnirbhar’ while we want to make Delhi Aatmanirbhar,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said after inaugurating the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Tehkhand waste-to-energy plant at Tughlakabad.
Shah in his address said that this plant can manage to process about 2,000 metric tonnes of garbage waste every day besides producing 25 megawatts of green energy.

“This plant will manage about 2000MT of garbage per day and produce 25 MW of green energy. This is a multi-dimensional, multi-purpose plant,” he said.

He further said that they will give reply to CM Kejriwal’s behavior with MCDs in a “democratic manner”.

“We will give a reply to Arvind Kejriwal’s behavior with MCDs in a democratic manner,” Shah said adding that he believed that they would establish daily waste processing facilities in Delhi by 2025 with the help of MCD.

“In future, such heaps and mountains of garbage won’t be seen,” he added.

Amit Shah further said, “People of Delhi need to decide if they like the politics of ‘Vigyapan’ (advertisement) or politics of ‘Vikas’ (development). People should also decide if they like ‘prachaar’ (campaign) politics or ‘parivartan’ (change) politics.” (ANI)

Bhagat Singh's Relative Slams

Bhagat Singh’s Relative Slams Kejriwal For comparing Sisodia With Freedom Fighter

Slamming Arvind Kejriwal for comparing his deputy Manish Sisodia and minister Satyendar Jain with Bhagat Singh, a close relative of the freedom fighter, Harbhajan Singh Dhath, on Monday asked the Delhi Chief Minister to “fight his fights politically”.

Dhath also asked Kejriwal to refrain from “equating” criminals with freedom fighters and suggested that he “concentrate” on the “miserable” condition of Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party was voted to power earlier this year with a thumping majority.
Kejriwal on Sunday had equated Sisodia who is facing a probe in the alleged excise policy case, and jailed minister Jain, with Bhagat Singh. “Jail bars and hanging noose could not deter Bhagat Singh’s resolute intentions. This is the second fight for freedom. Manish and Satyendar are today’s, Bhagat Singh. After 75 years, the country got an education minister who gave good education to the poor and gave hope for a bright future,” he had tweeted.

Speaking to ANI, the relative of the freedom fighter lambasted the Delhi Chief Minister and asked “what political mileage did he want from it?”

“Why are criminals caught in corruption cases being compared with martyrs? What political mileage did he want from it? Whatever your fight, fight it politically. Do not equate them with the martyrs. It is not only about Bhagat Singh but also do not equate anybody with other freedom fighters,” Dhath said.

“It was never his (Bhagat Singh’s) mission to be elected to power or else he could have survived and would not have been hanged… They should concentrate on the condition Punjab is in today,” he added.

The freedom fighter’s relative asked Kejriwal to follow Bhagat Singh’s vision but not “equate anybody” with him.

“There could not be a more shameful thing than comparing Satyendar Jain with Bhagat Singh. He is lodged in jail for months and the court is denying him bail. And you compare him with Bhagat Singh. We do not have any problem if you follow his vision, but do not equate anybody with Bhagat Singh,” Dhath said.

Calling the condition of Punjab “miserable”, he said that the people who voted them to power can also remove them from the top position.

“People have brought you to power (in Punjab), but if they can bring you to power, they also know how to remove you. The condition of Punjab is miserable. It was unimaginable to think that you would do such a thing to Punjab after coming to power,” he said.

“We have seen it earlier also that they took his name before the elections. I want to ask Kejriwal why did you need it? People know Bhagat Singh, he does not need recognition from the political parties. People respect him across the country and consider him an idol,” Dhath added.

Kejriwal’s remarks had come after his deputy Manish Sisodia was issued summon by the CBI in the excise policy case, in which Sisodia is one of the accused. (ANI)

Gujarat Election

‘AAP Has Created Panic in Rank And File of Gujarat BJP’

Basant Rawat, a senior and independent journalist in Ahmedabad, explains what makes Aam Aadmi Party a serious challenger to the well-entrenched BJP in Gujarat

The prospect of AAP in the assembly elections in Gujarat is bright. Amidst all-around despondency, AAP has come to symbolise hope in this ‘hopeless state’ — also known as the Hindutva laboratory of India. The BJP has ruled the state for nearly three decades now. However, it is no longer invincible, or, unstoppable, thanks to the steady rise of AAP. It seems to be a kind of ‘new liberation movement’ – a liberal, democratic movement, symbolising common people’s aspirations, amounting to a peaceful uprising against the hegemony of the BJP.

Even if the BJP manages to emerge as the single largest party, it might not be able to form the government with the distinct possibility of a hung assembly looming large. In the home state of Narendra Modi, AAP has created panic in the rank-and-file of a jittery BJP. Armed with its unique killer instinct, AAP is positioning itself as a winner. Until recently, both Congress and BJP dismissed it as a non-existent force. No more. The reason: both parties seem to have realised its aggressive and lethal power.

The way AAP conducts its poll campaign — it is a sheer delight. It has thrown its rival’s political calculations out of gear, emerging as the new centre of political gravity, occupying the mind space of every discerning person, dislodging Modi from that position, who, until recently, continued to mesmerise gullible Gujarati supporters – largely, not known for rational, critical thinking.

ALSO READ: ‘AAP Is Trying To Beat BJP At Its Own Game’

Now, Modi has a challenger in his home turf in Arvind Kejriwal who is asking tough questions, grilling him on his brand of politics every time he visits Gujarat. Visibly, BJP appears to be on the back-foot. This has never happened in the past so early in the campaign.

As for the theory that AAP is working as a ‘B-Team’ of BJP, and will cut into Congress votes, I would say, yes and no. This ‘B-Team’ description is unfounded and meaningless. The ‘BJP moles’ in AAP have already switched sides and have rejoined the BJP. Everybody in Gujarat knows who they were and where they are today.

AAP is a new political creature, still unfolding. The RSS-BJP might have tacitly nurtured it, penetrated it, and backed it in the Anna Hazare movement, but, now, it has become a Frankenstein for them — hence the BJP is scared.

What is disconcerting for the BJP is its ‘populist brand of politics’ – it has become such a tricky situation for the BJP that it does not know how to deal with it!  AAP has converted the campaign into ‘poor versus rich’ — Modi representing the rich and AAP as the underdog.

AAP seems an amalgam of progressive, liberal ideology – a ‘welfarist’ party inclined towards the poor and middle class — an inclusive party. For some reason, in Gujarat, everybody can relate to it and identify with its core belief, which is different from that of Congress and BJP. Undoubtedly, AAP will damage both Congress and BJP. In the eventuality of a hung assembly, it seems that AAP will not align with BJP. It may go with the Congress if such a situation arises.

Free electricity is AAP’s magical poll plank which has worked. The unique style of its campaign and the offer of ‘revdi’ (freebies), have created ripples. It is not for nothing that the BJP has pushed the panic button. Small-scale entrepreneurs/traders etc, deeply unhappy with the new tax regime (GST), reeling under the terrible impact of demonetisation – seem to have made up their minds, to go with AAP, and get rid of what Kejriwal calls the ‘raid raj’. Small-scale entrepreneurs have been thronging Kejriwal’s ‘town hall’ meetings. AAP is being seen by the poor, contractual workers and employees of the Gujarat government, as the only sign of hope; it seems they want to try Kejriwal this time around. This means it has already created a committed vote bank. Surely, the BJP has every reason to be worried.

It is true, that despite the solid work they have done in education, health, electricity and water, etc, in Delhi, AAP also speaks the BJP language, seeking to usurp its constituency. It’s regressive position on the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir and the military clampdown, its dubious position on the peaceful Shaheen Bagh protests, its overt inaction on the sinister communal violence unleashed during the Delhi riots, its silence on the imprisonment of political prisoners, including excellent scholars from JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia, AMU, etc, have cast a shadow over its ‘welfarist ideology’. However, I still believe that it is not an abjectly communal party. Call it sheer pragmatism and opportunism — but AAP thinks it can defeat BJP on its ‘own’ Hindutva pitch. The AAP leadership in Gujarat is young, educated, and bubbling with energy. They know how to outplay BJP in its own game. It is the only party which can speak its language and defeat it.

CBI Summons Sisodia

CBI Summons Sisodia, AAP Claims He Will Be Arrested

In the wake of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoning Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia for questioning in the alleged excise policy corruption case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday claimed that Sisodia “will be arrested tomorrow”.

He also tried to draw parallels between the CBI summoning Sisodia with the upcoming Gujarat elections.
According to Bhardwaj, the Bharatiya Janata Party is scared of AAP in Gujarat as it is competing with them.

“CBI has summoned Manish Sisodia and will arrest him tomorrow. It has been alleged that a huge scam of Rs 10,000 crore has taken place and for that CBI and ED (Enforcement Directorate) have raided at atleast 500 places so far. CBI raided Sisodia’s residence for 14 hours, but they could not find anything,” said AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj.

“This is directly linked with Gujarat elections as AAP competes with the BJP there and hence is scared. Manish Sisodia will be arrested to stop his programmes but the AAP will only grow stronger,” he added.

Bhardwaj further mentioned that he is confident about Sisodia’s arrest because the same drill has it happened earlier when AAP leaders were called for questioning and then arrested.

While exuding confidence in AAP’s victory in Gujarat, the AAP senior leader said that the party will emerge “stronger” with the “increasing” numbers of arrests.

“We would have remained silent if we were afraid. The rise in the number of arrests will raise our graph in Gujarat, the increase in BJP’s oppression will make our graph rise,” he said.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was summoned by CBI today and he shall go to the central agency’s headquarters on Monday, he confirmed with his tweet.

“I will go and fully cooperate with the CBI as it has called me to the headquarters at 11 am tomorrow after raiding my house for 14 hours and searching bank account and even my village where they could not find anything,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

In August, the enforcement agencies conducted searches on Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s official residence among several other places in connection with the alleged corruption in the implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.

Sisodia, who is in charge of the excise department, has been under the scanner for alleged deliberate and gross procedural lapses which provided undue benefits to the tender process for liquor licensees for the year 2021-22.

Sisodia is believed to have executed decisions in violation of the statutory provisions of the Excise Policy, which could have huge financial implications. Such “undue financial favours” to the liquor licensees after the deadline for awarding tenders caused huge losses to the exchequer, sources earlier claimed.

The excise policy was passed in chief minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet in the middle of the deadly Delta Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

Sisodia was among 15 others booked in an FIR filed by the CBI in August including then Excise Commissioner Arva Gopi Krishna, Deputy Commissioner Anand Tiwari and Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Bhatnagar.

Other accused are Manoj Rai, a former employee of Pernod Ricard; Amandeep Dhal, director of Brindco Sales; director of Buddy Retail Amit Arora, and Dinesh Arora; authorised signatories of Mahadev Liquors Sunny Marwah, Arun Ramchandra Pillai and Arjun Pandey.

The ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Excise Policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection.

As alleged, the Excise Department had decided to refund the Earnest Money Deposit of about Rs 30 crore to a successful tenderer against the set rules. Even though there was no enabling provision, a waiver on tendered licence fees was allowed from December 28, 2021, to January 27, 2022, due to COVID-19.

This allegedly caused a loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer, said the FIR, which has been instituted on a reference from the Union Home Ministry following a recommendation from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. (ANI)

AAP Releases List Of 12 More Candidates For Gujarat Polls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced the names of 12 more candidates for the upcoming 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections.

This is AAP’s fifth list of candidates.

The party fielded Rajesh Pandoriya from Bhuj, Jayantibhai Parnami from Idar, and Ashok Gajera from Nikol constituency. Jaswant Thakor has been given the ticket from Sabarmati while Sanjay Bhatasna got the ticket from Tankara. Further, Valjibhai Makwana, Ravjibhai Somabhai Vaghela, and Udeysinh Chauhan are fielded from Kodina, Mahudha, and Balasinor constituencies respectively.

Banabhai Damor has been fielded from Morva Hadaf and Anil Garasiya from Jhalod. In the Dediapada constituency, AAP fielded Chaitar Vasava. Bipin Choudhary is the AAP candidate from Vyara.

AAP has announced the names of 53 candidates so far for the Gujarat polls.

The 182-seated Gujarat Assembly will go to polls later this year.

BJP has been in power in Gujarat for the last 24 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was the Chief Minister for 12 years, 227 days. Before him, Keshubhai Patel was the CM of the state for 216 days. Modi was followed by Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani, and the current CM Bhupendra Patel.

Unlike previous elections, this year Aam Aadmi Party is also fighting the election with full might, led by Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National convener Arvind Kejriwal, which has made it a triangular contest.

The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18, 2023. (ANI)

Gujarati poet and filmmaker

AAP is Trying to Beat BJP at Their Own Game in Gujarat

Mehul Devkala, a Gujarati poet andaward-winning filmmaker, says Aam Aadmi Party is following a strategy which is very similar to one of BJP

Electoral politics in Gujarat has traditionally been a two-party affair. This is the first time that three political parties are in the contest. One cannot deny a strong anti-incumbency factor because the state has been a BJP laboratory for 27 years.

If you look at AAP’s campaign strategy, they are working professionally. Their agenda is consistently changing according to the region; ideology does not matter to them. For example, in the Bilkis Bano case, the AAP kept silent for the fear of hurting a section of voters. They have followed a strategy which is on the same lines as the BJP.

Last year, winning 27 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation helped in creating a positive perception of AAP, whereas Congress did not fare well. If you visit Gandhinagar now, you will see all sorts of government employees protesting against the state government on various issues for the last one month or more. The old pension scheme is one of those issues that they are demanding. When people asked AAP’s stand on this, they first said they will think over it.  But when the Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh governments implemented it, AAP announced the same in Punjab.

ALSO READ: ‘If AAP Fails To Deliver, Punjab Will Never Forgive It’

So, I see this election as a contest between three models: the Gujarat model of BJP, the Delhi model of AAP, and the Rajasthan model of Congress. Rajasthan is a border state and its CM Ashok Gehlot is the Congress observer for assembly polls. Newspapers here are printing full-page advertisements of Rajasthan Government schemes almost daily.

AAP is shaping its strategy in response to these two models. For example, AAP is distributing employment guarantee cards to people – a token against their pre-poll promise on the question of unemployment – if they come to power. Arvind Kejriwal is visiting the homes of Dalits and rickshaw-pullers on the same lines as Modi-Shah duo has done routinely. This is essentially a marketing gimmick, but it is hurting Congress’s fortunes.

Right now, AAP is a regional party. But if it wins in Gujarat it will become a national party. There is a tendency among voters to give a new party a chance and Kejriwal’s poll slogan serves that appeal. That is why the clarion call: Ek mauko Kejriwal ne. There are two local faces representing Kejriwal – Gopal Italia and Isudan Gadhvi. Gadhvi has been a journalist who has consistently raised people’s issues, so people have faith in his words. Gopal has been a leader of the Patidar reservation agitation and is now the Convener of Gujarat AAP.

AAP is building a narrative that the last 27 years in the state have seen a friendly fight between Congress and BJP. It is making forays in rural areas too. So its effect is not just limited to urban constituencies. Then there is also Owaisi’s AIMIM contesting in cities.

Those seats where the winning margin of BJP in the last assembly election was less than five thousand, if Muslim and anti-incumbency votes get divided into AIMIM and AAP, then it will harm Congress. BJP may lose some seats too.

Congress has some hopes in the Rajasthan-bordering tribal areas with a strong BTP presence, the tribal party run by popular leader Chhotubhai Vasava. AAP had organised a joint rally with Vasava back in April and was trying to build its base there. Recently that relationship became sour. Vasava alleged that AAP was trying to break his party. After that Congress leader Pawan Khera went there and met Vasava. Now it seems BTP has returned to the Congress fold.

People in Gujarat are not as politically aware as in UP or Bihar. They are largely a business community which have little interest in political analysis. People like us may delve into ideological narratives but this neither matters to AAP nor Gujarati voters. These factors would ensure that anti-incumbency votes will get divided. If AAP had not been there, this election may have been a sure-shot win for the Congress.

Delhi Festival Season After 2-year Gap

Delhi: Sales See Rise In Festival Season After 2-year Gap

With the festive season inching closer and COVID restrictions in abeyance, sales saw a rise as markets in the national capital opened fully after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.

A crowd of people can be seen on the streets of the national capital, especially in markets for shopping for the upcoming festive season which includes festivals like Diwali. Dussehra was celebrated recently.

Chandni Chowk in Delhi is once again a witness to shopkeepers opening their shops without any restrictions and the customers thronging their shops in large numbers to get new clothes.

Expressing their ecstasy over the full-fledged business after a long time, the shopkeepers said that their sales have been boosted by nearly 200 percent compared to during the pandemic.

Speaking to ANI, a local shopkeeper said, “Business is going well with festivals around. Rush increased, sales boosted by almost 200 percent as compared to the pandemic.”

Some of the shopkeepers and wholesalers said that their business is doing well with the regular arrival of customers these days at the shop.

“During the festive season, our business ran very well. Our business was boosted by 200 percent from the pandemic. All going well nowadays. Customers come regularly but a few of them only do bargaining and go. We don’t know the reason. Despite all of that, our sales increased after the pandemic because the number of buyers in the market has increased,” said a shopkeeper.

A customer from Jabalpur said that she was happy with the reopening of markets and had come all the way to Delhi for shopping.

“I heard about Chandi Chowk and today I saw the reason why. I purchased a Lehenga here. The quality is very good. The same quality and brand, if I had purchased from some other place, it would cost nearly Rs 2 lakh, but we purchased it here for only Rs 30,000,” she said.

Another first-time visitor who came from West Bengal’s Murshidabad said that the items are cheap in the market and their quality is satisfactory. (ANI)

Question AAP Leader Rajendra Pal

Delhi police To Question AAP Leader Rajendra Pal Gautam Today

The Delhi Police on Tuesday reached the residence of the former minister in the national capital Rajendra Pal Gautam, days after a video went viral where he was allegedly seen converting a large gathering of people to Buddhism.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader has been asked to appear before the police at 2 pm today.
According to the officials, a police team went to Gautam’s house on Monday, where he was questioned in the matter.

A senior police officer on Monday said that Gautam has been asked to appear so that he can be questioned to ascertain the sequence of incidents and verify facts related to the gathering and their conversion to Buddhism.

However, on Friday, Gautam termed this as false propaganda. He also told reporters that the vows taken at the event to “not worship Hindu gods and goddesses were originally taken by BR Ambedkar in 1956.

The same evening (Friday) Gautam accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading false narratives against him and alleged that only a portion of his speech was being circulated in social media by the BJP.

Notably, Gautam resigned as AAP minister on Sunday following a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other senior party leaders.

Taking to Twitter, Gautam announced his resignation, typed on his letterhead, on Sunday and said, “Today I have been freed from many shackles, and been born again. Now I will continue to fight for rights and atrocities on the society more firmly without any restrictions.”

However, the letter was not addressed to anyone in particular.

The AAP leader in his letter wrote that the BJP has been targeting several sections of society for political gains, and he cannot be a mute spectator to that. However, he does not want his actions to cause any inconvenience to the party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In the purported viral video, Gautam was seen along with hundreds of people taking an oath. Purportedly, the person on the microphone leads the oath with,” ‘We will not believe in Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Gauri-Ganesh as Gods and will never pray to them. I will not consider Ram and Krishna as Gods and will never… I will not pray to Gauri Ganpati etc or any other Hindu religious Gods and goddesses”.

This video of organizing the ‘Ghar Wapsi in Buddhism’ program in Delhi on October 5 under the banner of ‘Mission Jai Bhim’ was shared on Rajendra Pal Gautam’s Facebook page.

The AAP minister also claimed that the same oath was taken by Babasaheb Ambedkar, when he converted to Buddhism and said, “We have repeated the same pledge. On October 14, 1956, when Baba Saheb adopted Buddhism, he made 22 vows, which we have also taken in the oath. Watch the full video, BJP is running it by truncating it for its own benefit. BJP will do anything but make its vote clear.” (ANI)

Was Sent On Earth To Finish Off ‘Kansa’ Descendants: Kejriwal In Gujarat

Apparently targeting the ruling dispensation in poll-bound Gujarat and reacting to the posters that surfaced calling him “anti-Hindu”, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said that he was born on Krishna Janmashtami and God sent him with a special task to finish off “descendants” of Kansa.

He alleged that the posters and banners have used insulting words for God adding that the people of Gujarat will not spare those who have used such words.

“The people put the poster have used insulting words for God. They have insulted God. They hate me so much that they have not even spared God in the poster. I want to ask the people of Gujarat if they are going to spare those who have used such words. These people are the children of Kansa, who are insulting God,” said Kejriwal while addressing in Vadodara.

He further called himself a religious person and an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman.

“I was born on Krishna Janmashtami and God has sent me with a special task to finish off the descendants of Kansa, the corrupts and goons,” said Kejriwal.

Trying to put an end to the controversy over alleged “anti-Hindu” statements by AAP’s Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam in Delhi.

Gautam converted to Buddhism in a religious conversion event in which he allegedly denounced Hindu deities.

He further said that they (AAP) all will fulfill this task given by God.

“We will work together to fulfill God’s desire. God is with me. People are with me. People want a change, which is why they are so freaked out,” he said.

The Delhi Chief Minister also chanted “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Shri Krishna” slogans during his road show along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Earlier in the day, banners and posters calling Arvind Kejriwal “anti-Hindu” and showing him wearing a skull appeared in several cities of Gujarat.

AAP made its debut in Gujarat in the 2017 Assembly polls, but could not open its account.

AAP’s hopes in Gujarat have been fuelled by its performance in the February 2021 Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) polls in which BJP won 93 seats, while Aam Aadmi Party bagged 27 seats and the Congress drew a blank.

Meanwhile, in the 2017 Assembly elections, Congress had given a scare to the ruling BJP by restricting its MLAs to 99 and winning 77 seats on its own. There are 182 assembly seats in Gujarat.

Notably, the party has been constantly making efforts to replace the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Gujarat. (ANI)
