Diya Kumari

Diya Kumari, Bairwa To Be New Deputy CMs Of Rajasthan

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday selected Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari as the new Deputy Chief Ministers of Rajasthan.

Prem Chand Bairwa is the sitting BJP MLA from the Dudu constituency in Rajasthan. Bairwa won the seat in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly Election by defeating Congress candidate Babulal Nagar with a margin of 35,743 votes.

Diya Kumari won from the Vidyadhar Nagar constituency against Congress’ Sitaram Agarwal with a margin of 71368 votes.

She is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruling maharaja of the princely state of Jaipur. Her appeal for votes was made as a “daughter of Jaipur” and the “princess who walks on the streets”.

Since joining the BJP in 2013, Diya Kumari has won the two elections she contested. She became an elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan from the Sawai Madhopur constituency in 2013. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she was elected as an MP from Rajsamand.

Meanwhile, MLA Vasudev Devnani will be the Speaker. He hails from Ajmer and has previously served as the state Education Minister.

Bhajan Lal Sharma’s name as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan was announced by BJP’s Vasundhara Raje, whose name was also among the contenders for the top post.

He won the Sanganer assembly seat with an impressive margin, securing 145,162 votes against his Indian National Congress (INC) opponent, Pushpendra Bhardwaj, who polled 97,081 votes.

In Rajasthan, the vote count painted a starkly different picture from what some of the pollsters had predicted, with the BJP poised to form the government, winning 115 seats, and the Congress trailing at 69 seats.

Rajasthan went to the polls for 199 of the 200 assembly seats on November 25. The majority mark in the state is 100. (ANI)

Mahua Moitra

Moitra’s Conduct Was Unethical, Says Ethics Panel Member Aparajita

Following the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha in a ‘cash for query’ case, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Ethics Committee member Aparajita Sarangi on Friday said that Moitra’s conduct was “unethical” and it should be condemned.

Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after a discussion on the report of the Ethics Committee in the ‘cash for query’ that was tabled in the Lower House today.

“I am also a woman, I want to say that whether woman or man, we all are MPs…as per the system, both women and men MPs need to work…Mahua Moitra has done unethical conduct, so it should be condemned. If opposition is standing with her then they are supporting a wrong thing,” Aparajita Sarangi said on Friday.

She further said that the explusion of TMC MP is a lesson to all MPs, when we become MPs, we take an oath, we’re supposed to follow certain rules.

“This is a lesson to all MPs, when we become MPs, we take an oath, we’re supposed to follow certain rules…the whole country is watching us…In Mahua Moitra’s case, immorality was visible…this is the reason why she was expelled from Lok Sabha,” Sarangi added.

The expelled Lok Sabha MP alleged that she has been found guilty of breaching a code of ethics that ‘does not exist’.

Following her expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha as a Trinamool Congress MP in a ‘cash for query’ case, TMC leader Mahua Moitra on Friday said that the Ethics Committee probing the matter is another “weapon to crush opposition into submission” and that the panel has broken every rule in the book.

Soon after her expulsion, she read her statement on Parliament premises and said, “This LS has also seen the weaponisation of the Parliamentary committee. Ironically the Ethics Committee which was set up to serve as a moral compass for members, instead it has been abused egregiously today to do exactly what it was never meant to do, which is to bulldoze the opposition and become another weapon to ‘thok do’ (crush) us into submission.”

“This committee and this report have broken every rule in the book. In essence you are finding me guilty of breaching a code of ethics that does not exist,” Moitra said, adding that the committee is punishing her for engaging in a practice that is routine, accepted and encouraged in the House.

Moitra further alleged that the findings are solely based on the written testimonies of two private citizens whose versions contradict each other in material terms and her right to cross examine them was snatched.

“None of whom I was allowed to cross-examine. One of the two private citizens is my estranged partner, who with malafide intention, masqueraded as a common citizen in front of the committe. The two testimonies have been used to hang me there at polar opposites to each other,” she said.

“The complainant says (that) I accepted cash in consideration for my businessman to ask questions in furtherance of his commercial interests. But the businessman’s suo motu affidavit, says I pressurised him into uploading questions to further my agenda. The two are at pole of opposites,” she clarified on the issue.

The Ethics Committee report probing ‘Unethical Conduct’ of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP had recommended that Moitra “may be expelled” from the Lok Sabha and called for an “intense, legal, institutional inquiry” by the central government in a “time-bound manner”.

“The serious misdemeanours on the part of Mahua Moitra calls for severe punishment. The Committee, therefore, recommend that Mahua Moitra, MP may be expelled from the Membership of the Seventeenth Lok Sabha,” the report read.

Speaker Om Birla said, “…This House accepts the conclusions of the Committee that MP Mahua Moitra’s conduct was immoral and indecent as an MP. So, it is not appropriate for her to continue as an MP…”

The House was then adjourned till December 11.

The opposition MPs immediately staged a walkout after the Lok Sabha adopted the motion to expel Mahua Moitra as TMC Member of Parliament. (ANI)

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

BJP Issues Three-Line Whip For All Its MPs To Be Present In LS Tomorrow

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday issued a three-line whip to all its MPs of Lok Sabha to be present in the House on Friday to discuss legislative business.

“BJP issues a line whip to all its MPs of Lok Sabha to be present in the house on December 8, 2023 as some very important legislative business will be taken up for discussion and to support the government’s stand,” BJP official release stated.

Earlier today, citing the huge losses faced by the airlines due to the impact of Coronavirus on the aviation sector, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Lok Sabha said that even in that scenario airlines have operated on a sustainable model.

Replying to the question raised by IUML MP ET Mohammed Basheer, on the issue of air fare hikes and whether the government has any control over it, Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “Civil aviation is a seasonal sector. You have a high season and you have a low season. From October till mid Jan it’s a high season after that it’s a low season until May, June after when again holiday season starts.”

“This is not limited to India alone this is a global phenomenon, we have monitored fairs, and we have a tariff monitoring unit that looks at 60 routes randomly,” he added.

He further said that airlines have made losses of about Rs 55,000 crores to Rs 1,32,000 crores on an annual basis recently.

He further informed the Lower House that there is a decline in fares across most routes for months of January to October in the year 2022 and the same trend was witnessed from January to October 2023.

On the question raised by the Revolutionary Socialist Party NK Premachandran on who is the authority for regulatory mechanism, Scindia said, “Civil aviation is a Deregulated sector. It was deregulated in the year 1993. We do have a Tariff Monitoring Unit that monitors 60 routes on a random basis, When we find there is excessive pricing we convey that to airlines,” he said.

The winter session of the Parliament began on December 4 and will culminate on December 22. (ANI)

Muslim community Telangana

Will Do Away With 4% Reservation For Muslims : Shah In Telangana

Ahead of the Telangana polls that are scheduled to take place on November 30, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be doing away with the four per cent reservation of the Muslim community and will distribute it among the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes.

“We will do away with the four per cent reservation for Muslims and we will give those to SCs. OBCs, and STs,” Amit Shah said while campaigning at Telangana’s Jagtial on Monday.

Shah also announced reservations for the Madiga community in Telangana under the SC category.

“We have decided that the Madiga community will get vertical quota in reservation under the SC category,” he said.

Shah charged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, does not celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day fearing All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

“Should we not celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day to remember our liberation from the Razakars? Fearing Owaisi, KCR does not celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day. But we do not fear Owaisi. We will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day as a State day in Telangana once we form the government here,” the Union Minister said.

Continuing his attack on both KCR and Owaisi, Shah said, “Their election symbol is a car. But its steering is neither with KCR nor KTR nor Kavitha, it is with Owaisi. Can Telangana’s car run properly in his hands?”

Attacking the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the AIMIM and the Congress over ‘dynastic politics’, the Union Minister said that all these parties are “2G, 3G and 4G” parties.

“BRS, Majlis and Congress are 2G, 3G and 4G parties. 2G means KCR and KTR. 3G means Owaisi’ grandfather, his father and Owaisi. 4G means Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul. Where is your place in it?” Amit Shah said.

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievement in the central government, Shah said, “PM Modi has taken India’s tiranga aboard the Chandrayaan and taken it to the moon. Modi has built the new Parliament. Modi has organised the G20 summit and raised India’s stature throughout the world. Modi has taken India’s economic size from 11th rank to fifth.”

Attacking the BRS over alleged scams in Telangana, Shah said, “They did Mission Bhagirath scam, Miyapur land scam, Outer Ring Raod scam, Kaleswaram scam, liquor scam, granite mining scam and Mission Kakatiya scam.”

Amit Shah also promised free trips to Ayodhya once the BJP comes to power in the state.

“You are all invited to have a darshan on Ram Lalla at Ayodhya. We will pay for your trip in turns if you vote the BJP to power,” he said adding that both the Congress and the BRS have opposed the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Speaking about the newly constituted Turmeric Board, the Union Minister said, “The Prime Minister has announced the Turmeric Board from here. Now turmeric farmers will get the right price for their produce but we will also form the Rs 200 crore centre for reseach on its medical value.”

“KCR did not form the Turmeric Board despite staying in power for years. The state could have formed this as well,” he added.

Shah also announced the revival of three sugar factories, process maize and form ethanol blending factories in the state, a 500-bed hospital for beedi workers in Nizamabad and an NRI Ministry for NRIs in Telangana.

Telangana will go for Assembly elections on November 30 and counting of votes, along with those of four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.

In the previous Assembly election in 2018, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 88 of the 119 seats, grabbing 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress came a distant second with just 19 seats. (ANI)

Congress Nilesh Carbal

Goa: Ex-Cong Leader Sequeira Takes Oath As Cabinet Min Replacing Carbal

Aleixo Sequeira, former Congress leader who joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last year took oath as Cabinet minister of Goa on Sunday replacing Nilesh Carbal.

Former cabinet minister Nilesh Carbal, in his resignation letter, explained that he decided to step down to uphold the commitment made by senior leaders to Congress members who had joined the BJP. He expressed that senior party leaders requested him to honor the commitment, and thus, he sacrificed his ministerial position for the party’s interests.

Earlier today, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Nilesh Cabral tendered his resignation from the cabinet led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to make way for the induction of Sequeira.

Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira was among the eight ‘turncoat’ MLAs who switched over to the BJP from Congress in September last year.

In a letter dated November 19 to the Office of the Chief Minister, Nilesh Cabral stated that he tendered his resignation on request by the senior members of the party, including the Chief Minister.

“It is with a heavy heart that I resign from the esteemed position of Minister in the departments of PWD, Environment, Legislative Affairs, Law and Judiciary. I thank you for the continuous support and confidence you have entrusted in me,” said Cabral in the letter.

The letter further mentioned, “It is the decision of the party asking me to step down. I have performed as a minister. Some Congress leaders merged into the BJP, there was a commitment by the senior leaders. I was called by the leaders and they requested that to keep the commitment I have to sacrifice. Based on their request, I have resigned.”

He further said that he was immensely grateful for the invaluable opportunities and support provided to him during his tenure serving the people of this beautiful state.

Cabral, while speaking to ANI on his stepping down as minister, said that he resigned “out of compulsion” adding that the party “must have something in mind”.

“It is out of compulsion, where BJP had made a commitment to some Congress MLAs who had merged into the BJP. When senior and tall leaders of the BJP are making the statement I don’t see why I should not listen to it. I am a senior BJP leader, there is no doubt about my seniority. I am sure the party must have something in mind & in the interest of the party they asked me to resign,” he said.

Speaking on Cabral’s resignation from the state cabinet, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Cabral resigned in the party’s interests and the Governor has accepted his resignation.

“We requested PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral to resign in the interest of the party. That’s why he resigned. Governor has accepted Nilesh Cabral’s resignation from the Council of Ministers,” he said.

Cabral, who represents the Curchorem Assembly constituency, also held the portfolios of Law and Judiciary, Environment and Climate Change, and Legislative Affairs. (ANI)

Ravi Shankar Prasad

Don’t Try To Lower Morale Of India’s Security Forces, Ravi Shankar Slams Rahul

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravishankar Prasad hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his remark that China has taken India’s land.

“Do anything, but why do you try to lower the morale of India’s security forces”? the BJP MP asked.

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that Centre’s claim that not an inch of Indian land was taken by China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) troops “is not true”.

Prasad while reacting to the Congress president’s statement has said, “They (Congress) ask for proof of the Balakot & Uri attacks. What can we even expect from them? Today, when Rahul Gandhi talks about Ladakh, I want to ask him if he remembers how much of India’s land was captured by China before and after the 1962 war.”

Rahul Gandhi claimed the locals, too, contend that Indian territory was intruded upon and taken by the Chinese troops, which was a matter of concern.

Speaking to reporters, the Congress leader said, “The locals here are concerned about China taking our land. They have said that the Chinese troops took away their grazing land. However, the PM says not an inch of land was taken away. This is not true, you can ask anyone here,” said Rahul.

Prasad also mentioned former Defence Minister AK Antony over his past speech in the Parliament on China.

“The then Defence Minister AK Antony in the Parliament had said that ‘We don’t want to irritate China by erecting infrastructure’, this is your (Congress party) past,” Prasad added.

Further, highlighting the condition under the Modi government, Prasad said that “Look today, under Modi government roads and bridges from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, are building up helping army vehicles to react fast on different situations.” (ANI)

INDIA Coalition PM Candidate

Indira Gandhi Divided Pak Into Two Parts; You Cannot Even Hunt A Bird: Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Khrage on Sunday took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that they have a habit of twisting the work done by Congress to their advantage and mislead people of the country.

Kharge, while addressing a public rally in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district said that it was only Congress that put everything in place in the country.

Explaining further, Kharge said that BJP only gives reference to the 1962 China war, but forgets that it was Indira Gandhi who divided Pakistan into two parts though they (BJP) are not able to hunt a bird.

“They always talk about 1962, but forget that Indira Gandhi divided Pakistan into two parts and now Bangladesh practices democratic governance. It was Congress’ rule, in which 100000 people of the neighbouring country were arrested and later released. We fought with Pakistan and liberate Bangladesh This is our (Congress) power. You (BJP) cannot even hunt a bird or a rat,” Kharge said.

Kharge was speaking during the party’s ‘Bharose Ka Sammelan’ event in Janjgir-Champa.

This is the second visit of Kharge to the Congress-ruled state after assuming charge as the AICC chief last October. Kharge was felicitated by Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel.

The visit is seen as a launch of Congress’ campaign for the Chhattisgarh assembly polls, due later this year.

Further, sharpening his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge said that the PM made fun of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru instead of speaking on violence-hit Manipur.

“Modi Ji didn’t answer (on Manipur) what Rahul Gandhi or leaders of the INDIA alliance asked him. Instead, he made fun of Nehru ji and Congress leaders. Modi ji keeps saying that he has done everything. Did power, schools etc come to Chhattisgarh after Modi came to power? Modi & Shah studied in government schools established by us. Or did they study in London or Oxford?.. And they ask us what did the Congress party do in the last 70 years? We had only put everything in place,” Kharge added.

He further said that the PM should join a drama company instead of sitting in Parliament.

“They (BJP) compare him (Modi) with Nehruji. He even didn’t contest the elections and became chief minister of Gujarat. When he was elected as the PM of the country, he bowed down to the stairs of the Parliament. He does drama and is so dramatic that I think he should go to the drama company,” Khrage said.

Kharge was speaking in the Janjgir-Champa district from where the Congress, despite a landslide victory, could win only two of the six seats in the 2018 assembly elections. (ANI)
