BJP Seeks Stringent Action Against Rahul Over EVM Remark

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday wrote to the Election Commission (ED) and urged the poll body to take “stringent action” against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his “election can’t be won without EVM” remark.

BJP underlined Rahul Gandhi’s speech at the Ramlila Maidan Maharally in Delhi and claimed that Rahul Gandhi said several things “which are very objectionable.”

“He said ‘This is a fixed match’…He also said that the government has its own people in the EC and the elections can’t be won without EVM…He also said that the rights provided by the Indian Constitution are being snatched away,” Hardeep Singh Puri said while lashing out at the Congress.

“Rahul Gandhi’s address at the rally contained inflammatory remarks aimed at sowing seeds of doubt and distrust in the minds of the Indian populace regarding the electoral process and the impartiality of the Election Commission of India,” they added.

“Take a comprehensive view of the design and patterns of INC misleading campaign and propaganda and its leaders who not only create disaffection amongst the people but habitually and serially commit electoral offences by violating every single covenant of MCC and healthy democratic conventions,” the BJP urged the Election Commission.

The BJP asked the poll body to take effective steps in enforcing and ensuring fair play and adherence to constitutional provisions together with electoral and other statutes, including the MCC.

They further asked the Election Commission to direct Rahul Gandhi to tender an unconditional public apology to the Nation, the Election Commission of India and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for making false allegations and distortions against them.

“Direct the registration of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and Yatindra Siddaramiah under the stringent provisions of law,” they stated in the letter.

Addressing the public at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said, “If the BJP wins these match-fixed elections, and changes the Constitution, the whole country will be on fire. Remember this.”

Rahul Gandhi further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to fix the elections in his favour.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to do match fixing in these elections. Without EVMs, match-fixing, social media, and pressurizing the press, they cannot win more than 180 seats,” Wayanad MP said.

He further said that the Constitution will cease to exist if the BJP registers victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“The day this match fixing becomes successful, our Constitution will cease to exist right there. These are not ordinary elections. These elections are to save the future of India, and the rights of farmers. The whole country knows match fixing is going on,” he said.

Displaying a show of strength at the capital’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, Opposition leaders staged a protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. (ANI)

Modi Takes Veiled Dig At Rahul At Startup Mahakumbh

Though veiled but seemingly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew a parallel between startups and politics.

Addressing the Startup Mahakumbh, one of thhe first large congregation of startups, the Prime Minister said many people try to launch political startups but the difference between them and the original startups is the latter’s thrust for new ideas.

“Many people try to ‘launch’ startups, especially in politics, sometimes multiple times… The difference between you and them is that you’re experimental. You try new ideas after the failure of one launch,” the prime minister said, in his initial remarks.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in 2023 and the latest Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Imphal to Mumbai which culminated this week are seen as a rebranding of the Congress leader and to portray him as the face of the principal Opposition party ahead of the General elections.

Rahul Gandhi is again contesting from his current Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.

The Prime Minister also spoke on the pace of innovation and development saying that India had made the right decisions at the right time.

“Today, the energy & vibe is amazing! Strolling along the stalls and watching your inventions, I could feel the vibe that India’s future holds many Unicorns and Decacorns. For promoting startups, India made the right decisions at the right time” he said.

“Over the past decades, we have seen how India has made huge strides in the software and IT sector. Now, we can see the pace of development of innovation and startup culture in India,” he added.

PM Modi also highlighted the government’s role in creating an effective startup ecosystem.

“India has attempted to bring together startup ecosystems from around the world under Startup-20. In the same Bharat Mandapam, startups were not only included for the first time in the Delhi Declaration of G-20, but were also considered as natural engines of growth” he said.

“India is the world’s 3rd largest startup ecosystem. There are over 1.25 lakh registered startups which generate employment for over 12 lakh people. India has over 110 unicorns… Our startups have registered over 12,000 patents” he added.

Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held in seven phases beginning from April 19 till June 1, and results slated to be release on June 4. A total of 96.8 crore voters will be eligible to cast their vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)

ECI Advises Rahul To Be Cautious In Public Utterances

Amid preparations by various political parties for the Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an advisory to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to be cautious in his public utterances, sources said.

They said ECI has advised the Congress leader to be “more careful and cautious” in his public utterances in future. The Delhi High Court had earlier asked the ECI to take appropriate action against the Congress MP for his speech in November last year in which he used the expression ‘pickpocket’ while attacking BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Election Commission had also issued notice to Rahul Gandhi over his ‘panauti and pickpocket’ jibes at PM Modi.

The sources said that ECI reiterated its advisory of March 1 this year and said it should be followed in right earnest during campaigning. Rahul Gandhi is a star campaigner of the Congress.

“After considering all facts in the matter related to certain remarks against Prime Minister as ‘jaibkatra’ (pickpocket) and ‘pannauti’ including High Court of Delhi order dated December 21, 2023, and Rahul Gandhi’s reply, the Election Commission of India has advised the Congress leader be more careful and cautious in future,” a source said.

The Commission has asked Rahul Gandhi to take note of the advisory of the Commission to all parties, star campaigners and candidates while making public utterances.

Taking note of the various trends and cases of plummeting levels of political campaign discourse in recently-held elections, the Election Commission last week issued an advisory to all political parties to maintain decorum and utmost restraint in public campaigning and raise the level of election campaigning to “issue-based” debate.

The Election Commission will assess any indirect MCC violations as per advisory as a fair basis to rework the notices to be given in terms of time and content in the forthcoming elections, the sources said.

For the general election to the Lok Sabha and four state Legislative assemblies, all phases and geographical areas of the elections shall be the basis for determining “repeat” offences.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar recently emphasised that political parties should foster ethical and respectful political discourse that inspires rather than divides and promotes ideas instead of personal attacks.

The poll body has also put ‘star campaigners’ and candidates on ‘notice’ in case of violations that followed the previously known methodologies during elections to avoid breach of the Model Code of Conduct. (ANI)

More Unemployed Youths In India Than Bangladesh, Bhutan: Rahul

During the Madhya Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that the nation is grappling with a higher number of unemployed youths compared to Bangladesh and Bhutan.

The Congress MP said that the country has more unemployed youths than Bangladesh and Bhutan because Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finished small businesses.

“Today, there has been maximum unemployment in the country in the last 40 years. India has double the unemployment as compared to Pakistan. We have more unemployed youth than Bangladesh and Bhutan because Narendra Modi has finished small businesses by demonetization and implementing GST,” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a gathering in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior.

The World Bank report points out that in 2022, the youth unemployment rate in India was at 23.22 per cent, which was higher than its neighbours Pakistan (11.3 per cent) and Bangladesh (12.9 per cent).

Further, the Congress leader said that in terms of social injustice, the number of backward people in the country is 50 per cent, Tribal at eight per cent, and Dalit at 15 per cent. All these together amount to 73 per cent.

“Not a single person among these 73 per cent will be found in big companies. Then Modi Ji says that I am working for the poor,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi further said how one can object to caste census without knowing about the population and wealth of Dalits, Tribals and backward classes.

“Why would anyone object to this? Narendra Modi ji says that there is no caste in the country. There are only two, poor and rich. If so then how did you become OBC?” he asked.

“Narendra Modi ji is afraid because he does not want this 73 per cent to know the truth of the country,” Rahul Gandhi added.

Earlier, highlighting the reason behind such high levels of unemployment in the country, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday blamed the Narendra Modi government’s economic policies like demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax, which he claimed, was a huge blow to the MSME sector, which employs the most youths in the country.

As the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra handed over the national flag to his Madhya Pradesh counterpart, Jitendra Patwari. (ANI)

Will Not Take More Than One Min: Rahul On MSP Law

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday assured the farmers that if the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc comes into power at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections this year, then it won’t take “more than a minute” to implement legislation on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday resumed the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Agra which was also attended by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

Addressing the public, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said,” Farmers in the country want legal MSP. Modi government says that it is not ready to give them legal MSP. Whenever the government of the INDIA bloc, Congress comes at the Centre we will give them (farmers) the legal MSP. We won’t take more than a minute to implement it.”

Amid a deadlock in talks between farmers and the central government, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and has invited suggestions.

The protesting farmers, whose demands include a legal guarantee for minimum support price, had earlier rejected the government’s offer after the fourth round of talks. The Centre however expressed readiness for the fifth round of talks with the farmers while urging them to find a solution through ‘dialogue’.

Rahul Gandhi said that the word ‘Nyay’ was added in the Yatra because people are massively facing injustice in society.

“If you are poor then you will face injustice in this country 24 hours. If you are women you will face injustice. Hatred is being spread in the society. The reason for hatred is injustice, so we have added the word Nyay (justice) in our journey,” he said.

Taking part in the Nyay Yatra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the biggest challenge for the nation right now is to save democracy and the Constitution.

“I would like to thank the public for coming here. In the coming days, the biggest challenge is to save the democracy, and the Constitution, to fulfill the dreams of Dr BR Ambedkar, that has been ruined by the BJP,” he said.

Earlier today, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the BJP’s decade-long rule, highlighting concerns over youth unemployment, farmer protests, and inflation in the country.

“BJP has been in power for 10 years. Many big events such as the G20 Summit took place, everyone said that the respect of the country is increasing due to such events, even we agree to it, but I want to ask, is the respect of the country not connected with the young, our policemen, and students? There are no jobs for the youth, farmers are still sitting on roads, inflation is a burden for the people of the country,” said Priyanka Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the Yatra in Aligarh on Sunday morning. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Uttar Pradesh via Chandauli district last week. (ANI)

Cong Yuvraj Says Youth Of Kashi, UP Are Nashedi: Modi Slams Rahul

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his ‘drunken youth’ remark and said that he was “shocked” upon hearing the term ‘nashedi’ used to describe the youth of Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing the inauguration event of several projects in Varanasi, PM Modi without mentioning Rahul Gandhi’s name, noted that the prince of the Congress family referred to UP’s youth as ‘nashedi’.

“The ‘yuvraj’ of Congress ‘shahi-parivar’ has called the youth of Kashi and UP ‘nashedi’. What kind of language is this? They have spent two decades abusing Modi, and now they (Congress) are venting out their frustration on the youth of Uttar Pradesh. Jinke aapne hosh thhikane nahi hai, wo UP ke, mere kashi ke bachcho ko nashedi keh rahe hai (those who are not in their senses are calling UP’s youth addicts),” the Prime Minister said.

He further said that the youth of Uttar Pradesh are busy building a developed state.

“Now that Uttar Pradesh is progressing, the ‘yuvraj’ of the Congress family said that the youth of Uttar Pradesh are addicts. The youth of UP are busy in building a developed state,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi said adding that no one will forget this insult of the youth by the INDI alliance.

“A person who belongs to a dynasty is always threatened by the common youth force. They only like those who always praise them. And now they have another reason to not like Uttar Pradesh after Ram Mandir’s inauguration. I did not know Congress had so much hatred towards Lord Ram. They can’t see or think beyond their family and vote bank,” he added.

Earlier on February 20, in a veiled swipe at PM Modi, who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi claimed that during his visit to the temple town as a part of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra, he saw people lying drunk on roads.

Addressing the public in Amethi, Wayanad MP said the youths of Uttar Pradesh were on a ‘trip’ after boozing by night.

“I went to Varanasi and I saw people lying on roads drunk. The youths of Uttar Pradesh are on a trip after consuming liquor by night. On the other hand, there is the Ram Mandir which is only visited by the likes of PM Modi, Ambani and Adani. You will see all our billionaires there but not a single person from a backward class or the Dalit community,” Rahul said.

“Your place is only limited to roads for begging while they (Centre’s alleged corporate cronies) keep minting money,” he added.

The Varanasi constituency has seen a huge influx of funds from the Centre and state government and is also a part of the Smart City mission, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015. (ANI)

Murmu, An Adivasi, Wasn’t Allowed To Attend Ram Mandir Event: Rahul

In an attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government over the recent ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s temple, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that President Droupadi Murmu is an ‘Adivasi’ (belonging to tribal community), so she was not invited to the mega event.

Gandhi was addressing a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’.

“Did you see the Ram Mandir event? It was held with great fanfare. But did you see any Dalit faces? Our President is an Adivasi, so she wasn’t allowed to attend the event. Did you see any farmer or labourer during the event? No backward class faces were anywhere seen during the event. But you must have seen Adani, Ambani and their families. All the businessmen were there. Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Narendra Modi were there,” he said.

The ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s historic temple was held on January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing the rituals, led by a group of priests. It was attended by people from all walks of life.

Meanwhile, Gandhi said, “This is their India. This is not yours. All you do is chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, while all they do is have helicopter rides and make money.”

Reiterating the Congress’s promise to provide a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers, Rahul Gandhi said, “Farmers were stopped from entering the national capital. What are they demanding? All they are asking for is MSP; it’s no huge thing. The Congress party has promised a legal guarantee of MSP for farmers if voted to power.”

Speaking about caste census, he stated, “We have also promised a social X-ray of society, that is, caste census. We will get to know the percentage of the OBCs, Dalits and Backward Class people.”

The Congress party and its allies in the INDIA bloc have been demanding the central government to conduct a caste census across the country, claiming that it will be conducive to policy-making for people belonging to various communities on the basis of their population.

The ruling BJP, on the other hand, has been claiming that it would lead to a division in society.

Earlier today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi.

The senior Congress leader is on a Manipur-Mumbai Yatra covering 15 states ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

The Lok Sabha polls are expected to be held in April-May this year.

Amethi used to be a Congress stronghold in Uttar Pradesh, where Rahul Gandhi lost to Smriti Irani by a margin of around 55,000 votes in the 2019 elections. (ANI)

Then, we will take 2 days’ rest on 22nd and 23rd February…” said Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh.

When asked about Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh joining Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra, Jairam Ramesh said, “I expect that he will join the Yatra tomorrow. Earlier, Apna Dal leader Pallavi Patel also joined the yatra.”

Earlier the Samajwadi Party Chief had accepted the invitation from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to join the Yatra saying that he would participate in the Yatra in Amethi or Rae Bareli. However, with no headway being made in the seat-sharing talks between the two parties there have been reports that the SP Chief will stay away from the Yatra as it makes its way through Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called upon the youth of the country to rise and stand up for their rights.

He asserted that the youth should have the primary claim over the country’s wealth and resources, rather than “people like Adani and Ambani”.

Addressing a large gathering of people, which consisted predominantly of youth, on the thirty-sixth day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in this holy city of ‘Sangam’, Rahul Gandhi agreed with and shared the concerns of, the youth, particularly about their future, career and employment opportunities which were shrinking.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi fired a fresh salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Centre over the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, claiming that the OBCs, Dalits, and Backward Class people, who represent 73per cent of the total population of the country, were nowhere seen during the mega event.

Gandhi was addressing a public gathering during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Govt Wants Youth To Become Contractual Labourers: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday addressed the youth and hit out at the BJP-led central government saying that this government wants them to become contractual labourers.

“They (Centre) don’t want to use India’s Defence Budget for the training and security of jawans…You will neither be recruited in the Army nor in Railways or in any Public Sector Unit. Why? The Government wants you to become contractual labourers,” said Rahul Gandhi.

“They have given the name ‘Agniveer’ but he is a contractual labourer. That is the truth. They can sack him, throw him out anytime they want, without asking him, without pension or any help…” addedGandhi.

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav joined Rahul Gandhi in his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ on Friday in Bihar’s Sasaram. The Yatra reaches its final stage in Bihar and is scheduled to enter Uttar Pradesh later today.

Yadav was seen driving Rahul Gandhi and other leaders in the lead jeep as the yatra made its way through Sasaram with the RJD leader acknowledging his ally in his post on x.

This was the first time the RJD leader was seen sharing the stage with Gandhi in Bihar since state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar severed his ties with the INDIA bloc.

Meanwhile, Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a fresh attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while addressing the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and said that the CM does not want to listen to anyone.

“You all very well know how our CM is, he does not want to listen to anyone. He used to say ‘I will die, but won’t join BJP’…We decided to stay with Nitish ji, no matter how much we have to sacrifice, only to defeat BJP in 2024…’ Hum logo ne ek thake hue mukhyamantri ko Niyukt kiya hai’…” said RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

“He does not want to listen to anyone, but still, ours was a grand alliance government, and we wanted to be united with a big goal, We have to stop the powers that be, those who work to sow poison in the country, so this time at any cost, no matter how much we have to bear, no matter how much we have to sacrifice, we joined Nitish ji, so that BJP will be defeated in 2024. We will do the work of ousting BJP from power and we have appointed a tired Chief Minister, ” added Tejashwi Yadav.

Earlier on Thursday, Yatra reached Bihar’s Aurangabad, where Gandhi came out in praise of the Supreme Court over its verdict striking down electoral bonds, promising to conduct a financial survey across the country if voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Nyay Yatra arrived in Bihar days after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was at the forefront of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, a coalition of opposition parties formed to take on the BJP at the Centre, dumped the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) and joined hands again with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi as it enters Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening. She will join her brother in Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh after the yatra enters the state from Bihar.

Rahul Meets Hemant Soren's Wife

Rahul Meets Hemant Soren’s Wife

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday met Kalpana Soren, the wife of former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Sore, soon after newly formed government, led by CM Champai Soren, passed the confidence motion in the state assembly.

Rahul Gandhi met Kalpana Soren at her residence in Ranchi.

Congress General Secretary of Communication, Jairam Ramesh, took to X to share the photograph of Rahul Gandhi with Kalpana Soren and said, “A few minutes before the public rally at the historic Shaheed Maidan in the HEC Complex of Ranchi, and a few minutes after the JMM-INC-RJD-CPI (ML) alliance convincingly defeated the BJP and its allies on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha, @RahulGandhi met with Kalpana Soren, Hemant Soren’s wife, at their residence.”

The government of Jharkhand, led by Chief Minister Champai Soren, passed the confidence motion in the state Assembly on Monday.

The coalition government won the floor test with a 47:29 majority.

The Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato asked the members of the House who were in favour and against the motion to stand at their places one by one.

“(A total of) 47 votes have been received in favour of the motion. There were 29 votes against the motion. Thus, this House passes the trust vote,” the Speaker said before adjourning the House till 11 am on Tuesday.

In the 81-member assembly, the half way mark for a majority is 41.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha with 29 seats, and its ally Congress with 17 were confident of easily sailing through the trust vote.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister, who was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in the alleged land scam, Hemant Soren was also present in the Assembly to attend the floor test. A special court in Ranchi allowed Soren to participate in the trust-vote.

Participating in the debate, Hemant Soren, said that his arrest is just an example of the oppression faced by tribals and Dalits in society in multiple ways.

“If you look back at the oppression faced by adivasis, backward, Dalits and minorities, it has been brought forward in multiple ways in different forms. January 31 is an example of this oppression,” he said.

Lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Party, the former Chief Minister said, “I do not understand why the ruling (central) government has so much hatred towards adivasis and dalits…They don’t hesitate to say that we should remain in jungles. If we come out of jungle their graves will get dirty. They think that we are untouchables.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren while setting off the debate on the trust motion said that the Centre is misusing the agencies.

“The one who is ruling the Central government misused agencies. In 2019, Hemant got the mandate. Such a Chief Minister is arrested in a land scam case,” the Chief Minister said supporting his predecessor. (ANI)
