Baahubali Writer V Vijayendra At IFFI: I Don’t Write Stories, I Steal Them

Renowned film-maker and screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, who is known for his projects like Baahubali, RRR, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Magadheera, was among the personalities from the Indian film industry who received honours during the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

In addition, he held a workshop on the margins of the event titled “The Master’s Writing Process.” In the workshop, he spoke with aspiring filmmakers and offered tips on how he writes for movies.
Talking about how he started his journey, he said, “I did everything possible to earn a living including agriculture before becoming a writer. The writing came much later in life.”

Talking about keeping the audience in mind while writing, the writer said, “I always try to create a hunger within the audience for my story and characters and that drives me to create something unique and appealing”.

While talking about his screenwriting style, Shri Prasad said, he always thinks of a twist at the interval and organizes the story accordingly. “You have to create something out of nothing. You have to present a lie, which looks like the truth. A person who can tell a good lie can be a good storyteller”, he added.

“I don’t write stories, I steal them. Stories are there around you, be it epics like Mahabharat, Ramayan, or real-life incidents, there are stories everywhere. You need to represent it in your unique style,” said V Vijayendra Prasad during his workshop session.

Responding to the query of a budding story writer, the ace storyteller said, one has to open up his or her mind and absorb everything. “You need to be your own harshest critic, then only your best will come out and you can take your work to unscalable heights”, he asserted.

Sharing his experience of writing for the blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR, Shri Prasad said, “I don’t write, I dictate stories. I have everything in my mind; the flow of the story, the characters, the twists”. He said, one good writer should cater to the needs of the Director, Producer, Primary Protagonist, and Audience.

Vijayendra Prasad is currently working on the story for the sequel to the global blockbuster ‘RRR’.

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Ajay Devgn, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty, attended the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) opening ceremony held on Sunday in Goa. The opening ceremony’s theme, “Evolution of Indian Cinema in the Last 100 Years,” reflected the spirit of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations. (ANI)

India New Zealand final T20

India Wins Series Against NZ As Third T20I In Napier Ends In A Tie

Heavy rain interrupted play with Team India scoring just enough for a tie in the final T20 against New Zealand here and walking away with a series win in the three-match series.

The Duckworth-Lewis method was employed as the rain did not allow play after India had scored 75/4 in 9 overs chasing a target of 161 runs.
With the first match having been washed away due to rain and India having won the second match, the Hardik Pandya led-team clinched the series 1-0. This is the second time India has won a T20 series under the leadership of Pandya. India had earlier won a series against West Indies under his leadership earlier this year.

Chasing 161, the visitors did not get the best of starts losing opener Ishan Kishan dismissed by Adam Milne for 10 in the second over as they lost the first wicket with only 13 runs on the board.

Rishabh Pant looked dangerous in his short stay but was dismissed in the very next over by Tim Southee for 11 of 5 balls. In the very next ball, Shreyas Iyer was sent packing to leave India tottering at 21/3.

India desperately needed a partnership and skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav did just that by taking India’s total beyond the 50-run mark in 4.4 overs.

India went on to score 58 runs with the loss of three wickets in six overs of powerplay. Ish Sodhi was introduced into the attack and he broke the 39-run partnership.

Deepak Hooda walked out to join his skipper Hardik Pandya and the duo took India’s total to 75/4 in 9 overs. Rain then interrupted the play and it started pouring heavily forcing the umpires to call off the match.

India’s score of 75/4 in 9 overs was on par with the Kiwis as per the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Mohammed Siraj was declared as ‘Player of the Match’ while Suryakumar Yadav was named ‘Player of the Series.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. New Zealand faced a jolt in the second over as pacer Arshdeep Singh trapped Finn Allen leg-before-wicket for just three runs off four balls. NZ was 9/1 in 1.3 overs.

Mark Chapman joined Devon Conway, the other opener. Both started to hit Indian bowlers with some clean strikes. Conway in general looked aggressive, smashing Arshdeep for two fours and a six in the fourth over.

The duo was slowly building a good partnership but Chapman found Arshdeep at mid-on on Mohammed Siraj’s second delivery of the spell. Chapman was back for 12 off 12 balls. Kiwis were reduced to 44/2 in 5.2 overs.

Glenn Phillips joined Conway. At the end of six overs, NZ was at 46/2, with Phillips (1) and Conway (23) unbeaten.

Phillips and Conway brought up their fifty-run stand in 43 balls. In the second half of the innings, Phillips upped his run rate, smashing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harshal Patel for fours and sixes. Conway brought up his half-century in 39 balls, while Phillips brought up his eighth T20I fifty in just 31 balls.

At the end of 15 overs, the Kiwi’s scorecard was much healthier at 129/2, with Phillips (53) and Conway (54) still on the crease.

The 86-run partnership between the duo came to an end as Siraj dismissed Phillips for 54 off 33 balls. New Zealand was at 130/3 in 15.5 overs.

Arshdeep also took another wicket quickly, sending back Conway for 59 off 49 balls. Kiwis were at 146/4 in 16.4 overs.

India continued to make a comeback in the match. As the pair of Siraj and Pant dismissed a dangerous James Neesham for a duck. In 17.1 overs, NZ had lost five wickets for 147 runs.

Mitchell Santner was Siraj’s fourth wicket, he was back in the pavilion for just one.

Kiwis’ collapse continued as all-rounder Daryl Mitchell was dismissed for 10 off five balls and Ish Sodhi was also dismissed. Arshdeep got both wickets, taking his wicket tally to four. NZ was at 149/8.

Adam Milne was run out by Siraj for zero. Kiwis finished their innings 160 all out, with Harshal Patel taking the last wicket, dismissing Tim Southee for six.

Mohammad Siraj was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for 17 runs in four overs. Arshdeep also took 4/37. Harshal took a wicket.

Brief Scores: New Zealand: 160 in 19.4 overs (Devon Conway 59, Glenn Phillips 54, Mohammad Siraj 4/17, Arshdeep Singh 4/37) vs India 75/4 in 9 overs (Hardik Pandya 30*, Suryakumar Yadav 13; Tim Southee 2/27). (ANI)

India Welcomes Loss & Damage Fund

COP 27: India Welcomes Loss & Damage Fund As ‘Justice’

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav called COP27 a “historic COP” adding that “the world has waited far too long for the ‘loss and damage fund’ agreement.”

The minister was speaking at the closing plenary of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) held on Sunday at Sharm El-Sheikh. In his remarks at the closing session of the COP27, Yadav welcomed the transition to a Sustainable Lifestyle and sustainable patterns of consumption.

He stated that India welcomes efforts to address climate change. Addressing the Egyptian Presidency, Bhupender Yadav called it a “historic COP” where an agreement was made for a “loss and damage funding” arrangement. He noted that the world has waited “far too” long for the loss and damage funding agreement.

“You are presiding over a historic COP where agreement has been secured for loss and damage funding arrangement including setting up a loss and damage fund. The world has waited far too long for this,” Bhupender Yadav said in his remarks at the closing session of the COP27.

“We congratulate you on your untiring efforts to evolve consensus,” he added.

Bhupender Yadav said, “We also welcome the transition to Sustainable Lifestyle and sustainable patterns of consumption and production in our efforts to address climate change in the cover address.”

He further said, “We note that we are establishing a four-year work programme on climate action, agriculture, and food security. Agriculture, the mainstay of livelihood for millions of smallholders of farmers will be hard hit by climate change. So, we should not burden them with mitigation responsibilities.”

Yadav noted that India has kept mitigation in agriculture out of its NDCs. He announced that India is creating a work programme on just transition. Highlighting the importance of just transition, Union Minister for Agriculture said, “For most developing countries, just transition cannot be equated with decarbonisation but with low carbon development.”

In his remarks at the closing session of the COP27, Bhupender Yadav said, “Developing countries need independence in their choice of the energy mix and in achieving the SDGs. Developed countries taking the lead in climate action is, therefore, a very important aspect of the global just transition.”

Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the decision to establish a “loss and damage fund.” In a video message to the 27th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Guterres called the creation of a “loss and damage fund” an “important step” towards justice.

Guterres stressed that the decision will not be enough but noted that it is a “much-needed political signal to rebuild broken trust.” In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the Egyptian government and COP27 President Sameh Shoukry for their hospitality. He appreciated the delegates and members of civil society who came to Sharm el-Sheikh to push leaders for climate action.

“The conference has taken an important step towards justice. I welcome the decision to establish a loss and damage fund and to operationalize it in the coming period,” Antonio Guterres said in the video message.

“Clearly this will not be enough, but it is a much-needed political signal to rebuild broken trust,” he added.

On Sunday, the delegates at the COP27 agreed for establishing the “Loss and Damage Fund.” The “Loss and Damage Fund” will help to make up for the losses suffered by developing nations that are vulnerable to climate change. (ANI)

“The sense of ownership over natural resources is giving rise to conflict today and has become the main cause of the plight of the environment. For the safe future of the planet, the sense of trusteeship is the solution. LiFE i.e. ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ campaign can make a big contribution to this. Its purpose is to make sustainable lifestyles a mass movement,” he added.

This G20 became special as India officially received the presidency of the G20 Summit and will assume office from 1st December 2022 for a one-year period.

Talking further about India’s presidency of the G20 summit, PM Modi said that the country is taking charge of the G-20 at a time when the world is simultaneously grappling with geopolitical tensions, economic slowdown, rising food and energy prices, and the long-term ill effects of the pandemic. And at that time “world is looking at the G-20 with hope,” he added.

In the closing ceremony, Prime Minister said that the member countries have to extend the benefits of development to all human beings with compassion and solidarity. He also said that without women, global development is not possible.

“We have to maintain priority on women-led development even in our G-20 agenda. Without peace and security, our future generations will not be able to take advantage of economic growth or technological innovation,” PM Modi said.

“The G-20 has to convey a strong message in favour of peace and harmony. All these priorities are fully embodied in the theme of India’s G-20 Chairmanship – “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” he added.

PM Modi started his speech with a congratulatory message for the Indonesian President Joko Widodo. While lauding Indonesia’s President, PM Modi said that he has given efficient leadership to the G-20 even in these difficult times.

He also said that India will strive to take forward Indonesia’s commendable initiatives during its G-20 Presidency.

We Are 90 Nautical Miles Close: Modi On India-Indonesia Ties

Highlighting the close cultural ties between India and Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said, “We are not 90 nautical miles away, we are 90 nautical miles close.”

Addressing a community program in Bali, Indonesia on the accomplishments of the Indian diaspora, he said, “India and Indonesia have an enduring partnership. We are not 90 nautical miles away, we are 90 nautical miles close.”

“India and Indonesia both have many similarities in their cultures. On Sankranti, beautiful and colourful kites fill the skies of both nations,” added PM Modi.

PM Modi also referred to a unique kite exhibition that he attended with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta last year.

Lauding the Indian diaspora in Bali, he said, “The Indian diaspora living in Bali have contributed to the growth of Indonesia across various fields such as art, engineering, agriculture, and even the film industry.”

Speaking about India-Indonesia relations, he said, “People often say, ‘It is a small world.’ This is true for India and Indonesia. Relations between both nations have prospered over centuries.”

He also referred to Bali Yatra as happening in the Indian city of Cuttack in Odisha.

“As I speak to you in Bali and we sing songs of Indonesian traditions, 1500 km away from here in India’s Cuttack, Bali Yatra Mahotsav is going on – Bali Jatra. This Mahotsav celebrates thousands of years old India-Indonesia trade relations,” said PM Modi.

“When people of Indonesia see photos of this year’s Bali Jatra on the internet, they will be proud and happy. Due to the issues arising due to COVID, some hurdles had cropped up. After several years, Bali Jatra Mahotsav is being celebrated on a grand scale with mass participation in Odisha,” he added.

PM Modi was greeted by people who chanted “Modi, Modi” at the Indian community event in Bali.

He also tried his hands at traditional Indonesian musical instruments.

He compared the cultural and geographical similarities between the two nations.

“If India has the Himalayas, Indonesia has Mount Agung; if India has Ganga, Indonesia has Tirta Gangga – we are united through cultures and traditions,” said PM Modi.

Speaking about Operation Samudra Maitri, he said, “Relations between India and Indonesia stand strong during both good and difficult times. In 2018, when Indonesia was affected by an earthquake, we immediately started operation Samudra Maitri.”

“When the cultures are similar when the vision for humanity is similar, then the paths to development also coincide,” he added. (ANI)

Nehru for country's unity: AK Antony

India should go back to basic ideas of Nehru for country’s unity: AK Antony

Senior Congress leader AK Antony on Monday said India should go back to the basic ideas that were given by Jawaharlal Nehru, adding that is the only saving position for keeping the unity of the country.

“Indian National Congress believes that all those who live in India but speak different languages, and follow different customs must get equal protection,” senior Congress leader AK Antony said addressing the media persons in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram.
“Religion is a reality but the Congress and the Constitution believe in protecting all of them. Every person must be treated equally by the Government of India,” Antony said further adding that the country should go back to the basic principles held by the former Prime Minister of India.

“India should go back to the basic ideas that were given by Jawaharlal Nehru that is the only saving position for keeping the unity, diversity, peace, progress, and Integrity of India,” he added.

Antony named the principles of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as– Dams and related business, agricultural growth, scientific temper, federalism, strong center, strong states, strategic autonomy, and nonalignment– and mentioned that with these policies India became a friend of all. All his principles are written in Constitution, he said.

Emphasizing that economical inequality should end in the country, he also said that the fight in the name of the language is unfair.

“India should not fight in the name of the language. When there was a demand for Dravidstan in Tamil Nadu, Nehru told Tamil people not to worry and assured of the implementation of three languages so that all languages are protected,” Antony said.

“Congress is not against Hindi. It is the language of the country but regional languages are also required. Implementing Hindi everywhere will only cause harm. The opposition to Hindi is getting stronger in the state,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31 said that in the past, forces that were perturbed due to India’s progress still exist and campaigns are being run to make one Indian language an enemy of another.

Notably, PM Modi’s statement on that day had come in the backdrop of controversy over the recommendation of a parliamentary panel to make Hindi the medium of instruction in central educational institutions, over which Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India and Singapore UPI

Soon Money Transfers Between India-Singapore Using UPI: Indian Envoy

India and Singapore have completed technical preparations to link their fast payment systems UPI and PayNow to enable fund transfers between the two countries instantaneously and at low cost, a move which is aimed at benefitting migrant workers.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Singapore’s central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), have been working on linking the United Payments Interface (UPI) and PayNow, a project that is expected to roll out very soon.
“Singapore wants to connect its PayNow with UPI and that project will finish sometime in the next few months when that happens anybody sitting in Singapore will be able to send money to their family members in India,” India’s High Commissioner in Singapore P Kumaran said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to announce the project once it is formalized, the envoy told ANI.

The remarks of India’s ambassador to the city-state came ahead of the Asean and related summits, which kicked off in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and is witnessing the participation of leaders of the 10-member regional bloc.

“For us, the practical implications sitting here is that any worker who wants to send small amounts can do so at a fraction of the money they are being charged by the standard money transfer companies. So it is going to be a big benefit to those who instead of sending money in one go can do so in small pieces and it will still cost less,” the Indian envoy to Singapore said.

PayNow is similar to India’s homegrown card payment network RuPay. Apart from this, PayNow has linkages with other countries of Asean, which makes it easier for people to buy and sell within the region.

“PayNow also has similar initiatives with other countries in Asean so when PayNow connects this side with India and that side with Asean countries they can go from India to any Asean country through Singapore. They currently have a project with the Philippines, the Indian ambassador said.

Similarly, Malaysia and Thailand have made a connection with their fast payment systems.

“Eventually we will also have added connectivity and it will reduce transaction costs of remittances,” The Indian envoy said.

Under the proposed linkage, money can be transferred from India to Singapore using mobile phone numbers and from Singapore to India using UPI virtual payment address (VPA).

Approximately there are an estimated 2 lakh workers come to Singapore to work for brief periods and they often send money back home. The UPI-PayNow especially will benefit migrant workers who typically sacrifice about 10 per cent as fees charged by banks for money transfers.

Asean comprises 10 member countries- Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Asean has become the fifth-largest economic community in the world. A linkage such as the UPI-PayNow could become a model for setting up an infrastructure for cross-border payments between India and the Asean countries.

It is estimated that once the PayNow – UPI link gets accepted it will become much more widespread. A system of linking payment systems would make it easier for people to buy and sell within the region by scanning UPI-based QR (Quick Response) codes. UPI-based, Q R code based is much easier.

“Most Indian tourists who come here do not have a RuPay card and even if they have it they might have the domestic RuPay card so it is a bit complicated. So in future, we see a lot of people leaning to digitalisation not carrying a lot of cash not dependant on international credit cards which have very high fees,” the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore said.

Earlier in 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced the project to link their fast payment systems targeting operationalisation by July 2022.

The new methods of cross-border payments can make money transactions between countries in the region fast and convenient and much cheaper.

Such payment connectivity collaboration in the Asean would benefit migrant workers, tourists, small businesses, and enterprises. (ANI)
