As part of the Vocal for Local initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Uttarakhand on Friday appealed to people, particularly tourists, to spend money on purchasing locally-made products.

“I appeal to all tourists in the country to spend at least 5 percent of their travel budget on buying local products,” Prime Minister Modi said at a public event held at Badrinath’s Mana, the last village bordering China.
Earlier too, he had appealed to fellow Indians on various occasions to purchase indigenous products to sustain the local economy.

Talking about villages situated near international borders and far-flung areas, the prime minister said every village located in the border areas will be now considered as the first village of India.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for road widening projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two road widening projects – from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B) – shall be another step towards providing last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border areas. Apart from boosting connectivity, these projects will also prove beneficial from a strategic point of view as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the progress of development work of the riverfront in Badrinath on Friday.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister offered prayers at Badrinath and Kedarnath.

In Kedarnath, he laid the foundation stone for a ropeway project, which will be around 9.7 km long and will connect Gaurikund to Kedarnath, reducing the travel time between the two places from 6-7 hours at present to only about 30 minutes.

Modi Arrives In Badrinath

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Badrinath Dham in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday.

Before arriving in Chamoli, PM Modi visited Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag and offered prayers in one of the holy shrines donning a traditional pahadi outfit, Chola Dora, that was gifted to him by Himachali women during his tour to the state.
PM Modi arrived at Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun earlier in the day and was received by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmeet Singh.

He later laid the foundation stone of the Kedarnath ropeway project and after that visited the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal.

He also reviewed the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath.

Prime Minister is on a visit to the Himalayan state to lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 3,400 crore.

After worshipping at Badrinath, PM Modi is scheduled to review the progress of the development work of the riverfront, followed by laying the foundation stone of road and ropeway projects at Mana village. He will review the progress of the development work of the arrival plaza and lakes.

The ropeway in Kedarnath will be around 9.7 km long and will connect Gaurikund to Kedarnath, reducing the travel time between the two places from 6-7 hours at present to only about 30 mins. The Hemkund ropeway will connect Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. It will be around 12.4 km long and will reduce the travel time from more than a day to only about 45 mins. This ropeway will also connect Ghangaria, which is the gateway to Valley of Flowers National Park, said the PMO statement.

The ropeways, which will be developed at a cumulative cost of around Rs 2,430 crore, are an environment-friendly mode of transport that will provide a safe, secure and stable mode of transport. This major infrastructure development will give a boost to religious tourism, which will give a fillip to the economic development in the region and lead to the creation of multiple employment opportunities as well.

Foundation stone for road widening projects worth around Rs 1000 crore will also be laid during the visit. The two road widening projects – from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B) – shall be another step towards providing last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning offered prayers at Uttarkhand’s Kedarnath shrine, donning a ‘Chola Dora’ outfit gifted to him by women of Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba.

The traditional pahadi outfit in white colour and sporting fine hand embroidery was gifted to the prime minister during his recent visit to Himachal. PM Modi, on receiving the gift had promised the women that he would wear it the first instance during a visit to a cold region.

By wearing the outfit at today’s visit he fulfilled that promise.

Prime Minister Modi performed puja at Kedarnath Temple today. He was accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. PM also visited the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal at Kedarnath.

UN Chief Visits Sun Temple In Modhera

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Sun Temple in Modhera, Gujarat on Thursday, as part of his three-day trip to India.

Earlier today, Guterres launched the Mission LiFEmovement in Ekta Nagar, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both leaders also held a bilateral meeting.
The duo paid floral tributes at the Statue of Unity at Kevadia and the UN Secretary-General joined Prime Minister Modi at the launch of the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) booklet, logo, and tagline.

Envisaged by PM Modi, Mission LIFE is expected to be an India-led global mass movement that will nudge individual and collective action to protect and preserve the environment.

Mission LiFE will be India’s signature initiative at the United Nations and other international platforms for showcasing climate action and early achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) release.

On Wednesday, Guterres met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and exchanged views on pressing global concerns and challenges in multilateralism.

UN Chief also paid tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai and addressed students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

Terming India a partner of choice of the UN, he said New Delhi has increased its impact on the international stage due to the donation of medicines, equipment, and vaccines at the height of Covid-19 to neighboring countries.

“From your donations of medicines, equipment, and vaccines at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to your humanitarian assistance and development finance to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, you’re increasing impact on the international stage. Mandakini, Saraswati Asthapath At Kedarnath To Boost Religious Tourism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath on Friday for the launch of various developmental projects.

He will also review the progress of the development works of Mandakini ashtpath and Saraswati ashtpath in Kedarnath.
With the construction of the two asthpath, cultural tourism is expected to get a huge thrust in the region.

The point where there is a confluence of Mandakini or Saraswati is called Sangam snan ghat in the Kedarnath temple.

The devotees take a holy dip before going inside the temple to offer prayers. Two roads diverge from here which lead to the temple. The developmental projects that are underway in Kedarnath include Mandakini Ashtpath and Saraswati Ashtpath, which will be inspected by the Prime Minister tomorrow.

Two separate bridges have been constructed from Sangam snan ghat to Mandakini Ashtpath and Saraswati Ashtpath, from where the devotees will enter the temple.

“A queue management has been readied at the interjection of the two bridges from where the devotees will enter. They will reach the temple directly from this point,” the site engineers told ANI.

A water ATM has also been set up at Mandakini Ashtpath where 22 water taps have been installed. The devotees will get warm and cold water here. New shops have also been brought up where the materials relating to worship will be available.

Nearly eight buildings have been built with two floors each. There are four rooms on the ground floor and the top floor each. Shops will be set up on the ground floor while the priests will be made to stay on the top floor. Toilets and other facilities have been taken care of for the devotees.

Rooms for the priests and a corridor for worship have been made in the Saraswati Ashtpath. A separate building has been built here, where the work relating to the administration will be done.

Developmental works are underway in Kedarnath at a fast pace. With the construction of Mandakini Ashtpath and Saraswati Ashtpath, cultural tourism is expected to get a huge boost in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttarakhand tomorrow.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, in Kedarnath, at around 8:30 am, he will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Kedarnath Temple. At around 9 am, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Kedarnath Ropeway Project. After that, he will visit the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal. At around 9:25 am, he will review the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath.

Thereafter, Prime Minister will reach Badrinath where, at around 11:30 AM, Prime Minister will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Badrinath Temple. At 12 noon, he will review the progress of the development work of the riverfront, followed by laying the foundation stone of road and ropeway projects at Mana village at 12:30 PM. Thereafter, at around 2 PM, he will review the progress of the development work of the arrival plaza and lakes.

Kedarnath and Badrinath are one of the most important Hindu shrines. The area is also known for one of the revered Sikh Pilgrim sites – Hemkund Sahib. They Want To Make Delhi AAP-Nirbhar: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that his party is dedicated to making the national capital “Aatmanirbhar”.

“Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal gives press statements every day and publishes big advertisements. He thinks that press interviews will bring development and that people can be misled by publishing ads. AAP wants to make Delhi ‘AAPnirbhar’ while we want to make Delhi Aatmanirbhar,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said after inaugurating the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Tehkhand waste-to-energy plant at Tughlakabad.
Shah in his address said that this plant can manage to process about 2,000 metric tonnes of garbage waste every day besides producing 25 megawatts of green energy.

“This plant will manage about 2000MT of garbage per day and produce 25 MW of green energy. This is a multi-dimensional, multi-purpose plant,” he said.

He further said that they will give reply to CM Kejriwal’s behavior with MCDs in a “democratic manner”.

“We will give a reply to Arvind Kejriwal’s behavior with MCDs in a democratic manner,” Shah said adding that he believed that they would establish daily waste processing facilities in Delhi by 2025 with the help of MCD.

“In future, such heaps and mountains of garbage won’t be seen,” he added.

Amit Shah further said, “People of Delhi need to decide if they like the politics of ‘Vigyapan’ (advertisement) or politics of ‘Vikas’ (development). People should also decide if they like ‘prachaar’ (campaign) politics or ‘parivartan’ (change) politics.” (ANI)

Tamil Nadu: 1.5 Lakh Left Jobless After Firecracker Ban

Owing to blanket bans on firecrackers in numerous states, 1.5 lakh people in the firecracker manufacturing industry have been left jobless in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.

Firecracker makers who were anticipating a boom this Diwali after a two-year halt due to Covid-19, are also facing losses.
It is noteworthy that the firecracker sector has employed over 7 lakh people, and there are currently more than 1,000 registered firecracker units in operation. For more than 6.5 lakh Sivakasi families, the fireworks industry has been their only source of income. However, recent developments, including the ban on barium, have left over 1.5 lakh people jobless.

“The garland cracker has been banned despite being a significant item. Since garland crackers are entirely handmade and when we are not able to produce them, workers lose their jobs. This work was performed by around 40 percent of factory employees,” one of the workers said.

Nagendra, a fireworks worker, stated, “I’ve spent the last 20 years working in a cracker factory. The firecracker industry is the only industry in the Sivakasi area. The firecracker industry is the only source of income for the 5 lakh people that live here. Agriculture cannot be practiced under these conditions, only the firecracker business can.”

“For many years, the firework industry has been afflicted by issues such as a restriction on the use of certain chemicals and a ban on the manufacture of some explosives. Due to the rain, fireworks cannot be manufactured at this time. This has resulted in employment losses, and many states have banned the sale and bursting of firecrackers around Diwali, thus our work is not yielding the desired results,” he further added.

“Therefore, on behalf of the firecracker workers, I request that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should consult Prime Minister Modi and raise the livelihood of the firecracker workers,” Nagendra said.

Nagama, another fireworks worker, stated, “There is no longer any production or selling of firecrackers. We don’t know any other businesses besides crackers, and that are being harmed by government laws that are costing us our jobs. The government should consider our welfare and make sound decisions.” (ANI)

Over 200,000 Indian men and women have served in 49 peacekeeping missions since 1948, a remarkable contribution to peace in the world. “

“As a member of UNSC for two years, India’s contributed significantly to promoting multilateral solutions and addressing crises,” he added. (ANI)

Docs Protest Over AIIMS SoPs For Treatment Of MPs

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and other doctors’ associations have opposed the move of the AIIMS director’s letter on standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sitting members of Parliament.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, Director, Dr M Srinivas on Wednesday wrote a letter to YM Kandpal, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha over streamlining of Outpatient Department (OPD) and emergency consultation, inpatient hospitalisation services for Members of Parliament, following the SOPs issued.
“We condemn VIP culture. No patient should suffer at the cost of another’s privileges. That being said, having a protocol to streamline things should not be viewed as derogatory, provided it doesn’t hamper patient care,” FORDA said in a tweet.

The FAIMA doctors association questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the VIP culture.

“On one side, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji says ‘There is no VIP Culture in India!,’ but on the other hand, AIIMS New Delhi Director Dr M Srinivas releases a letter to promote VIP Culture! Like past we still stand against VIP Culture!” the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) said in a tweet

The doctors of the country are constantly tweeting and opposing the decision taken by the AIIMS Director.

In a letter, Dr Srinivas said, “In case a sitting Member of Parliament requires OPD consultation from a speciality / super speciality department the Lok Sabha/ Rajyasabha secretariat or personal staff of the MP will contact the duty officer and provide him requisite details about the ailment and specialist/superspecialist doctor to be consulted.”

“The SOPs include duty officers who are qualified medical professionals from the department of hospital administration will be available in the control room AIIMS Hospital around the clock and the duty officer on duty will be the nodal officer to coordinate and facilitate requisite medical care arrangements for on sitting MPs,” the letter reads.

He further said that the landline telephone numbers of the control room and mobile phone numbers of the duty officer on duty will be constant respective of the person on duty.

According to the letter by Dr Srinivas, “The duty officer will speak to a concerned specialist or super specialist doctor or head of the department and will fix up a requisite appointment. In case it is so required we can speak to the Chief of Centre or Head of the concerned department as well.”

“In case of an emergency situation where the people’s representative requires immediate medical management, the Lok Sabha/Rajyasabha secretariat or personal staff of the MP will contact the duty officer and provide him with requisite details about the ailment. So that the duty officer can guide them as to which emergency services the MP should be brought to main emergency or Trauma Centre emergency or an Eye emergency,” the letter reads further.

“In case of inpatient hospitalisation MP, the treating faculty will send a brief note to the medical superintendent about the ailment or illness that MP is suffering from the proposed line of management and expected duration of stay. it will be countersigned by the medical superintendent and will be sent to the Lok Sabha/ Rajyasabha secretariat given email id by the medical superintendent’s office,” said Dr Srinivas in a letter

After the circulation of the letter, AIIMS New Delhi tweeted, “AIIMS New Delhi has always had a 24×7 Control Room for co-ordination of medical care of patients from all walks of life Residents and Faculty from Department of Hospital Administration work here to ease logistics and expedite treatment for poorest of the poor.” (ANI)

In the opening of his statement, UN Chief said that he is delighted to celebrate with India, the 75th anniversary of independence. He also congratulated India on its achievement over the last 75 years “as the world’s largest democracy and now as the fastest-growing major economy.”

Guterres said that India was a founding member of the United Nations. The drafters of the UN Charter took great inspiration from Gandhiji’s message of peace, non-violence, and tolerance.

Earlier, UN Chief paid tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai.

“Terror is absolute evil. There are no reasons, no pretext, no causes, and no grievances that can justify terrorism. terrorism is absolute evil. It has no room in today’s world,” Guterres said while addressing the presser at Taj Hotel.

UN Chief further said, “I feel deeply moved to be here where one of the barbaric terrorist acts in history took place where 166 people lost their lives. I want to pay tribute to the victims they are heroes of all world and I want to express my deepest condolences to their families, to their friends, to the people of India, and to all those that are coming from other parts of the world that have lost their lives in Mumbai.”

He also said that “fighting terrorism must be a global priority for every country on earth and fighting terrorism is a central priority for the UN”.

On the very next day, in Gujarat (Ekta Nagar, Kevadiya), he will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launch of the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) booklet, logo, and tagline.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar would hold bilateral discussions with the UN chief on issues of global concern, and steps to deepen India’s engagement with the UN, including through India’s upcoming Presidency of the G20 and reformed multilateralism, added the release.

In Kevadiya, Guterres is expected to pay floral tributes at the Statue of Unity. He will also be visiting India’s first solar-powered village in Modhera (Gujarat) and other development projects in the area. UNSG will also be visiting the Sun Temple in Modhera, before departing for his onward destination. (ANI)
