Raids At Residences Of The Wire Editors; Electronic Evidence Seized

The Delhi Police Crime Branch conducted searches at the residences of ‘The Wire’ founder Siddharth Varadarajan and Founding Editor MK Venu after an FIR was registered on BJP leader Amit Malviya’s complaint.

Earlier on Saturday, an FIR was registered by the Delhi Police against The Wire on BJP leader Amit Malviya’s complaint alleging it “forged documents with a view to malign and tarnish my reputation.”
Malviya registered a complaint alleging that the news website “forged documents with a view to malign and tarnish” his reputation.

Delhi Police said that it has seized electronic devices (mobiles, laptops) from the residences of Siddharth Varadarajan, MK Venu, and others.

No notice was given to anyone and no inquiry has taken place today. Further investigation is going on and necessary steps will be taken, added the Delhi Police.

Malviya, who is head of BJP’s Information and Technology Cell, had filed a criminal complaint against The Wire and its top editors with the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) on Saturday.

In his complaint, the BJP leader had sought registration of FIR under sections 420, 468, 469, 471, 500 r/w 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

In FIR names mentioned are The Wire, its founding editors Siddharth Vardarajan, Siddharth Bhatia and MK Venu, and Jahnavi Sen, deputy editor and executive news producer.

The complaint had said FIR should also be registered against the Foundation of Independent Journalism and other unknown persons “for the offenses punishable u/s 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 469 (Forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record.), 500 (Punishment for Defamation) r/w 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860”.

The complaint to Delhi Police had said that “the accused persons have with common intention conspired to maliciously defame the complainant and the BJP by spreading false news to the public”.

The matter pertains to Meta stories which were “retracted” by The Wire. It retracted the stories after Meta and various other experts pointed out critical flaws in their reporting.

Amit Malviya had alleged in a statement on Friday that on October 6, 2022, The Wire published a report claiming that Meta (the parent company that owns Facebook and Instagram) had removed an Instagram post within a few minutes of it being uploaded by a private account namely “Cringearchivist”. The report claimed that the company regularly colludes with members of the BJP in removing content deemed unfavorable to the party.

He further said that on October 10, 2022, the news website went on to claim that “I was the nodal point, interfacing between the party and Meta, for said censorship activity, having been bestowed certain “XCheck” and other privileges by the company”.

“As per the report, this status had bestowed on me the following powers overriding any filters, algorithms, vetting, verification or any other checks and balances within the company,” Malviya said.

He had alleged that the report went on to cite alleged internal correspondence of Meta to justify its claims, alleging had used said privileges to take down a total of 705 posts to date.

“On October 11, 2022, Meta’s Communication Head, Andy Stone, had issued a categorical denial and stated that the documents presented by ‘The Wire’ in its report were fabricated’ and that the “Xcheck” status had been mischaracterized. Once Meta issued this statement, ‘The Wire’ should have at the very least paused its coverage of this issue and commenced an internal audit.

Instead, on the same day, it went on to publish yet another malicious report claiming to have accessed further internal emails of Meta employees, namely those exchanged between Andy Stone and his team, purportedly trying to effect a coverup,” he had said in a statement on Friday.

He had stated that The Wire publicly apologized to its readers on October 27 and retracted the stories about “XCheck” and Meta after scathing public scrutiny and the exposure of significant fabrication of dates, times, and content in its alleged “proof”.

“However, even while retracting the story, The Wire’ refrained from apologizing to me, despite maligning and tarnishing my reputation and causing serious harm to my professional career. My role requires me to vociferously advocate the BJP’s point of view on national issues, across platforms,” he had said.

“This role is based on trust and camaraderie, between me and my interlocutors across platforms and more importantly with the public. However, The Wire’s stories have vitiated the atmosphere and severely dented relationships and trust built over the years for me to carry out the functions of my responsibility,” the BJP leader added.

Stating that The Wire and some unknown persons entered into a “criminal conspiracy” with the intent to “malign and tarnish” his reputation, he said that the news portal “deliberately” inserted his name into a story, and “fabricated” evidence to “implicate” him.

“This also undermines the democratic and informed choices that the public makes, through a carefully calibrated campaign of disinformation and calumny, and does irreparable harm to the democratic right of dissent,” he had said.

The complaint to the police also said that The Wire “with the help of such fabricated and false stories tries to attract viewership on its website wherein readers are requested to donate money in the name of “true and independent journalism”.

Malviya, who is also BJP’s co-in-charge for West Bengal, had said on Thursday that he will sue the news website for damages.

“After consultation with my lawyers and seeking their advice, I have decided to file criminal and civil proceedings, against ‘The Wire.’ Not only will I be setting the criminal process in motion but I will also sue them in a civil court seeking damages as they forged documents with a view to malign and tarnish my reputation,” Malviya had said.

Last week, The Wire formally retracted its Meta stories “after conducting an internal review of the technical source material used, with the help of external experts”.

The Wire said it is also conducting a comprehensive editorial review of the internal editorial processes “which resulted in the publication of these stories in order to identify and plug any and all shortcomings”. (ANI)

Shah To Hold High-Level Meet On Leh-Ladakh, J-K This Eve | Lokmarg

Not Let Any Indian Language Die: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged citizens in the country to “not let any single language of the country die”.

Shah’s remarks came while speaking on the occasion of India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 147th birth anniversary.
“We Indians need to decide that no matter how many languages there are in this country, we will not let a single one die,” Shah said while addressing at Sardar Patel School here in the national capital.

Clarifying that he is not against the learning of any language, Shah said, “I am not against learning any language. One can learn, English, German, Russian or French. There is no problem in it. But don’t leave your own language.”

Noting that “we, unfortunately, combine the knowledge of English with intellectual ability in our country”, Shah said, “Language is not indicative of ability. Ability is your own, and it is expressed by any language. Don’t have an inferiority complex about language. Come out of that.”

“If you have the ability then the world will have to listen to you whether you speak in your own or any other language.”

The Minister urged people not to leave their own language, appealed teachers to speak with children in their mother tongue, and asked the youth to protect and take forward their mother tongue.

“We will have to keep alive our mother tongue and carry forward it. The responsibility of breaking the barrier of inferiority complex of language is on youth,” the Union Home Minister said.

Shah said, “If we assume that only those people who know English well can contribute to the development of the country, we connect only five per cent of the country’s population with the development of the country.”

The Minister said, “if we do not involve a child who thinks, speaks, writes and does research and development in his own language, we deprive 95 per cent of the children of the country from the development of the country”.

Referring to suggestions that came in India’s new education policy, Shah said a maximum of them emphasised the need to keep primary education of the children in their own language.

“Technical and medical education also should be in the regional language. Besides, research and development should also be in regional language,” Shah said citing the suggestions received for the new education policy.

The Minister said if we want to make Mahatama Gandhi and Sardar Patel’s country of imagination we should come out of the inferiority complex of language and protect as well as promote our own language.

On Sardar Patel, Shah said, “For a long time, the country did not even do anything to remember the work of Sardar Patel”.

It took so many years for a person like Sardar Patel to get Bharat Ratna, mentioned the Minister on the event, adding, “It took so many years to build Sardar Patel memorial”.

But, Shah said, Sardar Patel is such a person who is immortal by his work.

He said Mahatma Gandhi had idealistic and spiritual leadership, on the other hand, Sardar Patel was a realistic and practical leader, and the combination of these two leaders has given a lot to the country.

Now, the Minister said India has achieved a place in the 75 years of its Independence that no one in the world will be able to dare to insult India’s border and Indian army. (ANI)

Kanye Fans Make Crowd-Funding Page To Make Him Billionaire Again

After big companies like Adidas, Balenciaga and Gap cut ties with Kanye West, Page Six quoted a Forbes report stating that he had lost his billionaire status.

However, in what could be termed an astonishing twist, his fans have taken a pledge to make him a billionaire again!
Kanye’s fans have made a crowd-fund page online to make him a billionaire again. They are trying to raise a total of 1 billion dollars. So far, no donation has been made.

After Adidas cut ties with Kanye and his Yeezy collection, Kanye West lost his billionaire status. Adidas issued a statement last week in response to West’s anti-Semitic remarks, saying, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech.”

“Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness,” the company added.

Page Six quoted a Forbes report according to which West’s worth is USD 400 million now after the Adidas partnership was terminated. The Yeezy deal accounted for USD 1.5 billion of his net worth.

This development came just days after Balenciaga cut ties with the rapper. Post that, while speaking to TMZ Kanye said, “I ain’t losing no money… The day I was taken off the Balenciaga site was one of the most freeing days.”

He said that people are merely cutting ties with him to “mute him. He mentioned that people are doing so to simply “score points,” according to Page Six.

He further added that it’s not easy to cancel him – “We here, baby, we ain’t going nowhere.”

He defended his anti-Semitic commend and told TMZ, “I want to talk about the Jewish comment, it’s actually proven the exact point that I made.”

Kanye West recently hired Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez to handle his business matters, however, Camille refused to work with him because he did not retract his anti-Semitic statement. (ANI)

Imran's Proposal On Appointment Of Next Army Chief

Shehbaz Rejects Imran’s Proposal On Appointment Of Next Army Chief

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s proposal on the appointment of the army chief and instead offered to discuss the Charter of Democracy and Charter of Economy, The Express Tribune reported.

While talking with the vloggers on Saturday, Sharif said that PTI Chairman offered him to resolve two issues in which the first matter was the army chief’s appointment and the second was holding early elections.
“Imran had suggested that we give him three names and he gives three names for the post of army chief and then we decide on the appointment of the new chief from those six names,” The Express Tribune quoted the Pakistan PM as saying.

“If there is a common name in both the lists, then we will agree,” Sharif said, adding, however: “I flatly refused Imran Khan’s offer by saying thank you.”

He further said that instead, he offered “Imran Khan to discuss the Charter of Democracy and Charter of Economy.”

Sharif also said that he had sent a message that the appointment of the army chief was a constitutional duty that will be performed by the PM.

He also said that Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general held a press conference along with the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) earlier this week with his permission, reported The Express Tribune.

Sharif explained that he was told that the ISI chief wanted to hold the press conference because he (ISI DG) was an eyewitness to the meeting between Imran Khan and the army chief. He added the ISI chief put the whole matter in front of the people.

“Imran Khan is currently targeting the army leadership only to fulfill his personal desires,” Sharif said. “Imran Niazi now spewing poison against those who nurtured him. No one is safe from his mischief,” he added.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan reiterated that the only demand he has had for the past six months is the date for early, fair and free elections.

“For all those spreading rumors about my meeting in Lahore, the reason we returned was that Lahore was closer and we had already decided not to move at night. The only demand I have had for 6 months is the date for early fair and free elections. That will be the ONLY demand if talks are to be held,” he tweeted on October 29.

The former Pakistan prime minister has been at odds with the Shehbaz Sharif government and the country’s military establishment since his ouster from power in April this year. (ANI)

Conditions For Liquor Ban Will Shake Up Admin: Uma Bharti

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Uma Bharti said that she will create such conditions regarding the liquor ban within the next six months to a year that all the officials and the administration will be afraid.

She made the remark while talking to the media persons in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. Bharti said, “Bhay Bin Preet Na Hoye (No love without fear). It may happen next time that if I came, the liquor shops will get closed.”

“I don’t want shops to close on my arrival and open after my departure. I want a decision or policy to be made that these shops are shut permanently. It is not mean that I consider myself a Tees Maar Khan (someone who considers him/herself to be the smartest and most cunning person). I actually wanted to be a 60 Maar Khan (double one),” she added.

Besides, Bharti also said that those who consume alcohol themselves want to leave it. They were not consuming it by the choice, they are forced to drink due to addiction, she said.

She said the government is helping people quit drinking in rural areas. She said, “The government is running a drug de-addiction campaign. The MLAs have been instructed. The Chief Minister is talking about it in his speeches and he is administering oath to the people for the same,” she said. (ANI)

Explosions Heard In Kyiv

Explosions were heard in Kyiv early on Monday morning, days after Russia blamed Ukraine for a drone attack on its Black Sea Fleet.

According to CNN, it comes after a week of power outages in the capital and other parts of Ukraine caused by Russian attacks on the country’s power infrastructure.
Air raid sirens also sounded across the city, the Kyiv Regional State Administration said on Telegram. Air defense systems were working and people have been asked to stay indoors in shelters and other safe places, the administration added.

Russian missiles struck key infrastructure facilities in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and the central region of Cherkasy, Ukrainian officials said Monday.

Kharkiv’s Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram that two missiles hit a critical infrastructure facility in the city.

Parts of the Cherkasy region have lost power after a critical infrastructure facility was hit, regional military administration head Ihor Taburets said.

Parts of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv are without electricity and water after critical infrastructure facilities were hit, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

Power outages caused by Russian attacks continued in Kyiv over the weekend. Klitschko said earlier it will take weeks to repair electrical systems.

Ukrainian officials believe Russia’s countrywide drone and cruise missile attacks are being carefully orchestrated to target important infrastructure as Ukraine heads into winter, reported CNN.

By hitting thermal power stations, electricity sub-stations, transformers and pipelines, Russian forces have been directly impacting Ukrainians’ ability to access power, water and the internet.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that Ukrainian forces repelled “fierce Russian assault” in Donetsk, reported CNN.

Ukrainian forces fought off a “fierce assault” by Russian troops in the eastern city of Donetsk on Sunday, ZelenskyY said in his daily televised briefing.

“Today, they stopped a fierce assault by the enemy,” Zelenskyy said. “The Russian attack was repelled.”

Russia suspended its participation in a UN-brokered grain deal viewed as key to addressing the global food shortage, according to the country’s defence ministry.

Moscow announced it was leaving the deal after blaming Ukraine for a drone attack on Crimea Saturday. Kyiv accused Russia of inventing “fictitious terrorist attacks” and using the deal as “blackmail.”

By Sunday, more than 200 vessels had been blocked from making shipments, Ukraine said. A growing number of Kyiv’s allies condemned Moscow’s move. (ANI)

Delhi: BJP’s NaMo Cyber Warriors To Take On AAP In MCD Polls

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be introducing NaMo Cyber Yoddha (NCY), an online volunteer campaign-cum-initiative ahead of the civic polls in Delhi.
According to BJP, NCY will be a platform for those who are not necessarily into politics but want to raise their voice on important issues. It will be volunteer-driven. Around 50,000 NaMo cyber warriors will be galvanized over a period of one month.

The party said thousands of people are influenced by the ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mission of service, development and ‘sabka saath’.

Though BJP is preparing to launch the NaMo Cyber Yoddha campaign, the most important question is whether NCY helps the party to garner votes in its favor in MCD elections.

BJP national spokesperson and in-charge of Delhi’s social media and digital campaign Shehzad Poonawalla said, “NaMo Cyber Yoddha is an army of motivated volunteers that will help to expose the lies and wrongdoings of AAP government in Delhi and counter their campaign with facts and truth.”

Poonawalla further said NCY will be launched soon. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Rambir Bidhuri, Chief of Election Management Campaign Ashish Sood, Shahzad Poonawalla, and BJP MPs from Delhi will be present at the launch event.

In the run of municipal elections in Delhi, BJP and AAP have come face to face.

BJP has been accusing the Arvind Kejriwal government of being corrupt. BJP alleged that in the last 8 years, the AAP government has completely failed on every front and has been the most corrupt government in the history of Delhi.

“From liquor to hawala and bus to electricity subsidy – AAP is a government of scams. AAP runs propaganda and advertisement to hide its failures. There has been a 420 percent increase in spending. People understood the reality of their ‘world-class model’,” said Poonawalla.

The BJP leader said AAP claims a world-class education model but cannot name 10 new colleges.

“They cannot show the 7 new hospitals they were going to build. Yamuna river is getting polluted continuously and as a result, we have been denied the opportunity to perform Chhath puja on its ghats,” he said.

Poonawalla said the air quality in Delhi has been deteriorating but no action has been taken on stubble burning or pollution other than blaming Diwali and firecrackers.

Attacking the AAP further, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that “Various AAP leaders have targeted the Hindu faith. Hundreds of crores rupees have been spent on salaries of Waqfs and Imams to please a vote bank but no money spent on ASHA workers, teachers, and free coaching of SC/ST/OBC students.”

Now amid these allegations and counter-allegation politics, BJP’s Namo Cyber Yoddha campaign is believed to make the Delhi Municipal Corporation election more interesting.

Earlier this month, the total number of civic body polls’ wards in the national capital reduced from 272 to 250 following a notification issued by the Ministry of Home on Tuesday pertaining to the redrawing of wards of the Delhi civic body- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

After the ‘delimitation’ of MCD wards by the central government, the total number of wards in the MCD will amount to 250 of which 42 are decided to be reserved.

Now after the final delimitation order is issued, elections are expected soon.

It is to be noted that before the amalgamation of corporations, there were a total of 272 wards comprising the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation. North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation had 104 wards each, while East Delhi Municipal Corporation had 64 wards. But after the delimitation, now the number of wards has been reduced to 250.

Notably, AAP Delhi raised concerns that there is no equal distribution of population in the delimitation of wards. AAP leaders had also lodged their objection by meeting the state election officials.

Earlier, the Delhi Congress had questioned the reduction of wards from 272 to 250. The Delhi Congress had also alleged a conspiracy to reduce the representation of the Dalit community in this regard, as the reserved seats have been reduced from 46 to 42. (ANI)
