Pressing the Wrong Button Brings Mafia Raj: Nadda Targets BSP MP

Noting that voting right is crucial in a democracy, Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda said on Friday that pressing the “wrong button” results in the “mafia raj” but pressing the right button results in the formation of a medical college.

Addressing a public meeting at ITI ground in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, Nadda lauded the infrastructure development taking place in Uttar Pradesh. He termed the development of the state as ‘HIRA’
“Today, I say that development means HIRA — H for Highway, I for Internet, R for Railways and A for Airways,” he said.

Add waterways to this, he continued, as Uttar Pradesh is now connected to the eastern port by the River Ganga.

The BJP chief earlier took part in the felicitation ceremony of the ex-servicemen.

In his remarks at the public meeting, Nadda talked about the pace of development in Uttar Pradesh under the BJP government.

“Today, when I was coming (from Kashi), I saw Ghazipur has changed a lot. Earlier, it took hours to reach Ghazipur from Kashi. Today, it took just one-and-a-half-hour,” he said.

Nadda said this became possible because the people of the state properly used the power of their vote.

He said India would soon become the world’s fourth-largest economy.

Referring to India’s growing power under the Modi government, Nadda said that in 2014, 92 percent of mobiles used to come from outside and today 97 percent of mobile phones are being made in India.

“We have become the second-largest manufacturer of steel. India is giving the cheapest medicine to the world. The country has become the dispensary of the world. We are at the forefront of chemicals. India has overtaken Japan to become the third-largest country in the automobile industry,” he said.

Nadda also said during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister set up a task force and in just eight months, the country received two vaccines.

“You will be surprised to learn that whereas vaccination rates are currently 100 percent in India, they are only 74 percent in America,” he said.

The BJP said that Uttar Pradesh is moving forward by leaps and bounds under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“During the government of Akhilesh Yadav, when we used to send money, it used to go somewhere else as there was a hole in the bowl of the state government. No work was done on the ground using that money,” he said.

“Kidnapping, hooliganism, land grabbing, and mafia raj were all common at the time,” he alleged.

Nadda said BJP has provided relief to the common man.

“Today, the picture of villages has changed. People used to carry lanterns because there were no lights in the UP villages earlier. Every village in the state now receives enough electricity.”

Nadda slammed BSP MP from Ghazipur Afzal Ansari, brother of gangster Mukhtar Ansari, and said “the MP you elected from here has nothing to do with the people here”.

“Their only task is to figure out how to get ‘Bhaiya’ out of jail,” he said.

Addressing the ex-servicemen, Nadda said that the Indian Army is considered to be the most powerful army in the world. In any kind of crisis, Indian soldiers have sacrificed their lives and have protected the country and the border.

He said that India’s defense exports have also increased almost eight times.

In 2014, the country’s defense exports were Rs 1941 crore and have increased to almost Rs 12000 crore today and there has been an increase of about 54.12 percent in comparison to the year 2020-21.

Now around 300 defense items will be made in India and this will reduce our dependence on other countries.

Ghazipur is among the few seats BJP lost in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha election. The party is putting special efforts to strengthen itself on seats it lost in the 2019 general election in the state.

Nadda’s tenure as BJP chief was extended in the BJP National Executive meeting held in the national capital earlier this month. (ANI)

The meeting, as per the sources, will be held at 5.45 in the evening.
The IOA will conduct the meeting virtually with the wrestlers to discuss the allegations levelled by the ace grapplers as well as other complaints and demands they have put forward.

Saying they were fighting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Commonwealth Games gold medallist Bajrang Punia appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to hear their demands.

Several ace wrestlers of the country, including Sakshee Malikkh, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Dahiya, are participating in the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which began on Wednesday.

Wrestlers have levelled charges of sexual harassment of women wrestlers by the WFI president and its coaches and of mismanagement in the functioning of the federation. They have also demanded a complete overhaul of the federation.

The WFI president Brij Bhushan Saran Singh has refuted all allegations and claimed he will expose the ‘political conspiracy’ in a press conference in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda today.

On Thursday some wrestlers had a meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur which stretched till early this morning.

However, according to sources the meeting remained inconclusive and the minister is likely to meet with grapplers again today at his residence.

Meanwhile, Vinesh, Bajrang, Sakshee, Ravi and Deepak on Friday wrote to PT Usha, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on the ‘sexual harassment’ complaints against WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Saran Singh.

Big Tech Layoffs

Google Slashes 12,000 Jobs In Big Tech Layoffs

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the American tech giant is cutting approximately 12,000 jobs, which is around 6 per cent of its global workforce.

“I have some difficult news to share. We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles. We’ve already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected. In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices,” Pichai said in an open letter.
This is the latest technology firm to initiate large-scale layoffs as inflation rises and global markets face a downturn.

Google’s CEO said the company had undertaken a rigorous review across product areas and functions to ensure that their people and roles are aligned with their highest priorities as a company. “The roles we’re eliminating reflect the outcome of that review,” he added.

Pichai said Google will support employees as they look for their next opportunity.

“As an almost 25-year-old company, we’re bound to go through difficult economic cycles. These are important moments to sharpen our focus, re-engineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities,” he added.

According to US online newspaper TechCrunch, the news means that four out of the five so-called “big tech” firms have now announced significant redundancies in the past few months.

In Google’s earnings report last October it announced revenue of USD 69 billion and profit of USD 13.9 billion; marking growing revenue but shrinking profits, American technology news website The Verge reported.

Last year, Pichai hinted that the company would be slowing down on hiring, the report added. He had said Googlers would have to work with “greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger than we’ve shown on sunnier days.” (ANI)

Wrestlers protest

Wrestlers Write To PT Usha On Complaints Against WFI Prez

Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshee Malikkh, Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia on Friday wrote to PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association on “sexual harassment” complaints against Wrestling Federation India chairman Brij Bhushan Saran Singh.

In a letter to the IOA president Usha, the star grapplers accused the WFI chairman of sexual exploitation and financial irregularities.
The letter signed by Bajrang Punia, Phogat, Malikkh, Dahiya, and Deepak Punia’s demands the resignation of the WFI chief and the formation of an inquiry committee on the allegations of sexual harassment.

On Thursday several ace wrestlers of the country including Phogat, Mallikkh and Bajrang Punia participated in the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, that began on Wednesday.

Wrestlers have levelled charges of sexual harassment of women wrestlers by the WFI president and its coaches and of mismanagement in the functioning of the federation. They demanded a complete overhaul of the federation.

Indian wrestler and Commonwealth Games medalist Vinesh Phogat on the first day of protest on Wednesday alleged that coaches who are favourites of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) misbehave with women and harass them. She also accused the wrestling federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexually harassing girls and calling her a ‘khota sikka’ after her defeat at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

On the sidelines of a sit-in protest against the WFI near Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Phogat on Wednesday said, “Coaches are harassing women and some coaches, who are favourites of the Federation, misbehave with women coaches as well. They sexually harass girls. The WFI president has sexually harassed many girls.”

However, the WFI chief refuted the charges of sexual assault allegations made by the wrestlers against him on Wednesday.

Denying the claims by the wrestlers of their sexual assault, Singh said, “I read that the name of the chief coach has also been taken in sexual assault allegations. I also read that the reason for the players’ camp being held in Lucknow is so that they can be called at my home. I do have a home in Lucknow but I hardly reside there. My home is 120-130 kms away from Lucknow. All the sexual harassment allegations are false and I will commit suicide if they are found to be true. I tried to get in touch with the wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia but was unable to do so.”

Meanwhile, some wrestlers also had a late last night meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on the issue that stretched into the early hours of today.

Later in the day, under pressure to resign from his position over allegations of sexual exploitation of women wrestlers, WFI chairman Singh said he will “expose” the “political conspiracy” on Friday afternoon in a press conference.

Singh, who is also a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh, in a Facebook post said that he will hold a press conference at the Wrestling Training Centre in Nawabganj in Gonda district of the state. (ANI)

TN BJP Passes Resolution Against Stalin For Disrespectful Remarks Against Governor

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday passed a resolution in the party’s executive meeting at Cuddalore against Chief Minister MK Stalin seeking his apology for ‘disrespectful’ remarks against Governor RN Ravi.

This comes after Stalin on January 14 took a veiled dig at Governor RN Ravi without mentioning his name during a Youth wing event organised to remember DMK founder Peraringar Anna.
“Today someone is lamenting that the name of Tamil Nadu should not be used. We should not give more importance to such publicity campaigns,” Stalin said.

In the BJP resolution passed today, the party condemned the state government for the incident which occurred during the Governor’s customary address at the opening session of the House in which Congress and the VCK, started raising slogans against the Governor and staged a walkout.

The resolution also condemned the Stalin government for not arresting RS Bharathi and Sivaji Krishnamoorthy who allegedly humiliated the Governor.

“If the Governor refuses to utter the name of Ambedkar in his Assembly speech, do I not have the right to assault him?” If you (Governor) do not read out the speech given by the Tamil Nadu government, then go to Kashmir, and we will send terrorists so that they’ll gun you down,” Krishnamoorthy had said.

The BJP also condemned Stalin for using ‘disrespectful’ language against the Governor.

During the meeting, it was also decided that BJP state chief Annamalai would start his yatra across the state from Tiruchendur on April 14. Further details on the yatra will be revealed later.

On Wednesday, January 9, the Governor sparked a controversy with his statement that the name ‘Thamizhagam’ would be more appropriate for the state.

Governor Ravi’s remark during his customary address at the opening session of the House on Monday, triggered an uproar, especially from the Treasury benches.

Legislators of Congress and the VCK staged a walkout.

Congress and Communist parties and other allies protested outside Raj Bhavan against TN Governor RN Ravi earlier over the speech row. CPM protested today near Little Mount. (ANI)

Goddess Kaali Poster: SC Protects Manimekalai From Coercive Steps

Goddess Kaali Poster: SC Protects Manimekalai From Coercive Steps

The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim protection from any coercive steps to filmmaker Leena Manimekalai in multiple FIRs lodged against her over the poster of her documentary film showing goddess ‘Kaali’ smoking a cigarette.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha issued notice to the States and directed that no coercive steps shall be taken against the filmmaker either on the basis of the FIRs which had already been lodged or on the basis of FIRs which may be lodged in relation to the ‘Kaali’ poster row.
The apex court took into note that at this stage, the lodging of FIRs in multiple states may cause serious prejudice to the filmmaker and issued notice to the states on a plea for consolidation of all FIRs in one place.

“Issue notice to the respondents. List on February 17, 2023. No coercive steps shall be taken against the petitioner either on the basis of FIRs or pursuant to any FIR which may have been lodged or may be lodged in relation to the same matter,” the apex court stated in its order.

Manimekalai has approached the filed top court seeking protection and quashing of the multiple FIRs registered against her in various States.

The poster of the documentary depicts the Hindu goddess ‘Kaali’ smoking a cigarette in a poster.

The plea also sought clubbing of all the FIRs registered against her in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the poster.

The filmmaker has also sought a stay of the criminal proceedings emanating from these FIRs.

Manimekalai has said her attempt as a creative filmmaker was not to offend the religious sentiment of anyone but to depict the image of a radically inclusive goddess.

She said she also received open calls for violence against her, her crew, and her family, after she tweeted a poster of her film, Kaali.

Manimekalai has challenged the proceedings against her in the district courts of Hazratganj in Lucknow, Ratlam, Bhopal, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Haridwar in Uttarakhand, and Delhi. (ANI)

Pfizer CEO Runs Away From Vaccine Questions In Davos

Albert Bourla, Chief Executive Officer of US-based pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, encountered a series of tough questions about the efficacy of its Covid vaccine on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum meeting, but he repeatedly ignored the queries and a video on it has gone viral.

A Rebel News journalist was seen asking a lot of uncomfortable questions to the Pfizer CEO. Among the questions, he asked the CEO why the manufacturer kept the fact secret that its vaccine did not stop transmission of the virus.
The Pfizer chief time and again ducked these questions, only to say “Thank you very much” and “Have a nice day”.

In the video, the journalist was heard saying, “You (Pfizer) said it was 100 per cent effective, then 90 per cent, then 80 per cent, then 70 per cent, but we now know that the vaccines do not stop transmission. Why do you keep that secret?”

The journalist kept on following the Pfizer chief even though he did not solicit a response. In another question, he was heard asking whether it was time to apologise to the world and to give refunds to the countries that bought vaccines that did not yield results.

Going back to the initial days of the commencement of the vaccination drive, the US-based pharma firm Pfizer sought an indemnity bond that will exempt it from legal claims in case there are any adverse effects from the vaccine.

India’s minister for state for information and technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, attaching the video of the Pfizer CEO’s uneasy encounter with the reporter at Davos, tweeted, “Just to remind all Indians, that Pfizer tried to bully Govt of India into accepting conditions of indemnity.”

The minister also went on to target Congress’ Rahul Gandhi, P Chidamabaram and Jairam Ramesh, claiming that the trio kept pushing the case for administering foreign vaccines in India.

“People are surprised that only three vaccines have been made available in India: Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik Of the three, you can write off Sputnik because only a small quantity was imported in the initial days,” Congress veteran Chidambaram had tweeted on December 27, 2021.

“We have left with 2 vaccines thanks to the PROTECTIONIST policy of the Modi Government Pfizer, Moderna and other WHO-approved vaccines are kept out of India on one pretext or other Which is why we don’t have enough vaccines to administer 2 doses to the 94 crore adult population.”

Notably, India’s immunization drive against Covid was by and large fulfilled through indigenously manufactured vaccines. (ANI)

The aviation regulator also has suspended the license of the Pilot-In-Command of the flight for the period of three months.
According to the DGCA’s notification, the license of the Pilot-In-Command has been suspended for a period of three months for failing to discharge his duties as per Rule 141 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements.

“Financial Penalty of Rs 30,00,000 (Rupees Thirty Lakh only) has been imposed to M/s Air India for violation of applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements,” it further said.

On November 26 last year, a man named Shankar Mishra allegedly urinated on a 70-year-old woman in an intoxicated condition in business class of an Air India flight.

Delhi Police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him on January 4 on a complaint given by the woman to Air India under sections 354, 509, and 510 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 23 of the Indian Aircraft Act. Both the accused and the victim are from outside Delhi.

US-based financial services company Wells Fargo also terminated its employee Shankar Mishra after the incident.

“Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behavior and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This individual has been terminated from Wells Fargo. We are cooperating with law enforcement and ask that any additional inquiries be directed to them,” the company said in a statement.

Air India also banned Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on the elderly woman, from flying for four months. (ANI)
