Pawar Joins NDA In M’rashtra, Takes Oath As Deputy CM

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s senior leader Ajit Pawar on Sunday joined Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra and took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state.

In a dramatic turn of events, Pawar, along with nine MLAs, reached Raj Bhawan to meet Governor Ramesh Bais.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was also present on the occasion.

Earlier, a meeting of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders was called at the residence of NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Sunday and later Ajit Pawar along with other party leaders reached the Raj Bhavan.

Goyal On Uniform Civil Code

Cong Has Gone Berserk: Goyal On Uniform Civil Code

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has hit out at Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal and the Congress for questioning the BJP-led government over the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) saying that the leaders of the grand old party have gone “berserk”.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Goyal said that it is the need of the hour that a law should be made by uniting and including all the people of the country and the Supreme Court has also endorsed many of its verdicts.
“I think the Congress and its leaders have gone berserk. It is the need of the hour that a law should be made by uniting and including all the people of the country. Supreme Court had also talked about bringing UCC five times in different judgments. Kapil Sibal has forgotten the development works PM Modi has done for the minorities. No government has done as much as done in Modi government,” Goyal said while talking to ANI.

The union minister further said that the BJP would get cross-party support for the UCC.

“We have a full majority in Rajya Sabha and I think there are many leaders from other parties who want that the country should unite. I think many parties will support BJP on Uniform Civil Code. We will get cross-party support for this,” the minister said.

Earlier on Saturday, Kapil Sibal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should inform the country of what the proposal was for a UCC.

The former union law minister also said that Uttarakhkand’s Civil Code cannot be implemented across the country.

“Firstly Prime Minister should inform the country what is the proposal for UCC and on what issues he want uniformity. Until a proposal is put forward, there is no need for a debate (on UCC),” Sibal said.

“Uttarakhkand’s Civil Code cannot be implemented across the country. People are not completely aware of the law, but there are discussions going on,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong endorsement of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) brought it back to the spotlight.

PM Modi said that the country cannot run on two laws and that Uniform Civil Code was part of the Constitution.

“Today people are being instigated in the name of UCC. How can the country run on two (laws)? The Constitution also talks of equal rights…Supreme Court has also asked to implement UCC. These (Opposition) people are playing vote bank politics,” PM Modi had said.

However, going against his own party, Himachal Pradesh Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh has backed the implementation of the UCC.

“Congress party has always represented all segments of the fabric of India…As far as uniform civil code is concerned. We have said in this that we believe in the uniformity of diversity…So before bringing any law, no one should feel that this law is against them…There has to be a strong consensus building amongst all the parties concerned…But they (BJP) have to take everybody on board,” the Congress leader added. Rahul Gandhi Manipur

Rahul To Take Chopper After Convoy Stopped By Manipur Police

Rahul Gandhi who landed in Imphal earlier on Thursday was forced to make his way back to the State capital a short while later after local police prevented his carcade from proceeding to Churachandpur, where the Congress leader was headed to meet with victims of ethnic violence.

“Seeing the ground situation, we stopped him (Rahul Gandhi) from moving forward and advised him to travel to Churachandpur via helicopter. There is the possibility of a grenade attack along the highway through which VIP Rahul Gandhi is moving. Keeping his security and safety in mind, we’ve not allowed him,” Bishnupur Superintendent of Police (SP) Heisnam Balram Singh told ANI
Gandhi is now returning to Imphal airport, from there he will go to his pre-fixed program by helicopter, a Congress party source said.

The Congress leader’s convoy was stopped at a checkpost near Bishnupur, which is about 20 kilometres from Imphal.

Police, party workers and locals staged a protest and later, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

“Seeing the ongoing situation in the State, we have stopped the VIPs from proceeding. They can go to places wherever they want by helicopter. If the police actions have been taken otherwise, it is not our problem,” a police official said.

K Meghachandra, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President has accused the Manipur government of “politicising” Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state.

“People are standing on the roads to welcome Rahul Gandhi but Bishnupur SP, ASP, ADM and other police officials are blocking the roads. I have heard that there were instructions given by Manipur CM to block the roads. They are politicising this. They are only saying that the law and order situation is not good and are not allowing us to move ahead,” Meghachandra said.

Also, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Incharge North East, Ajoy Kumar said that the police had given permission to Rahul Gandhi to travel by road too.

The government action is “totally unacceptable and shatters all constitutional and democratic norms,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said.

Kharge took to Twitter to say, “Gandhi’s convoy in Manipur has been stopped by the police near Bishnupur. He is going there to meet the people suffering in relief camps and to provide a healing touch in the strife-torn state. PM Modi has not bothered to break his silence on Manipur. He has left the state to fend for itself.”

“Now, his double-engine disastrous governments are using autocratic methods to stall a compassionate outreach by Rahul Gandhi. This is totally unacceptable and shatters all constitutional and democratic norms. Manipur needs peace, not confrontation,” Kharge said.

Gandhi who had landed in Imphal earlier today for a two-day visit was on his way to Churachandpur where he planned to meet people, displaced by the recent clashes, at the relief camps.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal while speaking to ANI said that the police said that they are not in a “position” to allow the leaders to head forward.

“Rahul Gandhi’s convoy has been stopped by police near Bishnupur. Police say that they are not in a position to allow us. People are standing on both sides of the road to wave to Rahul Gandhi. We are not able to understand why they stopped us” Venugopal told ANI.

Venugopal had said that during his stay, Rahul Gandhi will engage with civil society representatives and visit relief camps in Imphal and Churachandpur, two of the worst affected places in the State due to violence. (ANI)

Anurag Thakur Himachal Sukhu

Cabinet Approves Rs 315 Per Quintal Remunerative Price For Sugarcane Farmers

The union cabinet has approved the fair and remunerative price for sugarcane farmers at Rs 315 per quintal, which is the highest ever, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said here on Wednesday.

He said sugar procurement has increased to Rs 1,13,000 crore and total procurement in the 2014-23 period stands at Rs 7,86,066 crore.
Addressing a press conference, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister said, “PM Modi has always been in support of farmers, that’s why the ministry was named ‘Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’. The cabinet has approved the highest-ever fair and remunerative price of Rs 315/quintal for sugarcane farmers for the sugar season 2023-24.”.

“The decision will benefit 5 crore sugarcane farmers and their dependents, as well as 5 lakh workers employed in the sugar mills and related ancillary activities,” he added.

Making a comparison with the previous governments, the Union Minister said that under the BJP government, timely payments have been made to the sugarcane farmers.

“In 2013-14, the rate used to Rs 210/ quintal and the total procurement was around Rs 97,104 crore. While it has increased to Rs 1,13,000 crore under the BJP government. Under the UPA rule, the total procurement was Rs 2,71,204 crore. While in 2014-23, the procurement of Rs 7,86,066 crore has already been done. At that time, the sugarcane farmers had to block roads and protest for getting their payments. But, in the last few years, all the payments have been timely done and the backlogs have been cleared as well,” he said.

He further added that the scheme of mixing ethanol with crude oil has also turned out beneficial in multiple ways.

“Prime Minister Modi has stressed on mixing of ethanol with crude oil; petrol and diesel. For this purpose, Rs 20,500 crore has been allocated. This shows that now they have more cash, earlier they were overladen with stocks and farmers didn’t receive payments. It has strengthened our Atmanirbharta, led to reduction in the use of foreign exchange and also propelled the growth of ethanol sector,” Thakur further added. (ANI)

Length Of Highways In India Increased 59% In 9 Yrs: Gadkari

The total length of national highways in India increased by about 59 per cent in the past nine years – since the current government came into power, said Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said and noted as a result of this expansion the country now has the second largest road network after the US.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, Gadkari said the total length of National Highways was 91,287 km in 2013-14, which has now increased to 145,240 km in 2022-23.
He also said that, in the last nine years, the increase in four-lane highways rose about two times. In 2013-14, the length of four-lane highways was 18,371 km which has increased to 44,654 km now.

Secretary road transport and Highways Anurag Jain and NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav were also present at the press conference.

Further, Gadkari said with the introduction of FASTag, there has been a significant jump in toll collection. The minister further informed that the revenues from tolls rose to Rs 41,342 crore in 2022-23 from Rs 4,770 crore in 2013-14. The central government aims to increase the toll revenue to Rs 130,000 crore by 2030, he added.

Gadkari said the waiting time at toll plazas has also reduced as a result of this.

“In 2014, the waiting time at the toll plazas was 734 seconds, whereas in 2023 this has reduced to 47 seconds. We are hopeful that we will bring it down to 30 second soon,” he said.

Minister spoke about the transformative impact of FASTag on travel experiences in India, saying it has revolutionised the concept of toll payments, eliminating the need for cash transactions. This breakthrough, he said citing some research, has saved approximately Rs 70,000 crore in wasted fuel expenses.

For the northeast region, Gadkari said special emphasis is being laid on the expansion in the road highway network in the far east region, saying projects worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore are being carried out in the region.

On green initiatives taken by the government, Minister pointed out that his Ministry has utilised 30 lakh tons of garbage in road construction for the Delhi Ring Road project, demonstrating a proactive approach towards waste management and sustainable infrastructure development. (ANI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Modi Congratulates Athletes For Winning 202 Medals At Special Olympics Summer Games

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated the athletes who represented India at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Berlin and won 202 medals including 76 Gold Medals.

India finished the final day of the Games by taking their medal tally to 202 medals (76 gold, 75 silver and 51 bronze), with the last of the medals coming from the athletics track.
“Congratulations to our incredible athletes who represented India at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Berlin and won 202 medals including 76 Gold Medals. In their success, we celebrate the spirit of inclusivity and applaud the perseverance of these remarkable athletes,” PM Modi tweeted.

The Special Olympics World Games 2023 came to a close here on Sunday, after an evocative, emotional and triumphant closing ceremony at the Brandenburg Gate in the centre of the city. The gate had served as a restricted zone when the city was divided by the Wall, and has, ever since been a beacon of unity — a fitting parable for a sporting event that celebrates unity, diversity and special skills.

Indian athletes notched six medals from the track events (2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze). The headlines would undoubtedly go to the gold medallists Aanchal Goyal (400m, Level B Female) and Ravimathi Arumugam (400m, Level C Female) who blew away their competition to take the top of the podium. And yet, it is important to note that the color of the medal is not in itself a judge of the performance. Saket Kundu, who had earlier grabbed a silver medal in the mini javelin Level B, also won a bronze in the Level B 400m, a rare double act in the track and field. (ANI)

Antony on congress

LDF, Cong Showing Fake Unity: Antony

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anil K Antony on Tuesday said that the Left Democratic Front and the Congress party are fooling the people in the country by trying to create a fake unity.

Speaking on the arrest of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran in a cheating case in Kerala, the BJP leader said, “Fight between Congress and CPIM in Kerala is clearly visible now after the arrest of Sudhakaran. On one hand, they speak of opposition unity and on the other hand, there is an open fight going on in states.
Anil Antony told ANI that all the events in the last few days in Kerala and events across India in many states are an example that the opposition unity is just on paper.

“It is just fragments of fantasy by a few parties which has nothing in common, in vision or ideology or direction. The only thing all these parties are trying to create in the name of unity is their common opposition towards Prime Minister Modi Ji”, BJP’s Anil Antony said.

He further said that it also shows the opposition’s contempt towards the mandate of the people of the country.

“It shows their contempt towards the mandate of the people of India. What these parties fail to realise and what they fail to remember at this point is that in 2014 and 2019, there is a central government that has been elected by the people of India through one of the largest mandates in history and here are these people without anything in common except for their hatred towards the PM. In another way they are also disrespecting the mandate of the public”, Antony added.

Antony asserted, “Now in Kerala these two parties, the Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) which are among the 15 opposition parties who attended the meeting in Patna, whose leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sitaram Yechury are together saying that they have to fight BJP. But in Kerala what we are witnessing is the actual reality of these two parties. There the Congress is saying that the CPIM government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is one of the most corrupt administrations in entire India.”

The BJP leader escalated his attack on the two parties and said that the CPIM-led government in Kerala is charging cases against the leader of the opposition and KPCC chief while their leaders in the Capital are claiming they are on the same page in the fight against BJP.

“The CPIM government in Kerala is charging cases and having an investigation against the Leader of the Opposition and the KPCC president in the state. The KPCC chief was arrested 2 days back and the LoP is facing vigilance charges against him. Then ironically the same people are coming here and in one stage they are sitting with Rahul Gandhi and then they are saying we are united in the fight against BJP”, Anil Antony said.

He further alleged that every one of the 15 members of the coalition is doing the same with each other like the events in Kerala and making a fool of the public.

“Rahul Gandhi himself is blaming the CPIM leadership by saying that they will not tolerate any kind of intimidation by the CPIM government in Kerala. So all this is just cacophony. Every one of the 15 members of the coalition across India are doing this to each other and then they think that they can fool the public”, he added.

He further said, “They can fool the people of this country by trying to create some fake unity against PM Modi. The public will stand with the Prime Minister in 2024 and we are absolutely sure that this is to happen especially when we see all this kind of hypocrisy that two of the main parties of the 15 doing right now.”

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet on the KPCC chief’s arrest in Kerala, Anil Antony said, “This is exactly my point. This is BJP’s point, Rahul Gandhi himself is saying that we don’t fear political vendetta. Vendetta of whom is he talking about? The CPIM. The same CPIM whose general secretary Sitaram Yechury with whom he actually shared a stage in Patna in the fight against the BJP?”

Further responding to Sitaram Yechury’s remark that the case against the KPCC chief is not politically motivated and the rest all are misinterpretations of facts, Antony said, “In Kerala, BJP is fighting very hard on the ground to bring out the facts. Now that the CPIM and Congress have come to an under-the-table understanding at the central leadership. We want to ensure that whatever is the truth comes out and justice prevails.” (ANI)
