German CEOs Meet Modi, Double Down on India Growth Story

German-based companies’ CEOs doubled down on the Indian growth story after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of German companies had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and discussed new opportunities for the German Companies to expand education and business opportunities in India.

German CEOs eulogise the meeting with Prime Minister Modi. Chairman of the Management Board of TUV NORD, Dirk Stenkamp on Saturday said that India is at forefront of leading nations with increased self-confidence and is at the point where it can take off.

While talking with ANI, Stenkamp said, “The meeting with the Prime Minister was very impressive, I think India is at the forefront of leading nations and there has been an increase in self-confidence in the last two years. “I think India is at the point where it really starts to take off.”

Speaking on the ‘Make in India’ initiative he said, “I know about Make in India since the beginning and we’re supporting many German companies to come to India and start producing in India. Currently, there’s an initiative going on in German Mittelstand invited by India to come and become part of Make in India”.

Currently, an initiative is going on in German small and medium-sized enterprises where they are asked to come to India and become part of the make-in-India initiative, he informed.

Regarding growth and expansion, he said that the opportunities in India are tremendous.

“We are very active in energy transition, which means turning fossils to watts, wind and so on,” he added.

Other than Stenkamp, there was three more companies delegation that participated in the meeting with PM Modi.

One of them was Klemens Rethmann, CEO of the German-based Rethmann company, who stated that India has skill and talent and it’s a “privilege to use those resources,” and added that “India will become bigger in the production world.”

“You’ve got the workforce here. So, Germany is lacking in the workforce. You’ve got such wealth and skilled work and so many intelligent young people who wanted to do something. This is a privilege to use those resources. And therefore, PM Modi asked us to produce in India but for us, it’s not only because he asked us because this is where the resources are and we see our chances,” Rethmann told ANI.

Meanwhile, CEO of Renk, Susanne Weigand stated that they are proud to be here, a trusted partner of the Indian government. The company are supplying the Indian armed forces and Navy with drive solutions. We also actively supply the Indian energy market with our high-speed gears.

“India is also a booming fast growing cement market,” she added.

“We are based in Bengaluru with our team and we are expanding a lot, we honour the ‘Make in India’ initiative which is important for us also as India is a high-speed going market, a key market in Asia,” The CEO of Renk said while appreciating the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Modi Government.

Not only Weigand, but CEO of the Software company SAP, Christian Klein also participated in the meeting with PM Modi. After the meeting, he said that India has high aspirations for sustainability and wanted to use technology to decarbonize supply chains and produce green hydrogen which goes hand in hand with technology.

He also said that he is happy to be a partner of India.

While talking to ANI, Klein said, “The country (India) has high aspirations for sustainability and wants to use technology to achieve that, to decarbonize supply chains, to move to the circular economy, to produce green hydrogen. And that goes hand in hand with technology. And India has a very strong agenda for both topics.”

All CEOs are a part of the delegation visiting India along with the German chancellor Olaf Scholz. Olaf Scholz is on a two-day visit to India from February 25-26. (ANI)

Sonia Telangana

My Innings Could Conclude With Bharat Jodo: Sonia

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said she was glad that her innings could conclude with the party’s mass outreach programme ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ while describing the march as “a turning point” for the party.

The 85th plenary session of the Congress party began on Friday in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Addressing the gathering on the second day of Congress’ three-day brainstorming session here, Sonia Gandhi said, “Our victories in 2004 and 2009 along with the able leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh gave me personal satisfaction but what gratifies me most is that my innings could conclude with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a turning point for Congress.”

The former Congress chief accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre of subverting every institution in the country.

“This is a challenging time for Congress and the country as a whole. BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have captured and subverted every single institution in the country. It ruthlessly silences any voice of Opposition. It has caused economic ruin by favouring a few businessmen,” added the Rae Bareli MP in a veiled attack on Centre amid the row over Hindenburg’s report on the Adani group.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra traversed 12 states and two Union territories in 145 days after its launch on September 7 last year and covered 4,080 km.

The yatra culminated with an event at the Congress headquarters in Srinagar and a mega rally on January 30.

Congress claimed that Bharat Jodo Yatra was the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in the history of India. The party said it received support from various political parties and social organizations across the country.

Congress suffered a debacle in the assembly polls held last year and the Yatra was seen as an attempt to encourage the party rank and file for the upcoming electoral battles.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the session on Saturday.

Addressing the plenary session of the party, Kharge said, “We will face all challenges in the country. Bharat Jodo yatra was like sunshine for the nation. Thousands joined hands with Rahul Gandhi and proved that Congress is still in their hearts. Rahul inspired youth.”

“To stop this Plenary Session, BJP conducted a raid on party workers’ residents. They arrested our workers. But we faced them and held this session,” added the Congress chief.

Earlier on Saturday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi arrived in Raipur to attend the 85th plenary session of the party. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel received Priyanka Gandhi at the airport.

Congress workers laid flower petals on the street to welcome party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders in Raipur on Saturday for the 85th plenary session.

The plenary will on Saturday also discuss resolutions including political and economic ones.

Former party chief Rahul Gandhi will address the plenary on February 26.

A meeting of the steering committee was held on Friday to decide the agenda of the plenary session.

The Steering Committee of Congress met on Friday morning and decided to go for nomination members to Congress Working Committee (CWC) in view of the challenges faced by the party and the proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.

There was some speculation that Congress may opt for elections to CWC, a demand that has been raised from time to time by sections in the party. CWC is the highest-decision-making body of Congress.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said 16 articles and 32 rules are proposed to be amended and an important amendment was to provide 50 per cent reservation in the working committee for SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities and youth below the age of 50.

The party is likely to amend the constitution to confer party leaders who have been Prime Ministers and party chiefs permanence in the CWC. (ANI)

Atishi, Saurabh To Take Oath As Delhi Ministers On March 9

BJP Should Accept Defeat, Says AAP Leader On Ruckus At MCD House

Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi on Friday alleged that the newly elected mayor Shelly Oberoi was physically assaulted by a BJP male member in the Civic Centre.

She urged the BJP to stop the “goondaism” in the Civic centre and said that BJP should accept its defeat.
While talking to ANI, Atishi said, “Today BJP showed goondaism in the Civic centre. A standing committee election was going on. When counting started BJP realised they were losing & they created a ruckus. The mayor was attacked & physically assaulted by a BJP male member.”

She further stated, “What behaviour is this? This is shameful and condemnable. The country is seeing this. BJP should accept their defeat. I request BJP to stop their goondaism. Those who have attacked the Mayor will be sent behind bars.”

Meanwhile, Aam Admi Party (AAP) Councillor Ashok Kumar Maanu collapsed at Delhi Civic Centre minutes back and alleged that the ruckus had been caused by the BJP goons.

While talking to ANI, Maanu said, “They are so shameless that they attacked even women and the Mayor. BJP goons did this.”

On the other hand, BJP leader Harish Khurana blamed Aam Admi Party behind the ruckus. He said, “Election officers declare the election and say that votes declared invalid by Mayor are valid and three candidates each of AAP and BJP have won. But AAP does hooliganism here as instructed by Kejriwal. We won’t tolerate this goondaism & approach the Court.”

On Friday, Maanu collapsed at Delhi Civic Centre as clashes broke out here between AAP and BJP councillors.

Ruckus broke out at Delhi Civic Centre once again as AAP and BJP Councillors jostled, manhandled and rained blows on each other.

This is the third day of commotion in the House.

On Friday, amid political slugfest, the voting process to elect six members of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) took place at the Civic Center in the national capital

Ahead of the election of six members of the MCD Standing Committee, Delhi MCD House witnessed sloganeering by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors.

In a jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party two days after it won the polls for the mayor and deputy mayor in the MCD, Bawana councillor Pawan Sehrawat joined the BJP on Friday.

The switchover happened shortly before the polling to elect members of the MCD’s Standing Committee on Friday.

Earlier, on Thursday, the House was adjourned for the 13th time since it convened post the MCD polls in December 4, last year, after councillors of the ruling AAP and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party came to blows over polling to elect members of the Standing Committee. (ANI)

Medical Seats Doubled In Last Few Years: Modi

Country Is Saying ‘Tera Kamal Khilega’: Modi Lambasts Over ‘Kabar Khudegi’ Slogan

Coming down heavily on Congress for raising slogan ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ (Modi, your grave would be dug), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the country and people are saying “Modi Tera Kamal Khilega” (Modi, your lotus will bloom).

Retorting to the Congress’ remarks, the Prime Minister said that the country will give a “befitting reply” to the people with offensive thinking and language.
“I can see BJP all around in Meghalaya. Be it hills or plains, village or town, I can see the lotus bloom. Those who have been rejected by the country, who the country is no more ready to accept, are now chanting ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’. But the country is saying ‘Modi tera kamal khilega’,” PM Modi said while addressing an election rally here on Friday.

PM Modi went on saying, “The people of the country will give a befitting reply to the people having such offensive thinking and language. The people of Meghalaya and Nagaland will also give a reply.”

Congress leaders allegedly raised ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ slogan after the party leader Pawan Khera was stopped from boarding a flight to Chhattisgarh’s Raipur at the Delhi airport on Thursday.

A video of the same was also circulated on social media platforms.

The Prime Minister further said that Meghalaya needs a “People’s first” government instead of a “family first” government.

“Today, Meghalaya wants a government with People First instead of Family First, so today ‘lotus flower’ has become synonymous with strength, peace and stability of Meghalaya. When I think of Meghalaya, I think of talented people, and vibrant traditions. I am here with a message of hope and development. India is scaling new heights of success and Meghalaya is making a strong contribution to it. We want to build it further and work for the state,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that the support for the BJP is a result of “selfish act” by a few families.

“Be it youth, women, traders, or government servants, everyone is asking for a BJP government. The sentiment in support of BJP in Meghalaya, as well as North East, is a result of the selfish act by a few families. Meghalaya’s interests were never given priority… You were divided on small issues. This politics has done you a lot of harm… It has done a lot of harm to the youth here,” he said.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in Shillong ahead of the rally.

Thanking the people for showing love on him, PM Modi said that it will be repaid by bringing development to Meghalaya.

“I have been blessed to be here and I thank everyone for the love showered on me during the roadshow. This love and blessings from the people of Meghalaya will be repaid by bringing development to Meghalaya,” he said.

Meghalaya will go to Assembly polls on February 27 along with Nagaland. The counting of votes will take place on March 2. (ANI)

“This campaign will be run across the country from April 6 to 14 for the development and welfare of the poor. There is OBC population of 70 to 72 crore across the country and this campaign will play a big role in the upcoming elections,” he said.

“Our resolution is to connect Pasmanda Muslims with the mainstream, in which we will run this campaign in 900 villages of Pasmanda,” he added.

OBC Morcha President said that the Assembly elections are to be held in many states in 2023 and keeping in view the Lok Sabha, this campaign will be run across the country.

“Under this campaign, efforts will be made to connect OBC society with the main ideology of BJP,” he added.

“BJP’s foundation day is on April 6, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary is on April 14 and in view of this, from April 6 to 14, for a total of nine days we will run the campaign Gaon Gaon Chalo, Ghar Ghar Chalo Abhiyan’,” said the BJP leader.

He further said that he will communicate with the public about the achievements of the government in the nine-day-long campaign.

“Will talk to the public about the achievements like increasing the respect of the OBC society, giving constitutional status to backward classes and giving reservations in exams like NEET etc. Under this campaign, our target is to reach one lakh villages and 9 to 10 lakh houses. We will set up a chaupal and will compare the opposition parties with the BJP and try to connect them. Our focus will be on more than 100 Lok Sabha constituencies,” said the BJP leader.

Further, talking about the Telangana elections, which is likely to be held at the end of the year, Laxman said, “BJP will have a majority government in the coming elections in Telangana because the opponents have only ruined Telangana, while the BJP and the Modi government are providing free rations to the public and many more. Cong Treated Northeastern States As ATMs: Modi

Cong Treated Northeastern States As ATMs: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Congress and similar parties used to loot Northeastern states and treated them as ATMs, while the BJP considers the Northeast as the growth engine of the country’s development.

Addressing an election rally in Meghalaya’s Tura, the Prime Minister said, “Congress used to remember Meghalaya only during elections. Congress and similar parties used to loot Northeastern states and treated them as ATMs… ‘Sabka saath, sabka vikas’ is secularism for us. For BJP the country and its citizens come first.”
PM Modi said that the people of Meghalaya have decided to have a BJP government both in the state and at the Centre.

He further said that Meghalaya will soon host a G20 meeting adding that people from many developed nations will visit Meghalaya which will boost the state’s image.

“We have changed the old thinking and approach for the development of the entire North-East including Meghalaya. Congress governments had considered this part as the last part of the country while BJP considers North-East as the growth engine of the country’s development,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the central government has increased the budget of the Northeast in the last 9 years but the people here tell that neither roads, schools or colleges nor hospitals have been built.

“The youth here are telling that there is corruption in the recruitment… there is nepotism. Seeing all this, Meghalaya has decided that there should be a BJP government in both Delhi and Shillong,” he added.

“Tribal villages in interior areas of Meghalaya got electricity for the first time, since independence, in the last nine years. We have also allocated a surplus budget for road construction of villages and spent more than Rs 5,000 crore on constructing National Highways,” he said adding that the Congress governments have always ignored these areas, but BJP considers the northeast as the growth engine of the country.

Talking about the development of Assam, PM Modi said that under the BJP government, neighbouring states of Meghalaya have achieved fast-paced development.

“People were only aware of Japanese Cherry blossoms but after I spoke about cherry blossoms from Meghalaya, people understood the potential of Meghalaya,” he said.

PM Modi said that he is confident in the love and blessings that “Meghalaya Maange BJP Sarkar” (Meghalaya asks for BJP government).

He further said that the BJP government for Meghalaya means fast paced development, the end of blockade and violence, pucca houses for all and employment opportunities for youth.

“We have also strengthened air connectivity for Meghalaya and are installing hundreds of 4G towers in tribal villages of Meghalaya,” he said.

Sharing anecdotes from the past, when the BJP government helped Indian nationals who were stuck in other countries, PM Modi said, “The family of Father Prem Kumar had lost all hope when the Christian priest got stuck in Afghanistan. I had promised his family and Christian religious heads his safe return to the country, and I am glad that I was able to fulfil my promise.”

He further said that the nation and countrymen come before everything for BJP.

“Over 50 nurses from Kerala who had studied in Christian institutions and were working in Iraq were rescued by the efforts of the central government and brought home safely. We do not see religion while helping our own,” he added.

The Prime Minister said that he was blessed to be showered with love by people in large numbers.

Taking a dig at the Meghalaya government for denying permission for holding a rally in Tura, the PM said that he does not need any ground to connect with the people of Tura and Meghalaya.

“But this love and affection towards BJP aren’t getting digested by a few, and they are losing sleep over this. They tried hard that this rally could not happen but Modi does not need any ground for connecting with the people of Tura because people here have accepted me in their hearts. The gesture of love and acceptance shown towards me by the people of Shillong and Tura is proof that Meghalaya wants a BJP government,” he added.

Earlier, the National People’s Party (NPP) government in poll-bound Meghalaya had denied permission for holding a rally of Prime in Tura.

Notably, Tura, part of Garo Hills, is considered the bastion of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and a majority of his legislators elected from this region.

Voting for the 60-seat Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 27. The counting of votes will be done on March 2. (ANI)

Kharge Rahul Gandhi

Democracy Under Threat: Kharge On Khera’s Arrest

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at the BJP government for allegedly “harassing” Congress leader Pawan Khera and said that the Supreme Court order is a tight slap on the government’s face.

He further said that BJP is trying to eliminate freedom of speech adding that democracy is under threat.
“The BJP government tried to harass Pawan Khera. I am happy with SC’s order, it’s a tight slap on their face. I condemn this action by BJP. In Parliament also, we were stopped from raising issues. They are trying to eliminate freedom of speech. Democracy is under threat,” said Kharge.

The Congress chief alleged that BJP wants to stop the plenary session from happening but the people of Chhattisgarh along with the government here are working towards conducting this session.

“When Congress plenary session is happening in Chhattisgarh, our leaders are being raided by ED and I-T. They (BJP) want to stop this session from happening but the people of Chhattisgarh along with the government here are working towards conducting this session,” he added.

Kharge alleged that the Modi government has turned “India’s democracy into a ‘Hitlershahi'”.

“Notice is given if the opposition raises issues in Parliament. ED raids are conducted on our leaders of Chhattisgarh before the plenary session. Today the media chairman was forcibly taken off the plane and arrested. The Modi government has turned India’s democracy into a ‘Hitlershahi’. We strongly condemn this dictatorship,” Kharge tweeted in Hindi.

Khera was arrested by Assam Police on Thursday in Delhi.

The Dwarka court on Thursday granted interim bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera following the order passed by the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court said, “Till the next date of hearing, the petitioner will be released on interim bail by Dwarka court.”

SC directed the Dwarka court to grant interim relief to Pawan Khera.

Earlier today, Khera said that he is “ready to fight the long battle” soon after Assam Police arrested him in the national capital.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier today Pawan Khera was stopped from boarding a plane at Delhi airport after a request was received from the Assam Police to stop him,” Delhi Police said on Thursday.

Earlier, the Assam Police registered a case against the Congress leader in the Dima Hasao district.

The Congress leaders protested after Khera was stopped by Delhi Police from boarding the plane at the airport.

Delhi Police said that a request was received from Assam Police for assistance in the arrest of accused Pawan Khera in case FIR No. 19/2023, PS Dima Hasao, District Haflong, Assam.

“Based upon the same, requisite local assistance was provided and upon the requisition of Assam Police, accused Shri Pawan Khera was detained from Terminal 1 of IGI Airport and has been subsequently arrested by the IO concerned of Assam Police,” a Delhi Police official told ANI.

“Necessary legal action shall follow,” they added.

In a video shared on Congress’s Twitter handle, Pawan Khera said that he does not know why was he deboarded.

“I don’t know. I was told that your baggage has to be checked. I said I do not have any luggage except a handbag. When I came down, I was told that I cannot go, a DCP would come. We are waiting for the DCP for the last 20 minutes. I don’t know why I am being stopped,” he said. (ANI)
