Smooth, Safe Travel Is Every Citizen’s Right: Yogi

Asserting that every citizen has the right to a smooth and safe journey, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure a safe journey for the travellers.

“It becomes the responsibility of the government to fulfil this right with the utmost sincerity and honesty, considering the trust with which a passenger travels,” he said.
Flagging off 93 new Rajdhani bus services and seven regular BS-6 buses, the Chief Minister said, “The statistics of deaths resulting from road accidents are extremely alarming. If we were to present the figures of road accidents for Uttar Pradesh within a year, a horrific scenario would unfold.”

“In one year, more lives are lost due to road accidents than COVID-19 has claimed in three years. Road accidents occur and innocent lives are lost due to overspeeding, poor road engineering, or rules violations”, added CM Yogi.

He stressed that increasing awareness and obeying the rules of the road can save many lives.

“Every life is precious to us, and it is also an invaluable asset for a family, a society, and a country”, Yogi said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a campaign to increase awareness and prevent traffic accidents and the deaths they cause. He stated that launching a comprehensive awareness campaign to prevent deaths from such accidents would be a national program. The central government and the Supreme Court have also expressed concerns about this issue repeatedly.

He further added, “On this occasion, arrangements should be made to enhance the existing programs of the Transport Corporation in a more effective manner. It should be our goal to provide this type of service to people who want to use the Transport Corporation’s buses for public transportation within Uttar Pradesh.

He mentioned that, if required, we must associate private operators with regulations to provide transportation and bus services to every village. If we can provide this facility to every village, it will be convenient for the people, and they will utilize public transport services.

Discussing the increasing demand for electric buses, CM stated that wherever electric bus services have been initiated, there is a new demand among the people.

“We have currently started electric bus service in 10 cities of Uttar Pradesh. Wherever we go, people are requesting us to start electric bus services in their areas as well. On this occasion, I would like to say that the time has come to ensure that bus stations are well-maintained, safe, and our bus services are in line with the demands of the people”, he said.

The Chief Minister further asserted that it is not necessary for us to rely solely on government funding to expand the fleet of the Transport Corporation. Our efforts should focus on increasing the existing resources of the Transport Corporation and involving private operators so that every village, every city is connected with excellent bus services. This will not only help in reducing the number of deaths caused by road accidents in Uttar Pradesh but also bring the fatality rate to a minimum level.

Earlier, CM Yogi congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation on completing 50 years of journey. At the beginning of his address, he mentioned that just a few months before independence, on May 15, 1947, a state-owned transportation service was initiated in Uttar Pradesh with the aim of providing smooth and safe travel to people.

This state-owned transportation service eventually progressed into the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation on June 1, 1972, becoming the largest unit of public transport in the state with the largest population in the country, said Yogi Adityanath.

On the occasion, the Minister of Transport, Dayashankar Singh, the Chief Secretary, Durga Shankar Mishra, the Chairman of the Transport Corporation, Prashant Trivedi, the Principal Secretary of Transport, Venkateshwar Lu, MD Masoom Sarwar, and other officials from the Transport Department were also present. No Farmer Became Helpless, Died By Suicide In Last 6 Years: Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday flagged off 77 tractors for farm machinery banks set up in cooperative sugarcane and sugar mill societies.

“Today is going to be a historic day for the sugarcane farmers when on the eve of Holi, Rs 2 lakh crores will be sent directly to the farmers’ bank accounts through DBT,” CM Yogi said.

Prior to 2017, the state’s sugarcane farmers were compelled to burn their crops because of a lack of water for irrigation, electricity, and timely payment of their dues.

In the previous six years, no farmer in Uttar Pradesh became helpless and attempted suicide, said CM Yogi.

The Chief Minister added, “We have freed the sugarcane farmers from the brokers’ clutches, and today the farmers do not have to wander around in search of the slip because their slip arrives on their smartphone.”

He said that the state’s 77 sugarcane committees are receiving tractors and other equipment today. The happiness of sugarcane farmers will be doubled by receiving such a gift on the eve of Holi.

“We all know what the condition of sugarcane farmers was earlier. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, the farmer has for the first time been included in any government’s agenda and has begun to benefit from the government’s programs. Every farmer who was previously dependent on moneylenders is now able to benefit from the Soil Health Card, Kisan Bima Yojana, Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi”, CM Yogi said

Mentioning that now 2.60 crore farmers in the state are taking advantage of the facility of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi, he said, “Within the last three and a half years, we have done the work of transferring an amount of Rs 51,000 crores to their accounts.”

Asserting that a farmer is just a farmer and has no caste, creed, or religion, Yogi said, “We all know what was the situation in the state before 2017. There was no electricity and no water for irrigation. We have now provided irrigation facilities to 22 lakh hectares of land. Previously, farming was considered a loss-making venture due to a lack of water, fertilizers, and a fair market price for the product.”

“Today, UP was going to create a new record in the country, adding that sugarcane payments totalling more than Rs 2 lakh crores are now reaching farmers’ bank accounts for the first time. Many states in the country do not even have an annual budget of two lakh crores, he pointed out,” he added.

The CM went on to say that it is due to the efforts of sugarcane farmers that they are producing additional 10 tonnes of sugarcane per hectare. Apart from this, the area of sugarcane production has increased to 8 lakh hectares of additional land in the state today.

“In contrast to the previous governments, where sugar mills were closed or sold at throwaway prices, we did not shut down any sugar mill, and instead re-started the closed sugar mills. Munderwa and Pipraich sugar mills were made functional again. When the world’s sugar mills were shut down, Uttar Pradesh still had 119 sugar mills operating,” said Yogi.

He emphasized that during the Covid-19 period, when sanitisers were in short supply across the country, the government made sanitisers available at no cost to all municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh via these sugar mills. Along with this, sanitisers were made available in 27 states across the country.

The Chief Minister stated that his government paid the sugarcane price on time and procured wheat and paddy at the higher minimum support price. “For this more and more purchase centres were established. The instructions were clear: as long as the farmers had crops, the government would purchase them. No farmer will have to wander around. We have issued 284 licenses for the Khadsari units, which has resulted in job creation.”

The Chief Minister said that maximum green ethanol is being produced in the country through sugarcane farmers.

“Previously, our own money was spent in the form of terrorism against us under the name of the Petro Dollar. But now ethanol is being produced in farmers’ fields in the form of sugarcane and soon it will be seen being used in the form of diesel and petrol”, he remarked.

The CM stated that Uttar Pradesh currently is the largest producer of ethanol in the country.

“Today, our farmers are progressing by using mechanized farming. Apart from this, co-farming is being practised through FPO, enhancing the fertility of the land as well as profits of farmers,” CM Yogi remarked.

The Chief Minister cited the example of a progressive Bijnor farmer who, instead of selling his sugarcane to sugar mills, makes vinegar and markets it abroad.

He said that due to mechanized farming, today the stubble is mixed with the soil instead of being set on fire, contributing significantly to the farm’s fertility. Farming is being advanced through mechanization.

CM Yogi stated that 105 of the state’s 119 mills pay the sugarcane price within 10 days.

“We’ve also put pressure on the remaining 14-15. Where previously brokers were involved, the slip now arrives on the farmer’s smartphone. Those who used to exploit farmers have had their businesses shut down,” he added.

Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Minister Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan, Minister of State Sanjay Singh Gangwar, Chief Secretary Durgashankar Mishra, Agricultural Production Commissioner Manoj Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad were present on the occasion. Not Vote For BJP This Time

‘I’m A BJP Supporter But Don’t Want Yogi To Be CM Again’

Rahul Jaiswal, 30, from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, says he will not vote for BJP this time as Chief Minister Yogi promotes negativity among polity

I am an ardent supporter of Bharatiya Janata Party. If you follow Uttar Pradesh politics closely, my surname is enough for you to presume my political leaning. The entire Jaiswal community in the state forms the core BJP support base and my ideology is no different from the community. For as long as I can recall, I have been voting in favour of the BJP –Assembly elections, Lok Sabha elections, or local body elections.

But this time, I am not rooting for the party. Well, I am not voting for Yogi ji specifically. He’s the Chief Ministerial face of the BJP and if the party wins, he will be the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh again. I don’t support his brand of politics and way of governance.

Yogi is very short-sighted in his approach. His vision is myopic and devoid of any fruitful outcome. If you look at his major decisions in the past, you can see he has failed to provide a single positive result to the masses.

All those things which he is recognised with – bulldozer, police raj, and fake encounters – are related with destruction, negativity and profiling. Even his laws for the safety of cows couldn’t yield a positive outcome; the stray cattle have turned into a menace now.

I want to make it clear that I want all the things that Yogi ji proclaims to achieve. I want the land mafia raj to end. I want my state to be crime-free. I want cows to be protected. But, the way these targets have been sought to achieve by the chief minister has brought about more devastation than progress.

ALSO READ: The Monk Who Sold Hardline Hindutva

He brought the protection law for cows and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for this. But I want to know where are sheds for abandoned cows! I want to know why this state still has one of the highest crime rates in the country! After killing criminals, why are police now targeting innocent people? We saw what happened in Gorakhpur when police killed an innocent businessman and labeled him a criminal.

The state has become a laughing stock nationally. All those grievances which we had against other parties in the UP are now laid at the doors of the BJP. It has acquired all the shortcomings of other parties and is no different from them any longer. Probably, Yogi ji thinks that his voter base doesn’t see or hear things and is blinded by the love for the party.

I don’t know whether the situation in Uttar Pradesh will improve if Samajwadi Party comes to power. Currently, I am looking at the present and the scenario looks bleak. I think UP needs change for now. No political party or leader should feel complacent. Political leaders must know that the ultimate power rests in the hands of us the people.

As told to Md Tausif Alam
