I Am Not Modi… Will Fulfill My Promises: Rahul Gandhi

In a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said unlike the former, he tries to keep his promises to the people.

Addressing a public rally in poll-bound Telangana on Wednesday, the Congress MP said, “I am not Narendra Modi. When I make a promise, I strive to fulfill it. Modi-ji said he would ensure that Rs 15 lakh (from the recovered black money parked overseas) is deposited to each of your bank accounts. However, not a penny has been transferred to your accounts yet. However, lakhs have been piling up in (industrialist Gautam) Adani’s bank account. Unlike Modi-ji, we fulfill our promises.”

Also taking aim at Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief, K Chandrashekar Rao, Rahul said, “The ties you have are not just with me but also extends to my great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru, grandmother Indira Gandhi and Priyanka (Gandhi Vadra). So, we are committed to fulfilling our promises here. I am telling you again, the money looted by KCR will be put back into your bank accounts.”

Claiming that CM KCR and his family treat Telangana as their fief, the Congress MP said, “I have resolved to put the money looted by KCR back into your bank accounts. On one side is your chief minister (K Chandrashekar Rao), his family, and his corrupt ministers, and on the other side is the Congress, the poor, and the farmers of Telangana. Our dream is to wrest the power from the KCR regime and vest it in the people. A king and his family are ruling Telangana as if it is their kingdom.”

Further hitting out at the BRS government, he said the people have to choose if they want to go with a ‘Dorala’ (landlord’s) Telangana or ‘Prajala’ (people’s) Telangana.

“You dreamed of Telangana. You dreamed of a ‘Prajala’ government. You didn’t want a ‘Dorala’ government. When you fought for Telangana, shed your blood, and brought about a revolution, the vision you had before yourselves was ‘Prajala’ Telangana and not ‘Dorala’ Telangana. The Congress party will fulfill all your dreams,” the Congress MP said at a public gathering in Kollapur.

Telangana will poll for its Assembly on November 30 and counting of votes, along with those of four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.

The state is set to witness an intriguing triangular contest between the ruling BRS, Congress, and the BJP.

In the previous Assembly elections in 2018, the BRS won 88 of the 119 seats, hogging 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress finished a distant second with 19 seats and a vote share of 28.7 per cent. (ANI)

PM’s Claim Of China Not Taking One Inch Of Our Land Not True: Rahul

In Ladakh to pay tribute to his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s 79th birth anniversary, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at the Centre, saying that its claim that not an inch of Indian land was taken by China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) troops “is not true”.

The Congress MP claimed the locals, too, contend that Indian territory was intruded upon and taken by the Chinese troops, adding that it was a matter of concern.

Speaking to reporters after laying floral tributes to a framed photograph of the former PM by a gleaming Pangong Tso lake on an overcast Sunday morning, the Congress leader said, “The locals here are concerned about China taking our land. They have said that the Chinese troops took away their grazing land. However, the PM says not an inch of land was taken away. This is not true, you can ask anyone here,” said Rahul.

Gandhi also raised questions over the Union territory status given to Ladakh after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories following the abrogation of Article 370.

“There were so many complaints from the people of Ladakh, They are not happy with the status that has been given to them, they want more representation and unemployment is also a concern. People are saying that the state should not be run by bureaucracy but by representatives of the people, the Congress MP added.

Rahul recalled a conversation with his father in which Rajiv Gandhi told him that Pangong Tso is the most beautiful place on earth.  

“I remember, when I was small, my father once returned from a visit to Pangong Tso and showed me some pictures of the lake. He told me that this is the most beautiful place on earth. During the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, I was scheduled to come to Ladkah but because of some logistical reasons, the visit had to be shelved. So I thought of a visit later and a longer stay here. I will also be visiting the Nubra Valley and Kargil.”

During his visit, Rahul was accompanied by Vikar Rasool Wani, president of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and several other party officials and workers.

Earlier, in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Papa, the dreams you had for India are shown from these priceless memories. Your mark is my way – understanding the struggles and dreams of every Indian, listening to the voice of Mother India.”

Rahul Rides Bike To Ladakh’s Pangong Lake On Father Rajiv’s Birthday

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi embarked on a bike ride to Pangong Lake in Ladakh on Saturday to celebrate his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birthday on August 20, officials said.

Taking to the social media platform, Instagram, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “On our way to Pangong Lake, which my father used to say, is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

This is Rahul’s first visit to Ladakh since Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories, Ladakh and J-K, following the removal of Articles 370 and 35 (A) on August 5, 2019.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Leh to begin his two-day visit to the Union Territory on Thursday but his tour was extended till August 25, party sources said.

On Friday he interacted with youth in Leh. 

The source further said that he will also watch a football match in Leh. Rahul has been a footballer player during his college days.

He will also participate in the meeting of the 30-member Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil elections on August 25.

Congress and National Conference have forged a pre-poll alliance against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Kargil council polls scheduled to be held on September 10.

Although the Congress MP visited Srinagar and Jammu twice earlier this year, he, however, did not travel to Ladakh.

In January, the Congress leader visited Jammu and Srinagar during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Again on a personal visit in February, he visited the Gulmarg ski resort. (ANI)

Nehru-Ji Is Not Just His Name: Rahul Amid Renaming Row

Amid the raging controversy around the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in the national capital to Prime Ministers’ Memorial Museum and Library (PMML), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said his great grandfather was known more for the work he did in his time and not just for his name.

Speaking to ANI at the Delhi airport before departing for a two-day visit to Leh, Rahul said, “Nehru-ji ki pehchaan unke karam hai, unka naam nahi (Nehru-ji is known for his work and not his name).”

Earlier, a war of words broke out between the BJP and the Opposition parties over the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum to Prime Minister’s Museum and Library.

Hitting out at the Centre over the official renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in the national capital, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi can never take away the gigantic contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru in the country’s freedom struggle.

Taking to his official handle on X, formerly Twitter, Ramesh posted on Wednesday, “From today, an iconic institution gets a new name. The world-renowned Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) becomes PMML—Prime Ministers’ Memorial Museum and Library. Mr Modi possesses a huge bundle of fears, complexes and insecurities, especially when it comes to our first and longest-serving Prime Minister. He has had a single-point agenda of denying, distorting, defaming and destroying Nehru and the Nehruvian legacy.”

The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) was officially renamed the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library (PMML) by the Centre on Monday.

Meanwhile Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library (PMML) Vice Chairman of Executive Council, A Surya Prakash on Wednesday said the new museum showcases the achievements and the contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru to the nation, adding that those dubious about the same should visit it. 

“Anyone visiting the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) can see how we have showcased Nehru, his temples of modern India, the Hirakud Dam, Nagarajuna Sagar Dam, his idea of setting up institutes of technology, and Planning Commission in his 17-year tenure as PM at the Teen Murti Bhavan,” he said. 

Reacting to the remarks made by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh over the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) that PM Modi can never take away contributions made by Nehru during the freedom struggle, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that for the Congress only Jawaharlal Nehru and his family matters.

“There is a basic difference between the thinking of the Congress party and Jairam Ramesh and PM Narendra Modi. They (Congress) think that only Nehru ji and the family matters. Narendra Modi gave a respectful position to all the PMs of the country at the museum,” he said. 

Earlier in mid-June, during a special meeting of the NMML Society, it was resolved to change its name to PMML Society.

The Culture Ministry said that it had decided to change the name of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society to Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society.

The decision was taken at a special meeting of the Memorial Museum and Library Society which was presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is the Vice-President of the Society. (ANI)

The More They Try To Separate Us: Rahul To Wayanad People

Addressing a gathering in his parliamentary constituency for the first time after being reinstated as Lok Sabha MP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday hit out at the BJP saying that his relationship with people of Wayanad will become even stronger if they try to separate them.

“The BJP and the RSS do not understand what a family is. They don’t understand that the more they try to separate you and me, the closer we will become. They think that if we disqualify Rahul Gandhi, his relationship with Wayanad will break. If you disqualify Rahul Gandhi, his relationship with Wayanad will become even stronger ,” the reinstated MP said. 

Rahul was reinstated as Wayanad MP last week, after the Supreme Court on August 4 stayed his conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname remark case.

Continuing his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over violence-hit Manipur, the Congress leader said that rapes and murders are happening in the northeastern state but the former laughed and joked in Parliament. 

The Congress MP has been launching attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the latter’s over two-hour-long speech in Parliament.  

Rahul alleges that the Prime Minister spoke for 2 hours and 13 minutes in Parliament but he spoke about Manipur for only two minutes. 

“There are thousands of people in Manipur who have suffered this. Someone’s house has been burnt down, someone’s sister has been raped, and someone’s brother and parents have been killed. It is as if somebody threw kerosene across Manipur and set it on fire…There is blood everywhere, there is murder everywhere, rape everywhere. That is the situation in Manipur and the Prime Minister spoke for 2 hours and 13 minutes in Parliament but he spoke on Manipur for 2 minutes. He laughed, joked. His cabinet laughed, joked…” Rahul Gandhi said. 

Earlier on Friday, while addressing a press briefing in the national capital, Gandhi launched a similar attack on PM Modi. 

“I heard PM Modi speaking in Parliament for about 2 hours and 13 minutes. He was cracking jokes, laughing with NDA MPs sloganeering. It does not behove a prime minister,” Rahul Gandhi said yesterday.  

Emphasising that the Indian Army is capable enough to resolve the situation and bring normalcy to the state, he said, “Indian Army can stop this nonsense, drama in two days, but the PM wants Manipur to burn and does not want to extinguish the fire.”

Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi appealed to all Opposition parties to get involved in a collective effort to gain the trust of the people of Manipur and asked them not to exploit the situation in the northeastern state for political gains.

PM Modi further asked the opposition to ‘work together’ for restoring peace in Manipur and bringing normalcy there.

“I want to request the MPs of the Parliament to understand the value of this time. Come and proceed together. In this country, there have been more serious issues in the past, but we found a way to work together. Let’s come together. Take people of Manipur in confidence. Don’t take advantage of Manipur for doing politics. What has happened there in Manipur is unfortunate. Understand their pain and work for healing it. This should be our only way,” PM Modi said while replying to the debate on the no-confidence motion. (ANI)

Rahul Lands At Coimbatore Airport, Enroute To Wayanad

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday morning arrived at Coimbatore airport on an IndiGo flight from Delhi.

During his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, starting today Gandhi will also visit Udhagamandalam (Ooty). 

Gandhi is then scheduled to travel by road to Wayanad, his parliamentary constituency in Kerala. This will be his first visit after he was reinstated as a Member of the Parliament in the Lok Sabha following the Supreme Court’s stay order on his conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname case.

In Kerala, Congress leader will participate in public meetings and a key handover ceremony of nine houses built under the Kaithangu Project in Kalpetta. 

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Working President VT Siddique said that Gandhi will attend a district Congress Committee meeting.

“There will be a very warm welcome ever hand in the history of Wayanad for Rahul Gandhi,” Siddique added.

According to sources, the Congress MP will embark on a Europe tour, covering three countries namely Belgium, Norway, and France from the second week of September where he will be meeting European Union Parliamentarians, the Indian diaspora, and university students.

Meanwhile, Gandhi spoke in the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion his party had moved against the PM Modi-led central government. The motion, moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and supported by the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) was defeated on Thursday after an address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gandhi launched a scathing attack over PM Modi’s speech in the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion stating that it does not behove the PM to laugh and crack jokes in Parliament when Manipur has been “on fire” for over three months. (ANI)

No-Trust Motion: Dubey’s ‘Bete’, ‘Damaad’ Jibe At Sonia In LS

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey, on Tuesday, initiating his party’s debate on the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha, took a jibe at Sonia Gandhi and also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

“This no-confidence motion has been brought. Why has this been brought? Sonia ji (Gandhi) is sitting here…I think she has to do two things – “Bete (son) ko set karna hai aur Damad (son-in-law) ko bhent karna hai” (She wants to set his son [Rahul Gandhi] and wants to gift his son-in-law). …That is the base of this motion,” Dubey said.

The former Congress President was seen laughing at the BJP MP’s remark.

This motion is against the son of a poor, against a man who gave houses, drinking water, toilets to the people. It is against the poor, the BJP MP said.

Dubey also targeted Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Savarkar and brought up the issue of the Supreme Court staying the Congress leader’s conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname defamation case after which the Wayanad MP’s membership in the Lower House was restored.

“The Supreme Court has not given a judgement. It has given a stay order…He is saying that he will not apologise… Secondly, he says “I am not Savarkar” – You can never be Veer Savakar…,” Dubey said.

The debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government began with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi initiating the debate. Gogoi stated that the opposition I.N.D.I.A alliance was forced to move the house due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “maun vrat” (vow of silence) on Manipur.

Initially, the Congress said that Rahul Gandhi will begin the debate.

Responding to the last-minute change in the Congress speakers’ list Dubey took a dig at Rahul Gandhi and said that “Maybe Rahul Gandhi wasn’t ready today or maybe he woke late. Gaurav Gogoi spoke well. I am a victim of turbulent times of Manipur. My uncle suffered there and was injured.”

Opposition members have been seeking discussion under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha since the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.

Manipur had been on the boil for the last three months after ethnic clashes broke out between two tribal communities Meities and Kukis, when the Manipur High Court asked the state government to consider adding one of the communities to the list of Scheduled Tribes. (ANI)

Rahul Calls On Lalu After SC Stay In Defamation Case

After the Supreme Court cleared the decks for his return as an MP by putting a stay on his conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname case, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday called on former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch, Lalu Prasad Yadav, in the national capital.

In a tweet, the All India Congress Committee shared pictures of the two leaders meeting at the New Delhi residence of RJD MP and Lalu’s daughter, Misa Bharti. 

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav were also present at the meeting. 

Earlier, the RJD patriarch had, in a lighter vein, advised Rahul to get married during the inaugural meeting of the united Opposition in Patna in June.

The Congress and the RJD are partners in the grand Opposition bloc — Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A).

The meeting in Patna was convened by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Meanwhile, after getting a reprieve from the Supreme Court in the criminal defamation case, Rahul addressed a press conference at the Congress’s national headquarters in Delhi, thanking the people for their love and support and saying “truth always triumphs”.

“Truth always triumphs, if not today then tomorrow or the day after. I thank people for their support,” he said at the press conference in the national capital.

The Supreme Court, in an interim order on Friday, stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case over the ‘Modi surname’ remark.

The apex court issued notices to the Gujarat government and the complainant in July on an appeal of the Congress leader challenging the Gujarat High Court order.

The Gujarat High Court, had, in its order earlier, declined to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case in which Rahul was sentenced to two years in jail by the Surat court over the ‘Modi surname’ remark.

After his conviction in the case, Gandhi was disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad on March 24.

Earlier in March, a magisterial court convicted Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Modi’ surname remarks ahead of the 2019 national polls. (ANI)

RS: Oppo Demands Immediate Discussion On Manipur Under Rule 267

Rajya Sabha faced its second adjournment on Tuesday amid insistence by the opposition for a detailed discussion on Manipur violence and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on it.

Soon after the House reassembled at 12 noon following the first adjournment earlier, the Opposition leaders raised their demand.  Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar proceeded with Question Hour even as opposition members raised slogans in support of their demand.
The Chairman told the protesting members to maintain order as Question Hour is at the Heart of Parliament’s functioning,

“We will have to have zero tolerance for lack of decorum,” he said.

Dhankhar objected to remarks of Congress leader P Chidambaram’s “how can you do it” remarks earlier and said the language was “extreme and intemperate”.

Chidambaram said that he had pointed to the earlier remarks made by the Chair and meant no disrespect.

Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and P. Chidambaram appealed to the chair to hold a discussion on the Manipur issue under Rule 267 and said over 50 notices had been given.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge asked why the government is not ready for discussion on the Manipur issue when 50 members have given notice under Rule 267 today and similar notices have been given for the last four days.

He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking a jibe at the opposition over INDIA alliance by talking about East India Company but not speaking in Parliament on Manipur violence.

“So many representatives are giving notices under 267 in Parliament. We are talking about Manipur, but the Prime Minister is talking about East India Company,” Kharge alleged.

Several other leaders, including AAP’s Raghav Chadha, BRS’ K Keshava Rao, also spoke and demanded discussion under Rule 267 on Manipur.

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said the government is ready to discuss all issues and accused the opposition of trying to polticise atrocities against women.

He also referred to the incidences of violence in Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and said these incidents should also be discussed.

“If they were sensitive, a discussion would have started,” he said.

Amid the din, Rajya Sabha Chairman adjourned the House till 2 pm. The House has been witnessing adjournments since the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20. Opposition is keen on discussion under a rule that also entails voting. (ANI)

PM Should Seek Resignation Of Vaishnaw: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the Prime Minister should immediately seek resignation of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the tragic train accident in Odisha’s Balasore in which 275 people died and 1000 people were injured.

The Congress leader stepped up the attack at the Central government stating that till now “no accountability even after 270+ deaths”.
“No accountability even after 270+ deaths! The Modi government cannot run away from taking responsibility for such a painful accident. The Prime Minister should immediately seek the resignation of the Railway Minister!” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh also demanded Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s resignation in the wake of the triple train tragedy in Odisha.

Digvijay Singh expressed grief over the tragedy that took place on Friday evening and involved Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Coromandel Express and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in the Balasore district of Odisha.

“When Railways Minister repeatedly says that our system is fool-proof and any severe accident cannot happen then how this happened… He (Ashwini Vaishnaw) is an ex-IAS officer of Odisha cadre, where this tragedy has taken place. There is an example where in such a train accident, Lal Bahadur Shastri had resigned from his post,” said Digvijaya Singh told reporters on Saturday.

“We don’t expect this from PM Modi’s cabinet, but if he (Ashwini Vaishnaw) has a little bit of shame, he should resign,” the Congress leader said.

On Saturday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday hit out at Union Railways Minister saying that “he should tender his resignation”.

“The entire nation is saddened by the incident. Do they have morality or not…BJP which speaks about morality then he should resign,” Baghel said.

Without taking anyone’s name, he said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) always speaks about responsibility, therefore he [referring to the Railway minister] should tender his resignation after this major train accident.”

He further added that the railway minister had claimed that Railways have adopted a modern technique according to which if another train comes on the track that it gets stopped before 400 metres.

“But three trains collided here [in Odisha], in his state,” he remarked.

“Our Railway Minister comes from Odisha and if such a big incident took place in his state then definitely it is his responsibility and it would be seen whether he will fulfil his responsibility or not,” Baghel said.

Expressing anguish over the incident, Baghel condoled the loss of lives in the crash and wished for the early recovery of the injured. (ANI)
