Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s jibe at the newly-formed INDIA alliance of opposition parties and said he can call them by any name but they will “help heal Manipur” and “rebuild the idea of India” in the state which has seen ethnic violence.

Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet that parties of INDIA will bring back “love and peace” to the people of Manipur.
“Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi. We are INDIA. We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur,” Gandhi said.

The Congress leaders’ remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at the emerging alliance of opposition parties in his remarks at the meeting of BJP Parliamentary Party on Tuesday.

Twenty-six opposition parties including Congress, which met in Bengaluru earlier this month, decided to name their alliance – INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).

BJP leader Ravi Shankar told the media after the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting that PM Modi had said in his remarks that “something on face value could be different from something that is really true”.

“PM Modi has said that Indian National Congress, East India Company was founded by a foreign national. Today people are using names like Indian Mujahideen and Indian People’s Front. Something on face value could be different from something that is really true,” Prasad said.

“We are proud of our PM. We are coming back to power in 2024,” he added.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also reacted in the Rajya Sabha to PM Modi’s remarks.

“So many representatives are giving notices under 267 in Parliament. We are talking about Manipur. Manipur is burning but the Prime Minister is talking about East India Company,” Kharge said.

Sources said parties of INDIA are planning to move no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government in the Lok Sabha.

They said that the floor leaders of Congress and other like-minded parties discussed the proposal to bring a no-confidence motion in their meeting held on Tuesday morning. (ANI)

Floor Leaders Of I.N.D.I.A To Meet RS LoP In Parliament Tomorrow

Floor leaders of the newly formed Opposition alliance the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) will meet at the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament on Tuesday to chalk out the strategy for the floor of the House.

The meeting of the floor leaders will be held at 10 am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced adjournments for the third consecutive day.

The situation in Manipur dominated the proceedings of the third day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on Thursday, with the Opposition demanding the Centre to discuss the issue.

The Congress and opposition leaders are demanding a statement from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session.

Earlier in the day, in Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar suspended Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Monday for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament for “repeatedly violating” the Chair’s directives.

The Chairman first named Sanjay Singh for interrupting the proceedings of the House when it had taken up the Question Hour amid protests by the Opposition over its demand for a statement from Prime Minister on the Manipur violence and a detailed discussion on the issue.

Lok Sabha also witnessed protests and sloganeering from opposition members over their demand for a discussion on the Manipur situation and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)

Floor leaders of the newly formed Opposition alliance the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) will meet at the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament on July 24 to chalk out the strategy for the floor of the House, the sources said on Saturday.

The leaders are likely to protest in front of the Gandhi statue on the Manipur issue.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi informed members that the government is ready to have discussions on the Manipur violence in both Houses, and the Home Minister would give his reply once the discussions are conducted.

The 12th session of the 17th Lok Sabha has begun close on the heels of 26 opposition parties forming the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

In a recent incident in Manipur, two women were paraded naked and sexually assaulted before being set free by the mob comprising the majority community.

The incident allegedly took place on May 4, a day after ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur.

After a video of the same went viral, the police swung into action and arrested five people, including the main accused.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the video, Police on Thursday night said that a case of abduction, gang rape and murder was registered at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district against unknown armed men and that all-out efforts were on to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while briefing the media ahead of the monsoon session on Thursday, said he is pained over the incident that is “shameful for any civil society”.

“No accused will be spared, we will never forgive those who are behind this,” PM Modi said.

The violence in Manipur erupted after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3 in protest against the proposed inclusion of people belonging to the Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs). (ANI)
